"Serving sushi from late morning to late evening, this place presents a madcap facade to the world via its genre-bending menu. The Long Island City maki roll, for example, uses three kinds of conjoined fish in its outer layer, and there’s a deconstructed chirashi that lets you make your own sushi. For the less adventuresome, the regular sushi assortment is $26, with sushis for two aimed at dating couples for $60 and $80, containing profuse amounts of fish." - Robert Sietsema

Just visited this place and I had a nice time. The ambiance is warm and inviting, creating the perfect setting for enjoying delicious Japanese cuisine. From the sushi to the tempura, every dish was good. The staff were attentive and friendly, making the whole experience even better.

Google
these pictures dont do justice to how good the food is here. the katsu was cooked perfectly, the spicy miso pork ramen was rich but not salty (egg was PERFECT), & the sushi? sooo good. highly recommend!!

Google
This place is the ONLY place to dine in LIC if you are looking for good sushi. I don’t leave many reviews but these people DESERVE IT!

Google
First off, amazing atmosphere. Tables are equipped with a lamp and resembles them of michelin star restaurants. Chairs are extremely comfortable and service is nice and polite and quiet people. The sushi was delicious and it was spicy. Very flavourfil

Delicious! The rolls are nicely sized and filling. The fish is fresh. My personal faves are the 2019 roll and the eggplant sandwich. Definitely a must try in the LIC neighborhood

Google
Ooi sushi is one of our favorite sushi spots. This place is a hidden gem! We are lucky enough to live close by to get it as delivery too. Their fishes are so fresh and well prepared. They have an amazing happy hour deal with food and drinks all week long: M-F 4-7pm and weekends 12-4. My go-to is their sushi deluxe, where you get 9 nigiris and a tuna roll.

My fav sushi in LIC!! Really fresh and delicious sushi, lots of options, and very good miso soup as well. Great staff and great service. Lovely atmosphere as well!

Google
If you are looking for a new experience with sushi I recommend this place, the truth is I was looking forward to it. The quality and price of the food is reasonable. It has different options in case you not only want to eat sushi, it also has ramen and fried rice options. In my case we ordered sushi among the options were “California roll, Alaska roll, spider roll, shrimp tempura and Boston” these options were enough for 2 people. They also offer you original Japanese drinks which I found very interesting since you don't find them everywhere. The service and atmosphere is comfortable.

Yelp
Food was delicious! Love the presentation and everything tasted great. The chirashi is a good deal. Service was quick too.

Constance L.

Yelp
Friendly and efficient service, extensive menu to fit many tastes and preferences, and of course, solid sushi! The agedashi tofu was great -- silky interior with a slightly crispy exterior, and served still piping hot. Our other two rolls were elaborate and filled with super tasty raw and cooked fish. I was impressed at the size of the rolls as well as the freshness of all the fish used!

Yelp
Decently priced lunch special with chirashi, sashimi, and 3 rolls under $20 on weekdays before 3. There's a ton of space for large or smaller parties, and the playlist is composed of great covers of good songs from the past. My party of 3 all got the 3 roll lunch special for $17 which comes with a soup AND salad. The miso soup had enoki mushrooms which was a pleasant surprise! I got the eel avocado, salmon avocado, and yellowtail. The salmon avocado and yellowtail were good but the eel had a weird smell unfortunately. My friends shrimp tempura and Boston roll were notably really big! We were able to stay and catch-up and the servers didn't have any issues and even refilled our waters. I'd come back for the lunch special.

Yelp
Really good quality fish for a hard to beat pricepoint. The $30 sushi deluxe (9pc nigiri + 6pc roll) was even better than in the menu pictures. Fish was also super fresh, though probably not comparable to a dedicated omakase spot. Still, at $30, this pricepoint for quality and quantity is just too good. We also ordered 2 rolls, the 2019 roll and Rock n' roll roll. Both were solid, though 2019 roll was our favorite by far, simply so fresh and juicy. Honestly all the food came out looking better than their menu depictions, which was such a lovely surprise. Drinks are also very reasonable, we got the plum sake and warm sake. Staff were super attentive without being overbearing, and interior was quite spacious, clean, and modern. Definitely will return.

Yelp
Goated sushi place with soooooooooo many options LOL. The place is huge so we were seated right away, and all the food came out SO quickly too. They have happy hour until 7pm on weekdays, and when we ordered gyoza the lady automatically applied the happy hour deal without us asking. I need to come back to try their sushi pizza and other interesting-sounding apps.

Becky C.

Yelp
We ordered delivery from here and the rolls were so yummy. The fish tasted pretty good and the rolls weren't packed with too much rice. Food was made and delivered in a timely manner and packed nicely. Will definitely try again. The roll we got was the Godzilla roll and then some spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and nigiri. Miso soup was pretty good too.

Justin M.

Yelp
A hidden gem in LIC! Walked past this place many times before coming to try on a Sunday evening - absolutely amazing! It is so affordable (lunch deals look crazy too), cozy, and the food is really really good with huge portions. Food comes out so quickly and the servers are really friendly as well. Must visit!! FOOD: Sushi Deluxe (8/10): Really good set of nigiri and a nice roll to accompany it. For the price, you really can't beat it! Rock N Roll (7/10): Fish was fresh, but didn't taste too much in the roll itself. Will still say it's really good as the portions are huge 2019 Roll (8/10): Again, huge portions of fish. This was super tasty too!!

Liz K.

Yelp
Hands down my favorite happy hour spot in LIC. The tempura sweet potato maki is SO good, the beer is cheap, and the ambiance is serene. Service is always excellent and seating is both comfy and plentiful.

Amanda L.

Yelp
I ordered takeout from Ooi Sushi & Bar on a Sunday, and everything was fantastic! The food was well-packed, and it arrived still warm, which is always a good sign. We tried a variety of dishes, including the Seaweed Salad, Shrimp Spring Roll, Spicy Salmon Roll, Chicken Fried Rice, Chicken Teriyaki, Yaki Soba, and the Tiffany Roll. Every dish was absolutely delicious, with fresh ingredients and great flavors. No complaints whatsoever--definitely will be ordering again! Highly recommend Ooi for a satisfying and reliable meal.

Camo H.

Yelp
The food has lots of variety and flavor. Really enjoyed the drinks. The service was quick and kind. The ambiance of the restaurant is very calm and soothing. Great for a delightful dinner and conversation.

Yelp
I actually like this spot. I was in the area at wedding and that food was....well this isn't a review for the venues less than stellar food. So I stepped out to just grab some air and walked past this place. I also needed to use the restroom, so that's why I was here. So the bathroom, clean and great. So I felt pressured to purchase something, and I am glad I did. This was one of the best spicy tuna rolls that I have had in a while. Like, I live in Philadelphia, but I feel like it's not out of a possibility for me to schedule a meeting in the area with pure intentions to have lunch here again. The service was quick and no one seemed to miss me when I got back to the reception. Didn't know I had left. I guess I'm forgettable.

Jaemin L.

Yelp
I love coming here in the regular In LIC it's the most reliable and solid American sushi spot It's not super traditional, but they have great rolls. I really do love this place! Highly recommend if you want something easy, spacious, reliable, tasty.

Yelp
*4.5/5 Saw this on the Yelp Top 100 sushi list & while I was skeptical of the methodology, if #100 is in my own backyard, no real sweat off my back if I give it a try. Glad I did, bc Ooi has a cute happy hour deal that only set us back $75(?) after 3 drinks, 4 rolls of sushi, an app, tax, and tip. Not bad for sushi & certainly not bad for Long Island City. Space: Ample-sized restaurant despite its small storefront. It's cleanly decorated w nice bathrooms and soft lighting. There's a bar and an assortment of tables. Service: Friendly! Food: Super solid fare -- happy hour on a Friday lasted til 7pm which is convenient for a working gal. The takoyaki was a delicious palate-opener, chewy and flavorful and creamy inside. We ordered 4 rolls: spicy salmon, Godzilla, Tokyo, and California. I was impressed by how crispy the spicy salmon and Godzilla rolls were (my two fave of the night) -- texture lovers rejoice. This was also the first time I've had a California roll in a decade, since I was under the false impression that California rolls have cream cheese. It was not bad for $5. Drinks: $8 happy hour cocktails woohoo! We ordered a mint julep, tequila sunrise, and a bellini. I did not enjoy the julep (tasted like straight-up brown alc) or the bellini (tacky sweet). Sunrise was a nice blend of alc and OJ. Next time I'm getting a lychee martini. Good date spot that'll save you a few bucks. Would def return.

Yelp
Excellent service. Excellent drinks. Excellent ambiance. Excellent food. I loved the food and the vibes.

Yelp
Okay food, good service, good ambiance Stumbled upon Ooi Sushi and Bar for a quick lunch with some friends and we were the only people in the restaurant. The food came out pretty quick but I noticed the sashimi quality was just okay and the rice didn't have the best texture as it was quite mushy. Everything came out just okay.

ReviewFanatic F.

Yelp
I actually like this place a lot. It has plenty of seating inside and the staff is very attentive. I've never had an issue. The food is really good too. I have my favorites and they always deliver. The only thing is the sign outside because some people may walk by and not realize it's a Japanese restaurant inside. I would highly recommend you check this place out.

Denise G.

Yelp
Had a great time at Ooi Sushi and Bar. They currently offer great happy hour specials. The ambiance is very nice. The service is good! The waitstaff is very polite and attentive. Delicious and fresh sushi! Highly recommend if you're in LIC!

Anthony R.

Yelp
I probably come here at least once a month to get some good rolls. It's my go-to spot for sushi in LIC. This time, I got the Fantasy roll and the 2019 roll. I get the 2019 roll often as it includes a variety of fresh fish - it is filling, juicy, and saucy. The fantasy roll is more of a comfort food for me since when I was younger, I would only eat crunchy rolls. These are 2 different rolls that complement each other well and it was plated very uniquely - I think the cooks were just having fun. As long as I am a 5 minute walk to Ooi, I will continue to pop in!

Amy L.

Yelp
Solid place to eat sushi. There is a lunch special where you can get 3 rolls and miso soup/salad starter. It was great! The service is good and they are attentive at refilling your water. The interior is spacious and a relaxing place to eat. No complaints but nothing that overly stands out.

Masaraat A.

Yelp
if you're considering the crispy rice with spicy tuna vs. double sweet, get the double sweet! essentially the same dish, but double the portion for $3 more the sushi for 2 combo is very fresh, beautifully presented, the rolls it comes with are great as well. the salmon is very buttery and smooth polite service, quick but not pushy

Andre C.

Yelp
Excellent Japanese restaurant. Top quality sushi, excellent ramen. Pleasant ambiance - not crowded. Restaurant attracts a nice crowd of Asian yuppies from LIC. Good service, very nice decor

Vishnu G.

Yelp
The lunch special is a fantastic deal - $17 for three sushi rolls, miso soup, and salad. The salad had a nice and bright ginger dressing, and the soup was warm and savory. I had the sweet potato, peanut avocado, and shiitake rolls. The sweet potato roll was crunchy from the tempura batter. The peanut avocado roll was creamy with nice textural variation. And the shiitake roll was cool and savory. I liked the variety of simple vegetarian options.

India I.

Yelp
Everything here is great. You have to try the sweetheart roll. It's very good. The spring was also very good. They have a great happy hour. Check it out. Great service ! And great ambiance for a date or after work meal

Ramya B.

Yelp
Love the food, service, and ambiance of this restaurant. Have visited frequently for happy hour and every time their food does not disappoint. Our favorites are the sweet potato roll, spring rolls, spicy salmon roll, and the banana tempura dessert - although you really can't go wrong with anything on their menu!

Katie P.

Yelp
I'm more or less a regular! Been here multiple times and each time had been a good experience. The vibe is nice and relaxing and the waiters/waitresses are always ready to help you. One time we had some complaints and they immediately exchanged the food for us. The sushi's are good and the dinner bento is a pretty good deal. Fast with the food too. Garlic softshell crab is also very good

Binsen L.

Yelp
Today I have nothing to eat. I am very tired. And I came here with my wife. We are not disappointed. The service is good. And the music is nice. Good food great taste

Wendy L.

Yelp
Love this place for their lunch special and drinks. Love the sea monster roll-- a whole squid wrapped around Kano salad YUM. Service is great too, food came out fast! Go to sushi spot!

JiHae L.

Yelp
What a great sushi spot. They have happy hour from Monday through Friday, 4 - 7 pm. Saturday through Sunday, noon - 3 pm. Great prices and deals for both alcohol and food appetizers and rolls. There's even a deal for their two years celebration. If you check in, there's a way to get 10% off even though they told us it is expired now. Really great deals! Service wise, it needs improvement. They didn't bring us water until the third time of saying we wanted it. One table setting wasn't even brought to us, so my friend went to get it herself at an empty table. There is much room for improvement. For alcohol, I got the mint julep, but it was a tad bit strong. I went with a group and got a bunch of food items such as rock shrimp tempura app, volcano roll, and godzilla roll. All were average. For my entree, I got the seafood ramen, which could use a little more seasoning. I did add it in myself with some hot sauce. All in all, I'm not sure if I would go back.

Patrick K.

Yelp
We were looking for a sushi spot in LIC and based on reviews thought we give this spot a try on a Friday night. We shared a few rolls and all rolls were ice cold and the sushi rice tasted old. The service was slow and just ok. I wouldn't come back here again.

Jenny Y.

Yelp
Came by to grab some dinner with a friend on a weekday! We were seated right away. We came just in time for their happy hour, which was from 4-7pm, and the deals were amazing! I ordered the salmon avocado and the spicy salmon. Both tasted fresh and well made! The staff were also attentive and friendly. The space is a great spot to catch up with friends and I definitely would recommend coming here, especially during happy hour!

Dorayaki E.

Yelp
Yukkkkkksss just chinese ordinary sushi and expensive. Not again. Pls don't come in again. And the boss crazy. If someone didn't give tips. I saw he wrote it by it selfb

Nhi N.

Yelp
Coming here for enjoying cooked sushi during pregnancy! All of them are unique and yummy

Matthew H.

Yelp
I came in for the lunch specials and ordered the sushi lunch, which came with 5 nigiri (which they just call "sushi") and 1 California roll. I asked for the nigiri to directly add the wasabi in between the fish and the rice (which is a fairly common and more traditional way of eating it for more balanced flavour in each piece). They were able to accommodate it, but the amount of wasabi on each piece was truly unparalleled. I had to scrape off at least two-thirds of the wasabi on each piece before I could eat it without tearing up. I'm not sure if this was not a preparation that the chefs were familiar with, which was a bit concerning. The California roll was fine, although I found the ingredients' proportions to be a bit strange (comparatively quite a bit of cucumber) so the flavour profile/texture was a bit unusual. Still, the fish was very delicious and the nigiris were definitely a strong point (exorbitant amounts of wasabi excepted). It might be worthwhile to come back and try something else but it's not a high priority for me.

Yelp
Ever in the mood for good quality sushi without the NYC prices, then Ooi Sushi is your spot. Tucked away in a quiet street right by the 7 train, you'll find this little sushi shop. If you're not looking, you'll likely miss the store, as their outside is quite modest. The restaurant is dimly lit and nit too loud so it's perfect for having dates here. Every time I've stopped by, I had no issues grabbing a table, at most I would wait 5 minutes. The staff is very attentive and always on the lookout. So it has always been a very enjoyable time here with the service and food. Food wise, their menu is quite extensive and has sushi staples as well Ooi specials such as their deep fried eggplant sandwich (5/5). The crispy eggplant topped with lobster and salmon is nothing Ive ever had before. Their salmon skin salad (3/5) was also so refreshing and the salmon skin was very crispy. The sauce was super salty but other than that it was worth the try. Their omakase set (5/5) was one of the best pieces if sushi Ive had m. Their sweet shrimp and scallop pieces were the most memorable, super sweet and nice chew to the fish. Overall, I highly recommend this sushi spot. The space is perfect for dates or dinners with friends. Food is always fresh and hits the spot.

Michelle C.

Yelp
What a lovely sushi experience I had. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted and walked over to an empty table. They have a large bar and the restaurant is very nicely decorated. I ordered a lychee martini which was quite tasty and strong; was just a bit disappointed it didn't have the actual lychee fruit. As a appetizer, we ordered a yellow tail jalapeño sashimi. The sashimi was served nicely and was very fresh. We also ordered the Godzilla roll and a varied order of sashimi which included salmon, tuna and other delicious fish. The rolls were spectacular and very fresh. The varied sashimi was a delight. The server was very friendly and attentive and came to check in on us very often. I will love to return to try other delicious items from their menu.

Amara R.

Yelp
Ooi Sushi has been a welcome addition to Long Island City. After passing by on a walk, I decided to take a chance on them over my usual lunch sushi spot. I was not disappointed. On my first try, I went with the 2 rolls, miso soup, and salad option. Yesterday I had the sashimi bento box. For $17, I had a California roll, a salad, two mini vegetable spring rolls, rice, miso soup, and 10 pieces of sashimi. The quality of the fish was amazing. Very fresh and expertly cut. I left full and satisfied. My coworkers and I are planning to return soon for their happy hour specials. If I lived in this area, I'd definitely make Ooi my go to sushi spot. There's plenty of space, a bar up front, and the staff is attentive.

Christie S.

Yelp
Came here with my boyfriend for dinner. We got a takoyaki to share, and for the entree, I got the salmon don and my boyfriend got the spicy maki roll combo. They were really accommodating and let us changed the spicy yellowtail to another spicy salmon in the combo! The food came really quick after we ordered! The takoyaiki was very tasty and they were bigger than what I normally have! The salmon don was a little different than what I thought it would look like but it looked really cute regardless and the fish tasted very fresh! Rice was perfectly seasoned too! Overall, we enjoyed our dinner here! Food tasted good, servers were very friendly, and service was quick! Highly recommend!

Laura Jean O.

Yelp
Food was fantastic but FYI we were told they no longer honor the 10% off first order offer on Yelp. Pizza sandwich and crispy rice topped with salmon were awesome.

Rina D.

Yelp
I found this hidden gem when I got hungry at a nearby cafe... and left feeling super content! I was lucky enough to go during their lunch special time, and the deals were pretty good! Portion sizes were huge, taste did not disappoint as they were all what I expected, and the service was speedy and friendly. The ambiance is a typical Japanese restaurant that would sell sushi The only thing that threw us off was that the tuna in the Carly Salad was a pit torched and wasn't just freshly sliced. This wasn't written in the description and it wasn't the type of tuna that we like so it felt like a bit of a waste of money and food on our part ): Other than that, everything was really good!

I L.

Yelp
Fantastic spot with very fresh fish, would come back! The tuna rolls that we had were delish.

Yoona K.

Yelp
HH REVIEW ONLY: Really good happy hour menu with multiple roll options, appetizers and drinks for discounted prices. Tried the Spicy Salmon, Salmon Avocado, Takoyaki, and Spicy Scallop (not on HH) for food. All the rolls were pretty good fish to rice ratio and I actually enjoyed the Takoyaki the most because it came out super fresh. For drinks, we ordered the Hot Sake and Sapporo. The sake is definitely not great quality... Once it gets a little less hot it tastes pretty bad but not bad for the portion ($7). Just drink fast and you should be fine :) Tip: I was also able to finish some work here and the wifi was solid.

Corina P.

Yelp
Great neighborhood sushi spot! All very fresh. Ordered the sushi for two and crispy rice. The crispy rice exceeded my expectations because of how fresh the rice tasted. Would come again!

Sheron V.

Yelp
the sushi is so fresh and yum! great customer service too. my go to in LIC. highly recommend!!

Carol L.

Yelp
We come here ALL THE TIME for HH! the drink specials and sushi specials are some of our go to mid-week pick me ups when we are feeling bit burnt out from work in the neighborhood. Will definitely be returning, hahaha!

Brian N.

Yelp
Their hour menu contained plenty of good options including a few specialty sushi rolls, and the items were delicious

Shangida H.

Yelp
Service was amazing and a great happy hour deal! The sushi was really good and the drinks were strong!

Hector B.

Yelp
The food was wonderful. The service was wonderful and even the drinks were a delight. I just asked the advice of the manager and he guided the experience. The place was clean and bright with not too dim lighting. The bar was nice and opened, plus where I sit. It was a great experience and I look forward to my return.

Ian S.

Yelp
So good!! Best happy hour in LIC hands down. We dont even live in this area anymore and still come by as much as possible. Definitely order the Eggplant Sandwich!

Andrew K.

Yelp
Ordered sushi for 2 and was the right amount of food! Good soup and fresh fish! Staff was also friendly, will be back soon!
