The 18 Essential Cape Town Restaurants

"Capetonians take their Saturday-morning market-hopping very seriously. This neighborhood market outgrew its former home at an urban farm in Oranjezicht and moved into fancy digs at the V&A Waterfront, but it retains its charm. Capetonians pop into the first tent for their weekly shopping, stocking up on fresh figs, heads of cauliflower, and a rainbow of carrots, persimmons, and chiles. When they’re done, they head to the next tent to fill up on everything from burgers to gluten-free brownies." - Mary Holland, Sarah Khan

The 22 Best Restaurants In Cape Town 2024

"Weekend brunch at the Oranjezicht City Farm Market is a rite of passage for any Cape Town first-timer. Take a lap around the entire place before making a decision on what to eat. Our favorite stalls are Sepial’s Kitchen for Korean fried chicken and rice, Golden Brown Waffles (the name is pretty self-explanatory), and The Karoo Prick, where you can pick up a bottle of locally made prickly pear gin. OZCF started as a small urban farm produce market, but despite its recent growth, you can still stock up on the freshest seasonal produce in the city." - bri cave

Amazing selection from vintage plates to plates of food. Can literally choose any type of meal. Loads of venders selling freshly made meals from breakfast to pastries. Huge selection of fresh produce. Gorgeous linen dresses, pants, tops. Mo hair jerseys. View out over the harbor and sea, or the stadium. Loads of parking in the waterfront with easy access to the market.

The place is beautiful. From the name I expected, it would only involve vegetables, food, and drinks, but there was actually a variety of items for sale, and I really enjoyed walking around and looking at everything. People were having a great time. However, the prices were a bit high, especially for handicrafts and textiles. As for the food, I didn’t buy anything to be able to judge it. The place is very easy to get to, and it only opens on weekends.

Oh, what a lovely market this was. Clean and spacious. We got there when it literally just opened on Wednesday. It started to get busy very quickly. We got some samoosa's. It was 4 for R50. We got some cheese and sweet corn. I thought it lacked flavour. Then we had an Asian cake, totally forgot what it was called. Those were nice, R50 each. Fresh products, bread, condiments, teas, and so much more available here. The ablution facilities were so clean. The lady even asked me to wait before I went in and she literally wiped down everything. I was really in disbelief of the cleanliness. I had a very pleasant experience.

I visited this farm market recently and absolutely loved it! The whole place had such a cool vibe fresh, local, and full of energy. From the moment you walk in, you're surrounded by amazing smells, live cooking, and colorful stalls. You can literally find all kinds of food, vegetables, fruits, and baked goods, all fresh and beautifully prepared, right in front of you. There are also a couple of great speciality coffee stands, perfect for grabbing your morning brew while you stroll through what feels like an old school market with a modern twist. There’s so much to shop from organic produce and handmade goods to vintage clothes, natural skincare, home décor, and artisanal treats. It is a perfect mix of a farmer's market and a lifestyle hub. It’s super family friendly, with great seating areas, music, and space to relax by the water. And yes, they’re only open on weekends, so if you're in Cape Town on a Saturday or Sunday this is a must visit spot for food lovers, shoppers, and anyone who enjoys a good weekend vibe by the sea.

If you haven’t been then you are missing out. An awesome morning or evening out. I always make sure I get here on a visit. Be ready to drop a fortune on all the treats. You definitely pay a premium to enjoy this venue but just come out and enjoy. If I lived in Cape Town I would definitely do my weekly shopping of fruit, veg, meat and treats here!!

I stayed in Cape Town for 10 days and visited this market three times! I absolutely loved it! If you’re planning a trip to Cape Town, make sure your schedule matches the days this market is open. It’s a must-visit! We especially loved the mushroom BBQ—it was incredibly tasty. Another highlight was the Khao Soi Kai inside the market. As a Thai person, I can say the flavor was just like what you’d find back home in Thailand. I highly recommend trying it! This market offers so much, especially when it comes to food. It’s one of the best markets in Cape Town, and I’ll definitely return if I ever come back. Without a doubt—yes!

Great atmosphere with so much going on. There are great places to eat, a little bit of every food. There are stores with handcrafted items like clothes, baskets, or lotions. There is a farmers market where you can buy fresh fruits and vegetables. Outdoor seating is great.
