"Oooh Wee It Is is officially closed in Chatham. The building at 33 E. 83rd Street is up for sale. The soul food shop was riding high in January after the Golden Globes when The Bear’s Ayo Edebiri lavished praise on the restaurant. A Wicker Park location never opened after it was announced and signage went up. That space now houses South Asian restaurant Vajra at 2039 W. North Avenue." - Ashok Selvam
"What started out as a sweet tea business, Oooh Wee It Is has expanded into a nostalgic (and entertaining) cereal bar and soul food joint in Chatham. This place has live music weekly, and is open for brunch and dinner. You’ll find favorites such as fried catfish, juicy green beans and white potatoes, and smothered pork chops with rice. However, one of the best things here are the pot roast cupcakes. This appetizer is a sweet corn muffin, layered with mashed potatoes, tender pot roast with gravy, and garnished with shredded cheese and green onions. Diners have been mixing these ingredients together on their plates since forever, it’s about time someone gave it the recognition it deserves." - phaithe norman, adrian kane
"Edebiri even mentioned Chicago’s colorful soul food restaurant, Ooh Whee It Is!, saying it was one of her favorite places to eat in town, as picked up by WBEZ." - Ashok Selvam
"A soul food restaurant expanding to a new location in Hyde Park, replacing Mellow Yellow." - Naomi Waxman
