A flavorful journey with room for service improvement. The BBQ meat at Ong Ga Nae was undeniably great, offering a satisfying and authentic Korean culinary experience. The flavors and grilling experience were top-notch. However, the service left something to be desired. With just two waiters handling multiple tables, it was clear they were stretched thin. They had to juggle taking orders and assisting with the BBQ, which resulted in occasional delays and challenges in getting their attention. To enhance the overall dining experience, it would greatly benefit the restaurant to have additional staff members to provide efficient and attentive service.

The premium combo is superb! It includes out side skirt, ribeye cap, mega galbi and seng bulgogi 1/2 —— the meat is so tender and flavorful, though the portion is a bit too much for 2 ppl so we ended up taking some leftovers back home. Service is great too. The tiny plaza offered valet parking.

Came here to try their famous bulgogi, the portion was HUGE, and the four of us were so stuffed. We got the bulgolgi, bibimbap, and kimchi jigae. The flavors for all the dishes didn’t really stand out for me. The bulgolgi was an interesting experience for sure—I like that underneath that mountain of meat they do include veggies such as spinach and mushrooms. I thought the flavors were generally pretty mild, and would have liked a better spread of banchan side dishes (there wasn’t any kimchi…).

Have you been to this restaurant yet? I can confidently recommend that the quality of the meat here is the best in LA. The side dishes served separately here are also delicious. It is also run by the owners of LA's very famous 'Yanmani'. These two top food spots in LA are a must-visit.

This place is still fantastic! Great KBBQ with quality meats, unique and tasty side dishes and attentive service! This is where you go when you're over the ayce places, and want to step it up. Ever try kbbq with wasabi or homemade seafood sauce? It all goes down here! The meats are well marbled and they cook it properly for you. Went here on a Saturday night with my coworkers. Parking can be difficult so I suggest that you use the valet service. Food was excellent, we ordered the seng bulgogi (my first time having the beef cooked this way and it was delicious), Korean pancake and Korean pasta with squid(?). All of their banchan tasted good. Service was good. Will definitely come back for more.

Best KBBQ so far in town 😊 nowadays KBBQ is a bit spicy and a bit hard to find a good one at fair price. Ong GA Nae has not only good quality meat but also friendly service and fair price deal. This is the restaurant that you wanna check out whenever you are in Ktown.

We came here because we were in LA and had been to the Rowland heights location multiple times. Definitely more of a kbbq vibe instead of a traditional Korean restaurant vibe and a slightly different menu. However the signature dish remained the same.

On 8th, a few days ago my mother and I were having my friends 63rd birthday dinner at this place. If I can describe in one word , excellent! Those young waiters were so kind and professional. They handled our food so professionally. I can definitely recommend to all.

We would visit this place almost 6 times a week. The first owners where the best once. sadly after covid ownership changed but food stayed the same. This third owner will be the one that will kill this restaurant. We would go so much we got to know the crew, when we called we asked for a specific server we knew to make a reservation. That server was recently let go, right off the bat they started talking to us rude. I guess the problem was asking for him. After they told us he was let go we where about to make a reservation, they just hung up and never picked up the phone again. Mind you this had been my spot for over 6 years. But now what made on ga nae, on ga nae, died with the first owners. ambiance was good now I will no go back again. unless the first owners buy it back we miss you

I have never been so, so disappointed with the service of a KBBQ restaurant. There were 6 of us in total and we went in for an early dinner around 4:30 (we just landed in LA). Since it was early, we were the ONLY customers in the restaurant. We ordered Combo B, which is enough for 6 people to share. Our first server, a younger male, was incredibly rude and unhelpful. We had to ask him several times for plates and utensils (not everyone had them when we were seated) and water. He seemed very annoyed whenever we reminded him that we asked for these things a while back. Our one friend has dietary restrictions, so we asked if they had kimchi that wasn't marinated. The male server pointed at the marinated kimchi on our table and said, "But you have kimchi there!" We had to explain to him about the dietary restriction, but we were so taken aback by how reluctant he was to give us a side dish that is very standard at any Korean restaurants. When our order arrived, our server didn't bother to cut or cook the meat for us, which is standard at KBBQ's. He just left the meat on the grill, which later burned because he didn't come back to cut and cook it. We thought maybe we were supposed to grill the meat ourselves, so we eventually started grilling with the wooden chopsticks. Since it was too hot, we asked him for tongs. He blankly stared at us and gave us tongs, which made us think that we really were supposed to grill the meat ourselves. However, a different server came by and clarified that she will do the cutting and grilling for us. This server was better, but she was also pretty rude. When we asked for 5 bowls to split the jjigae, she told us that there's no way we can split the jjigae 5 ways. But she quickly said, "OK, I'll give you 5 bowls anyways." She came back with only 4 bowls. I don't understand why the servers here are so reluctant to give what customers ask for, especially when the requests are not difficult or unreasonable. When more people started coming in, I noticed that the male server proceeded to grill for other customers. So it was very obvious that he had specifically didn't want to serve us. The food and space were actually decent, but because the service was so poor, no one was able to enjoy the meal. I will NOT be coming back here and I will not recommend this place to anyone.

This is my second time visiting this restaurant! Last time was before COVID back in 2019... it's become a tradition almost to come here after our work trip (from LA convention center). One of my colleagues did all of the ordering and she did such a great job, everyone was full and so satisfied! Here's what we ordered for 8 people): Seng Bulgogi (2 orders) Yuk Hew (beef tartare) Haemul Pajeon (Seafood pancake) Squid Dolsot Bibimbap Parking is easy since there is a lot. Location is also great! it's near the infamous Crab House on Vermont (they have marinated crab there).

I had my first seng bulgogi at Korea and I have never had them again until I found Ong Ga Nae few years ago. It is a mountain of good quality beef and veggies that is cooked with a delicious broth on top of a stove. This is hugeee. the menu says it serves 2-3 people, but imo it ideally serves 3 people, not 2 HAHA! At the end, they will ask if you want the glass noodles and remember to answer YES because it is the best way to end this whole experience! The noodle absorbs all the broth and it tastesss so goooodd. I usually come here at lunch time because it's much less crowded. There is usually a line around dinner time.

I didn't order the popular "yooksoo bulgogi" (bulgogi with broth) and went with all a la carte grill dishes. I had no idea this place was owned by the same person as another favorite spot of mine haha* - don't want to mention another business name. The side dishes were clean, tasty and just right for the bbq we were having. -1 for their cold noodles it was very sweet and it wasn't the best to to me but I'm sure there are people that might like the sweet cold noodles. The spicy cold noodles were good though! MEGA GALBI - I honestly thought it was just the hype and when it came out it was a little disappointing because they left it far from our table the "WOW" factor of having the large bone come out on fire was... not there but the meat was delicious! Still sad I couldn't get a good shot of the bone on fire hahaha Overall meat quality was terrific and I had no complaints. I need to go back to try the bulgogi that everyone gets.

Delish!! There were three of us and we ordered the combo A. It was plenty and everything was so good!! We especially liked the marinated boneless short rib. All the side dishes were yummy and so was the kimchi fried rice with cheese. Server was quick, friendly and attentive. Enjoyed our visit and would definitely come back when in the area again.

I decided to try this restaurant and I think I If you love marinated BBQ, you'll love this place! They have this bulgogi tower for steamed side, we ordered grill and steam dishes. One of the combo have generous selection for bbq, but for the Seng Bulgogi it's gonna be additional $90. I'm not a huge fan of marinated beef. I mean, they are good, but almost every protein here is sweet (marinated). Service is awesome. They cook it for us, the lady who help us is very very sweet.

The eight of us was craving korean bbq so we decided to go to Kanghodong. When we got there, the wait time was two hours, we were to hungry so we decided to give Ong Ga Nae a try. Before driving there, I called the restaurant and asked the waitress to save us seats - we got seated right away. The restaurant was pretty spacious and was not full. We looked at the menu and agreed that it will be better to do combos since each a la carte meal costs about $20-$35. We ended up ordering 2 BBQ Combos, Combo A and Combo B. The waiter came with the side dishes and the meats came not long after. He cooked for us and told us whenever the meat is ready. We all agreed that the overall meat quality was good, however, we still like Kanghodong more. Parking was easy, we only had paid $2 for vallet.

Ong Ga Nae is legit! I had dinner there last night and left completely full, with a bunch of leftovers. If you go it's very important that you get the seng bulgogi for $85...That translates to plain bulgogi but don't get it twisted. In this instance plain just means unmarinated. And even without marination, there is a broth at the bottom of the grill and poured on top of the meat. The bulgogi was thinly shaved allowing for quick cooking, great flavor, paired with tons of leafy greens and mushrooms. Don't let the price scare you, this mound of meat is a must get. Their banchans were all delicious, as well. Anytime a place has rice paper, my heart is happy. Kimchi, macaroni salad, fish cakes, japchae~ all was very solid. Once you're done with the main meats, add the noodles to keep the party going. Service was above and beyond friendly and helpful. Not many places take reservations in KTown, but they do, so definitely do that because it can get busy. Valet/Lot parking for just $2 but it is a very small lot. Ong Ga Nae is such a different type of KBBQ experience, we def didn't have anything like it in Chicago. I'll be taking all my homies from the Chi when they visit.

Was my cousins bday and she wanted to eat here again so we came to fulfill her wishes lol. Food was fricken delicious and the service was pleasant and quick. The mountain of beef and the meat cuts for bbq was delicious. They have a great selection of side dishes. Just note, please wear something that won't smell on your clothes lol BRB

*vaccination verification required* This place had me at beef, broth and kbbq! Came across ktown and wanted to try something new and I was glad I found this place Came by this place on Saturday for lunch. Drove around the block looking for parking, there wasn't any luck so as I was reading through everyone's review about parking, found that behind the restaurant, there is a private lot! (Thank goodness- because you know how hard it can be to park in ktown) Parking: The private lot is right behind the restaurant, which is next to a car shop. There is a black gate, with a sign where you can call for them to open if the gate is closed, just let them know that you're here for the restaurant. Clean & helpful: Being a first timer, the staff was very helpful in explaining the menu. They give you the card with the qr code so you need to scan to view the menu on the phone or if you request a physical menu, they have it as well. Before we got seated, they checked our vaccination card so make sure you have it ready with your ID. Being our first time here, we weren't sure what we were going to order. Here I thought we were able to order both korean bqq AND the broth special beef, but that would have been A LOT of food for two. Glad the staff explained it to us and we ended up with the Combo A. It was more than enough to feed two. Food was great and so was the service as the staffs were attentive with cooking, turning down the heat and serving us! Cannot wait to come back to try their broth combo!

I always get the seng bulgogi when I'm here which feeds around 2-3 people for $84.95. The price has gone up over the years but it's expected with inflation. They always give you lots of banchan which is refillable. They cook the meat for you and pour a sukiyaki based broth which makes the meal very comforting and delicious. They give you rice paper and radish to wrap the meat. The portions are generous and they also include veggies and mushrooms. At the end of the meal, they let you add in glass noodles which soaks up all the flavor of the meat and is a great end to the meal. I always leave this place feeling full and satisfied! Highly recommend! Would recommend reservations if coming with a bigger party. Parking is valet in their lot.

Insaneeeee and I don't understand why people don't talk about this spot more?! We got the Seng Bulgogi which is one of the items on their special menu. It's basically bulgogi hot pot since they pour the broth all over the raw meat to cook it. The broth is comparable to a sukiyaki broth - sweet but slightly savory. The meat paired with the broth, japchae, spinach, and mushrooms made it the perfect home-y, comfort dish. The order on the menu says it's recommended for 2 people but it could definitely feed 3 and maybe even 4 if everyone's not is starving. The banchan here is prob my fave selection I've ever had at any Korean spot also. Highly highly recommend and will definitely be coming back whenever I'm in the area!!

Seng Bulgogi is definitely a must try! We four people (girls fyi) ordered one that is enough cuz it's a huge amount with beef and spinach:) cooked in a secret broth with some fruits juice blended inside. The guys here are very nice and they will come to help you in time so kind. Besides, we went there Wednesday night and the capacity is pretty good we just walk in and have a seat for us four. Finally we have $50 ish per person in a nutshell it's a wonderful place to try!

I like ong ga nae a lot. The seng bulgogi combo feeds four people and is a really reasonable price. The food is solid. If you like the bulgogi taste, imagine a soupy version of that in larger quantity with veggies. The banchans are solid too. I took my parents here and they enjoyed it. I'd go again!

I left review my disappointment with the service I received during my visit to your restaurant on April 22, 2023, at 1:30 pm. I had high expectations for my visit, but unfortunately, my experience fell short of those expectations. The main issue I encountered was the lack of attention from the servers. Despite the restaurant being relatively quiet, the servers were not attentive to my table. I had to ask them twice for a refill of side dishes, which took a long time to arrive. Moreover, I had to ask for the bill several times, which made me feel like I was being ignored. Please avoid to visit here Saturday after 1:30

I went here this week with the rents because they wanted seng bulgogi. Giving it a 4 star since I thought it was $$$ for what you get. The seng bulgogi was good but not phenomenal. It was a little bit too sweet in my opinion. I def will be back just to give it a second try but it's still one of the best bulgogi spots I've been to in KTOWN

I came here almost 3-5 years ago with a recommendation from my dad but got to have it again and it just never beats. I recommend getting the seng bulgogi which is a house made sweet bulgogi broth with thinly sliced meat, spinach, enoki and shiitake mushrooms. If you're a fan of hot pot or shabu shabu, it's something like that. Minimum is 2 orders, but that's enough for 3 people with the rice and fermented radish wrap. It was still so good and their side dishes weren't bad. Additionally, they come out with glass noodles and they do all the cooking for you! Also, I'm usually not the person to get dibs on their kimchi, but the bokchoy and sweet apple-y kimchi sauce was sooo good! Also plenty of parking and we came on a Friday night at 630pm and it wasn't as busy as we thought it would be!

Came here 10/20/2021. Large portions but also a hefty price. This review is from a while ago so will keep it short. Ong Ga Nae is not an "American Korean BBQ." I think they are not AYCE as well. They serve a traditional Korean BBQ that is catered to the taste of Koreans. I got the bulgogi combo that comes with tons of spinach, bulgogi, and onions. It's pretty good but a bit bland, overall the meat quality was high. Waitresses are efficient and know what they're doing, prices are a bit high, food is fresh but not super flavorful.

This was a last minute stop after a show downtown and it was excellent. We did a two person combo and the famous bulgogi and it was absolutely delicious. The ambiance is lively and casual. Very good impromptu dinner and would definitely go back!

Korean BBQ is a must for any LA trip and was happy to come to Ong Ga Nae. Friday night close to 9 PM we were seated right away. Do love that you can reserve via Yelp as well. We ordered their combination A which came with cha dol, pork belly, and two kinds of galbi. Plenty of side dishes, though the salsa and cilantro one was a bit odd and we didn't eat those. Service was great as we asked for more rice cake wrappers, but we did end up grilling our meat half the time to not let it burn. The meat quality was really great though the galbi was heavily marinated and salty. The meat that came out on a bone wasn't as good as I expected as I got a lot of gristle and was chewy. I didn't realize you had to request the rice and stew the meal comes with but we were so full we could barely make a dent to the meat between the two of us. Overall, really great staff and clean location. Prices have seemed to gone up due to Covid or rising meat costs.

Went to dinner here recently with 3 friends, one of whom is Korean. Living in K-town and eating a lot of Korean food, it was really fun to try something that was new to me. We ate the seafood pancake which was very tasty. We also had some glass noodles that very good. The star of the night for me was the seng bulgogi!! So completely delicious. Love the different varieties of mushrooms that cook in the soup/ sauce, and eaten along with the beef bulgogi, it's truly a delicious change from the standard Korean BBQ

Easy to make rsvp. Valet parking is in front. Staff was nice and attentive. We enjoyed the food and soju here. My favorites are galbi and marinated short rib beef. They have a variety of side dishes, and most of them are fresh and tasty. We love the strawberry soju

Decent KBBQ joint. What really made this place different was the excellent customer service. They were able to accommodate our large party and made the effort to grill the meats on time. Meats were good quality and side dishes were plentiful and complemented the meal well.

I started coming here even before the previous ownership but recently the same management of Yangmani took it over. They are most known for their yuksoo bulgogi (aka bulgogi with broth and veggies). Usually the order can feed 2-3 people they say but it's filling for even 4. The beef is very fresh and top quality and goes great with the broth and veggies. I do think they could include a bit more veggies but good nonetheless. They also give glass noodles at the end to finalize your dinner experience. They take reservations so highly recommend making one before coming. There's also an additional lot you can park at for free so call the restaurant if the gate is closed (it's next door, where the car shop is). Taste has managed almost the same but level of service can vary depending on how busy they are. The waiters typically cook the meat for you and you can get other types of korean bbq as well. The naengmyun is a nice dish to order at the end to wash everything down. The noodles taste store bought though but the broth is refreshing.

Tried for the first time today. Awesome experience. There are lots of K BBQ places in Koreatown however this place stands out. One can tell all the care behind every dish. And the staff is amazing. So friendly, courteous, and attending. Ong Ga Nae is my new favorite K BBQ place in Koreatown. Got the combo and there was so much food. Price was more than fair. I would give 10 stars if I could. Do yourself a favor and try this great restaurant.

Now that I'm older I have a newfound appreciation for quality over quantity when it comes to meat. This place does not offer AYCE (all you can eat). We were served a plentiful variety of banchan which I completely devoured. I don't normally see white kimchi and acorn jelly offered so that was a pleasant surprise! Their rice paper was also steamed very nicely and it was easier to peel compared to what I'm used to. I had a great time here and can't wait to come back! * Combo A * We ordered this for 2 people and it was more than enough for us. They cooked and cut the meat for us which is always nice since I would be afraid to overcook the nicer cuts of meat. The prime rib was deliciously meaty and so tender.

Shared a combo A with 2 friends. Portions were perfect for the 3 of us, mega kalbi presentation was cool and the meat was very tender, marinades and flavors for everything was great, even for a person who eats kbbq way more often than they should. Only minus was that they were understaffed, so with the lack of attention to the grill, most of our meat ended up getting burned. We also asked for refills of some sides that never came. But everything still tasted great so we finished the meal. The smoke vents didn't work great (especially with the burning) so we left with burning eyes and smelling like delicious bbq for hours later which is pretty normal.

The food is great, the service is fantastic, except that the dining area is small. It's not the type of place you can hop into. Make a reservation. It's 100% worth it

If you're fortunate enough, you might be able to catch a group of old Korean men following a day of drunken golf. It may get loud, but it is much better than listening to the Westerners comment on every dish that rolls out. I always enjoy watching old men hug each other while brewing a combo of 2 Hites + 3 Jinros + 3 fresh lemons in a pitcher of ice. It may feel empty when they leave for their smoke break. It may feel scary as they yell at each other violently upon returning. But they are all good, they've been friends for a while. They've been coming here longer than you have. Anyhow, come with a group of 4 and get the seng bulgogi. It is delicious and worth the 5 stars.

Delicious but you have to pay more attention to the menu than other places. i.e. the seng bulgogi is the bulgogi to get, not the regular one........ the locals get towering, massive plates full of it (2 or even 3 orders) and somehow scarf it all down. Galbi looks fatty but is friggin' delicious. Beef tongue was solid. Also, given the price, it's nice they cook for you at the table, but still a bit odd to go to kbbq and not have to do your own cooking!

Pretty empty for a Friday at 6pm, but I'll welcome no wait any day of the week! Ordered their main combo which was great! Plenty to eat for two people! The side dishes were also very good that we asked for seconds! The staff was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed the meal, the only downfall was that the main combo does not include steamed eggs and a stew like the other two meat combos. Other than that will likely go again!

Significantly overpriced for what is essentially sukiyaki. $120 for two for lunch combo - not worth it. While the "mound" of meat and veggies are visually appealing, the taste was really lackluster. Their new grate was dirty. I asked the server to exchange it, who said it was a remnant of the broth they had just poured. OK- I poured some broth out and did not leave food bits on the grill. I let it go, but I did not feel good about them not changing it out. What really pushes my rating down was the service- the staff does not care to be there, not friendly and seemingly demoralized. I asked for a to go container for my leftover banchan - and they wouldn't give me one. Really? After a $120 meal I can't bring my leftover banchan home? A bit shortsighted of their staff. They take reservations for a Saturday night, valet is easy ($2.50), and the food is very solid. Highly recommend. There are definitely other, more popular places like Soowon and Chosun and others, and I hadn't heard of this one, but I will be back! We had a party of 7, and they accommodated us with 2 grills and plenty of banchan. All in all, came out to $34/person with tax and tip (we didn't get drinks), and we were full and happy.

Epic! Best Korean BBQ I've had in a long time, lots of yummy banchan to eat with it, plus attentive staff who ensure stuff is grilled or scissored the way you need it to eat. Would highly recommend you check this place out!

I'm a new fan of this KBBQ place! They have full service here, where they will come to your table periodically to cook the meat and cut it for you. I brought my cousin and her bf here, so we were a table of 3. I picked the lunch special combo for $63, and 2 tofu soon soups. We could barely finish it all with all the sides they provided us. They even let us substitute the chicken with more brisket! I also appreciate the cleanliness, where they would change the grills to prevent the food from getting charred. Everything tasted delicious and of great quality! I'll be back again.

This was the first place I went to for outdoor dining after months and months of eating at home. We were in LA for a day and decided to grab dinner here. I feel like I wasted a precious "eat out" card. I am sorry to say I am not impressed. There are a few factors governing this impression: Parking: They have a small lot which is Valet only. I would say that's an inconvenience for some. Not everyone wants to valet. Food: The food was below average. Most of the meats were bland(even though they had mentions of some or the other marination). I am a fan of Korean BBQ and have had so many so much better ones. This was the worst I had. The server was cooking the meats for us and 60% of them turned out to be chewy and inedible. Service: The service was okay. Nothing over the top, regular restaurant experience. Pricing: I feel they were expensive for the kind and quality of food they serve. I don't mind splurging on food but even a small amount hurts when the food is not up to the mark. And the options/variety were very less for the price asked. I am glad I am not an LA resident so won't even have to think about going back to this place.

Best ban chan selection I've had and my favorite version of Doenjang-jjigae . Very hearty portions of meat.

So delicious. So so delicious. Helpful staff. Clean space and they use gas grills so you won't leave smells like smoke. When I leave I dream of coming back!

The food is amazing, which is the only reason I am not giving this place a 1 star. The service, however, was shameful and horrible. We were rudely rushed, after waiting 30 minutes to be seated. Then told that it was last call when the restaurant didn't close for an additional 45 minutes and the entire place was full of patrons. By the way, it took the server 15 minutes to even come by our table to take an order. Our food was also tossed/thrown onto the grill in a hurry. It just didn't feel right. Additionally, we were treated poorly by the staff, including one of the servers speaking badly upon me to another table in front of me. I'm disappointed that this was our experience considering that we come often. Unfortunately, they lost a loyal customer today.

Wow this place has high quality meat!! I had dinner here yesterday with my family and it was the best experience! The food was so yummy and the service was excellent! We had the brisket, pork belly, Shabu Shabu Korean style, and galbi! The side dishes were all on point!! We will be back! Thank you for the great first experience!

PARKING: Their tiny parking lot is valet only. Not sure how much it costs because we found a spot on the street (it was a bit of a struggle but if you have the time, you can find something). COVID: They have a tent set up in the parking lot (making the lot even smaller). There are heaters although not for each table. Ample distance between tables if you're concerned. FOOD: Great meal here. Ordered the 2-person combo for 59.99 and there was ample food. Everything was delicious. The meat was tasty as were all the sides. I even loved their side salad. SERVICE: The service was efficient and friendly enough. Don't expect them to fawn over you or anything. Honestly, I preferred that they (we had multiple employees serve us) weren't too talkative since they come by a lot to cook the meat so I'd rather they not interrupt my conversation constantly. They weren't too attentive as far as drinks so you have to ask. Not a huge deal.

The meat is on par with other places like soowon and park's. However asides from the meat they put too much sugar into just about every single other dish. Ever want to try a sweet tasting sugary kimchi stew? This is the place. The cold noodles are way too sweet, so are all the side dishes. More salt less sugar please

Great food. We had the bulgogi (which is pretty much what everyone was ordering) and seafood pancake. There were four of us, and we were full! It was a bit crazy and crowded on Father's Day but I would go back for sure.

Came by to try their seng bulgogi and was not disappointed. The menu said it serves 2-3 people;but, the three of us couldn't finish it. It came with a mount of lean bulgogi beef with spinach, mushrooms, and scallions. The server helped us cook the pole of delicious mixture and poured a generous amount of broth over the top. The vegetables and beef was dipped in the broth before being consumed. This was a delicious and seemingly healthier alternative to a typical bulgogi bbq.
