If you happen to be in the downtown Cincinnati area and craving some authentic and SUPER DELICIOUS Hawaiian food, this is the place to be!
When planning my recent business trip to Ohio, I noticed this listing on Google maps and said to myself, "Self, this is the absolute LAST place I would expect to find Hawaiian food, but low and behold, there it is!" So after a few days, I quickly concluded my business and decided to hit the restaurant for Sunday brunch at 11am in 40 degree, slightly overcast drizzly conditions, or as the locals call it "a typical December day". The interior felt typical, but in the way you would expect to see a cozy little spot tucked away in Honolulu (minus the cold weather of course). I felt a bit hungry and was mentally preparing for this meal, so I went ahead and ordered everything from the brunch menu.
Needless to say, my body was not ready.
The first item to arrive was the matcha waffle with some crazy good syrup, paired with a pineapple iced tea, was an amazing start!
However, before I got a quarter of the way through the waffle, a heaping bowl of tater tots topped with fried egg and adobo chicken (I think) arrived and the Loco Moco plate very shortly after that. Long story short, I tapped out after 30 minutes, utterly defeated but savoring every bite along the way. The chef also threw in a small order of fried Haupia because I either tried really hard, or he just felt sorry for me. If only humans had four stomachs, I would have tried more on this jam packed menu!
This experience is absolutely what I missed when there was a local mom and pop Hawaiian grinds place near me in Orlando. Sending good vibes to Onolicious Grinds wishing much success and hopes for the future. (and possible expansion into Central Florida??)
Thanks
