What an interesting brewery! Nestled right in Fort Monroe, this is a must try if you're passing through.
We decided to give Oozlefinch a try on our drive from Williamsburg to Virginia Beach. I was really looking forward to it because I see Oozlefinch cans offered in local grocery stores, and now I can say that I've been! The drive through Fort Monroe is so picturesque, and they have a great location overlooking the water. There's also plenty of parking. Only comment I have about the space is I wish they had a trash can outside. We brought our pup along (yes, they are doggie friendly!), and after picking up his "business" we couldn't find anywhere to throw the bag away! I didn't want to bring it inside, so we wandered around until we found a big garbage bin outback.
Once inside, a man behind the bar gave us a quick rundown and told us we could order down at the register. Looking at the menu was a little overwhelming, there's so many choices! I need to meet whoever comes up with the combinations. This brewery is definitely a sour-beer drinkers dream, but not so much for all my IPA lovers out there. The two women by the register were so friendly and helpful! We were totally lost, but once we told them what kind of beers we normally drink, they were happy to give us recommendations. Also heads up, if you start a tab they keep your card (pretty standard at breweries now).
I ended up getting the Imperial Saison Ale with black mulberry, white mulberry, wildflower honey, vanilla and lactose. It's not something I would normally go for, but a nice change of pace. It tasted more like a spiked juice, but good nonetheless! My husband got the "DO A WIPA, Make Em' Dance" a White India Pale Ale. The names are hilarious!
Unfortunately, it was super cold and windy so we didn't get to enjoy the outdoor area. But we did brave the cold to try the food truck on site!
We will definitely come back the next time we're in the area, and I think this would be a really fun place to visit during the summer!
