The 38 Best Restaurants in Seoul, South Korea | Eater

"Inspired by the charm of a traditional barbecue spot in Sancheong, a picturesque county near Jirisan Mountain, this restaurant transports you from a back alley off busy Eulji Street to the heart of Korea’s rural barbecue culture. The restaurant takes its concept seriously, sourcing high-quality ingredients such as black pork from the Jirisan area, while featuring dishes that reflect the region’s rich culinary heritage. Start your meal with the signature salt-grilled pork, expertly aged to amplify the pork’s rich flavors, followed by the spicy gochujang pork belly grilled over an open charcoal fire. And don’t miss the siksa menu, which offers a selection of hearty noodle and soup dishes that perfectly complement the meaty feast. Know before you go: There’s now an annex for more seating." - Matty Kim

This is a fantastic restaurant. The staff, the food, the service, and the atmosphere are all spot on. It’s not just an Instagram hype as some people suggest—you really get a genuine, authentic feel here. I find it quite amusing when people complain about not being able to book a table. Many restaurants don’t take bookings, and since this place is so popular, they use Catch Table to manage the flow of customers. At the end of the day, the staff are human, not robots, and they do an incredible job. They work tirelessly, are very attentive, and their service is flawless. The food was outstanding. The beef was melt-in-the-mouth tender and juicy—honestly one of the best I’ve ever had. The fried rice and grilled meats were also excellent, and the variety of side dishes was just right. It was easily one of the best dining experiences I’ve had, and I didn’t regret a single penny. I’d definitely come back and highly recommend it.

In terms of Korean charcoal BBQ, I highly recommend to visit this place. Same as many other Seoul restaurant, you need to make reservation online or using CATCHTABLE app before visiting. The black pork is a must try dish, and they will help you to grill for the first dish, and explain how to enjoy eat the meat to it best. There are 2 stores location at the same location, but please head down to the 1st store. The setup and design ambience of the restaurant is amazing, price is great too.

Seoul's best black pork grill spot, imo! The vibes are just right and the charcoal-grilled pork is divine. Green onion and anchovy sauce combo is a winner! Boonza Korean wine pairs perfectly! 🐖 🍷

Tucked in one of the alleys, you’d never know walking on the Main Street where it is. The black pork is great as everyone raves about. The server was helpful in cooking it for us the first time to show us how to properly grill it and then gave some helpful tips on how to eat it. It seems like a local place as the majority of people were Korean speaking there. Reservations are a must as the restaurant was packed the entire time we were there. They also have a self-serve ice cream at the end which was a nice little way to end the dinner.

Sancheong Charcoal Garden in Euljiro is widely celebrated for its exceptional meat quality and outstanding service. This restaurant specializes in grilled Jirisan black pork, which is a definite highlight for any meat lover. The quality of the meat here is truly top-notch. The thickly sliced pork, especially the traditional salt-grilled option, is incredibly juicy and tender, practically melting in your mouth. The rich flavor of the pork, grilled over charcoal, is simply superb. They also offer a delicious gochujang-marinated pork, which provides a delightful sweet and spicy kick. The dining experience is further enhanced by a variety of side dishes and sauces, including Sancheong mulberry salt, pollack roe ssamjang, and wasabi. Grilling the meat with green onions or dipping it in their special soybean paste with whelks adds another layer of flavor. What truly sets Sancheong Charcoal Garden apart is the remarkable friendliness and attentiveness of the staff. Despite often being busy, the employees are proactive in meeting your needs and ensure a comfortable and enjoyable dining experience. While there might be a wait, the superb food and service make it well worth it. Many patrons agree that this spot is a must-visit for anyone seeking a high-quality Korean BBQ experience in Euljiro.

This is the experience you want to have in Seoul. You may have to wait a while to get a table, actually got will wait to meet a table, but that is totally fine. You can go chill at a nearby cafe and relax before you eat. The reservation system is top notch, even as a foreigner you can use the app they say to use at the front door and see where you are at. You will want to order everything on the menu, hopefully you have the hunger for it. They take great care of the food and will take care of you with recommended ways to eat the pork.

This is a very popular BBQ place located just a few minutes walk away from Euljiro 3-ga exit 11. There is a sister branch nearby as well. Reservations through catchtable is highly recommended during peak hours. I’ve reserved around 4.30pm and the table was ready around 5.45pm. However as my group was not at the restaurant when it was our turn, the reservation was cancelled. Luckily, there were plastic seats outside the store. We waited for another two hours before we were finally able to enter. The recommended dish is 500g salted grilled black pork. It’s is really delicious!! First bite is with a little salt and second bite with grilled chives and a special sauce. They also offer other side dishes to pair as well. We also ordered the black soybean paste stew. It was a little too spicy for us and we were rather full towards the end, didn’t managed to finish it. Highly recommend!!!

A Hidden Gem for Charcoal BBQ Lovers – Truly Unforgettable! Sancheong Charcoal Garden Euljiro is a nostalgic spot that feels like a meat market set inside an old tin-roof shack — full of retro charm. While the decor is dated, the place is impressively clean, and each seat even comes with a bag to store your coat and keep it odor-free. Every table is set with a range of classic Korean side dishes — from kimchi, garlic slices, and green chili to more unique items like pickled ginseng leaves and a delicious mentaiko (pollack roe) sauce. Do note: for your first order, meat portions must match the number of diners. We were two, so we ordered 500g of their signature salted pork belly, made from prized black pork from Sancheong (near Jirisan). At first, I worried the thick fat layers might be too greasy — but wow, that fear disappeared fast. As the pork sizzled over the charcoal, the aroma was incredible. The marbling melted into juicy richness, and the meat was unbelievably tender and flavorful — not a hint of gaminess. This was hands down the best pork I’ve ever had. We also ordered a serving of Doenjang-jjigae, a classic Korean soybean paste stew. It was rich, savory, and full of deep umami flavor — a perfect comforting complement to the grilled meat. The first round of meat is grilled for you by the staff, then you take over — adding to the fun. We debated between pork belly and pork jowl for our second round… and ended up ordering more black pork. No regrets! Eating here was one of the best food experiences we had in Seoul. Highly recommended for any BBQ and meet lover!
