I normally would.give this place a good review. But I just left and the lady at counter ... Sunday evening at around 5:25. Gave me all kinds of attitude ... I asked for no salad... guess what? I got salad. I tipped a dollar ... and she wouldn't even give me a bag to carry it in.... like I couldn't afford 25 cents. My food was cold, like someone didn't pick up their order. The meat was old and dry... Just rude and unprofessional. It's fast food.. I guess it's to be expected

I love the chicken dishes here and especially love their macaroni salad! Prices are very reasonable, service is fast, and food portions are REALLY generous. 1 order is usually enough for 2 people! Order ahead by phone and get your food even quicker!!

Awesome food here and good portion too. Food tasted great. Stop by Peet’s Coffee to grab coffee, use the restroom, and wash your hands before coming to eat in here. Unless you plan grab your food to-go then no need to wash those hands. Having a restroom or at least a sink for washing hands would be great and earn five stars.

The chicken combo was great. Big portion, and great macaroni salad 😉

Cheap Hawaiian food chain. There's seating, bottled drinks, and cups for a drink fountain. The restaurant is clean-ish and there's some seating outside if you don't want to be inside. I ordered the chicken katsu plate lunch, which was $14.11 after tax. The chicken was tender, but quite greasy. There were also some massive pieces and some really tiny pieces, so not very consistent. The rice was cooked well and the blanched vegetables were nice. The macaroni salad was very filling and probably extremely unhealthy, but tasty. Overall, this is a decent place to stop by for a lunch. Everything is average-priced for San Francisco. The service and food leave a bit to be desired, which is why I'm giving four stars.

I recently visited Ono Hawaiian and, unfortunately, my experience was less than satisfactory. While the food was okay, it wasn't anything exceptional. The bigger issue was the service, which was downright terrible. The young guy and lady working there had a noticeably bad attitude, which made the dining experience quite unpleasant. It was disappointing to see such a lack of professionalism and courtesy. I hope they address these service issues soon because the restaurant has potential if only the staff were more welcoming and attentive.

Atmosphere will remind you of hawaii if you have been there, the crunchy fried chicken’s better than before the pandemic. The meal I got was the #3 Chicken combo alongside a hawaiian sun (lilikoi passion).

The food looks really good but it doesn't actually compare to any of the other Hawaiian BBQ places in SF. I got the Mixed Chicken and BBQ order and my chicken was basically all breading, the steak pieces they gave me were just super leathery and not chewable and the chicken was extremely salty. Macaroni salad had no flavor. The best thing was the rice. The interior dinning area is also falling apart.

Make sure you join email list at Ono's to get notifications of all the specials This month is the spice fish over rice with salad. For $7 it's a great deal. There is so much food that I share one order with my husband and we are stiffed. You can only get one order per person. And the spice is just a tad spicy - more of a Cajun spice. For $7.60 I am not complaining. Make sure to ask for extra salad dressing. And when you're waiting for order, help yourself to some tempura sauce to pour over your white rice. We will be back before the special is Over.

Surprised that this place gets such a low rating. I really enjoyed the few meals I got here. All delicious! Especially like the macaroni salad. I also enjoyed the crab Rangoon. Location is a bit far from us but when we do visit, we all like their food.

The Hawaiian BBQ here is good . I enjoyed the BBQ Chicken and Beef along with the macaroni salad. A good solid place to get Hawaiian BBQ.

I ordered a mini chicken katsu, a chicken katsu dinner plate, and a combo plate. The food came out fast and the staff was prompt. The katsu chicken was crunchy and juicy but my favorite part was the macaroni salad. I love the katsu sauce which tastes similar to a tangy barbecue sauce.

This place is the bomb! It's addictive for sure. It's my go to on short notice and the portions are great. Get the Beef and Chicken combo with rice and Macaroni salad. The bomb!

Not what it used to be. Fire chicken va very salty and tasted weird, like the chicken was about spoiled and they tried to cover up with different spices or herbs.

Can't resist a deal of buy one get one free, spicy curry chicken with 2 scoop of rice and 1 scoop macaroni. Lots of spicy onions. Good portion of chicken on a bed of cabbage. You order on their app and use the special code and pick up. Easy peasy. Or order it at the counter. Service was great. Good till 4/30.

Ono Hawaiian consistently delivers an authentic Hawaiian barbecue experience that keeps me coming back for more. While the service is fast, it's the delicious and fresh food that truly steals the show. With each visit, I'm greeted with mouthwatering dishes that never disappoint. While the focus may not be on exceptional service, the consistently high-quality and flavorful food more than makes up for it.

Ono Hawaiian BBQ is my go-to place for Hawaiian food in the SF Sunset/Lakeshore neighborhood. Whenever I have a rough or busy day, I know I can count on Ono's to lift my spirits with a scrumptious combo plate. I have ordered take out from here roughly once every 1-2 months for the past 3-5 years and I will never get tired of it. Calling in the order is easy, and recently I've started using the application to pre-order pickup at a specific pickup time. It's just simply: good and reliable Hawaiian food. I have never had a misplaced order, or an incorrectly filled order. If we're honest, it's not gonna beat your local Oahu/Maui restaurant, but that's a given. If you sign up for email notifications, they usually always have some sort of "Free $10 Bonus Card when you buy $40 or more in gift cards" promotion. Although you can't redeem the bonus card until the time period stated, if you're a frequent visitor like me, purchasing these cards every time is a good investment for future visits. Of course there has been a price increase throughout the years (entrees are ~$14 now) but that is expected with inflation and cost of living. I'll still pay for good food!

They need LOCO MOCO on the menu! Fried Saimin! All Hawaiian yummy! For now our go to is Kalua pork, Musubi and chicken katsu!

We always order the family take out option with multiple entrees. There is something for everyone except the vegetarian in our family. He does not eat fish so his options is limited to sides. Our family of four gets two dinners out of one purchase so an excellent value.

Was out shopping all day with the husband. Needed to get lunch and we were in the Sloat Boulevard area. We love Hawaiian barbecue so we tried this place. The food came out quick and it was awesome. The chicken was flavorful and juicy, the rice, warm cabbage leaves and macaroni salad beyond perfect. Highly recommend this place and the people working there were so nice.

My family loves going here when we need to get food quickly! I highly recommend their chicken katsu because the chicken is super tender and juicy! Both myself and my kid love this item! The order is a good sized portion and so I usually share the plate with my kid. Under the chicken is steamed cabbage and broccoli and the it also comes with steamed white rice and Mac salad. They're Mac salad is pretty decent too. Oh and don't forget their sauces! I love their dipping sauce for the katsu and the teriyaki sauce for the steamed veggies! Their crab rangoon is tasty and if you've had it before it's exactly what you expect it to taste like. Their spam musubi is super expensive for what it is and if you know how to make it do that instead of buying it. They don't put a lot of rice in it and the price has just gone up so much! If you do not know how to look it up! It's worth it! The other meats that they offer are decent but nothing really stands out and if you want kalbi be prepared to pay more for not that much more meat. Tip: either place your order online or call in your order for faster service!!!!

Ono Hawaiian BBQ is a popular haunt of students from Lowell High School (including myself), offering Hawaiian-inspired plate lunches at student-friendly prices. Eating here again was a nostalgic experience, and I remember ordering the Lemon Pepper Grilled Chicken Breast when it was a new item on the menu. Even after all these years, the juicy sliced chicken tasted exactly the same and was nicely seasoned with simple lemon pepper. I also had the Melemele Curry Chicken, made of thinly-sliced chicken breast marinaded in a yellow curry spice mixture. While this entree wasn't as good as the lemon pepper chicken, the grilled pieces were nicely caramelized and had tasty crispy edges. The mini meals here were a great value and came with a scoop of rice; a scoop of creamy mac salad; and boiled cabbage, broccoli, and sliced onions. The (surprisingly good) boiled vegetables had a subtle sweetness and crunch, and at the counter were condiments including teriyaki sauce, katsu sauce, and sriracha to liven up the flavors even more. Overall, this staple of Lakeshore Plaza is still a reliable place for a tasty meal at a great value, and the service was quick and friendly too.

Food is pretty good but phone orders are a nightmare and service routinely is terrible.

Got my flu shot at the doctor's office then Hawaiian time... but no poi for me. Line was short, but the wait for food was a bit long. Got 2 growing boys at home so got the 3 entree family meal.... comes with rice and macaroni salad. The chicken katsu is good, but you got to eat it while its fresh and hot... warming it up does not do not do it justice... use an air fryer, but it will dry it out. The chicken teriyaki was a bit on the dry side (don't forget to get the self serve teriyaki sauce from the dispenser). The winning dish is the BBQ Beef... yummy. Tender and goes well with the rice. But more veggies is needed. Stay away from the mac salad... the flavor is just wrong... the flavor is a bit like warm plastic... add a couple of packs of the Chinese hot mustard to hide the taste.

The island fire chicken is my favorite thing ever!!! Macaroni salad is definitely made fresh everyday because no store bought is close. The employees are nice and the restaurant is lovely. I love the self serve option of the sauces.

What can I say...I love Ono! Yes, it's a chain, but it's certainly one of the healthier chains if you order the stuff that's not fried. I always get either the Hawaiian BBQ chicken or the beef. Today I ordered online and swung by at my scheduled time and picked up my order with just a little wait. I was late, so it was sitting on the counter waiting for me. I love that you can skip the rice and get extra veggies, even when you order online. I usually get one scoop of mac salad lots of the cabbage with broccoli. I like to have brown rice, so I usually have cooked rice at home already. I got lots of yummy grilled chicken on top of a huge bed of cabbage; the scoop of mac salad was in one of the divided sections. This one order was enough to feed both me and my husband at lunch with leftovers for another meal. To boot, I used a complimentary $10 gift card I had gotten during the holidays when I purchased a $30 gift card... what a deal!!

I like this spot. Their kalua pork is tasty. The BBQ beef is also good. Will return for sure.

I like the food here. Nothing special but filled a need for years. Calling in a few weeks ago for a combo have done for years. Would not do it. I hung up. Came in again today. They have both items in combos but refuse to simply swap a component. I offered to pay more. Nope. Elevated to manager. Still no. Walked out. Just give the customer what they want. Totally don't understand.

Ordered delivery through Doordash and it was great. Chicken katsu was very crispy until you got the bottom which was a little soggy from being on top of the vegetables. Good enough but could have been packaged better.

Ordered trays for a big party and everyone was full and happy! Ordering was easy and they helped load up the car too.

We ordered a family pack and specifically asked for no veggies just rice as the "veggies" are just pieces of cabbage. Well, when we got home we found an order we didn't request. :( We also noticed that our request wasn't noted on the ticket. They messed up our dinner. Guess we won't be returning there.

Open during Covid-19 but the lame thing is they charge 10 cents per bag. Got their seafood mix for my roommate and the kali short ribs for myself. Extra 25 cents upcharge for the green salad instead of macaroni. The food is average, nothing to jump for joy over. I felt the bbq short ribs portion was small and the seafood fry needs to be fried a little longer to be more crunchy and hotter inside.

Food is always fresh and perfect when you are in a rush. Better than most other Hawaiian places in SF.

Not sure why the ratings of this place is down to 3 stars now, it really isn't all that bad, just gotta set your expectations! No one is coming here for fine dining. It's a casual spot which does chicken and mac salad pretty well, and all in great big portions (1 plate is enough for 2 for lunch) Went in for some takeout, got 1 chicken combo (grilled chicken & chicken katsu, 2 scoops of rice 1 scoop of mac salad, 1 bed of boiled veg - cabbage and broccoli) 1 white fish plate (4 pieces of fried fish fillets, 2 scoop rice, 1 scoop mac salad, 1 bed of boiled veg) as well as 1 side order of the kalbi rib. All the food was good for a casual to-go lunch on my books. Grilled chicken and chicken katsu was nice, kalbi beef short rib was also good (however the side order for only 1 piece was almost 5 dollars, which is pretty $$ for that..) Order came quick and the staff actively checked on the receipts numbers for food collection.

I'm glad they're open during COVID-19 shelter in place. I went here on a Monday around 3pm and there was a long wait. There were only about 5 other people ahead of me, but it took awhile since we all had to wait in line outside before coming into this restaurant to order. I ordered the BBQ & Katsu Mix which is #44 on the menu here. The food was very good and still felt like it was freshly made. The katsu wasn't too tough, like how other places make it and the bbq meat felt tender too. The only thing I didn't like about this order is that they don't give a good portion of rice and macaroni salad for the amount of meat they give you. Also, back to when I was waiting for my order along with everyone else, I noticed they call out numbers out of order. Like someone who ordered minutes after me got their order a lot earlier than me. I ended up waiting outside for ~20 minutes until my order was ready to be picked up. Everyone in line got confused with me, since they were originally calling out numbers in order, but then suddenly skipped a few. I'd recommend this place! Yeah the wait in line to order was long that day and yeah the wait for the food to be ready also took awhile, BUT the food is very good here! Usually the wait isn't that bad when I go here on a normal day.

I really hate giving businesses 1 star but this place deserves it for their horrible service. I've given this place many chances and my last visit was the last straw. Came for their $5 lunch special. They ran out of the mahi mahi special and only had the fried white fish which doesn't come with the macaroni salad. I figured it didn't hurt to ask if they could give the macaroni salad with the fried white fish instead and I didn't expect them to say yes. Not only did the waitress say no but she scoffed and rolled her eyes. WOW alright. Got my order in about 5 mins and asked if I could get Teriyaki sauce with it. The girl at the register give me attitude again! I don't feel like I'm asking a lot especially since the sauce is normally free and self serve. Her name started with an X. Either way, service here is consistently been terrible. Won't ever be supporting this location ever again. Rather drive to Daly City and get my food there instead.

I try not to sprinkle too much love to the chains, but Ono has saved me on weeknight dinners one too many a times not to give 'em a shoutout. Call in and it'll be ready in 15-20 mins. The damage is easy here: - 4 orders of spam musubi cut in half (because I have kids who will gobble this up way too fast, if I don't cut it) Family meal with 3 meats: -Chicken katsu - BBQ chicken - Kalua Pork - Fried island white fish * recent addition to the usual order - Hawaiian suns: Lilikaoi and Guava If you're not feeding the whole fam, grab a chicken combo (katsu and grbbq chicken and you'll be good! The family meals come with 6 scoops of rice, a bed of cabbage and broccoli underneath the meats, and Mac salad! You can sub the Mac salad for a mixed greens salad that has this delicious miso dressing. You can even sub the rice for Mac salad! The rice here is sooo good though, so don't get rid of all of it. Is it sushi rice? Mmm sushi rice. The portions are generous and the bill for a meal of 6 usually gets you in the 80s, with leftovers for lunch the next day. Pro tip: Eat allllll that katsu and musubi now. It just doesn't taste as good the next day. However, that bbq chicken is great as leftovers for chicken quesadillas. Alright, real quick, before we turn this into a Pinterest.. just chop it up, add cheese and throw it in a warm tortilla...Lunch for the kids is done! They stopped letting people get their own sauces, so make sure to ask for the katsu and the bbq sauce before leaving. They'll throw in a few in your bag with the order, but if you need more, don't be shy! The staff here are also really nice. Not overly nice like a fancy restaurant, but super nice like they know Wednesday night has failed you and you need your 3 to go bags and Hawaiian suns, pronto! You still have to sign your receipt (which feels totally old school during the pandemic days), but everything is safe here. Plexiglass, sanitizer, masks...the works!

The staff is horrible, there was one big Asian guy and a a short Latino guy talking shit and laughing about my son, while my son was ordering his food, my son is a large guy, he asked for his money back and told them that what the hell why would he order food from a place that is making fun of the customers. Clearly the manager heard because she was sitting near stuffing her face with food and didn't even say a word. Horrible customer service!!!

Got the seafood mix. Quick service and food was tasty. My plate came with two portions of fish. Unfortunately one of my pieces of fish was undercooked and pink in the middle. I ordered to go so I didn't see the fish until I got home. They need better consistency.

We got the chicken katsu and chicken combo plates and the beef plate for takeout. It was perfect. It came to about $70 but that's fine = inflation. The food was delicious. Portions for the chicken combo were quite big. The restaurant loads you up with sauces in the bag which I didn't expect but we had quite a bit since I got extra teriyaki and katsu sauce on my own. It was ready when we got there. This place is great for takeout. Never had a bad experience.

My favorite go-to Hawaiian fast food BBQ place. They are friendly, consistent , economical and delicious! Their restaurants are clean, efficiently , spacious and inviting (music, decor)! We always end up going for the chicken katsu or Hawaiian BBQ mix (beef, short rib and katsu). We love that their meals come with veggies in addition to rice and Mac salad. You can also sub one side for others (all Mac, all rice, all veggies, etc) Sign up for their emails to receive monthly coupons! Order Over the phone for in store pickup to avoid those long lines.

Worse service I've ever had at a Hawaii place. Everyone comes in orders and gets there food in less then 5 minutes, but if you have got a toddler with you stay away! Very very away. We waited so long for food 30 minutes. Then I asked for a refund with no food. The lady told me no...... wait so to recap I'm waiting we'll over 30 mins for no food and no refund and not even an apology. THIS PLACE IS NOT KID FRIENDLY. Needless to say I left empty handed. Will not be returning to this place until they learn some customer service skills.

Ono Hawaiian BBQ is a reliable place for quick grab-and-go Hawaiian food/teriyaki. While Ono Hawaiian BBQ is not necessarily the best or the one with the biggest portions, it's been of consistent quality. Furthermore, you can follow their Facebook page or Instagram for occasional coupons and deals (like a $5 bbq chicken plate). The Hawaiian BBQ mixed plate is my go to plate to get a little bit of everything - BBQ chicken, BBQ beef, and kalbi short ribs. I've also tried the island white fish plate, which uses breaded white fish and was pretty tasty. It's a good alternative if you don't want red meat. The Hawaiian BBQ chicken plate is a standard chicken option and also one of their cheapest. Definitely look for online specials to get one of these for $5 a plate. They offer other smaller items like musubi and macaroni salad, but I've always stuck with their plated options.

Convenient to-go Hawaiian food is the name of the game at Ono Hawaiian BBQ which is located in the Lakeshore Plaza not too far from Lake Merced and the tony golf courses that make up the Park Merced neighborhood that is nearby. This Ono Hawaiian BBQ is one of at least ten that are franchised in the San Francisco Bay Area and I have to say this location is not only one of the most conventionality located with plenty of onsite parking but also one of the most cleanest and modern locations around. We happened to come after a day of outdoor activities and we're planning on returning to a family members home for dinner when one of my dining mates claimed to have a hankering for really Hawaiian cuisine, as they attended school on the East Coast and quite frankly there wasn't anything like Ono or any other type of Hawaiian fast casual franchise where they currently lived. Must be a West Coast kind of thing. When we arrived at this location, it wasn't too busy since it was about 4 p.m. and we were ready to order a fixed meal to go to eat later on. The one menu item that was calling our name was their Family Meal, which for forty dollars, consisted of steamed white rice, macaroni salad, and steamed veggies, plus three protein choices. We opted to select BBQ Beef, Teriyaki Chicken and Island White Fish. In their words it was a hearty meal for 4 people. The ordering process was safe and easy and we had plenty of space and warm sunshine as we waited outside in a covered patio area as they prepared our meal and listened for our receipt number to be called. In no time our meal was ready and they even gave us extra sauces on top of the other teriyaki sauces that already came with our to-go meal with napkins and plastic utensils in our handy plastic bag. When we got home, since it was so early, we decided not to eat quite yet but thankfully our meal was ready to be reheated whenever we were ready to feast on our family meal. The best thing about the family meal was the abundance of food that came with our order. From extra steamed white rice to the veggies, which were basically a few broccoli florets and plenty of cabbage, and since we ordered fish, four medium sized deep fried fish filets, plus all the chicken and beef we could eat, which honestly was so much food, we didn't even finish it all. There is no question that I would return to Ono Hawaiian BBQ for family style meal that I experienced on this evening. With one meal, it has quickly become my favorite Hawaiian fast casual destination, and there are a lot of competitors in the San Francisco Bay Area to experience and enjoy. Where else in this rather pricey city can you get a meal for less than 43 dollars, including tax, for four, plus leftover food. Not many places, especially with cuisine as uniquely as Hawaiian. Mahalo indeed.

Another day, another Hawaiian bbq spot I called an order in and came over to pick up. Parking was a bit of a pain. Whoever designed the parking lot should quit their job and become a government worker. Inadequate and unnecessary. Service was fast, food was cooked good to order and I left without much issue. Condiments and soda machine are to the side of the register and the highlight of the shack. Prices are a bit high but when you get down to brass tax, it could be way worse. This spot specializes in LUNCH. There is seating to dine in but it gets crowded quickly. This review can probably be copy and pasted to most Hawaiian bbq spots as they pretty much all carry the same menu items.

I regularly go here. that is always a solid compliment with a rare night out, when I want a healthier fast food choice, Ono is an regular competition in the family fight for food choice. it pretty often wins. It is really tasty chicken that is grilled after having been marinated which gives it that thicker deeper Rich taste they are chicken thighs which make it a little on me not so healthy side but I choose to go with their protein salad always a win in my book it's a solid go-to for a healthier and deeply tasting lunch and or too tired dinner for the family

The food here is a pretty good deal for San Francisco pricing. One menu entree usually lasts me 2 meals. If you order delivery, they package everything up really nicely. I even got sauce packets, utensils, and napkins neatly wrapped in a plastic bag. It doesn't seem like much but other spots never give any napkins or utensils and always forget the sauce. The food is filling and decent quality. Been going here for the last 10-15 years (has it been that long??) and it'll continue to be a guilty pleasure of mine!

I appreciate management taking my complaint seriously. I was able to cash out all of my Onos gift cards, and will be paying with cash or credit moving forward whenever my kid craves a katsu plate.

We love this place, have been going for years. My younger daughter loves their Spam Masubi and my oldest loves their Mac Salad. My husband loves everything there! They always have great service, ample parking, and easy pick up! Perfect for to-go orders!

Tried the Chicken Katsu, Galbi special, and spam musubi. Each lunch plate had steamed vegetables, two scoops of white rice, and macaroni salad. Chicken Katsu was my favorite, it was crispy and crunchy. They give you 2 containers of sauce (sweet and tangy). Galbi had 3 long pieces but one of them was really fatty. Spam musubi didn't have a lot of sauce and the rice seasoned.
