"What you see is what you get at the Spicewood barbecue joint. The giant pit that greets you when you enter is full of succulent, fatty, and delightfully seasoned brisket. Or perhaps it’s the enormous pork chops, jalapeno-cheese sausages, or tender pork ribs that are more appealing. Whatever you order, pick up a few sides to go with it: a heaping serving of spicy corn, tater tot casserole, and the off-menu Coca-Cola cake. Takeout orders can be placed in person; there are indoor dine-in areas." - Nadia Chaudhury

"The go-to Spicewood barbecue restaurant features plentiful smoked meats, from tender brisket, customers choose their barbecue cuts, including tender brisket, spicy-sweet baby back ribs, and full-on pork chops. The dessert menu is tight, too, from the fruit cobblers to the off-menu Coca-Cola cake. Takeout and indoor dine-in services are available." - Nadia Chaudhury

"Matthew McConaughey shared his favorite two restaurants in the Texas area with digital series America’s Test Kitchen last week. For barbecue, it’s Spicewood joint Opie's BBQ (he’s a fan of the sausage and jalapeno corn); for sushi, it’s specifically the madai made by Uchi chef and owner Tyson Cole." - Nadia Chaudhury

One of the best places I’ve ever been to for a classic Texas BBQ. We stopped by here because we’re moving to another state soon and this will definitely make me miss it. The brisket was so tender, the ribs had a beautiful glaze, the sides were wonderful, and the blackberry cobbler was the perfect way to end it. Even the sweet tea was classic super sweet Texas sweet tea.

Google
This just became one of my favorite BBQ places! Me and my fiancée were here on Saturday about an hour before they closed. We got half a pound of brisket and half a pound of ribs and a side of tater tot casserole, potato salad, banana pudding, and blackberry cobbler. All of the sides and desserts were absolutely delicious. All I can say about the meats is that they were a little dry but it’s okay because we did come an hour before they closed and it tasted better with the BBQ sauce. Overall, we will definitely be back!

Google
Sausage, brisket, and ribs were average, but let me tell you about that spicy corn. I would easily drive an hour just to order that, it is so good!

Google
Got a recommendation for this place and have to pass it on. We weren't even very hungry but the guy made it sound so good. Usually either the bbq place has good meats or good sides this place has both. Best turkey I have ever had. Tater tot casserole is one of the greatest sides I've ever eaten.

Google
This was hands-down the best BBQ we had in Texas. The brisket was great, the baby back ribs were tender and well-seasoned. For sides, we had the butter beans, classic potato salad, and tater-tot casserole. All were good! Also tried the banana pudding, which had more of a mousse-like texture but was quite tasty (and very sweet). You order at the counter, service is very efficient, and you are left alone to enjoy your meats. Highly recommend!

Google
This is a great spot for families!! Order the meat that is in a huge cooker, staff cuts up portion that yall order & wraps it perfectly. There are other choices for sides but styrofoam containers are small. Huge open lay out w/tables. Great for taking food to go or eating there. Place stays open until food is gone so get there ASAP.

Google
First time at Opie’s bbq. Had a good dinner even though we arrived late and the meat options were a little more limited. The smoked chicken and turkey were very tasty. Would recommend this place to others.

Google
Brisket is AMAZING!!!!! GREAT BARQ AND IS FALL APART DELICIOUS!!!!!!!! The Spicy corn is really good and the banana pudding is delicious! Great BBQ place, glad I read the reviews and gave it a try. I will definitely go out of my away again for this food.

Yelp
Best folks in Spizzle - Amazing food!! Sweet owners and great service !! NoraJane Gallegos

Yelp
Good solid BBQ. Good brisket, good beans, good sauce, right price. They had solid Texas brisket with a good crust. My only complaint was the lack of salt--but not a huge issue or at all a deal breaker. The sauce was not sweet or very spicy but just right! The beans were great, as much as you want, and self serve--again not salted and not a big issue. Good sides were available like their delicious craisin coleslaw! Very nice people working! I would imagine adding salt to the crust of the brisket would add a dimension to the already beautiful crust. Good BBQ!

Yelp
Food and drinks were good. Would go again They have an outdoor seating as well. Staff was attentive to our needs

Yelp
Brisket was great. BB ribs too spicy for me. Let me add sauce if I need it! Wonderful employees, as usual. Prices are very reasonable.

Yelp
4 & 1/2...Aside from longtime Marc Maron/WTF listeners like myself who were put on by the irascible hosts citing of this spot as his personal favorite that he always tries to make a point of visiting when in the Austin Area, I feel like this place is a little bit under the radar in the Central Texas BBQ pantheon, and in my estimation, it can go toe to toe with many of the other much more widely known spots, both in terms of food quality and authentic vibes. All of the meats have always been uniformly excellent and masterfully prepared. This would go for the most traditional of the meats on offer, "The Texas Trinity" of succulent, smokey and impossibly moist brisket (I particularly recommend a fattier cut here), zesty and saucy spare ribs, and delightfully snappy, fatty and unctuous links of jalapeño cheddar beef sausage. It's also the case there the pit-master goes deeper into more rarely seen offerings like pork chop or pork loin. Even the turkey breast, usually a good bet to be the driest, most blah protein to be found in a Texas BBQ, here is consistently and astonishingly juicy and flavorful to the point that it actually rapidly vanished from the tray. The also buck the normal trend of sides in great bbq spots being forgettable afterthoughts by having some truly delicious ones on offer approaching the greatness of the smoked meats, namely a creamy and zesty creamed corn and a truly addictive tator tot casserole that deliciously combines crispy, creamy and cheesy notes. As I mentioned the delicious food is matched by it's location and decor which only further serves to complete a truly authentic and singular Texas BBQ experience. The large roadhouse-like wooden structure, outfitted with a classic retro style sign, is located right behind a gas station which also houses both a country store and, even more conveniently a liquor store, the better to serve the customers who want to take advantage of the establishments glorious BYO policy. Like at any great Texas BBQ, the smell of the delicious bounty within will hit you as soon as you park, leading you inside in a meat fume fueled trance. When you walk into the massive wide open interior dining room, the first thing you'll be greeted by is a large smoker on the floor displaying all of the days available delicacies. Obviously you should come with as big a group as possible, the better to sample the most of what's on offer. You'll then proceed with your packed trey to one of the many large communal tables and proceed to having an incredible meal, and likely need to be rolled out on account of how stuffed you all are, despite maybe still having some leftovers because it's just so hard to to order soooo much at a place this great. Really a wonderful BBQ experience worth a drive up from Austin for this alone, or even more clutch should you be visiting the nearby LBJ Ranch, a truly interesting Hill Country historical site just a short drive away.

Yelp
We stopped here for a quick lunch. Pretty reasonably priced for BBQ. The brisket had a good bark and smoky flavor. The jalapeño sausage wasn't our favorite; it was too smoky for me. The spicy corn packed a punch! The mac and cheese had a good noodle to cheese ratio. The beans are complimentary; I thought they were the best side. There was live music there for lunch which made our day. It was a very fun atmosphere.

Yelp
This is such a great spot to get some barbecue, especially if you're coming from Krause Springs, which is like 5 min away. We got here on a Saturday afternoon and it didn't take us long at all to find parking, get in, order, and find a seat. I love love love the "toppings" counter they have in the middle of the restaurant, where you can help yourself to barbecue sauce, two types of beans, pickles, spicy carrots, onions, and bread. They also had a live singer at the front, who created a really nice ambiance. The meat was really good, (the chicken was actually quite tender). But some parts of the brisket was not as juicy as I had hoped it would be. But the star for me anyways was the sides: the potato salad and slaw to be exact. And the tator tot casserole and cobblers were also super yummy. The green beans were a little too salty for my taste and I wish the corn had a bit of a sweet element along with the spiciness, but everything was still tasty anyways. And I really wanna come back to try the banana pudding. We weren't able to get any this time around, but it looked so good!

Brent R.

Yelp
Really good food!!!! Had a brisket sandwich with potato salad and spicy corn that was definitely worth the drive. Everyone here was really friendly and had nothing but nice things to say. Atmosphere is really nice and open. I will be back next time I'm passing theough

Zoey G.

Yelp
The bbq here is next level !! I got the brisket and jalapeño sausage , as well as the cranberry almond slaw , and a cherry cobbler which I don't normally eat but I'm so glad I included it ! There was live folk music by one man which I enjoyed , the staff is more than happy to help and the sweet tea is sweeettt. Slayed 10/10

Brenda G.

Yelp
Ten stars for this place! We got here early as once it's sold out, you're outta luck. Good thing because as soon as we ordered, I looked behind us and the line was out the door. Go early. You walk in and the huge BBQ is right there. You pick what you want. We ordered ribs, brisket, sausage and chicken. All of it was excellent. We also got some mac & cheese, tater tot casserole and green beans. They were good and I'd definitely order them again. But, the spicy corn. OMG...I could eat that daily. It was so good. Sadly, we're only visiting Texas so we won't be able to go back as often as I would like. But I will definitely request to go there next time we're visiting relatives.

Michael H.

Yelp
Had some friends in town from Florida so we took them to Opies for some BBQ. Overall just a great experience. BBQ was delicious, the sides were great, and we even met the owner and his dog. It was a perfect day of Texas hospitality and BBQ for our out of town friends.

Mildred A.

Yelp
Decided to stop by Opie's for lunch on my way back to Austin. 1. Really friendly staff- smiles and polite 2. I got the sausage sandwich: definitely a good portion. It wasnt as hot as I would have liked. I also go the potato salad and i wasn't in love with it. 3. It is definitely a nice spot and give you the ambience of a typical bbq spot.

Richard S.

Yelp
BBQ is as good as any of the top 10 in Texas. Not sure why Texas Monthly magazine doesn't rate them?? Located in SW Austin area, not hard to get to. Don't miss out on this Q. Oh and the desserts are like Mom used to make!!!!!

Kaycie Y.

Yelp
I've never been more happy to be pregnant with a huge appetite than this afternoon while visiting Opie's. I was a little nervous seeing the parking lot and the line out the door - but was pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the front of the line, ready to order in less than 15 minutes!!! Seating wasn't too hard to find either which was such a relief. The meat is INCREDIBLE. We ordered the baby back ribs, brisket (lean and moist), sausage, a slice of turkey and a slice of pork. I felt like I looked crazy just going in on the sides. We got the Tater tot casserole, green beans, spicy corn, and Mac and cheese. They also have bread, beans, sliced onions, and pickles available after you order. I could not for the life of me stop to breathe. And finishing it off with the banana pudding was the move. I just about licked the container it came in. We now have a serious problem on our hands as we live about 40 minutes away and I will be craving Opie's at least twice a week. Amazing food, amazing staff, amazing service, just an overall perfect first time experience.

Gabriel G.

Yelp
Drove by and smelled the BBQ. There was a long line so I decided to try this BBQ place. First why do people insist on standing in the doorway keeping the door open for flies? No one is cutting in front of you. As soon as you get inside the meats are there for your picking. Friendly employee cuts what you want. Then you stay in line. Took a little time am I am thinking my brisket is getting cold. A man kept offering everyone free beer. Nice gesture! When we finally sat down the brisket was awesome. So tender, just perfect. I could eat my self silly. I have been all over Central Texas and this was up there with the best BBQ ever. Give it A+. Did not try the sides. Butymthey looked really good. All types of cobbler available. Brownies looked delicious Recommend you try Opies BBQ

Sierra B.

Yelp
Brisket was delicious. The jalapeño sausage has a nice kick to it. My husband said it's some of the best barbecue he's had in a while. The staff is fast and has a great working order making the ordering process quick and easy. Restaurant is large and very clean. Would definitely recommend for some great BBQ. Wish there was Mac and cheese on the menu, but that's just me being picky!

Misha T.

Yelp
It was a good hill country destination and some things were pretty good. Of the meats, the sausage is ok, the pork ribs were on the dry side, and the brisket is really good. So I think I'd basically just do brisket. On the sides, the tater tot casserole is excellent and the potato salad is solid. You also basically get unlimited beans and bread, which is a pretty incredible model and the beans (particularly the limas) are really good.

Nicki G.

Yelp
Opie's BBQ is awesome!! We stopped by here after visiting Klause Springs and it was so good! The tater tot (or was it hash brown) casserole was so freaking good. Mac and cheese and spicy corn were also so damn good (try mixing them it was awesome). Brisket was super tender and sausage was also great. Honestly liked this place more than Terry Blacks BBQ in Austin

Lyla A.

Yelp
Drove in from Round Rock. We tried a little bit of everything (see receipt). - The brisket was good and had a slightly different flavor from your traditional brisket. Try it! - The Turkey was probably the best BBQ Turkey I've ever tried. Nobody in my family wants to eat Turkey so I got just 1/4 lb and I wish I had gotten more. So moist and perfectly smoked. It didn't even need sauce. - sausage was thick cut with a good texture we got 1/2 links each of the regular and the jalapeño cheddar. - we got 1/2 rack of baby backs (haven't tried them yet!) and some regular pork ribs. Hubs said they were good! -The tater tot casserole was amazing. We get this at our local bbq joint but this blew that one away. So cheesy and moist! We also got the spicy corn (had a kick but the kiddos could eat it), the cranberry slaw and both kids of beans. I love their self service set up. Finally, they had a few little 2 person tables outdoors to eat. I would drive out here again to eat at Opie's. Great hometown joint. Please like my review and photos if you find them helpful!

Ron S.

Yelp
Opie's is the real deal. Order up front while you view the meats. Once the meat is gone for the day, they close. So don't dally. We're we're there on a Thursday around 12:45 and it was not too busy. Large Brisket (fatty) sandwich and half a link of jalapeño sausage w/o cheese. Beans and bread are complimentary serve yourself. Lots of sides available (and they looked good) but I stuck with meat today. Only downside is the location 45 minutes outside Austin. But if you are driving up to the horse shoe bay resort, you need to stop here.

Rick B.

Yelp
Bbq is very good. Turkey breast was very moist and well seasoned. If you go, try the weekend as that is when they serve the complimentary butter beans. I would go just for the beans. They also had live music while we ate. Very traditional Central Texas atmosphere, very nice.

Chris L.

Yelp
Living in Austin Texas now for about 5 years, I have become a Barbecue connoisseur among many of my friends and family. I have tried most all of the known places and seem to be borderline obsessed with good, lean brisket! I happened to be across the street from Opie's getting my car serviced and decided to walk over and give the restaurant a try! Wow, am I glad I did! Upon walking in they have a warming pit right at the door and the waitress fresh cuts the meats for you before you ring out. I thought that was a very authentic touch and the minute I walked in I saw some fresh new brisket roasts being brought out so it was my LUCKY DAY! I ordered plenty of lean brisket, both rib options, and a regular link. The Brisket was honestly some of the best I have had bar none! I am not a big fan of fatty brisket although the flavor is better. Opie's really does a nice job with the smoking and the flavor ring was superb! The dry rub on the ribs were absolutely delicious! I would say the link was good but didn't blow me away. All in all, Opie's really delivered and it is worth the nice drive up HWY 71!

Peggy B.

Yelp
Well dang y'all. Been driving by Opie's for years but never had/made the occasion to stop in. BIG mistake. Their brisket is fall-apart tender. Ribs are very good and the sausage is good. Creative sides like the pea salad, green beans, pinto beans and tater tot casserole. The meat is seasoned dry rub style but they have a really nice side sauce you can add as you like. Oh, and they do have cobblers for dessert. Very casual like a good BBQ should be. Very nice staff. Welcoming and helpful. Opie's is a win!!!!

James K.

Yelp
New to TX but a long time foodie and Opie's is quickly becoming one of my favorites. I first came to Spicewood in 2021 while looking at property and a local friend recommended Opie's for some "genuine" BBQ. I was anxious to try since we had already been to a few other recommended BBQ places by other friends. Some good and some not so good but they were all down the road in Austin. For starters, just make sure you are aware although they might have some hours posted, they close when they run out of meat and some days, it seems that happens quite early. When we walked in, you are right at the grill where someone will take your order. The meat is already cooked and they will slice up exactly what you want. After the grill, you can pick up and hot/cold sides you want. Highly recommend the spicy corn. There are traditional sides like potato salad and cole slaw and if by some chance you are still hungry after a full plate of BBQ, they have some hot desserts you can enjoy. This is a pretty "no frills" place but when I'm going for BBQ, this exactly what I expect. I care far more about the quality of the food than anything else. But they do have plenty of seating and even some flat screens playing whatever sports happen to be on that day. I've been several times and this most recent visit, they had live entertainment which was quite good. I read through some of the other reviews from other patrons and really just don't understand what people are looking for. This is as authentic as it gets and beats most BBQ places I've been to in my short time living in Texas. But just because I'm new to Texas and Texas BBQ doesn't mean I don't know good food. Of course though, I am a little biased because I will be moving to Spicewood around summer 2022 and without question, this will be one of my regular spots! But until that time, I'll get up here as often as I can and when I'm craving BBQ, there is no other place I will go than Opie's. Surely I'll still try any other BBQ place but in Opie's, I know I'm guaranteed great BBQ every time. If you are in Austin or just visiting, you really owe it to yourself to drive up here to check out this amazing place!

Cristina A.

Yelp
The best BBQ and best restaurant in Spicewood. We love to take our guests and they are always happy to visit this great place.

Rich G.

Yelp
Lunch at Opie's. Yummy food friendly staff. When you enter you pick your meats - next you pick vegetables- coleslaw or potato salad- cobbler and other goodies. You pay at the counter. In the center of the restaurant there is a place to get "free" beans - bbq sauce- pickles- onions- and bread. The brisket was excellent also had some sausage. Lots to choose from. Worth a visit for Texas bbq v

Darlene Z.

Yelp
Opie's BBQ has the absolute best smoked Turkey. Always juicy! The tot casserole is delicious. The corn casserole is a bit too spicy for me personally. Whatever buffalo-type sauce they have is magic.

Maxson B.

Yelp
Best brisket, sausage, and sides. Go for the Jalapeño cheese sausage links. Potato salad and tatertot casserole are dangerous. They sell out of things pretty quickly so try to arrive for an early lunch (11:30ish). I have to stop when working in spicewood

Taylor B.

Yelp
The owner (and his massive cute dog) was super nice and friendly. The tater tot casserole is a must buy, as is the banana pudding. The bbq was pretty good and the ambiance was awesome. The sauce was a little thin and vinegar heavy for my taste but everything was very filling and tasty. Great road trip stop, just get ready to leave with a full belly.

Russia A.

Yelp
Great BBQ joint - best thing is their cobblers. They have many flavors and they are quite tasty!

Steffie S.

Yelp
Melts in your mouth BBQ. I am not a connoisseur of BBQ, but my understanding is that, if you can eat the meat without any need for sauce, then the meat is GOOD! Yep, that's Opi's- no sauce needed! Oh, and in case you're wondering, the craisin cole slaw, the butter beans, and the cobblers are also damn good. My guy liked the spicy corn, but I prefer plain old sweet corn. The brisket literally could have melted between my tongue and the roof of my mouth- it was that tender and juicy. I loved the pork ribs (over the beef ribs). We honestly recommended this place to two groups of people (at our next stop which was Krause Springs). It would be a crime to pass this place up. Get yourself to Opi's. It's a taste sensation!

Jackie C.

Yelp
Great BBQ, nice selection of sides and dessert, but most of all, it's the beans. Large pots of pinto or butter beans on the weekends that will make you think you died and went to heaven!!!!

Jeremy K.

Yelp
Opies consistently is putting out a great product. I've been going to Opies since 2008 and have enjoyed the consistency. They make phenomenal spicy baby back ribs. Just a unique taste overall. I've recently found their turkey sandwiches which are so damn good. Usually get the Texas trio at Opies but will gladly be substituting for the turkey sandwich for a smaller meal moving forward. Now let's talk about the sides. Coleslaw is on point, along with their potato salad. Peach cobbler is so damn good. Their pinto beans are fantastic. Yes, if you show up at 3:30pm the selection isn't going to be as strong, this is obvious as they only cook a portion of their meat each day. Grinds my gears people have a problem with that. This is how all bbq spots do it. Thanks Opies for being great!

Ken M.

Yelp
Probably one of the best barbecue places I've been doing taxes. The meat was not salty. It was very well done and the place itself was extremely clean. I would without a doubt try the ribs. They were tender not mushy When someone tells you to save the best for last, you can count on the cobbler here to finish a near perfect meal !!

Stacey W.

Yelp
All I can say is yummy. Great, sweet tea and free beans. The barbecue is so yummy. I eat here once or twice a week. The staff is always pleasant and the barbecue is always on point.

Joanne H.

Yelp
Great food and service! My daughter in law ordered a variety of meats and sides to take home. I especially loved the smoked Turkey. It was amazing! I can't wait to return! Unfortunately I live in NY. I have to wait until I visit my son again!

Michelle J.

Yelp
Food is fantastic!! The corn pudding and potato casserole is a favorite. Yum yum. Atmosphere is down home comfortable country. Come as you are. Sometimes you'll come and someone will be playing the guitar and singing. Would love to see more of that.

Frank E.

Yelp
It's yum and has great sides. You may be treated to some live music on Saturdays. Load your own pinto beans, jalapeño peppers, sauce, onions and pickles.

Jesse D.

Yelp
Very good bbq, but the sides somehow l outshined the meat. Can't name a spot with better sides. The tot casserole and corn were the best, but all were delicious. Highly recommend

Andi C.

Yelp
(I had to give 1 star in order to leave a review....) If you believe in the rights of those with disabilities to be served, please DO NOT go here! We were not allowed to bring in my husband's service animal. She is still finishing up her training and we have her vest on saying so. The manager told us that she could not be admitted because she is still in training. This is what Gov. Abbot has to say about that. The manager does not agree with him. https://gov.texas.gov/organization/disabilities/assistance_animals

Tami P.

Yelp
Yum yum yum. Order when you walk in or call ahead, pay at the register, Grab some wax paper to eat off like a plate, baked beans, BBQ sauce, jalapeños and such at the self-serve island of sides then settle in to eat way too much meat, meat and sides. Seriously, you can't just order one meat. Try a couple. The ribs were extra meaty, tender and falling off the bone. Jalapeno cheese sausage was good and the cheesy corn side dish was really tasty. The other sides were "normal good". I enjoyed the BQQ sauce, but prefer a bit more seasoned/spicy sauce. It was still very good. We'll eat here again, for sure. I hoped the potato side would be a bit less greasy but that cheesy corn rocked!. If you don't go early, they do sell out so get your booty out there. There is not much nearby so if you were wondering, yes, they are worth the drive!

Mark P.

Yelp
Legit Q. Came here for the brisket and was not disappointed. Heading back to the slicing station to order more.

Sarah S.

Yelp
Lovely people and even better BBQ! I love coming to see my son in Spicewood because we end up here for lunch.

Janine R.

Yelp
This is a no frills, bare bones operation. The staff is quite low key and friendly. Drinks are serve yourself. We did not try the butter beans, but they seem to be a local favorite. We got a mix of dry and moist. It has a good flavor, but not a place worth going out of your way for. The tater tot casserole was a good compliment to the meat and the green beans are also fine. They have a large selection of t-shirts with the restaurant's name on them. The walls are adorned with old tools and farming implements. There's nothing wrong with the restaurant, it's just not a stand out. They have a setup for live music. Maybe with beer and music it is better.

Ana A.

Yelp
Always some of the best barbecue in Texas. This is definitely a place I stop whenever I'm traveling down highway 71. The beans are just like Grandma's and the moist brisket is extra juicy. They have all the fixings with cobbler and green bean casserole at the top of my list.

Jack A.

Yelp
Why say you're open until 4:00 if you're not? I was traveling Hwy 71, and had heard about this BBQ place in Spicewood. GPS said I could just make it before closing and sure enough, walked in at 3:40. The first thing that met me was the smell...of cleaning products. Nothing wrong with bleach, but when you expect to smell smoke and you get soap, expecting BBQ and you get bleach, well, it's just not the right notes. They'd started cleaning up in anticipation of closing, which the sign said they didn't do until 4:00. The employees--all but one--looked at us like, "Oh no, a customer." I guess they don't realize customers pay their wages; maybe no one explained that down at the tattoo parlor. Anyway, one sweet lady opened the pit door and showed off the meat. I ordered some brisket from the fatty end and a half rack of ribs. Another nice lady asked if I wanted it to go or dine in. Well, I looked at the others and decided, this being Texas, and me knowing when I'm not wanted, to get it to go. How about some sides? Well, they'd put everything away except the cobbler. Here I am trying to buy something, and there's nothing to buy except dessert. My sweet tooth coaxed me to buy cherry and apple. Opie's has two kinds of beans that go along with any meat order. I like that benefit very much! I noticed there was no lid on the cauldron of pintos (the lid keeps the moisture in), and it was...dryer than the Texas sand. The butter beans were lidded and perfect. And a big shout to Opie's butter beans--they were 5*. I dug out what I could because to me, BBQ without pinto beans ain't right, and they had a good flavor (4* I added some water to them after I got home and nuked them a minute = 5*). Bread and jalapeños were plentiful, onions were scraps, plenty of pickles, plenty of sauce, plenty of cups to put it all in (but I wish they didn't use styrofoam). $45 and I'm out the door at 3:54. Brisket was more fatty than fatty brisket should be. The better places will trim most of the fat cap since hardly anyone eats that (and at $40/lb, few customers will return if you give them too much of what they can't eat). What beef there was was excellent and easily 4*. The ribs were very meaty 5* to the meat buyer, but dry as the beans (-2*) and the rub touted as spice was just average. I do not understand dry ribs. Have they not been taught to wrap the meat in foil to preserve moisture? Or did I run into the lazy crew? Cobblers were 5* and I can't tell you about the sides since there weren't any for me to buy. The jalapeno was perfect. I go by Opie's about once a month. I may stop again (but not anywhere near 4:00). If so, I'll update this review. Meanwhile, let's hope the owner explains to the folks who work there that if they want a career in the hospitality business, it sure helps to be hospitable. They got dry down, though.

Yelp
Every time we come to Spicewood and visit my husband's family, we always make a stop here at Opie's! They have the best BBQ everything especially if you have to feed a crowd. My favorite part of our Opie's visit is the condiments table with the variety of sauces, pickles and beans.

Yelp
Ended up on the way to San Angelo, TX for a business trip. I did some research on some options to enjoy a quick lunch on the way there from Houston, TX. Came across Opie's BBQ & the food did not disappoint. Please be mindful I was traveling on government per diem and I still needed to squeeze another meal out of this day. However, as other reversers have stated they slice your choice meat in front of you at the entrance and everything is priced by the pound. For comparison 1/2 pound of sausage is one half of a link. My colleague enjoyed the brisket sandwich (pro tip get the sandwich because it's $9 as opposed to a 1/2 pound of brisket which is $12). Back to my plate the baby back ribs were very tender and seasoned well and fell off the bone. The macaroni and cheese was very good and I purchased a second regular sized side on my own dime. I also tried the jalapeño sausage not pictured and it was solid, not as much jalapeño as I would've expected. Bread (white/wheat) is complimentary along with butter beans, pinto beans, bbq sauce & pickles. So you may want to consider that when selecting your sides during checkout.

Yelp
I see alot of people like this place. Ya im not one of those people. My main issue was with a couple of things i saw. I went into the place and they have a large box which im guessing is a warmer in the front. Everyone is friendly but the young lady that offers to show you the items doesn't have a hairnet nor gloves on. They have a bucket with the tongs and i saw her reach inside the bucket grab the tongs and while she had the tongs she scratched her head. I don't want the Utensils you just had around your head around my food. Then another person comes from the back with additional meat takes of his gloves just to grab the pan again and walk it over to the warmer. No hairnets, no gloves, staff sitting on the table where people have to dine. They have a community pot of beans and a self serve bread bar which i passed on that as well. I didn't eat, but my friend brought some brisket before i told him about what i saw. If you want to try it i say go for it but for me it was a no go. If this is what i see i can only imagine what i dont see.
