The 20 Best Bars In Bangkok - Bangkok - The Infatuation

"You may not want to search Opium by name alone, but it’s very much worth finding this Chinatown spot. The space was used for smoking opium when it was still legal, and now, it’s a bar with black leather couches and floral gold motifs decorating the walls. Opium’s cocktails use local ingredients and usually come in vessels made by Thai artists, such as hand-thrown ceramics and blown glassware. Get the Opium Oath, a clear, mezcal-based cocktail that tastes like toasted sesame, chamomile, and cucumber. For a dramatic effect, the bartenders drop fake red blood into the drink, as a nod to the blood oaths seen in Chinese films. It’s located above restaurant Potong, so you can also order a la carte from the kitchen to the bar (hello, soy-honey grilled eggplants and crispy chicken skin with caviar)." - vichayuth chantan

The 38 Best Restaurants in Bangkok, Thailand | Eater

"Set atop two-Michelin-starred Potong in a hidden alleyway in Chinatown, this bar is just the kind of place that dedicated barflies love. Dark and moody, Opium Bar seems tailor-made for secret assignations; with its tasting flights and five-drink “cocktail journey,” it’s also the perfect spot for celebrating with a flock of friends. Everything is good, but the Just One More Sip (a mix of Cointreau, tequila, bell pepper cordial, oyster salt, and pickled jalapeño brine) and the Teochew Negroni with black grass jelly deserve singling out." - Chawadee Nualkhair

Bangkok's Chao Phraya Might Have the World's Best Bar Crawl

"Opium Bar is located in a 120-year-old building in Chinatown, a 10-minute walk away from Independence Bar. It is situated above the Potong restaurant, featuring green barstools, herbal kombuchas, and four house-made gins."

Great bar option. It’s in a beautiful ancient house in an authentic area, you have to be patient with the elevator and hosts but after that the service is great. Cocktails are great and varied, food is good too (keep in mind the small portions) recommended dishes: wagyu fried rice and the crab sandwich.

The ambiance is great and the place is beautiful. The cocktails were delicious. Before we even chose, a staff member came over and gave a detailed explanation of the menu, helping my friends and me choose drinks that perfectly suited our tastes. What's more, the food was absolutely amazing! I'll definitely be back, and I look forward to trying more of the food next time.

While visiting World’s 50 Best Bars is not within my bucket list, no regrets patronising this place for the first time. Reservation was required for our visit with a non-refundable deposit of THB2000 in case of no-show. The deposit will be used to offset the final bill. Also, do note that there is a smart-casual dress code for this bar. Before my visit, I had confirmed with the bar via email (a prompt and professional reply which has set my expectation for the great service even before my arrival) that tailored chinos shorts are acceptable, just not beach shorts. Slippers or flip-flops are definitely not acceptable. The cocktails offered were quite interesting, especially the one that opted: World Champion - From Sip to Seed. Not too strong, elegantly presented that stimulates the senses of your taste buds. Other drinks on our table includes The Opium Oath (interestingly presented as well suited with its name), Pukka (with a BBQ squid to stimulate your sense of smell while taking a sip) and Hogmanay Tea (nothing fanciful). Of all the drinks ordered, I was glad that I opted for the World Champion drink. The drinks were served with refillable snacks as well. We also had the chance to order some food from the fine dining restaurant Potong; we ordered the Aromatic Dry-Aged Duck Leg Skewer (limited to 3 portions daily) and the Iberico Luo Buo Gao. Both were delicious, especially the turnip cake. This bar truly lives up to its reputation of being one of the World’s 50 Best Bars. Definitely lots of thoughts and effort poured into among those concoctions. Not to mention, the staff were friendly, knowledgeable and helpful as well! Note: The 2-person lift is interesting; but there may be a slight waiting time - else try going up or down the steep steps to experience the architecture of old buildings in Bangkok.

I would highly recommend this cocktail bar. It is located on the top floor inside a beautiful building also hosting a Michelin star restaurant. Cocktails are very well crafted and original. I tasted the award winning one (forgot name) and found it delicious. Also the sharing food is very good. In doubt go for the ribs. Next to this the service is perfect.

5min walking distance from Song wat road. Waited downstairs for around 10min. Staff very friendly especially the owner of the bar. I came here alone and he was very attentive. Very cozy experience because of him! Alcohol here is pretty strong so be careful. Will definitely visit again.

Google
cocktails here and they were seriously good. Each drink was well-balanced not too strong, not too sweet and had a nice depth of flavor. You can tell they use quality ingredients and really know how to mix. The bar was clean and cozy, with a chill atmosphere that made it easy to relax. Service was friendly and fast, Definitely a great spot to unwind after work or hang out with friends for a casual night out.

Google
The perfect bar. Location, history, tiny elevator, small room with low denizen hum. The staff are on it, personable without being over bearing. The main mixologist, told me at the end of the night he was sorry not to have been able to spend more time talking to me (solo gulpster) and I believed him. Getting to see the associated top flight restaurant that is also in the building is a nice bonus. The Chinatown location has the right mix of narrow old streets and tenant mix. Take a Tuk Tuk home to complete the experience.

A hidden gem in Chinatown - the Opium Bar is bit apart from the noisy turmoil of the night market but definitely worth the extra steps! It's located in an old chinese pharmacy on top of the Potong Restaurant. The place has a lot of flair combining old and new elements. The service was extraordinary! Friendly, passionate and always on point. You could feel that they love what they are doing! And not only feel. You could taste it! The drinks were fantastic! Unique creations that orientate themselves on different parts of the world. Parts were the bar tenders travelled to and experienced the taste of. And this taste they pour into your glass! Absolute recommendation when you visit BKK and are looking for a good bar! Two hints to level expectations especially for european travellers like myself: 1. It's a high class bar with creative drinks and unique tasting experiences to enjoy the evening. If you just want to have something sweet to get hammered you are at the wrong place. 2. Expect drinks to be a bit more "lightweight" as you probably know them. This is due to the climate from my perspective. Otherwise the second drink would blow you straight out of your socks.
