Original Tommy’s Hamburgers Review - Historic Filipinotown - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Tommy’s isn’t going to win any Best Burger awards any time soon, but there’s still something magical about stopping at this classic outdoor burger window in Historic Filipinotown after a long night out. If it’s your first time, get the double chili cheeseburger with a side of fries. If it’s your 50th time, get the exact same thing and then go eat it while sitting on the sidewalk like everyone else. Expect pretty long lines after the bars get out." - Brant Cox

Tommy's world famous hamburgers is always the First Choice chili burger spot for me. Unfortunately, Tommy's isn't in my state, so I make it a point to swing by there every time I'm in California once on the way in once while I'm there once on the way out. I hope my mom doesn't read this. I've been going to Tommy since I was just a wee lad and many many many many many many years ago when I had one chin and a full head of hair, so at least 25 years now. I don't know where they get them, but those thick cut ice cold tomatoes, pickles, onions, and mustard fuse with that infamous Tommy's chill is sure to keep you going back. The first two pictures are of a Tommy's double chili burger. The second pictures are a mega combo triple cheeseburger brought back from California by my brother's Sasquatch.

It's Las Vegas, if you're not on the strip, the atmosphere can be very poor looking unless you're on the outskirts of the richer areas. Otherwise, else, Tommy's is always the place to go. I've been going there since I was a kid. In the Los Angeles area 😎

I think that Maggie might be the manager. She recognizes me on site and gives me excellent service! It is a pleasure to dine here for lunch! I almost forgot to add how gregarious that Maggie is. I see her interact with the customers and she treats me like with personal friends. She is a great ambassador in customer service for Tommy's

Google
Usually this location is good but last few times I went there it was not as good. The food was cold and the wait for the food was long. Only a little chili on the burger this time. When the short older lady is making the food it comes out good and hot with the proper amount of chili on the burgers and she is nice to me. That older lady cares about the food she is serving to the customer. This time she wasn't working there and that's why the food wasn't good.

Google
Always the best. Have been a customer since before birth. Glad they aren't a crowded mess inside like innout. They seem busy with drive thru and deliveries which is great to see. They now have bacon and grilled onions. 10/10 highly recommend

Google
The food was okay, but the chili—the restaurant's whole gimmick—didn't impress me. The service was good, though. They need a better location because this resturaunt is tucked away in a corner which is hard to get to.

Google
Always tasty. Good job on the chili cheese fries. They need to take lessons from the Beverly and Rampart location in Los Angeles. Not anywhere near as much chili as you receive at the California shops. The great taste is the same thankfully!

Google
Had troubles getting the order correct in the drive-thru. And then tried to overcharge at the window. Disappointing, I liked this place in the past. I was the only one in the drive-thru. I left without receiving order. Restaurants need to understand, when someone leaves annoyed, they don't go back for awhile. So it wasn't just this sale they lost. They're going to lose future sales from that person. This place is usually slow and I'm not sure they can afford annoying their customers. 5:15 p.m. July 8th 2025

Yelp
Ok truth be told, it's been a hard minute since my last visit! But that's on me, always wanting to but not getting around to it. Having said that, there's definitely a noticeable difference between then and today. But again, with so much time in between, it's not a tough conclusion to come to with so many different factors to consider! Not to mention, any place you go will have its off days! I thankfully can say this wasn't one! I think I read somewhere, probably long ago, this was supposed to be the "other burger joint" killer. Well, I dunno about all that but craving satisfied! I love me some chili of all styles, and this stick-to-your-gut paste hit the spot! To devour this on a regular basis, probably not wise! As a treat yourself to guilt free gluttony occasionally. Oh absolutely! I was lucky enough to miss the lunch crowd, I'm assuming. The dining room wasn't packed and I was the line in the drive thru lol! The 2 that helped were friendly and not a long wait. So keep it in mind for your next visit! Outside was pretty clean. The back drive thru area could use more frequent attention touch ups.

Yelp
I first tried Tommy's at their original location in California. The craving hit in Nevada so I thought I'd try. It was ok but it definitely missed something when it crossed the state line. The kids working were fantastic! They were friendly, efficient, and had great communication skills. Honestly that's what's saving this review. My pallet could have changed in the last couple of years. I don't normally eat chili burgers. So i will try again and see if it's me or the burger. One absolutely disappointing thing about my visit was the trash filled dirty drive thru. Honestly looked like someone dumped trash and dragged all the way through.

Yelp
After watching a movie at the Santa Fe Movie theater, I was craving a hamburger for dinner. Looking up hamburger restaurants in the area, I noticed I still hadn't had a chance to go to Original Tommy's World Famous Hamburger! This location is off of Craig/95N exit. It's in a shopping plaza. There is a drive-thru for the restaurant. We opted to go through the drive-thru. Tommy's World Famous Hamburger is known for their chili cheeseburgers. There are other options too such as a chili cheese dog, breakfast burritos with chili, chili cheese fries, and so much more! We had ordered the following Double Cheeseburger: [2] Beef patties served with the chili, beefsteak tomato, mustard, pickles, cheese, and chopped onions. [1] Plain Cheeseburger: Beef patty with cheese and pickles! There is one window for paying for the order and picking up the food. Only one vehicle was ahead of us. It was relatively slow, though. We waited about 10 minutes before going up to the window. When we reached the window, one of the team members asked for payment. The team member still had their gloves on for working with food. We saw through the window that the person who took the payment was also making and preparing the food with the same gloves on. It normally is separate people. The order took about another 15 minutes to prepare. We risked it and still ended up eating the food at our residence. The burger patty was relatively small, but the flavor was decent. The burger bun was inedible, though. It was stale and hard. The price was inexpensive for both burgers, approximately $12.00 for both burgers. I'm glad I had a chance to try out the original Tommy's World Famous Hamburger, but I don't think l I'll be revisiting in the future.

Yelp
This is greasy fast food. It is not upscale and it is not fast casual quality. I liked the breakfast sandwich but other than that, you might as well go to Burger King

Yelp
I like Tommy's burgers but I can only handle a small amount of their chili. My husband's 'go to place' for burgers and he loves their menu, so we go to get his fix often enough. It's always empty when we go but that's odd hours just to avoid the crowds. Plus this location has really scarce parking up close. I get the California burger or as my husband calls it, the 'Haole' burger. It's meat, cheese, LTP, and sauce. As a combo it comes with fries, they are cut fat and if right out of the fryer they are really crunchy and delicious. And you get a drink. My husband gets the burger with the chili, fries and then orders the tamale/chili. I'll eat about half of it because that's about how much of the chili I can get away with. It always gives me indigestion so I learned the first time I came, limited chili for me! For me just a regular burger and if you love their chili you might enjoy it more. Worthy of a try.

Yelp
Sweet workers good food I love this classic totally worth it in my opinion the prices are fair considering inflation

Yelp
Burgers are always good and especially the chili. I didn't get enough so the manager told me to return and she will assure I get what I pay for. Thank u
google avatar

Tita A.

Yelp
Not very good at all. Chilli was lukewarm warm and tasteless. Sorry, we won't be back.
google avatar

David T.

Yelp
What can I say, I have been coming to Tommy's since the days in the little shack with the long lines in Los Angeles. My favorite chili and breakfast sandwich. Luckily more Tommy's are popping up in Las Vegas
google avatar

Dave O.

Yelp
Food was hot and fresh! I had the number 1 combo! Wifwt had the number 2! Greeted by a nice young man! Took our order! Everything was delicious! Fresh and hot! Nice ambiance! Staff very accommodating! I asked for Xtra pickles on the side and it was no problem! Reminds me of my childhood in California! Well definitely be back! Thank you Tommy's staff! You all were great! Keep up the great work! A lot better than Zippys on Badura! Been coming here for years!!
google avatar

Daniel A.

Yelp
Tommy's 1/4 Double Chili Cheeseburger, Chili Cheese Fries, Chili Cheese Hot Dog, & a Diet Pepsi!

Laura R.

Yelp
Staff are very friendly, place is clean and chile cheese burger and chile cheese fries are so good. If you from Callie you know how good they are.
google avatar

Kevin R.

Yelp
Went here Nov 2022. I haven't been to this Tommy's in a few years but it's great to know they still offer the same, consistent quality of food. It's wasn't too crowded when I went. The food is still a great value and still hits the spot if you in the mood for some American food. I did have the tamal, which did hit the spot with the tomato, pickles, and chili on top. Worth a shot if you haven't tried it yet! This is not your average fast-food joint!

Yelp
I'm from California so I've been to the original Tommy's location. The fries are crispy, the chili has a smoky, cayenne, peppery taste to it. The chili is full flavored and silky at the same time. When you combine the chili and the fries with the white onions It's a great marriage but just keep in mind I'm referring to the original location. For some reason, this particular visit, the chili and the fries just doesn't taste the same. The fries were soggy and not crispy. Chili was good but it was just lacking flavor and just fell flat. Even with the onions and cheese, to be honest, it sucked. I know that's a little harsh of a review but I was super pumped to visit this Las Vegas location coming from Texas since I live in Texas now but the hype was just dull. On the other hand, the cheeseburger was great it's exactly what I expected fresh vegetables clean and crisp with a soft bun and a well seasoned beef patty. When I bit into it, the cheese flavor really comes out. I also mix the burger with the chili and it made it better.
google avatar

Vanessa T.

Yelp
Well I was going to give this place 4 stars for being clean & almost as good as In & Out until we made it to the last burger and found a PLASTIC WRAPPED SCREW IN MY BURGER?! It was wrapped in with everything, there is NO way the person preparing the food didn't see it. Came in at 5PM 5 Oct, 2022. I hope management takes care of it, because it is a serious sanitary issue. Not to mention somebody could have gotten hurt! I NEARLY bit into a SCREW. Ridiculous behavior. We will not return, and I want my $25 back.
google avatar

Michelle T.

Yelp
I've ate here a few times and overall they make a good chili burger. I like their thick fries and they're always fresh, the employees are friendly and there's never a long wait in the drive thru. Pricing seems about average now and days for a good burger combo but they could use more variety on their menu.
google avatar

Stephanie Z.

Yelp
I always enjoy your greasy burgers and chili cheese fries but I feel like they are now adding less chili to the burgers... otherwise it is what it is still good
google avatar

Gregory C.

Yelp
Exactly what I expected from Tommy's. It just sounds good when you're ready to have it. If you've never had it, give it a try, chili cheese fries are awesome
google avatar

Lorena H.

Yelp
Just like I remember in LA. I was near Tommy's and decided to stop and get some chili cheese, fries and a chili cheese burger. It did not disappoint and was the same as I used to eat many years ago in LA. I wish there was a location closer to my house, but one can hope. It left me craving more and I was tempted to go again the next day. Some thing about that chili is so delicious.

Leslie S.

Yelp
love this place! Service was awesome, so happy it's here and don't have to drive all the way to California just to enjoy a good burger
google avatar

Stephen G.

Yelp
Cheeseburger was fresh. Like an in and out. Cheese less salty. Fresh ingredients. Good burger for this style of burger. French fries crispy but soft inside. Heinz ketchup (sorry you hunts people and third party food service brands) pepsi products. I ordered a water but not thinking I filled it wit root beer. I could have poured it out and wasted it and filled with Easter, but it was done. Come after me and I'll remove my review:)
google avatar

Rainier C.

Yelp
We were afraid that it may not compare to the Orig Tommy's in LA but this branch in Craig and Tenaya Wy pulled thru. This has always been our chili burger joint ever since. Always look for The Shack!!! The double qtr burger and chili cheese fries (chili cheese on the side) never fails us.
google avatar

Tim S.

Yelp
Great burger. Eat with chili peppers. I prefer no cheese chili burger. Yummy. If you are an in n out fan this is better. Fatburger is also amazing. Best chili burger and chili dogs. Coney style.
google avatar

Justin B.

Yelp
First (and last) time for my family, and we weren't impressed. My wife and daughter had the "California Classic" burger combo, and I had the single chili cheeseburger combo. Pros * Thick fries ...and that's about it. Cons * Both my wife and daughter referred to the "California Classic" burger as "meh". * The flavor of the chili, pickles and onions completely overpowered the burger for me. You could have removed the burger patty and it wouldn't have tasted any different. * The chili has a decent spice level for me, but it tastes canned, and the consistency is that of a thick paste. My wife tried some that fell out of my burger and described it as "horrid." I did some digging and found that it's a "tomato-less chili con carne, that's ... thickened with flour to create a creamy, thick chili sauce" (via foodisafourletterword.com). Creamy and thick? Definitely. What I like to eat? Definitely not.
google avatar

Jeffrey A.

Yelp
It's Tommy's. It's a bit out of the way. The food is good, the service quick. Good stuff.

James W.

Yelp
I am from L.A and I have eaten Tommy's for years and here in Henderson NV the food is TERRIBLE. I ordered their famous chili cheese fries and got regular cheese fries with two slices of cheese, not shredded cheese.
google avatar

John S.

Yelp
The chilli cheeseburger is so good with a perfect amount of chilli. The people there are very nice also with good service.
google avatar

Becky B.

Yelp
I was excited when I drove by and saw Tommy's. I grew up on it in CA and I felt like there was a piece of home here. Plus having a go-to place for chili cheese fries is always a good thing! Everything tasted exactly like I remember, messy but yummy!
google avatar

Leisyka P.

Yelp
We thought we'd try something new. This place is awful. I got food poisoning. We didn't get what we ordered and it took FOREVER to get our order. DO NOT go here.
google avatar

Artin A.

Yelp
I wish I could give a review but I just sat in the drive through for 25 minutes and the line never moved. I thought the place was being robbed or something. People just gave up and got out of line. I'm not sure if the staff called out that night or if the management isn't putting enough people on the line but Saturday night is not the time for a small staff. I have been to at least 10 Tommy's and this is not tue best store. Get it together guys. I want to come back.
google avatar

Jason A.

Yelp
Born and raised in LA, I've been going to Tommy's since I was a kid, the chili cheese burger still hits perfectly, skip the diet for one day and get the chili fries too, you won't regret it. I wouldn't want to spend my calories anywhere else!!!

FD C.

Yelp
So bad but oh so good. Dropped in and grab chili cheese fries own special . Always clean and attentive staff. Remembered early mornings after hours and the Beverly LA location. Good times!

Angela G.

Yelp
We got the cheeseburger with chili cheese fries. Had one bite and spit it out. Food was disgusting.

Yelp
5/27/21 - Vaya con dios, Tommy's ... it's time to say goodbye. After many good years and many good burgers, the last craving was a sad state of affairs. Maybe the company needs to be reminded... or maybe it's just the state of society that just lets the de-evolution happen. The essence of the Tommy Burger has been lost ... maybe it's the overpaid CEO's or maybe the underpaid workers, who knows?? But when you can't manage the 3 simple "ORIGINAL" essential ingredients that make your customers crave your product, the big juicy beef patty, the awesome heaping helping of tasty chili, and the giant tomato slice on top, is it SO difficult to mess that up?? .. I should also mention the sad LIMP soggy fries ... I guess you just don't care ... Anyway, buh-bye Tommy's, I'll miss ya
google avatar

Jake W.

Yelp
No military or first responder discounts so I'm definitely not coming back here because everybody else around here does support our hard workers and essential workers. The food is pretty expensive for what you're getting also and the quality is pretty much average but filling non the less. Be advised that the drive through is Narrow as all GetOut!!!! Smaller vehicles are ok but just go slow after you get your food because it's pretty much an engineering SNAFU! Cheers
google avatar

Judy A.

Yelp
I normally love Tommy's Burgers because I would visit various Tommy's in Southern California. The location in Las Vegas at Craig and the 95 was awful. They say the burger is a quarter pounder but it is not! This burger was thin and dry. Also the chili was cold and coagulated. It was a disappointment compared to the California locations. The chili dog was good but again the chili was cold. Tommy's Corporate office needs to focus on uniform quality. I will not visit this location again.

Lyell C.

Yelp
I have ordered from them several times. They have great burgers and chili. However, today they missed the mark. I asked for pickles and onions on the side. Additionally, I asked for utensils but today received my order with no pickles, onions, utensils, or even napkins. I'd recommend their food highly, but if you order delivery you may not get your food they way you asked for it.
google avatar

Tom K.

Yelp
Normally I like this place well enough. But this last visit to the saint rose pky. Location left a lot to be desired. I like my fries crispy. Even if I get chilli fries. The ones I got on my last visit were off. As I ate them and. The chilli got lower I saw what was going on. The fries were. Double cooked. I think they took fries that they had made and didn't sell and put them back in the grease. By the time I saw I think it was to late to say anything. The burger was ok enough I went here cuz it was close. But next time I want to have a chili cheese burger. I might re think this locap
google avatar

Ellie N.

Yelp
Not great. We didn't order chili in it but when we got home, we decided to just eat it. I felt gross afterwards. The sandwich was so soggy from all the chili and we just ended up having a heartburn from it. The fries were good though.

Jewell G.

Yelp
This is why we only buy the chili. We ordered a meal that was 9.50, and asked for chili and cheese on the fries, which I'm sure is usual considering that it's a chili place, and a chili dog. They charged for everything separately, including our drinks, and we ended up pay over 21$ for it. I'm sure we were overcharged by at least 3-4$. You should really be ashamed of yourself
google avatar

Allen M.

Yelp
I would have to say this time was really great. Compared to the last time I was in before COVID-19 hit. I ordered a double cheese and chili burger and a order of chili cheese fries. I had ordered a extra order of regular fries but there was lots of fries and the two scoops of chili on the chili cheese fries made a big difference. That is the way I remember Tommy's in Los Angeles from the 90's. I will definitely be back to enjoy another meal.
google avatar

Rob C.

Yelp
This has to be the worst experience in my life .. the chilli cheese fries look like shit, my burger tastes like shit ... wtf .. I don't know if if the chilli has been sitting at their spot for 2 weeks but holly geezzz it sucks dog balls .
google avatar

Paige L.

Yelp
This was honestly the worst food I have ever ate. Way over priced for the taste and quality of the food. The cheese wasn't melted and my burger was cold. And the fries were soggy. Even the drink were gross. We couldn't even finish it we threw it right away
google avatar

Michael M.

Yelp
This location for some reason doesn't taste nearly as good as the ones I grew up near in Los Angeles. They even forgot one of our burgers and a drink. Probably a skip next time.
google avatar

Dan D.

Yelp
I had heard of Tommy's from a fellow customer at a food truck in MN. He nearly started drooling just telling me about it. I found myself in Vegas and my brother said we had to go. He was a previous customer and he was anxious to take me there. We each ordered chili cheeseburgers and chili fries. He was humming with delight as he ate his food. I enjoyed the burger and fries but decided about 1/4 in that the chili fries were a mistake for me. I found with chili on both items that I felt each item lacked unique flavor independently. The food was good but next time I will limit the chili to a single food item.

Talia T.

Yelp
Let me just say, this is not it I was debating trying it already after the pics, but gave it the benefit of the doubt and tried it. The chili was flavorless and honestly just gross. I regretted my decision after the first bite all in all if you been a well popular fast food chain since 1946 you think it would be decent ‍
google avatar

Michael N.

Yelp
So the food they sling and bank on the fact you'll get hooked when you have your first bite is one heart attack from a triple by pass... and??? They make no apology that their food is about 500 calories... PER BITE! And I dig that! Meat, chili, and carbs... this is the place if you're into that kind of indulgence. Giddy up! 4 stars for the food, minus 1 star for the health factor.
google avatar

Daniel E.

Yelp
First time there tonight but never again. They put chili on everything, which probably would not be so bad except the chili was cold. It was not lukewarm, room temperature. Two bites and I tossed it out.
google avatar

Porter S.

Yelp
Simply put, too greasy for my tastes. My wife and I were the ONLY customers in line. I asked for my hamburger to be served with no tomatoes , and no pickles. Yup, served with pickles and tomatoes. All though the meal left me full, I have had much better hamburgers, and much better service.
google avatar

Rob K.

Yelp
Finally made it out to this location. Same amazing food with same amazing staff. This place is a must every time I make it out to Vegas. This place is really reserved for those who know anything about the LA food scene back in the day. I usually get the triple burger with fries with all the fixings. My plan is to usually eat here for lunch since I'm unlikely to be eating dinner. If you're in the Vegas or LA area I'd recommend Tommy's to anyone. As usual, the people I take with me often are the ones to complain the most but end up picking off most of my food. Thanks again Tommy's for a great meal!
