Where Shenseea Goes For Caribbean Food, Wings & Peri Peri Chicken

"I was at a studio and one of my producers ordered me their jerk chicken with ripe plantains and rice and peas. I think it's probably the best jerk chicken I've tasted outside of Jamaica in the US. It's spicy. They have a sauce as well that's so good. I have to get two every time I go there. Ever since I tasted that, every time I go to the studio, my first pick for food is One876. I always get the same thing. It's just how I am. I don't like to be disappointed with food. So when I find something that I really, really love, I always get it until I get tired of it. I don't like to be disappointed, especially when I'm really hungry. It's one of my biggest icks." - brennan carley

This place is hands-down, the most authentic Jamaican food you will get in California. The chef is from Jamaica. The food is fresh made to order melts in your mouth is always the best cuts of meat. I always get the salmon and the red snapper. My husband gets the oxtails, their cabbage and rice and beans are Simply delicious. Definitely a must go to.

Google
As a Jamaican who came from the east side I’m disappointed… if your familiar with Dutch pot in south Florida….this is not the place to go.…why the rice and peas so dry with no flavor? No coconut milk nothing, dry like it stale?. Waste of money for my plate of food which was fish and the sides that come with. I was so happy for a Sunday fish meal. Fish was 8/10 The sides 4/10 (rice cabbage, festival, plantain) Should’ve just bought groceries instead….ive eaten here like 3 times and it always seems to fail me sadly! 😭 this was $38 Will I still recommend? Yes I love my people but I do not taste my people food! 😭

Google
This was by far the best oxtail I’ve had in the state. I’m from the east coast and I grew up around a lot of Jamaicans Who cooked authentic Jamaican food and this is what I have to say is the epitome of just that. Anybody who says anything else is talking out of their a**. The only thing I’m upset about is that I only discovered them the week I’m moving out of LA but I will be making the best of this last week. Also the festivals are amazing cabbage was Cooked. Kudos to the chef!!!

This place gets 2 stars, mostly because of bad service. I'm assuming the "dude" in there mean muggin' and staring at paying customers was the owner. The cashier looked "afraid" of him and made sure to look at him before answering any question asked of her. The oxtails and meat patty were good. The lack of forks or napkins wasn't good. What also wasn't good was after having to go back in and ask for forks and napkins was being given 1 fork and 1 napkin for 2 people. The lemon cake was missing either eggs or milk, I couldn't tell which. Yeah - No. I won't be back.

Google
Worst Jamaican restaurant ever. First of all, they’re restroom is out of service. Second of all, one beef patty shouldn’t cost $4.50 so I didn’t buy one. I ordered a jerk pork meal which was way too salty and so dry I couldn’t even chew it. The cabbage was way too soft, it like they cooked it and then reheated it up later so it was over cooked. I also ordered a jerk chicken WINGS meal. When I opened the box, they put jerk chicken leg and thigh inside. I gave it back and told them I ordered wings and that’s when they gave us the chicken wings. I also ordered a side of oxtails which cost $12.65 and when I opened the box they put 5 small pieces of oxtail inside. They said a side of oxtail is only 5 pieces hahaha. Now that’s a RIP OFF.. I told them that’s not worth $12.65 so I wanted a refund. They said they can’t authorize refunds so they have to call the boss so I waited. Finally they gave me $12.25 back. Didn’t even get the full refund back nor did I get the tax that I paid on it. I also ordered a side of jerk chicken to take home and these people make Jamaicans look bad. They couldn’t even make a good jerk chicken. It was burnt and had no flavor. Guys, please please please don’t waste your time or money here. This is not how Jamaican Food is supposed to taste… If you want real Jamaican Food, look up Country Style Jamaican Restaurant in Inglewood. It’s a bit of a drive but it’s definitely worth it.

I ordered the oxtails large and large curry goat, take from a fellow jamaican this food taste really good.

The food is really great for what we were able to eat. We went in the evening and the restaurant was out of Jerk Chicken! We really wanted to have that because you know thats the standard for most caribbean spots. We ordered 3 jerk shrimp platters, but found out while waiting that there wasn't enough for all three. This is the only reason for the 3-star rating. Inside the restaurant, the dining room is minimally decorated with basic tables and metal red, black, and green chairs. A large screen television plays music videos from Caribbean and Afro-beat artists ushering in an island vibe. Overall, it's a bit pricey but worth the visit. Just be careful because I've heard of people going multiple days in a row. ALLERGEN ALERT: The shrimp patties contain imitation crab. The curry chicken is full of flavor and isn't overbearing on the curry. I'm not a big curry lover and I would order it again. However, the chicken is cooked on the bone so be prepared for bones. The jerk shrimp are cooked with onions and bell peppers and are full of spice from their signature jerk sauce. It was a tad salty, but I'd order it again. The plates come with plenty of rice and peas so you have plenty of carbs to soak up the heat. The wait for meals can be long during peak dinner time, so I can only imagine the lunch rush. They have Ting and other Jamaican sodas. I tried a combination of Pineapple/Ginger and Sorrel/Ginger juices. The meat patties are delicious and don't lack on flavor either. I had the Jerk chicken patty and if the plate chicken tastes anything like the patty, I will need to be prepared for the heat.

Google
Two people working at the time..there hustling on a busy Sunday. Call in your order ahead of time they make it fresh. I ordered the Taye's fav goat curry and Jerk chicken. The dishes come with side rice and beans, one plantain, one small sweet cinnamon bread and cabbage mix with veggies. Every bite was delicious. The goat curry was a lil too salty for my taste. I still ate every last thing on my plate

Yelp
Went to the new location in LA, the food was superb! Oxtail plate 10 outta10 recommend! Short Rib was excellent as well. Customer service amazing. Ambiance was very comfortable, a vibe. Keep up the momentum One876! 5 stars

Yelp
Legit some of the best jamaican food here in the valley. Everything is made with quality ingredients and feels homemade. Affordable. Will be adding to my regular frequent spots

Yelp
Curry Chicken - Extremely salty and spicy. I love spice, but this was too much. Beef Patty/Jerk Chicken patty - frozen, commercial type patty. I thought it would be house made. Oxtail - way too spicy; tiny portion (but oxtails are expensive so it makes sense.) otherwise delicious. Rice and Peas - delicious!!! Pineapple and ginger - extra heavy on the ginger; but I liked it in small doses. Pineapple Cake- served thawed. Previously frozen. Was hoping it was fresh. currently sitting on the counter waiting to get to room temperature, then I can assess. I don't think I'll order from here again, but I'm glad I had the experience.

Yelp
Another Jamaican spot in the Valley! Had to give them a shot. I got the Boston jerk pork and my wife got the ackee and saltfish - which she tends to break open new Jamaican restaurant experiences with. We were running errands in the area, but by the time we arrived, around five or so, it was just us and the staff. The place has an adequate amount of space to the dining room, but with both TV monitors off and no other patrons, it seemed a little more appropriate to eat our food at home. Mentioning this to largely say that the food traveled back well to Sherman Oaks. The heat was still there by the time we dug in. The jerk pork did come off a grill. A nice plus, given the cuisine and the advertising for the item. Not a lot of heat to it, but the spiciness had a presence. The bbq sauce concoction the pork comes with didn't taste like it came from the store and the dumpling in the sauce I guess helped for some house made authenticity. It didn't do much for enhancing the plate though. The rice and peas were very okay. Tasted a little on the old side, but we know these day-long batches of food at Caribbean/soul food places are most available and best enjoyed earlier in the day. My wife was not too impressed with the majority ackee in her ackee and saltfish plate. I had to eat her festival bread and she was less spirited about finishing her half of the beef patty we also ordered - which was flavorful and had a good crust-to-filling ratio. The food we had can satisfy a lot of people who are happy enough to say they know what Jamaican food is, with One876 being their only exposure to the cuisine. The elements of our plates seem to work way better as wholes, if you aren't scrutinizing the quality of the parts on their own. This place checks a box for having had a certain kind of food, without being remarkable. My guess is that their chicken probably does the heavy lifting with a majority of their patrons' impressions. I'm planning to try one of their several chicken dishes on my next visit, with a slice of cake. They do have an attractive menu of dessert options to complete any meal.

Yelp
I come for the food and leave with the vibes. The pine ginger is always fresh and spicy plus The Jerk is fire - I highly recommend. (The staff is also very polite)

Yelp
Like this place but you literally gotta be a man to get some gravy on your plate smh for the cost the least I can get is some damn gravy! This the second time this has happened.
google avatar

Yelp
I ordered curry shrimp, rice and peas. The rice and peas were pale and unflavored. The shrimp was cold as a brick and the curry was only warm. $27 for absolutely nothing because it was inedible. I was highly disappointed because I want to this place last year and it was so good I took my friends back this year and no one had a pleasant experience. 0/10 wouldn't definitely not recommend!

Yelp
Yum yum this is absolutely my favorite Jamaican restaurant in the valley. The oxtail is delicious and so is the curry goat rice and peas is prepared perfectly. Service was prompt I ordered ahead and it was ready at the time I requested. There's seating available if needed it's very casual atmosphere. P.s don't forget to grab yourself a Jamaican beef patty.
google avatar

Krystal M.

Yelp
As close to authentic Caribbean food as you're going to get! I highly recommend this spot
google avatar

Leah L.

Yelp
Tried the lunch special with curry chicken. I enjoyed the food--flavorful but not too peppery. The price seems high, like most things ever since someone named Donald messed up the economy in 2017-2020. I would definitely return.
google avatar

Miziel R.

Yelp
Have been craving for Jamaican patty and found this place - ordered the following: Marley's fave oxtail - came with bean & rice, plantain, hush puppies and steamed veggies...it's delicious! Highly recommend Jerk chicken lunch special- came with the same sides...another addition to my favorites! Beef Patty - craving satisfied delicious! Jamaican Kola Champagne - something new to me...glad I tried Island treasure hot pepper sauce - to top it all off Service is fast and friendly! If you're in the area, well even if you're not...it's worth driving for. Jah mon!

Nasari B.

Yelp
Amazing food! Honestly I only ever get the same thing, jerk shrimp dinner that comes with rice & peas, cabbage and plantains. As someone who know good Caribbean food, the flavor is awesome! The service is always really good. This isn't a place you would really sit down and eat at, it's more of a pick up and eat at home vibe. Oh! And I can't forget their bomb pineapple and ginger drink. AMAZING!
google avatar

Chan B.

Yelp
I ordered takeout from here recently and was very impressed! I ordered the brown stew chicken. It was so tender and packed with flavor! Definitely my favorite part of my meal. It came with a large side of rice which was good but I wasn't blown away by it by any means. It was a bit basic for me but that's just a preference thing or maybe I expected this exciting take on rice, I'm not sure haha. The plantain on the side was delicious. Also got a side of the meat Patty and that was super tasty!! Really enjoyable. Definitely will be back!
google avatar

Yelp
Nope! Jerk chicken was dry af rice was dry af the cake was old and stale and when you walk in the energy is bad . Absolutely no customer service like literally the guy didn't say one word. Hard Pass

Tesha C.

Yelp
Tried it today jerky chicken was dry and hard as well as festival was hard and dry as if it was re-cooked. This will be my last time going there, and on top of it Hair was in my food.i wish I could give it back and get my money back

Elea S.

Yelp
Great food and service! Flavors great! Oxtails were tender and so good! The valley needs Caribbean food and this is one of the best!
google avatar

Lashay G.

Yelp
I don't know if I went on an off day, but I was highly disappointed in this mac & cheese. I usually just stick with the oxtails plate but wanted to shake things up this time so I got a side of the mac & cheese and this is what I received. Just cheese
google avatar

Michelle V.

Yelp
Amazing customer service, delicious food, can't wait to try the other menu items. I had Marley's Favorite Oxtail. Rich , savory, and flavorful! A must try. The oxtail was tender and saucy. The sides were a nice complement too. Highly recommended.

Yelp
I just left One876 and had to write this immediately! I ordered CURRY GOAT NOT CURRY BEEF!!!! I've been eating CURRY GOAT for a half of century. This place is TRASH. They give REAL JAMAICANS a bad name!! ZERO STARS‼
google avatar

Andre S.

Yelp
If you're looking for authentic Jamaican food that is packed with flavor, you have to give this restaurant a try. The jerk chicken was moist and cooked to perfection. The oxtails were falling off the bone and equally packed with flavor. While eating our meal, I felt like I was teleported back to island of Jamaica. The level of customer service was excellent, I felt seen and heard as a customer. Make sure you ask for oxtail gravy for your rice and peas. You will not regret it. #SupportingLocalBusinesss #one876
google avatar

Jean D.

Yelp
I can't believe they sold me a plate of inedible chicken for $24. The jerk chicken had zero flavor. It's like they took some raw chicken out the packaging and stuck it in the oven until all the natural juices were out then served it over dry rice with whatever that brown gravy was. I had sworn off this place a couple years ago after a couple of bad meals but a friend convinced me to give it another shot. I just threw away most of it. I got about one drumstick worth of chicken out of the whole thing. Never again!!!
google avatar

Girlie T.

Yelp
First time today and probably last. My dude said the man said no more beans. Grant it was 530pm and empty. 2nd issue he was rude and we are big on customer service. Your food has to be on point to get past that. The oxtails were just ok along with the chicken, rice was hard with not much beans. We only liked the cabbage lol I guess we can always return and get a plate of cabbage. lol But, we are big on customer service especially if we are all POC.
google avatar

Timothy B.

Yelp
You never disappointed. The last 2 visits have not been even okay. The rice and peas were cold. And I paid for 2 lrg jerk plates and got chicken parts (3 drum sticks, a wing, and 2 cutup thighs in 1 lrgplate). $66 buck? The 1 plantain, pineapple ginger drink, and 1 fried dumpling were the saving grace. It was more like. I paid for leftovers from the fridge that needed to be heated up before eating. Where are the cooks at?? I was just disappointed in the food and not the staff. One final thing. Pressure wash the front area of your business, please.
google avatar

Daniel B.

Yelp
I was just cruising down the road looking for something to eat when I passed this location and felt authenticity. I really can't put my finger on why because the outside is nondescript. This is as real as it gets. I went with the staff fav of Oxtail and was blown away. Looking forward to trying everything on the menu. Nice staff. The real deal good.

Yelp
Jamaica is one my favorite islands to visit because of the ambiance and the amazing food!! This place reminds me of Jamaica!! BEST Jamaican food in this area! I would recommend the oxtails, curry goat and the beef patties. The food is fresh and well seasoned. Plenty of parking and you can call ahead to pickup your order. Dine in is available too. Highly recommended! Carrot Cake 5 stars too!!! AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE! See you soon!
google avatar

Dijon W.

Yelp
They either a hit or a MISS trust ambiance is boring sometimes they skimp on the oxtails n chicken depending on they mood fr
google avatar

Sammy B.

Yelp
Food was ehhh. I asked for spicy jerk chicken and spicy chicken soup. Not spicy at all and the do not have Jamaican hot available, they have siracha though?! Hmmm but they sale Jamaican hot sauce but it's not available for dine in. Was very very disappointed as there was very little flavor and very dry jerk chicken.

Adrionne M.

Yelp
The food here is amazing I've always loved coming here since I discovered it. I usually get the jerk wings and a beef patty. My lady usually gets the oxtail and we are both always satisfied
google avatar

Ty B.

Yelp
STILL LOVE IT HERE! Super clean restaurant with a friendly staff as well. By far my favorite Jamaican restaurant in the valley! The food is super flavorful and delicious, it's a little pricey but it's more than worth the money bc i usually i'll have food left over for later. I highly recommend stopping by for authentic Jamaican food if you're ever in the area or willing to drive out!! The Rasta Pasta plate has me in a chokehold rn lol

Antoine T.

Yelp
I ordered oxtails, jerk, chicken, first the jerk chicken is dry, no juice in the meat. The cabbage is overcooked, the rice is so dry taste like two day old rice. Oxtail small portion for a large portion, flooded the plate with rice. Disappointed, if you're going to represent Jamaica-represent it. Food is garbage.

Yelp
Very very good spot with some great dishes that not many places offer, authentic good food highly recommend best in the area by a long way
google avatar

Janette B.

Yelp
I recently stopped by this restaurant on my lunch break from work, and was pleased by this staff who were really engaging and pleasant to talk with. Trudy and I had a good conversation talking about Jamaica today, Port Royal and all the food I felt like I was back in JA. I ordered the lunch special of jerk chicken with the oxtail sauce and it instantly brought me back to the beautiful island of Jamaica. They also have a small selection of Jamaican spices and foods as well as drinks. I really enjoyed my experience at one876 restaurant I will definitely be back!
google avatar

Aneisha H.

Yelp
The drive was worth it. The food was good and fresh. I went again the next week though and wasn't as impressed and noticed it was a different chef on duty. I recommend and there was free limited parking. Everything tasted authentic the first time but the second time I was disappointed
google avatar

Christina M.

Yelp
Hands down my favorite Jamaican food spot!!!! Every time I go there it's always clean and everyone is so nice. The food is so delicious. I have to admit this is probably my fifth time there and I needed to leave a review. so much flavor. Plus they give you a very good amount of food.

Lovely K.

Yelp
Great food and customer service. I'll be back again soon! If you're thinking of trying this restaurant out, you should.
google avatar

Yelp
Wahhhh gwan!!!!! This is the best Jamaican food in Los Angeles!! I'm addicted to the oxtails . Always fresh and fast service .
google avatar

Grace P.

Yelp
Parking: decent amount of spaces but small lot (not their fault) My interaction was less than 3 minutes because I just came in to pick up some beef patties None of the staff were wearing masks, from the guy taking his break in the front, to the cashier, to the cook in the back...it's cool I'm not here to argue about that but it's funny they have a sign about having to wear masks to come in (which I'm sure they won't enforce) and yes I know i don't have to eat out if I don't wanna run into this...but just letting people know in case it bothers them more than it bothered me Patty is fine...meat was a little dry but I'm not too well versed in Jamaican food so I'm not sure if that's how it usually is. Flavors were fine, not as flavorful as the other place I go to Easy contactless payment for patty that's almost $5/piece
google avatar

Nikkia W.

Yelp
I have tried quite a few Jamaican restaurants and have never been fully satisfied, but I tried One876 for the second time & they don't disappoint. This go round I had the jerk shrimp plate, my man had the oxtail plate & beef Pattie's. Everything was a 10/10! Very flavorful & good portions! Would highly recommend

Yelp
My only go to Jamaican cuisine in the valley to eat, always giving great tasting food and moderate prepositions of food, never disappointed!

Yelp
I come here often and the food is always made quickly and is the best Caribbean food around! I even got a cupcake for my birthday!

Yelp
Whent for lunch on a weekday wasent busy. I ordered the chicken curry it was great, quick to make too. They have some good juices also, real fruits used.

Shawnique M.

Yelp
Hands down, they've brought Jamaican vibes to Cali. I recently had a photo shoot, and they provided catering services. Everything was top-notch, enhancing the spice and flavor of the shoot. The catering process was easy and pleasant. I ordered patties, curry shrimp, steam fish, and jerk chicken, and by the time the shoot ended, everyone wanted to either book a ticket to Jamaica or return to One 876. Thank you to all the staff at 876 for making this happen. Fire name to i just realized what it means

Yelp
THIS PLACE IS A SCAM - The cashier overly charged us on our order. We ordered one small jerk chicken and one small jerk pork, but she rang us up for two large orders. Once we realized and showed her the receipt, she gave us the biggest attitude. She rolled her eyes, opened the cash register, and gave us a few one dollar bills without apologizing or saying a word. It wasn't even near the $ difference not that she bothered checking. The jerk chicken itself was drier than bone. The oxtail was really fatty and not worth the cost. Avoid this shady fraudulent place. And if for some crazy reason you decide to go, make sure you confirm the prices before giving them your hard earned money.

Leonard L.

Yelp
everythings overpriced .. oxtails was fatty .. like super fatty. then they charge you 30 dollars for a large . your basically paying 30 dollars for cabbage and rice .. kool aid 10 dollars for a cup that's small enough for a baby, smh, robbery. I love supporting black owned businesses, but you make it hard when you doing people wrong. Sincerely, The People

I'm from Brooklyn and my family is Caribbean on both sides since moving to LA I was searching for good Jamaican food and this is the BEST spot in the entire state for real!! The food is always phenomenal and the people are so sweet and always friendly. I take everyone here. Highly HIGHLY recommend!

Yelp
There are times when I crave for both Caribbean music and Caribbean food. Having been to several Caribbean islands, I must confess that I really like their island food. One876 Restaurant is a Caribbean restaurant that resides at the corner of Lassen and De Soto. I ordered the Brown chicken stew (Jamaican) for carry out. It came with vegetables, festival (instead of plantain), rice and peas. The chicken was tender and had a mild but distinct and subtle flavor. The vegetables were delicious and so were the rice and peas. Carnival are finger sized beignets made with flour, corn meal and little sugar. The cornmeal is supposed to impart crispiness to the outer coat, leaving the inside soft. Instead, this carnival was tough and chewy. I also had the beef patty. This baked Jamaican ground beef offering was very tasty and had the right bite and texture. The restaurant also has many other tempting dishes. Need to go back to give them a try.

Leonard L.

Yelp
Literally just found a piece of metal n my ox tails. This is very un professional and disturbing
