"Onesan strays from the precious, counter-only format. It’s a full-on restaurant with a big menu that, like the name says, includes sushi and dim sum. You could easily fill up on pillowy soft short rib bao and sticky, glazed char siu ribs and call it a (successful) day. But then you’d miss out on the yellowtail sashimi brightened up with serrano and yuzu soy, and traditionally prepped nigiri like marbled salmon and plump scallops. If you’re still hungry, add a simple spicy tuna roll or a specialty roll that packs multiple fish, creamy avocado, and crispy tempura flakes into each bite." - kevin gray

"If your date is a sushi fan, this spot in Preston Hollow is a slam dunk. It’s not too fancy, not too expensive (and even cheaper during its daily happy hour), and easy to get to since it’s near so many highways. Of course, there are many well-plated sushi dishes to be had (try the nigiri and sashimi first); as far as seating, there’s a sushi counter if you two want to go all in on fresh fish, a large bar if you just want drinks and a few bites, and booths in the dining room that are cozy enough to make the rest of the room melt away. Parking is ample and free in the lot outside." - Rachel Pinn
"Dim sum and sushi happy hour are on like Donkey Kong at this North Dallas spot Tuesday through Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. Pop by for $8 cocktails including a yuzu lemon drop, Paper Lantern, and the Onesan Old Fashioned. Happy hour wines are $7 and beers run between $4 and $5. There are also $8 sushi rolls and dim sum plates, including a spicy tuna roll and hot and sour beef dumplings. It gets moody in this spot after dark, but the service keeps things simple and focused on what’s important: keeping those plates of dim sum and sushi coming." - Courtney E. Smith
"This neighborhood sushi bar and dim sum spot in North Dallas opened in the wake of the pandemic and has become a staple for the locals. It’s small, and thus only accepts reservations for a few parties over four per night. There’s a sushi counter with jade green tiles and a wealth of booths, as well as bar seating — and a whole lot of neon lighting to set a Tokyo-style mood. Chef Jimmy Duke, who trained at Nobu, specializes in stunning dishes with elaborate presentations, where sushi is served over ice and special dipping sauces that go way beyond the table soy sauce." - Rachel Pinn
