One Bite Shawarma - Review - Castro - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"Late-night Castro-goers have another place to fuel up after a night out: One Bite Shawarma, a Mediterranean spot doing wraps, plates, and salads. They’re open until 3am daily, so you can get your chicken shawarma fix at all hours. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Julia Chen

Absolutely amazing experience! The food was incredibly fresh and delicious, and the staff were friendly, fast, and genuinely kind. It’s not your typical Mediterranean shawarma — it’s even better. The meat is perfectly seasoned, unique, and truly something you need to try. The portions are huge, and the presentation is something you have to see for yourself. Highly recommended!

Google
Phenomenal food. Had me moaning with every bite. The chicken shawarma had so much explode-in-your-mouth flavour, which is much better than what I can say about Gyro Express. Do yourself a favour and walk one more stoplight for this spot.

I had high hopes for a new middle eastern restaurant in the neighborhood but was quite disappointed by the lack of authenticity. The portion is large, I wish they were smaller and cheaper, or at least an option for less. I laid $22 for lunch that could feed two people. Give me an option in the middle. The taste was not of a proper Shawarma… where are the fresh veggies, where are the pickles, tahini and all the freshness that comes with food from the Middle East?? The meat was decent flavor, but it was missing all the veggies and tahini that typically come with this type of food. The restaurant is very bare and one tone. They might still be under construction but at the time of my order it was hot in there due to lack of air and just bad paint job over the previous business’s pink walls. The guy who worked there was quite nice! I was the only customer for the 20 minutes I was there waiting for my order to be ready. In my photo you can see how brown everything is, missing the color and freshness you typically get with good middle eastern food!

I live in the Castro I am 66. Visited this establishment on October 10 for carry out at 1pm . Really wanted to love this place…. I spent $42.There was a young man there. He was very friendly. All the French Fries were little 3-4 “ greasy. WAY Overuse of seasoning (salt) that made & my friend sick. The chicken was the best still too much seasoning.. The beef was way too salty too- not the typical lamb for a shawarma. Suggested a sign in the window with the price listed- so people can take a photo of the menu. PW

Great place to eat, I ordered beef 4 bites and it was delicious and enough.

Google
Fresh, amazing and delicious. I really recommend the 7 bites chicken or beef, and also their ice cream.

Google
Very tasty food. I hope they have pictures of the dishes on their menu soon, along with more options for drinks. I would eat here again.

Google
Great spot. I wasn’t quite sure what I was getting when I ordered the beef shawarma bites but it’s a delicious wrap cut up into pieces with excellent flavor. Taking half home. One order is probably good for 2 people unless you’re super hungry. I’ll for sure be back

Yelp
Went here because on the premise that it has higher ratings than the rest of the spots for a reason, had to give it a go. 4 pieced chicken wrap got me right, their seasoning with the juicy chicken was a win in my book. Should've gotten the 6 count. Thank you and have a nice day

Yelp
We were recommended to One Bite by a friend, but we were very disapppointed with our experience there last night. We ordered the combo 7 bite with chicken and beef and a falafel side. After waiting 30 minutes, the one employee taking orders and preparing food brought out our order. The combo was there, but the falafel was missing. We waited another 15 minutes for the falafel for a total wait of about 45 minutes on a to-go order. When we first asked them to forget about the falafel order, they weren't able to refund us. Fortunately, they were eventually able to refund this item. The restaurant was not swamped, and there seemed to be two managers or more experienced workers there who didn't seem to be helping. In terms of the food, the beef and chicken wrap bites were quite tasty. The French fries were soggy and under-fried. They were out of hummus and the other dips and sauces were bland. The falafel was just OK - it didn't seem to have many herbs or much else going on. Unlikely to go back to One Bite.

Yelp
On Halloween night, this was a great place to get something hot. Food didn't come out super fast, but I appreciate that food is made to order including our French Fries. They were fried fresh and seasoned well. I liked the garlic "toum" type sauce the best. If you're health conscious, then maybe skip the "smoothies" as they are not fresh/frozen fruit smoothies - more like syrupy smoothies. Despite being really busy, the cashier was friendly.

Yelp
The wait is longer than a sit down restaurant. As a matter of fact a few guests and us left the queue after already waiting for a while. Don't get me wrong. There wasn't a long line but after you reach the cashier to order your food and were told it's going to take 20-25 minutes there was no desire to stay and eat. I can't comment on the quality of the food since I didn't have a chance to eat. The whole space smells like fried food. Even fast food chain like Wendy's or burger king have better ventilation system.

Yelp
This spot just opened up recently and I got to try it out today. My brother ordered the falafel shawarma and they were very accommodating to make me a side of chicken to adorn my order of small fries with. The falafel shawarma was thoroughly enjoyed and was said to be very flavorful and fresh tasting. My order of fries was the perfect size and the fries come seasoned which was a nice surprise. It also came with some ketchup packets and what I think was mayo. The side of chicken was a large serving and it was also well seasoned and very delicious. The actual space still looks like they are getting it fully decorated with some bare walls and empty displays. The service was friendly and was timely for being a single employee. I'm glad to know this spot has some tasty food and I will definitely be back.

Yelp
Well dang ... this place is GOOD!! I was feeling a bit ornery, as it seemed to be taking them longer than I would expect for "fast food." Well, made sense after eating -- made with love, tastes great!

Yelp
My buddy and I happened upon this place on Castro St at 11:30 pm on a Friday; it is a welcomed late night alternative to all of the pizza and Mexican food options. Holy smokes this food is delicious! The falafel wrap was so well balanced, the fries were perfectly seasoned, and they even serve Double Rainbow ice cream. The guys running the place were super sweet and kind. My friend and I split the falafel wrap and fries and then chased it with a scoop of ice cream each. I will definitely be back. It is so great to have this option for late night and afternoon and evening dining! If you are a vegetarian and are looking for a deliciously balanced meal, One bite is the real deal.

Yelp
It was ok... it could have been better. The meat was well seasoned. And it was cool it got to my place quick through door dash.

Yelp
I'm shocked, the Castro is known for drunk food and amazing gems. This place is like wow. First thing I noticed is that they had baklava from baklava story so I had high expectations. But their shawarma was like a mix of a quesadilla and a shawarma. Extremely cheesy and meaty. And the portions were amazing. I was even shocked that the baklava was still as good compared to fresh from the bakery. Absolutely love. Glad it's in the Castro, this an hot Johnny's are surprisingly exceptional especially for an area surrounded by bars.

Yelp
Omg BEST North African food I've had in the States. The chicken shawarma, hummus, and chicken platter is ABSOLUTELY Delicious! The service is AMAZING too!

Coco R.

Yelp
The chicken wrap is excellent, extremely tender and juicy. Simple and well executed ! Thank you so much

Yelp
A fantastic addition to the neighborhood! We got the seven bite falafel and seven bite chicken to go, and they were both very delicious and definitely different than typical. The four bite size is plenty of food for one person. One suggestion: the restaurant really needs to do more to bring people in from the street. At the very least there needs to be an attractive menu in the window so passerby can peruse the menu from the outside. Try this place out!

Yelp
Wow!! This place was soooo good, like roll my eyes to the back of my head good. Also the customer service was lovely. He told me I'd def be back and he's not wrong - also the baklava was perhaps the best I've ever had. Delish. Perfect after drinking food too.

Yelp
Tried this on a whim a few weeks back as I was waiting for my ride. The falafel wrap was delicious. So I went back yesterday to sample more. My family and I agree we'll be back. We tried it all-- chicken, beef, and falafel bites were fresh and delicious. The fries were crispy and yummy. The service was great. We ate too quickly before remembering to take photos. Next time.

Yelp
OH MY GAWD!!!!!!! Went in to try the chicken Shawarma wrap with the fries. The shawarma is amazing, the fries are skinny and seasoned! The dipping sauces for the fries is hummus and a garlic one. Came here after a few clients recommended it, did not disappoint will be back soon! Good and service amazing.

Yelp
Such a great addition to the hood! Tried the beef shawarma and loved it. the fries are just a hair on the salty side (and I love salt) but it's a minor grievance.

Fandango L.

Yelp
Anyone home? Tried going twice yesterday afternoon, and there was no staff present, no service. And the air/atmosphere was really greasy. When I got home my hair and clothes smelled of grease, and I wasn't even there long enough to get any food since there was no one there to take orders or prepare food. I've had falafel wrap there a couple of times, first time shortly after they opened and liked it, second time too greasy. I won't be going back any time soon.

Yelp
Pretty new spot, looked promising since I love a good late night shawarma and they really delivered. Falafel wrap and shawarma both super tasty, prices are fair, dudes working are nice. Tahini, hummus, and toum were all really good but the wraps are moist and hot even without condiments. Not the "falafel salad with fresh heirloom radishes" type spot, this is a classic fast affordable joint to get you the falafel fix you need and they're really good at it.

Belin K.

Yelp
I tried this last night and was weary since I couldn't see the meat spinning. I ordered the 4 bite chicken wrap and it was very good. All sides of the wrap were griddled. Ordering was confusing bc I didn't understand how 4 bite differed from the wrap. I think 4 bite is bigger than the wrap. I'm excited to come back and try more items. They definitely need to put a menu in the window. The seats indoors are uncomfy to sit in for very long. Hopefully people pop in and try this place, it's much better than the gyro place across the street. It'd be great if they played music.

Jacob A.

Yelp
I ordered the falafel sandwich and the Shawarma sandwich and Shawarma plate. All three were delicious. Cashier was very helpful and friendly. Places is really nice and clean.

Michael G.

Yelp
The food was mediocre at best. The restaurant was smokey we walked out smelling bad. Refrigerator was broken only warm deinks. The hummus was really good the only bright spot.

T B.

Yelp
No problem with the store, but I suggested they get a hot fudge machine. People expect it.

Amine C.

Yelp
Chef Mounibe offer me a nice service and great food quantity and quality thank you chef

Abo a.

Yelp
It takes some time, but it's worth the wait! It's the best Shawarma and the best Falafel you can ever taste at this restaurant

David D.

Yelp
I had lunch here today. I ordered the falfel 2 bite with french fries and 2 side sauces. The falafel was delicious, came with a large order of french fry potatos. The potion size is good. I like the tahini and garlic sauce. I will plan to come back and try other selections. I was helped my this friendly guy named Felix. Come here and try the food, very reasonable and delicious.

Abraham M.

Yelp
Shawarma I ordered was amazing ordered the chicken shawarma and the falafel shawarma is my favorite one to order amazing spot food is great the service amai

Antonio C.

Yelp
Best falafel wrap in the city. They could do with better signage on the street as it can be easily passed by.

Lamont T.

Yelp
I'd love to review the food and service but I've tried twice and both times the guys are outside smoking, see me walk in, won't even say "hello, I'll be right in", they just give me dirty looks. The decision for me to not come back was made by them, not me.

S Z.

Yelp
Delicious schwarma wrap! Grabbed one walking and it was really unbelievably good. New spot, excited to try more items on the menu!

Brian M.

Yelp
Had the most delicious schwarma here! Does anyone know their phone number? Please help, we want to support the business!

S A.

Yelp
Not the best. Food takes a while to make, and is not authentic at all. The sauce is too much, and the food loses its original charm. The guys that work here are nice, but let their friends go behind the counter and sing and talk which delays orders.

Melissa R.

Yelp
Don't be deceived by appearances. Delicious food is hiding behind the unassuming exterior. The menu is not posted on the window but the friendly staff will explain it to you. Basically "bite" means a slice of a shawarma wrap or a falafel wrap. So a 4-bite wrap is a wrap that is cut into 4 slices, etc. The food is very fresh, made to order, and very good. Great addition to the neighborhood

Raibeart T.

Yelp
Shawarmas are traditionally made with lamb or mutton, and the meat is usually roasted on a vertical spit. If I walk into a shawarma joint and I don't see a vertical spit, then I walk out. I don't mind if they also offer chicken or beef or wombat shawarmas, but if they don't have lamb, I'm not interested.

Carolyn Z.

Yelp
Delicious beef schawarma with lots of fries and two sauces! Its on my block and I will come here again, definitely. The prior business at this location did not offer the kind of food I like. Hope One Bite stays.

Matt C.

Yelp
Fantastic food and company. Made fresh to order, and the service was impeccable. They offer a much needed alternative to shawarma in the Castro

Brian M.

Yelp
Stopped in on a Tuesday night. Admittedly, not the busiest night in the Castro so it was very quiet in this restaurant. The guy working the counter was very friendly. The chicken shawarma that I had was delicious. I hope this place makes it because I really enjoyed the food.
