Yelp
The hotel had a quaint, artsy, boutique feel. I was pleased by the appearance upon arrival. I wish I'd paid closer attention to the description as I was surprised that parking was $20 per night. Thankfully, we were there for one night. We ate dinner at the little place across the street. It had an eclectic vibe and the food was tasty, but pricey. They charged an automatic 20% "service fee" but then asked for a tip as well. We chalked it up to inflation and again, glad we were there only for one night. The room was fairly typical for this price point, but did have a few creative touches that we appreciated. The reason for the three stars is because we DID NOT SLEEP! A party in the room next door began at about 11pm. It wasn't unbearable and we were tired, so we let it go, thinking they'd end it within a few hours. By about 2am, they were ROCKIN'! We tried to ignore the music, laughter, and shouting, but at about 2:45am, we couldn't take it anymore. Yes, we probably should've called the front desk sooner, but I think we were just so tired and hopeful it would end...soon. The front desk seemed a bit agitated by my call and asked me specifically where the noise was coming from (which side of our room and were we sure it wasn't from the floor above). I told her I didn't know but that we'd been listening to it since 11pm and it had escalated. Could they just please come up and tell them to stop? After about 30 more minutes, the party quieted, a bit. By about 4am, they were finally mostly quiet. When we went to the front desk to check out, the gentleman asked us about our evening. I said "it was exhausting." I then explained what happened. He said he was sorry that happened. That was all he had to offer. My mom then stepped in and asked if they could offer a discount for the total lack of regard for guests who actually wanted/needed to sleep? The two men (employees) said they'd have to ask their manager because he was "in a meeting." They took my name, phone number, and email address and said they'd contact me. We assumed nothing would happen in our favor, but we were trying to stay positive, so we waited for the valet to bring our car and we left. I never received any follow-up contact from the hotel, but the final charge looks as though they may have comped the valet. The final charge for one night and zero sleep was $350+! Moral of the story is if you intend to sleep, do NOT count on it at Origin Austin by Wyndham. I guess, because we booked a room in a college town, we got what we deserved???!!! Either way, we will be in Austin for the state high school track meet, but we'll try our luck elsewhere.
