Yelp
My family of four arrived Sunday afternoon during the tail end of the lunch rush. There was a line of maybe four families before us but plenty of tables open that workers were busily clearing off. The restaurant is a counter service style place where you order before sitting down. There is a section to the side for full service near the bar.
Our experience was a mixed bag...it just recently opened so I was expecting some hiccups. Some parts were great. Others, "meh" and some "WHY" moments.
With toddler and a five year old in tow, counter service can get dicey if the wait times are long and they get antsy, but luckily the line moved very quickly. There were no menus to hold and look through, but they had backlit displays of their menus over the checkout area. I could not read any of it since my eyes are so bad, but I was able to use my camera on my phone to zoom in and see the menu. Convenient? Definitely not, but so many places are doing away with physical menus so you adapt and learn. A QR code to scan with a link to the menu as you walk in would be LOADS easier and give me more time to make a decision in linie, too, especially for those newer to the establishment.
Service: We stood by one of the tables after ordering and holding our cups, food pager, and holding our kids while waiting for tables to be bussed. We asked two workers to clear our table for us and were ignored. They were going down the line in order, I suppose, and we were too far away. I prefer not to sit in the middle areas since my kids tend to tip out of chairs and being near walls is just easier with tables or a booth. We went to the bar area and asked the bartender to help clear a booth for us in that area and she helped us immediately. She cleared the table and wiped it down with a towel. She also wiped down the booth backs and seats with the same towel.
When my husband went to pick up the food after our pager went off, only the adult orders were ready. He brought those back to our table and was told they would bring over the rest to us when it was done. My youngest tipped over his covered styrofoam cup, the lid popped off and the water spilled all over the table. A waiter came by and placed the kids' food on top of the spilled water as I was trying to clean it. He left. Maybe he didn't see the whole cups' worth of water on the table spreading everywhere. I went and got more napkins from the one-napkin-at-a-time dispenser to clean the mess, wiped the bottom of the kids' plates off and went to feed them. We had been sitting for less than ten mins, including the time it took for them to clean a table for us, by the time our food came out - so super fast food arrival for a sit down restaurant.
The bartenders (3 different people) came by our booth to check on us regularly and even refilled my drink for me. The cleared the plates for the adults while we waited for the kids to finish their meals. They were super attentive to the people in their area at the tables even though their bar area was also full of patrons. I would definitely recommend sitting in the bar area if possible. Service on this side 5/5 for sure. 1/5 on the other side.
Food: the kids meals (we got one fried shrimp and one chicken strips) were super delicious. 5/5 Crispy, juicy, huge portion for a child on both plates, and lots of fries. Not too much seasoning but not bland either. We ordered crawfish etouffee (large) and a fried catfish and shrimp combo to share. The kids' food tasted hot and fresh and ours was lukewarm at best. The sauce for the etouffee was super salty, but had a ton of crawfish tails and lots of rice. The toast helped tone down the saltiness a bit. The butterfly shrimp wasnt bad but the kids' fried shrimp was wayyy better. The fried catfish was nice and flaky, juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. Texture wise it was great, but, again, it was slightly salty. But it could have been leftover saltiness from the etouffee. Ample fries with our order, large pieces of fish, and a good amount of butterfly fried shrimp. Etouffee 3/5, fried seafood combo 4/5. Our meal came out to be around $55 before tip.
They have free kids meals with a $7 adult purchase on Wednesdays. The kids meals were great and both kids loved them. These meals and the bartenders were enough to convince me to try this place again...some time in the future - for kids' meals...and try something new for the adults. I will update my review on our next visit and hope for a better overall experience.
