Beauty and Brine: Prince Edward Island Is an Oyster-Lover’s Paradise | Bon Appétit

"A no‑frills seaside fish shack famous for long lines and generous portions, this takeout spot serves lobster rolls so stuffed they’re described as essentially an entire lobster on a bun, with a lightly toasted buttered roll and lemony mayo. Its fish and chips are equally hearty, featuring sizeable breaded haddock portions that can easily feed more than one person, making it a quintessential casual stop for shorefront seafood cravings." - ByChantal Martineau

I can’t fault a place for being busy. When a place is good, it becomes popular, and sometimes the hype makes you question if you’re waiting in line at a tourist trap. The bottom line is, Original Richard’s is worth the wait if you’re looking for the best lobster roll in PEI. But be mindful of the time investment. We arrived at 1:17pm on a Friday. I ordered at 2:30 and we received our food at 2:45pm. We ordered a lobster roll and a lobster burger. I noticed that they could do a better job rushing orders through. One employee was working and really taking their time between each customer. The lobster in the roll is served cold on a warm buttery bun, tossed in a creamy sauce with crunches of celery and chives. Order this if you want the signature lobster roll style. The lobster burger is simply warmed lobster pieces smothered in butter. It’s delicious. Order this if you want the simpler option or if you don’t love the idea of cold and creamy lobster. The portion was reasonable, and I didn’t need more, but I expected it to be overstuffed with lobster based on other reviews I had read. Parking was $2 and steps away is a little beach segment under the bridge that you’ll drive over to get in. If you come as a group, it might be nice to take a swim while you wait, so long as someone stays behind in line. Imagine waiting in line and ordering the chicken tenders.

Original Richard’s is a great spot! The lobster roll was loaded with fresh lobster, though there was a a celery-like taste that threw me off. The fries were incredible — honestly some of the best I’ve had in PEI. Portions were fair and the staff were super friendly. Definitely worth checking out! The view is really nice too.

This was actually on my bucket list last year, but finally, I made it. It was my first time here!! Well worth the wait of nearly an hour. Wow, just wow, an experience for every lobster lover. The lobster burger definitely had my curiosity, so it happened. So yummy!! I actually had to take a pause with the lobster burger, lol....I saved eating the fries a few hours later, and it's hard to eat it all in one sitting. I'll definitely return and try something else on the menu, perhaps the lobster BLT!! Thanks again! Wonderful views on the second floor !!

The line was quite long at 6 pm on a weekday, and the wait was long; but the food was good. We got an order of the lobster roll with fries, and the scallops with salad. This was one of the better lobster rolls on our trip, and we finally got scallops that were not overcooked! The salad was more than we expected from a seaside place. The only letdown was the slaw, which isn't really why we came. We'd definitely come back!

WOW. This spot was fantastic. We travel full time and spent 3 weeks in PEI in August. Several people recommended Richard’s and the first time we went and saw the line we had to go elsewhere because our kids were starving. We planned better and got there at 4:30 PM the next time, and it took about an hour to get through the line and maybe 15-20 minutes to get our food. We got the lobster roll, lobster sandwich, and the fish n chips. All was fantastic! We LOVE seafood and have eaten it all the way up the east coast, and we agreed this was the BEST lobster roll we’ve had. Very generous portions. I don’t usually prefer a cold lobster roll but since it was their specialty I ordered it and really enjoyed it. My husband who doesn’t do mayo LOVED the butter lobster sandwich and even he was stuffed! Absolutely recommend standing in the line, it’s well worth it!

Very popular place. Considering how busy they are, food came relatively quickly. They keep things moving very well. We had time to socialize in the line. Drinks were cool. Could use an other window to sale just drinks. Lobster rolls were enormous and delicious.

After a 10-day road trip across Maine and Canada, this lobster roll was the best thing I had. It was the best lobster of the 15 different ones I tried along the way! Big portion, buttery, fluffy bread, and lobster that melts in your mouth, with a bonus: for only an extra $1, you get a huge salad to replace the delicious fries that I stole from my husband's plate! If you are in PEI, you must stop! You must enjoy the best lobster of your life 💛♥️. If life brought you there, give yourself a treat!
