Google
Good little spot to enjoy some food and drinks, especially during your stay at the hotel. The food is tasty and fresh. Not to pricey. They have happy hour specials. Service was ok, they usually only have one server working, so service does suffer. Not to many smiles or much of a greet. I enjoyed the atmosphere, lots of TV's & a couple of dartboards.

Google
Great place to grab a Texas brewed beer or top shelf Whiskey pour! The service was fantastic and the atmosphere was a very hometown feel! Staying at the hotel made this a very convenient place to eat and drink! One of the best old fashioned I've had!

Lauren Wilson

Google
We are staying in the hotel and this is super convenient!! Food is good American fare. Prices are awesome and the drinks are great!! Jo is a superstar!! She has the kindest vibes!!!

Google
I like the setup but the food just wasn't really for me. Maybe its an austin thing but I would rather eat fast food if I had to choose. However don't let that stop you from trying it cause my taste are just different. The location and service are really great. Also I loved the bar/diner setup.

Google
Great food tht chicken fried steak is really good and the mashed potatoes are too. My wife had a burger it was cooked perfectly and all the cooks cook every food by temp. When you come there make sure Tim or Josh is cooking cause baby it is so good. Order anything

Google
Everyone properly masked. Philly cheesesteak was good! Southwest burger was awesome! Extra salt please, the margaritas were great! The Bourbon Pecan Pie was delicious! And our waiter was the best!

Google
Tried this place because we had a coupon for a free appetizer as a perk with staying in the adjoining hotel. We chose the chicken nachos as our appetizer. They have friendly staff and a very large menu.

We visited on a slow Sunday afternoon. Great service and everyone enjoyed their food. We can recommend their wraps, wicked wings, and chili.

Yelp
This Opal Divine's location survived the pandemic, which is good news for Austinites and visitors who like casual, comfortable American dining and drinks. It's tucked in adjacent to a boutique hotel right off I-35 at Oltorf, so they have a convenient spot with plenty of free parking. Hours are updated to make it a happy hour, supper and evening hangout, with weekend brunch offerings. The full bar features multiple local and regional tap beers, an entire section of upscale single malt Scotch and various whiskies, along with the usual suspects and some specialty Mocktails, so you'll no doubt find whatever you like to drink. Their specialty dishes are mostly fried bar foods, but they do offer salads, sandwiches, Angus beef char grilled burgers, and some vegetarian options, including a grilled house made vegetarian patty that they'll swap for any of their Angus beef burgers. Their fried fish and chips are one of their most popular dishes. They offer happy hour food specials during the week. What draws us back, however, is the live music stage, which is set up to instantly transform the cozy restaurant into a cozy restaurant-bar. We helped fill the place this weekend for a local record release party, and the friendly, efficient staff worked their tails off to make sure everyone was well taken care of. Cheers to Opal's and to Austin hospitality and live music. May they all live on.

Yelp
Was visiting Austin and stayed at the attached hotel. Noticed they had a really good happy hour so I had to try it. The Barbacoa Sliders were delicious. They had a nice kick to them. The Bluebonnet drink was amazing! I'm not a lemonade or blueberry fan. But I am a huge fan of Cherry and Champagne. This drink was so good. Sweet, fruity with bubbles. The bartender/service was spot on. She was attentive and accommodating. I will absolutely come back here next time I'm in Austin.

Yelp
While visiting Austin, TX I stayed two nights at the adjacent Aiden Best Western. Came here the first night for dinner and it was not busy. The restaurant is nice, ambiance is good and their Chicken Fried Steak was delicious. Had that with their Independence Stash IPA and pair that with good and friendly service and my evening was good. The next night I had a late night dinner. Came in about 10 minutes before they closed and staff still took my order with a friendly attitude. Staff was attentive and adequate sure I was taken care of. Definitely recommend this place which you can come and sit at the bar or you can also come enjoy a family meal.

Ivy S.

Yelp
Friendly service, chill environment, 1/2 happy hour apps. Had the fried mushrooms and chicken tenders, both pretty good. Really enjoyed their dill ranch.

Garrett O.

Yelp
Very impressed with my first visit to Opal Divine's. They had plenty of parking during happy hour/dinner time, and plenty of space inside to sit (tables, booths, and bar seating). Extensive drink and food menus, so I'd love to come back for a few different items on the next visit. Staff recommended the Fish & Chips (~$15), and I would agree this is a solid choice. Wife was a big fan of the Fried Avocado tacos (~$15), but she still looked a bit hungry after finishing those off. I'd start with an appetizer next time! Everyone was very friendly and noticed they had darts in the back of the restaurant. Seems like a great spot to catch a sports game (it wasn't too rowdy during the Yankees/Astros ALCS matchup), and I did notice a handful of people finishing up work calls/sending emails on their computers. Will definitely come back next time in the neighborhood!

Kenneth T.

Yelp
Came in from Hutto for the fish-n-chips and some drinks. We miss the MOPAC Marina location and used to go there at least monthly. I tried their Barbacoa Grilled Cheese and it was delicious! Definitely a new take on my favorite food. Kayla was our server and didn't miss a beat. She kept the drinks coming and was super-attentive. It was also awesome to see some familiar faces. The GM used to be at the MOPAC location and is here taking care of business. Wish I had taken pics before but the after pictures would just be empty trays and wrinkled napkins. We will surely be back.

Yelp
, burgers, margaritas, chicken fried steak and amazing ambience. If you want to get a feel for American style comfort food only with an Austin tradition check out this South Austin gem. I love this classic building with the open trusses on the interior and lots of ceiling ornamentation. This will give you a feel of what it was like to live in South Austin 40 years ago before the world knew about it. Everything on the menu is dynamite and you can't go wrong!

Megan C.

Yelp
This place is not a place you should go to when eating in Austin. The food is terrible and the entire vibe is off. Run as fast as you can.

Lue S.

Yelp
I always find the staff to be friendly. They have a group of regulars. Me and my colleagues have become regulars too. The food and drinks are excellent. Try the fish & chips.

Amy G.

Yelp
Opal Divine's has some of my favorite macaroni and cheese in town. They've been open on and off throughout this pandemic and now that they're open again I had to come in for some of that mac that I'd been craving. Their website says they open at 3pm, but I got here at 3:45 and was told they don't open until 4:00. I decided I could wait 15 more minutes. I wanted a little something more than just mac, but that turned into a lot more. I ended up also getting the cheese fries and fried green beans. The mac was totally worth it, the cheese fries were overkill, and the fried green beans tasted a little burnt. The mac and cheese made it all worth it. I'll definitely be back again when I want an unhealthy treat!

Mary M.

Yelp
With this new location I sometimes forget that Opal Divine's is still around, but every time we go I am happy they still are. Their cocktails are AMAZING and the food is consistent. Service can be slow, but if you're going for a leisurely date night or to catch up with friends it's perfect for that.

Leslie S.

Yelp
Pros: Varied selections. Polenta fries were on point, oh so good! Cons: We ordered the veggie sandwich and the pico de gallo chicken sandwich, they were average at best, but I was glad to had vegetarian options. The main downfall was that I ordered a Malbec and it was definitely old, super vinegary with an off putting smell, at $9 a glass, I expect a fresh glass. Convenient if you stay at the Best Western.

Kristin S.

Yelp
To drink I ordered their Homemade lemonade which was very tart, but good! I came for lunch so I had their two step lunch and ordered a turkey panini and a side of rosemary, garlic fries. These fries are the way to go! You won't regret it. The turkey panini was pretty good as well.

Renny S.

Yelp
Opal Divine's was always a favorite - the W. 6th and Penn Field locations. Unfortunately, they are no more. The latest location has turned out to be great. The food - barbacoa sliders, burgers, multiple brunch options, and a lot more - are really good. I was given a sample of a newly-created soup (a really flavorful Mulligatawny). It was amazing. That chef knows what she's doing! The guy at a table next to me tried their creamy red bell pepper soup and flagged the waiter down to tell him it was one of the best soups he'd ever had. I could go on about the menu... I've never been disappointed. They also have decent live music and a really interesting crowd from the attached hotel.

Sara W.

Yelp
Sweet potato fries were great with a pint of a local beer on tap. Waitress was wonderful and friendly!

Ariel A.

Yelp
This bar-pub was recommended by the concierge located in the hotel am staying to my surprise this tavern location was what I needed to watch the Super Bowl, been away from home from many weeks can sometimes loose it's rewarding memories of family gatherings like today's, so dang glad I decided to give this Pub a shot, crowd was small but the immediate staff response to sit me down and get me a cold one was superb-- TV's displayed in ever corner making sure you didn't miss out on the game. Since I was a bit hungry I asked for the house specialty - which was shrimp penny -flavors Devine not anything you can't anywhere else but the small crow was such great company making my meal that much more special -- Bathroom super clean - Will be back next year thank you!

James H.

Yelp
I love the fact that this restaurant is within walking distance from my place of work and provides a broad menu selection for variety each visit. Always a bonus when they have a good selection of Texas beers on tap. The staff is Austin friendly and they work well as team to make my lunch hour quick & tasty.

Yelp
First time to this location as they recently moved here. Of course we came with my lil doggie because she loves the North location of Opal's. It was a small patio but cozy all the same and customer service was good. We ordered: Natural Cut Fries & Dip - these were fresh and perfectly cooked and seasoned. They came out with a Dill Ranch sauce and a sun-dried tomato aioli - both were flavorful and delicious which complimented the Fries rather well. Zihuatanejo Shrimp Taco - this is always my "Go To" taco at Opals. The shrimp is fresh and plenty and the bacon not overpowering but compliments well with the shrimp and sweetmess from the Mango Pico. Pork Brisket Taco - this was a decent taco, probably not my favorite but flavorful all the same. Baja Fish Taco - my daughter was not too impressed with this taco - it was OK but she said she had better at other places. And of course we got my doggie a peanut butter bone and a beef slider - just her size - and she loved her meal. All in all it was a pleasant visit with decent food and good customer service. I do prefer the location up North better though. Its not quite a 4 star but if I could add a half star - I would give a rating of 3.5.

Yelp
I have been a fan of the multiple incarnations of this pub for about 20 years. Started going to the one on 6th after Waterloo Brewing Company closed down, then the Penn Field location, and now this one. It's really everything a bar/pub should be: great food, decent prices, and very clean and comfortable. I like going on Wednesday when pints are of Texas beer are only four dollars. FOUR DOLLARS! Their cheese steak sandwich is the best in Austin. They have a mixed drink called the Trace of Texas that I believe is served only there and it is super tasty. They have some real dart boards, too, the kind that you have to play with steel tip darts and the boards are in good condition. It just seems to be very well managed. Really highly recommended.

Jennifer D.

Yelp
Came here for lunch, wish I didn't have to go back to work because the cocktail menu had me drooling. However, I went with the lunch special called the 2 Step and got a half Turkey Panini with Sweet Potato Fries for $6.99 I almost got the Mac and Cheese for my side and the waitress indicated that people like it but the magnetic pull of sweet potato fries is always stronger. We sat outside and it was perfect! Even though it's over 90° out, the shade, breeze and fans made it quite pleasant!

Amber A.

Yelp
Ordered the bandera and fries via doordash. Fries were good. Burger was decent but it looked nothing like the picture, and the meat actually overwhelmed the onion strings and bacon. Needed more of the sides to get more flavor. Felt like I got shorted on fries. Probably won't order from here again. Delivery was speedy but I've had much better burgers, like jos coffee and hop doddy.

Nita E.

Yelp
Great bar food & more at good prices. Drinks are nice & potent. Our server, Donny was delightful. Live music was just getting started when I visited in a Saturday night. If U stay at the adjacent Aiden Hotel U get breakfast in the morning.

Melody C.

Yelp
Great family friendly spot that was clean & had quick table service. It was attached to the hotel we stayed at so was convenient for our trip. They had really yummy food & some great drink specials. Wish the hours were a bit longer, as it's part of the hotel & only operates 4-9 during the week but understandable. Friendly waitresses too :)

Jake M.

Yelp
Got to-go and it was so good. Got the spicy chicken sandwich which was delicious and just enough spice. I also got the brownie/ice cream dessert which was amazing.

Benjamin B.

Yelp
I have been a fan of Opal Divines for close to twenty years; my first experience being at the Free House on W. 6th. And when my family moved to South Austin we became regulars at the Pen Field location for brunch; we were sorry it closed. I am also sorry to report that my first experience at the newest location did not reflect the same charm as those of the past. Our party was seated at a table intended for a smaller group and the server was less than sympathetic to make arrangements that would better suit us. The service did not improve as after our server brought the drinks to the table she did not return for at least fifteen minutes and not again until well after our food had been delivered. When she did return she was unable to refill drinks as needed (specifically decaf coffee and unsweet iced tea) as the restaurant had yet to brew more. The food was enjoyed all around, but it was a disappointing experience. The customer service aspect of the meal was below par even by national chain standards, and they don't charge $5 cover on a Sunday afternoon for music that ends before we finished our meal.

Courtney P.

Yelp
My burger I Ordered was well done, NOT medium rare! Big difference! The steak Fried Steak was made from hamburger patty and not the steak they described. The potatoes were not seasoned. Hard and bland. Horrible. I liked the Mac and Cheese, best thing. There's A LOT of food places in Austin, a variety too, to settle for this.

Chris W.

Yelp
Great food and entertainment! I love staying at the Best Western off I35 with the restaurant/bar connected. Lots of good food options from appetizers to the main deal. We snacked on a few different ones and Franks some great Austin beers. Breakfast is there in the morning as part of the hotel stay. Great place and will continue to go back during my Austin stays!

Danny P.

Yelp
Amazing food and vibes. Can't tell ya anything else but that, loved the waiter he was cool and nice. Loved my burger, especially the fries. My partner loved his meal so much.

Henry L.

Yelp
Who charges for one leaf of lettuce- one tomato-one ring of onion? Wow! Won't be returning here! And AC wasn't -humid air blowing. Burger and fries were decent.

Shonda M.

Yelp
Despite a negative first experience, my husband and I came back. It was a Monday night and we were extremely hungry and decided to stop as we drove past. The place was not busy at all, but that doesn't surprise me for a Monday night. Our server was nice and attentive. I ordered the veggie sandwich and added a side of fries and my husband ordered the half Susan salad with a whole salmon. The food did take awhile, which was the most negative part of our experience and the reason I'm rating 3 instead of 4 stars. Considering how slow the restaurant was, it probably should have been much more quick than the 20+ minutes it took. But the food itself was very good and the portion sizes were much better than our previous experience. I am happy that this place has made a turnaround and would be willing to give it another chance.

Dianne J.

Yelp
While visiting Austin, I came across this little jewel of a restaurant. With 4 stars, and close proximity to my hotel.. I gave it a shot. They had a broad menu and the food was very good. Our server was very friendly and helpful. I would normally not go to a restaurant next to a 3-Star Hotel, but Opal Devine is an exception.

Ryn B.

Yelp
When this Opal Divine's was at its former location on S Congress, I found the food to be maybe a notch above mediocre... there was nothing remarkable about the selection or the taste. I feel the same way about the new location. It's standard American fare - hot sandwiches, potato and/or grease-based sides, and standard issue brunch like pancakes and bacon - and accomplishes the task of filling an empty stomach... that's pretty much it. I went to the new location a little before noon and found it eerily quiet and pretty much devoid of character. There are beer/liquor logos above the bar and... that's pretty much it. The old location at least had a big patio with somewhat of a view, and was dog-friendly. There's still outdoor seating, but you'll only get to face the traffic on Oltorf. I appreciate that they came back and are trying, and the staff was awesome - our server was super friendly and attentive (maybe in part because he only had one other table to wait on). I just wish there was more of a reason to go back.

Joshua K.

Yelp
I was just very unimpressed. The place is kind of dingy, but not in a full. Dive bar sort of way. I thought the beer prices were somewhat high ($4 for a lone star draft) I got a cocktail (don't remember what it was called but I think it had lemonade and Pama) it was alright, nothing special, also didn't realize it would come in a martini glass. I think it would have been better in a rocks or Collins glass and poured over ice. They must have either had no hostess at all, or cut the hostess. Took a little bit to be greeted and sat at a table. I watched other people wait longer than us though, so it could have been worse I suppose. The happy hour seemed like it might be a good deal, but with the location being somewhat tricky to get to, and the menu being fairly unimpressive in general, not sure I would use my energy making the effort to go there. There are plenty of other places I would check out first, or go to again, before I decide to give Opal Devine's another chance

Jacob C.

Yelp
I'll preface this by saying I don't normally like writing reviews as some restaurants have off days, but this restaurant has been off from the very beginning and from the old location on South Congress Ave. Me and a friend came in on St. Patrick's Day to get some food. They had a band playing inside, so we decided to eat outside. We were greeted by the server promptly and put in drinks and an appetizer. We received the drinks quick and put our entrees to the server Jackie. We recieved the entrees and appetizers all at once 15 minutes later. I told the food runner or the possible manager that we asked for our fried pickles to come out before, but shrugged and said she "might" do something (she didn't). We unwrapped our utensils and found we recieved plastic silverware. I figured that was odd, but noticed everyone else dining also had plastic utensils, so either they didn't have enough metal utensils for the restaurant or they weren't expecting that many people today. I forgot to also mention we got plastic to-go cups for our dine in meal, but it didn't really matter as our drinks weren't refilled until we tracked down another server to please get us some refills. We ate quickly, paid, and jetted out of there. Opal Divines is good for your standard American fare of fried food, sandwiches and beer, but are still plagued by the same problems that possibly closed the South Congress location. The service is still bad, the appetizers don't come out before your main meal, and your drink glass (plastic cup) will mostly be bone dry throughout your meal. Sorry Jackie, you're nice and friendly, but a career change might be in order. The two stars is only for the food, just barely. The reopened restaurant almost a year later is still bad and needless to say, me, my co-workers, and my friends will not be coming back.

Katy M.

Yelp
Three works - hatch pepper gravy! Amazing!!!! The taste lingered in my mouth for a while after. I was in heaven. Staff is very friendly! We really enjoy this place.

Cindy N.

Yelp
Needed someplace for a large crowd (60). Called ahead and was told they could meet our needs. They not only met our needs, they exceeded it. Food, drinks, service, ease of finding venue for out of towners... ALL of it was fantastic!

Cornelis P.

Yelp
Solid 3.5 stars even though they have only been open a week. Wednesday is Texas Beer Night and they have a great selection. We were happy with the good too, had fried green beans, the Buffalo chicken sandwich and the Cuban sandwich. Give them a try!

Jostein L.

Yelp
This place is so good one of the best chicken fried steak I've had since Cracker Barrel & the biscuits they give you with your meal are so buttery it's amazing.

Daniela M.

Yelp
We came to Opal Divine's before heading over to a ceremony and were in a rush to eat. Once we got seated, the waiter hadn't even attended us for the 15 minutes we had been sitting there. There were only 4 other tables with people; it really wasn't packed to the point that the servers could be busy. We left.

M W.

Yelp
If I could give less stars, I would. Be aware: this is a restaurant attached to a Best Western. AND...it lives up to exactly what you would expect to be connected to motel. We walked in and there wasn't a member of the staff anywhere to be found. We waited at the door to be seated--nobody came. We sat at the bar--nobody came. We waited--nobody came. We left--nobody noticed. Do yourself a favor--skip this place!

Shandon G.

Yelp
We are staying at the hotel and were delighted to find this gem in Opal Divines. Our waiter Andrew was great, and his suggestions were spot on. Hubby had their buffalo chicken sandwich and I had the Cuban. Both were good, but our cocktail was great! We loved their Blue Bonnet cocktail - tito's vodka, blueberry lemonade, cherry liquor and champagne. Light and refreshing in the Texas humidity, yet packed that cocktail punch. Their homemade chips and salsa were also great, we plan on coming back while we are guests of the hotel for a later afternoon snack and drink before venturing back into the city.

Mike N.

Yelp
I really like this place; Great location, great outdoor seating with misters for summer. No skeeters either! Nice beer taps; nice deals during the week. A good place to get a flight and try new beers. Great neutral place for a 1st date. 98% great staff; except for one bartender during the day who was too busy talking to a guest and leaning on the bar ignoring me for 10 minutes. Instead of making a scene I walked out. Other than that one jerk, whom I'm sure is long gone by now, it's grate! ( as the incredible amounts of illiterates say online! :))

Karen B.

Yelp
This place has really picked up in the past few months. We used to visit the downtown location years ago, but after it closed it seemed opals was struggling. Fast forward to now, opals in the best western is really killin it! They have the same vibes you know and love. High quality, made to order food with a caring, keep Austin weird kind of staff. If you are looking for a great causal dining experience weather brunch or dinner, stop by opals divines!

Michelle M.

Yelp
Wow. Terrible night and day. Morning breakfast featured just tepid food and sticky tables - two days in a row. Evening service non-existent. I was able to watch and entire episode of Entertainment Tonight and still didn't get my beer or a waiter to take my order. Steer clear. Austin has much better.

Cheryl V.

Yelp
worst place ever...we were visiting austin and out of all the places we could have went to we took a chance at hotel resturant.... walked in and we were only 3rd table in whole place....ordered drinks and they came really fast.... only problem is that my dads $15 margarita was not to his liking....he sent it back and you could HEAR THE BARTENDER talking about my dad.... the next margarita came out and OMG tasted like he squirted like 10 lemons in it.... it hurt my throat trying it was so sour, i thought we were being punked... my dad took it to him himself and the bar tender literally yelled at my dad, he was so defensive and unprofessional... i barteneded for 5 years and would never ever treat anyone like the way he did. AND IN FRONT OF CUSTOMERS! we cancelled our food and went elsewhere... this place is a joke...no wonder it was so dead... Dont waste your time here

Gilbert A.

Yelp
Glad they reopened, but will never fully replace the Penn location. Still has the same deals, place is pretty welcoming and spacious, not sure is bigger than the old spot. I tried the Cuban sandwich which is quite good. The Wip inn is just down the road, it will make it harder to compete specially because of the beer selection and much better vibes. Good luck Opals and hope to see you soon.

Audrey B.

Yelp
TERRIBLE. We waited for our food for over an hour and when we finally got it it was dry and cold. Our waitress, Whitney, was awful. She never checked on us and was not nice.

Deborah D.

Yelp
I stayed at the Aiden for three days and my initial intent was to eat at Opal Divines for the first night for convenience and then try something different the next two nights. That didn't happen. We ate there all three nights. The food was delicious, fresh, the presentation was good. I had the Cuban sandwich one night and the next two nights I had the chicken fried steak which is the best I've eaten in Austin. My daughter had the fried chicken sandwich and it was so good she had it two nights in a row. And the Mac and Cheese is to die for. We had margaritas every night and again, best margaritas ever! I will definitely make the trip to eat here again even when not staying at the hotel. Service was great, it was just a great experience all the way around.

Joseph M.

Yelp
Nice hotel restaurant. Fullty stocked bar is set up for unwinding from a full day. Prices are decent. Service is ok
