"According to the SF Chronicle, historic Italian restaurant Original U.S in North Beach has closed. Co-owner Alberto Cipollina says the closure is partially due to the pandemic (staffing has been a challenge, the restaurant couldn’t get a parklet, etc.) and also because at 77 he’s ready to retire." - Lauren Saria

"E’ Tutto Qua is closing after nearly 13 years of spinning Roman-style pizza and pasta from a popular corner of North Beach. It was a favorite of their former restaurant critic Michael Bauer, who wrote a couple of years back, the “service has a familial quality” and the “pastas truly star here.” E’ Tutto Qua also ranked high on Tripadvisor, making it a popular stop for tourists." - Becky Duffett

Authentic Italian family restaurant at its best! Nothing was left on our plates. Homemade pasta, fabulous pizza, fresh salads, delicious gnocchi & sole fish. Attentive server & old world charm.

Fantastic food. Our party each tried the others dishes and everything we had was phenomenal. The chicken parmesan was very tender and delicious. If you're in the area please stop in.

Love this place. A must every time we come to San Francisco. Staff is always friendly and attentive. Food is delicious. One of my favorite plates is the pappardelli a la boscaiola with fresh made pasta. Not too expensive compared to other restaurants around.

Good food and great service. The restaurant is based in an old building. The ceiling has the great painting which is incredible. Very Italian delicious food even in little Italy.

Original U.S. Restaurant is a wonderful experience--both for its food and service. This is a real, old-school Italian restaurant set in the heart of in North Beach, the heart of San Francisco’s Italian neighborhood. I have been going to this restaurant since I was a kid and its menu continues to feature classic U.S. Restaurant Italian dishes plus family recipes from Sicily. This week we held our office Christmas Holiday Party at the Original U.S. Restaurant (which stands for “Unione Sportiva” after the fact that the restaurant used to feed SF’s Italian American athletic clubs in the late 19th century). The food is as great as ever, the wine selection from both Italy and California was wonderful, and the friendly, loving service makes you feel like you are eating at someone’s home. It was an honor to be greeted by one of the owners, San Francisco Giants executive Mario Alioto, who came by to say hello to our table. The Alioto family and a member of the restaurant’s founding family, Alberto Cipollina, own the place. If you want to eat great homemade Italian food in a traditional San Francisco restaurant this is the place to come to. And the food is reasonably priced and the portions are hearty. Our group was especially fond of the following dishes that I list below: I have to put in a special word for the Chicken Milanese, homemade grilled Sicilian pork sausages, Gnocchi in pistachio cream sauce, and the Spaghetti alla Carbonara. Simply great! Pasta Spaghetti alla Carbonara (pancetta, eggs, and parmigiano) Ravioli Bolognese (meat filled ravioli in meat sauce) Gnocchi al Pistacchio (homemade dumplings in pistachio cream sauce) Fish/Pesce Petrale Sole Piccata Chicken/Polo Chicken Milanese Meat/Carne Veal Marsala Veal Piccata Salsiccia alla Griglia (homemade grilled Sicilian pork sausages) Desserts Tiramisu Cannoli Siciliani Enjoy!

This is our second time there and we have always been treated nice. Waiters are very helpful. Went there with no reservations and we got a table. Food is delicious! Small place but very romantic.

Yelp
I ate at Original US Restaurant with my mother and my grandmother a real long time ago back when it was in business in San Francisco's Little Italy AKA North Beach neighborhood. The food was delicious, but it tasted different than the food that was served at Caesar's Restaurant which was located on Bay Street in the past. It's now been replaced as Original Joe's and I've never ever seen the menu for it before on their website lately. My family, my friends and I are all native San Franciscans of Italian American descent even though this neighborhood is part of our heritage. I wonder what replaced Caesar's Restaurant as we know it today. R.I.P. Luigi, we'll miss you and your politeness forever. You should try the food at Original Joe's. It's delicious and very fresh. Ciao, LOL!
