On the Grid : Orpheus Brewing

"With all the breweries popping up around town, Orpheus brings a unique and interesting spin on craft beer. Their two staple brews, Atalanta and Lyric Ale, are both saisons; the first, a tart plum concoction, and the second, a Farmhouse Ale style. The remainder of their draft list boasts everything from sours to imperial stouts. Named after the legendary poet and musician in Greek mythology, Orpheus Brewing is located smack-dab in the heart of Atlanta, where the BeltLine and Piedmont Park adjoin. This little hidden gem is perfect when the weather is nice...park your bike and grab a table on their idyllic outdoor patio that overlooks a section of the park. Beyond their creative beers, Orpheus stands out with the designs on their cans from local artists Brandon Sadler and Peter Ferrari. If you want something new and different, stop by and try their brews!" - Dear Elouise

Orpheus Brewing - Review - Midtown - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"No Greek tragedies here. The founder and brewmaster at Orpheus is also a classically trained musician, which explains the brewery’s moniker. Founded in Midtown in 2014, Orpheus Brewing answered Atlanta’s craving for high-gravity IPAs, stouts, and wild-fermented and sour beers. Orpheus is justly credited for helping to introduce Atlanta to popular European beer styles. The acclaimed Transmigration of Soul’s Double IPA, Atalanta Plum Saison, and numerous other varietals are served in the remodeled taproom (and in numerous retail outlets throughout Georgia and beyond). Located just off the BeltLine and with a steady rotation of food trucks and guest chefs, Orpheus is one of the city’s must-visit destinations." - Ale Sharpton

I came on a Saturday night and it wasn't over crowded. There were two huge events in Atlanta that may have had the crowds instead. I loved the space with lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Two distinct outdoor vibes with a lighted patio/parking lot and a tiered patio overlooking the trees/park. They have a TON of beer on their menu. They had 6 in the sour section alone, which I appreciate. I got the rainbow serpent sour and it was great. Would definitely come back.

Google
There were plenty of tables available both inside and outside on the last Saturday in July at 8:30 pm. They converted their parking lot into outdoor seating with café lighting and it looks amazing. They have more outdoor seating on patios on the side of the building. They serve food, but you can bring in food from other restaurants. Orpheus has a lot of beers on draft, but they’re known for their sours. I tried the Birds of Fire, Over & Over & Over, and Lyrical: Galaxy/Hallertau Blanc. Everyone liked their beer, but personally, I haven’t found a beer there that I’m super excited about. I’ll come back because it’s a great location, they have great outdoor seating, and I really do want to find something I like.

Google
Two stars and only because one sweet bartender. Beer was fine. Good place for ales and sour beers. But we were looked at like idiots (by another bartender) when we asked for flights (with the law change, they can now offer more traditional offerings but apparently not flights) so that was weird. They also said they couldn’t sell us a glass “because they are using them for customers” (we asked at the gift stand) What a joke! This just kind of blew the Friday night. The tables are weirdly close and the atmosphere feels like a meat locker. Wanted to like this place.

Google
Great micro brewery that specializes in sour beers. I’m not a big sour beer person, and found a beer that was very good and not bitter. Tasting room is not that big but sports a large projection TV, background music, board games, a view of the production area, tours and the obligatory gift stop with everything Orpheus. Outside there is a splendid deck. It’s a little hard to find but worth the effort....plenty of parking available. Dog friendly and food can be bought in or purchased when food trucks are scheduled. Today they were sponsoring Hungry for Education and offered a discount on their beers to all teachers. This appears to be a favorite place for the under 30 crowd.

Google
Tried this place yesterday for the first time and it was a blast. This is a sours brewery so they have an amazing selection of sours. Definitely one of my favorite sour breweries now. There’s tons of seating inside with board games, a projector showing movies and TV shows on the wall, and even merch on the side. There’s snack and a food truck that comes around on Fridays for food. Even better though is the porch! It has a view of piedmont park and cute hanging lights at night. If you like sours, definitely check this place out. It’s also cheap and the service is super friendly! Side note: their electronic menu has little barrels that show you how much of that particular beer they have left in stock. It’s very cool.

Google
Great location for a fantastic brewery. This is great place to visit after a walk in Piedmont Park and/or a visit to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. The taproom has a nice indoor and outdoor space. The food stand out front had a nice selection. The outdoor deck was especially nice. Staff was friendly.

Google
This Brewery has some of the best sours that I've tasted. Atalanta is one of my favorite local Brews. I like the small quaint atmosphere, and they really know what they're doing in those barrels.

Google
Great place to get some tasty beer! They’ve done a great job moving their taste room outside. Some tables have mini fire places to keep you warm on a cold day. Amazing staff that is kind and friendly.

Yelp
Several years ago Steve went to Orpheus Brewing while on a "solo trip". I was attending to other matters and didn't get to go but he praised the beers here at Orpheus and really was taken by a fig beer that they had. I eventually got my turn to try Orpheus and was very highly impressed with their Atalanta beer which is a tart plumb saison. Flavor features with this saison is some plum, tart, sour and sweet all combined together to make a very creative, experimental and far from boring beer. I found out later that the taproom for Orpheus closed and was sad to see that. But the brewery apparently still exists in some form on the Bewana website where they have some of their beer for sale in cans. The only trick with that in order to get it is living in an area that can ship it to you. Sometimes it's not all that easy to have beer shipped to you throughout the country.

Yelp
On our last day in Atlanta, we stopped by Orpheus Brewing. The vibe of this brewery is pretty interesting. There was a good amount of people there but it wasn't crowded, and it wasn't loud. The place felt like a coffee shop except they serve beer. They've got a great selection of IPAs, sours, and stouts though. My husband and I spent a few hours here enjoying a few rounds of beers and playing board games. We would have stuck around longer, but we had a flight to catch. It was a nice place to kick back and chill for sure. They are also dog friendly which gets them bonus points from me.

Yelp
Orpheus is Closing and I am bereft. Many of you know, we love beer and food. I was introduced to Orpheus in 2016. We have not missed an Anniversary celebration in that time. We became members of the Stacks Membership last year which is in its second year. You have until Sunday 4/23 to visit this brewery and try some of their amazing barrel aged products. Once they are gone, they are GONE. ALL OF OUR BEST WISHES to Jason and Leslie and the entire brewery personnel. You done good. We will forever remember you.

Yelp
Cozy ambiance, great beer. The service is fast. They have done board games inside. They have indoor and outdoor seating.

Yelp
Good beer, but literally the worst bartender. In town on business, came in for stouts, seemed to have more to offer than any other brewery around. Beer actually good. This guy working the bar has one priority and that is getting out. No effort to offer you a beer let alone suggest anything, actually don't think he said a word, to me or any other patron, biggest concern seemed to be collecting menus and payment, both times. Very effective, no desire for me to stay, byeeee! Sadly a stain on an otherwise decent beer experience. Also never seen anyone squirt windex up inside a beer tap before?
google avatar

Yelp
Love the outdoor seating. Been here 3 times. The first 2 times I got a beer (can't remember which). Second time came with friends. Didn't drink but we got pizza from down the street that we were able to eat there. The pizza was mad good! This spot is right on the beltline

Yelp
Tucked away in a neighborhood you'll find Orpheus. We stood there at the counter for a while because it was kind of difficult to make our flight choices because their sours are so different from others. Luckily, we had some help from the CEO, Jason who was behind the bar while we were there. Can't get better help than from the brewmaster. We talked together about their brewery and the beers and when he overheard us talking about it being Ben's birthday, he was a badass and handed over our flight and said, "this one is on me, happy birthday". Talk about great customer service! We sat there sipping on the sours, trying to see if we picked up on all the difficult flavor profiles they had for some time and they were all very good and interesting. It was fun chatting about everything as we ended our night and visit in Atlanta. On our flight we had Nothing Left Behind, Coffee Minotaur, Transmigration of Souls, Over & Over and Whispers And Shadows. This is a stop we will be back for!

Yelp
I really like the beer at Orpheus, but it may not be my favorite brewery vibe in Atlanta. Overall, they were accommodating to my friend's birthday party - nearly taking over the back area and being very loud! The service is good. It's a great stop before or after a walk around Piedmont Park. P.S. try a barleywine here!

Yelp
Made a pit stop when exploring ATL to visit this local brewery after a day at the Botanical Gardens. Orpheus ended up being a great hideout to weather the crazy thunderstorms! Pros: - Great Location, right off the beltline + near Piedmont Park. - Solid craft beer with fun names, especially their sours. - Can order samples, 4oz, 8oz, 11oz and larger for most beers. Cons: - Staff were extremely slow and didn't seem to care how long it took to serve. - Long lines / crowds on a Saturday. - Couldn't take advantage of their outdoor seating because of the sudden rain.

Yelp
I've had there beer many times, but finally got around to going to the actual brewery with my mentor who was visiting from out of town. We sat at the bar and asked the very informative bartender what offerings they had that were limited edition, or at least only available at the brewery. They had plenty. They were kind enough to pour a few tasters before we committed to a pint. I tried a couple high ABV porters/stouts and a few light, tart, and sour goses. I didn't have a beer I didn't like. We sat and hung out just before trivia got started (a weekly event). Each of us had two beers, half pours to try more things. The staff was very chill and you can grab some craft cans to go if you like.

Yelp
If you're looking for a good local beer in the Atlanta area, skip Orpheus. We walked for 45 minutes to get to their out of the way location to find out that a lot of their beers were $4 per 4 oz pours. We ponied up for an 8 oz Doughnut Revolution and 8oz of 2018 Ferrymen. Both were tasty, but not tasty enough for a second round at that price. The view was wonderful, but I won't be coming back. Sorry, Orpheus!

Yelp
Loved this spot! The beer is here quite good but I think the best part is the outdoor space and tiered seating structure. Sitting practically in Piedmont Park, this brewery is a prime location for feeling like you're outside the city to enjoy a solid beer. We did several four ounce tasters to get a feel for the different types of available options and liked pretty much everything. There is beer for everyone's tastes, like lagers and pilsners, IPAs, and sours. I don't usually love sours but tried a couple because they have an extensive collection and really enjoyed the ones with vanilla flavor notes. They were so well-balanced and not extremely tart like some sours. Sitting outside was a pleasant experience and the service was also quite good.

Yelp
Do yourself a favor! If you're in the vicinity, come here. Fantastic selection. Ordered their IPA the 'Transmigration of Souls,' best IPA I've ever had in my entire life. I love IPA's most of all so stuck with this but met another fellow out-of-town traveler recommending a Porter. I'm pretty sure you cannot go wrong here. Not to mention the balcony views of Piedmont Park etc are nice!
google avatar

Jeremy B.

Yelp
This is definitely a cool spot for grabbing a locally brewed IPA . They have a variety of unique beers . They collaborated with the local revolution doughnut shop to create some very cool flavored IPAs. Also on the weekends they have some great chefs that pop in to whip up some delicious meals for you to grub on. We got to enjoy Chef Kimbella's Parmesan wings. Definitely a great chef's who's food is a must try. I'll certainly be back since they have a big outdoor area for seating.

Yelp
When searching for breweries to visit in Atlanta, this one seemed to be one of the more popular ones in the path of things I was doing. Sours - check. Saisons - check. Stouts(and possibly one of the best ones I've ever had) - check. IPAs - check. One or two things keep me from giving them a flawless 5 stars but I liked the place so much that I went back the next day. I'll start with the minor annoyance. There's a lot of space in front of the building. There's a lot of space inside the building. There's also a patio of sorts outside. It appeared that the patio isn't for the brewery at all. There is a sign posted that says "For residents only"(Orpheus is connected to a building of apartments/condos/some type of homes). Maybe I have it all wrong and that sign wasn't for the outside patio but the fact that there is a sign pointing that out is enough to not make me want to stick around for hours and hours. Others have pointed out the parking situation. They have a small lot. They also have a sign that points to this other lot down the street. Once in that lot, there aren't any clear signs on where you can park and since that lot is shared with the apartment/condo/home community, I wasn't taking any chances on a tow. If they don't share their patio, I'm sure parking would leave little error for parking in the wrong spot. The rest is street parking. I didn't have an issue either time I visited. The 2nd day I visited (Sunday), there was a food truck in the parking lot and they had the rest of the lot blocked off. That seemed odd. I found parking but I think results may vary depending on what time of day you visit. Be prepared to search. Like the other breweries in Atlanta, you could order different sized pours. Unfortunately, you can't do flights on the weekend but you can order two (2 or 5 oz) pours at a time. Perfect! Thanks for giving me the chance to try a variety of things. The beer elevates this place. I tried quite a few things in the two days I visited and I still didn't get to try everything. Here's the rundown. -- After the Last Death - 6.5% Sour - Not as good as the BA but you could definitely stick to this for a night. -- BA After the Last Death - 9% Sour. Cherries/Currants - Aged in barrels over cherries. This is an amazing beer. They had it on tap the first day I was there. They ran out the next day but still had it available in bottles. -- Noise and Flesh - 4.4% Wild Ale - This beer had the right amount of funk but it was too dry for me. It presented itself more like a dry wine or flavorless cider. -- Stouts all the way down volume 2 - 12.5% - This was just okay. Nothing to rave about here. -- STOUTS ALL THE WAY DOWN VOLUME 3 - 12.8% - This could easily be my favorite beer ever! Peanuts! Wow! This beer tasted exactly like a hot fudge sundae! I couldn't stop drinking it! This brewery could make a living from this stout alone. -- Stouts all the way down volume 5 - 12.8% - This one was better than volume 2 but it comes nowhere close to volume 3. -- Sykophantes - 7.5% Sour - Figs. I didn't know a fig beer could be sour. In love. This was easily my favorite mid-range sour there. -- Wandering Blues - 6% Sour - Blueberry yum-yum. -- Rooted - 12% Spiced/Herbed beer - I'm not sure if I've ever had a boozy spiced beer with such a high abv. The first few drinks are delicious but you don't need much. You quickly realize that spiced beers and high abvs don't go well together. Order one of the smaller ounces to see if you like it. -- The Minotaur - 8% Sour - Aged in rye barrels. This didn't have flavor notes. The biggest standout was that it was aged in rye barrels. I see plenty of barrel aged and kettle sours. I don't come across sours aged in rye barrels as often. If you're a beer person at all, I think Orpheus is a must while you're in Atlanta. They have variety and plenty of it. They have plenty of employees on hand to keep the lines moving and check you out. Both times I was there, Bob's Burgers was playing on the projector. Besides what could be a potential parking annoyance and what seemed to be the resident-members-only patio... I have zero bad things to say about this place. Run there... don't walk!
google avatar

Donna B.

Yelp
So far the serve has been terribly slow. I'm going to assume they were training someone new. However, as a person who enjoys a brewery vibe. It was a disappointment to walk in and not be acknowledged even with a quick smile. I enjoy stouts, so I thought I given them a try. The 2018 Ferryman started of strong but has a coffee grind finish. Not great. The redeeming beer was The Failure of Light. The staff sauntered around as if no one was in the place. I would not recommend a visit. Truly disappointed.

Frederick D.

Yelp
During our first visit we came when a large art fair and gathering was going on and while we stood in line we just couldn't handle the wait with our toddler. We came back our second time half way through a 1.7 mile walk from 10th street, having sojourned through Piedmont Park, we were thirsty. We picked up a four pack of their Elusory IPA which is probably the best IPA I've had in Atlanta. Can't wait to try their other beer when they open up post-pandemic.

Yelp
Orpheus offers quite an assortment of excellent, barrel-aged brews.

Yelp
Got to come here early fall when the weather was beautiful and enjoy the lovely patio by the park. Super place for a date or a casual hangout with friends. Something for everyone to drink! I'm a sour beer lover and I thought the few options I tried were all amaaaazzzing. Will definitely be back!
google avatar

Ecil D.

Yelp
Great sours and customer service from management. Had an issue that was resolved promptly with a nice surprise! The beers are great, love the pineapple vanilla sour. Hope they also get better food options in the future! Back room was great, artwork interesting!
google avatar

Victor L.

Yelp
Good selection of beer but the service is just off. I felt like there was only one person working there and he definitely did not want to be there. No food either despite the Georgia/Alabama game happening! We asked recommendations about the beer as we had never had this brewing company and our response was a one worded answer. Of note, there is ample parking and a large outdoor area if it ever gets busy. Each outdoor table seems to have an individual fire/heater device to keep patrons warm.

Yelp
I love coming to Orpheus. Located in a quiet part of piedmont park I think this is one of the best places to grab a beer and some food with friends. I loved their Atlanta dog - literally incredible with lemon pepper Buffalo sauce and ranch! All of their meat is humane from the spotted trotted and they have vegan options as well. So many delicious beers to try that are always rotating but I love Orpheus!
google avatar

Yelp
Orpheus is a great hang for good vibes and better beer near Piedmont Park. I am not usually the biggest fan of breweries, but I have found myself going back to Orpheus again and again over the past several years, because of its good selection and relaxed atmosphere. Unlike a lot of breweries that focus more on a extended beer experience, Orpheus keeps it simple and allows you to get just one beer, making it a perfect option for a quick weeknight drink. We stopped in on a Thursday evening, and sat on their elevated patio with great views of the park. Make sure to try their famed Transmigration of Souls, a strongly alcoholic but surprisingly drinkable beer with a great taste.
google avatar

Yelp
Taking name from a Greek prophet and musician, on the edge of piedmont park, sits this pleasant little addition to Atlanta's beer culture. Is it a certain kind of person that likes sour beers? What are they like? Do they have something in common? Those existential questions kept replaying in my head as I really made an effort to like sour beers here and observed the crowd. As others noted, this is the place to go for sours and there are few other beer selections. Despite trying very, very hard to find something to like about the sours, I couldn't. With that said, it would be unfair for that to impact my rating in any way. What I have discovered is a really amazing barley wine style beer here that is simply phenomenal. The Pilsner wasn't bad either, an unusual take on a classic. The vibe is cozy. There is a glass window overlooking beer canisters. There are plenty of folks on a Sunday evening chilling and saying their goodbyes to the weekend. The patio overlooks some menacing looking apartment buildings and a small park below. The patio is a break from the cozyness of the interior, instead providing some views of depressing architecture, road noise and a bit of nature. The people working, just like at most breweries, are chill and generally seem content with being there. Quick to pour and knowledgeable on the selections. The specialization of this place deserves respect and it appears to be a haven for lovers of sour beers. Thus, our Atlanta beer culture deserves places like this, which truly do create a craft like no other.

Yelp
#2 and 10 are for the ones who don't like beers! They're sweet and #2 is especially good

Yelp
Orpheus came recommended to me by multiple people when I asked for tips on where to visit while in town, so I checked it out last weekend. As a sour lover, there is such an abundance of choice with quite a bit of variety within just that category. Even my friend who doesn't usually like sours warmed up to the white grape one enough to order her own. The outdoor space overlooking Piedmont Park is so peaceful and the perfect place to relax with a beer in hand with some friends. Also, they are super fast, and friendly, and prices are super reasonable!
google avatar

Yelp
I'm a huge fan of sours and barrel aged. This is my favorite brewery in all the world because they do great work on both my favorites. Beer tenders are super awesome as well.
google avatar

Kjersti K.

Yelp
This is my favorite brewery in Atlanta! They recently opened up their indoor seating. Great local beer with indoor and outdoor seating options. They have Tuesday night trivia night that is a lot of fun. They are always releasing new beer options. If you like a lighter sour beer I recommend Atalanta. Elusory is a greater heavier IPA option. They have great views of the park. Great spot if you want to walk around the park then go have a beer.

Yelp
I had no idea this brewery was here. I've been down this road plenty of times before for One Midtown Kitchen and Muse (formerly). It's easy to miss as there is no big sign pointing towards it and no big sign on front of their building. In fact, I drove past the parking lot and had no idea. The only reason I found the place was due to a couple people standing in front and a very small A-frame sign promoting parking. So, the building IS last building on the left on Dutch Valley Place if you're coming from Dutch Valley Rd. The parking lot is right before you get to the end of Dutch Valley Place and before you get to the brewery. Parking is .... FREE. Rare for Atlanta. Once you park, you walk down the sidewalk to a small entry way that bares no resemblance to a brewery entrance. More like a speak easy. You walk in and instantly get wristbanded on the left. This is also the area you purchase your tickets. $12 for a glass and 7 tickets for 5oz pours. There is one bar across the room that you cash in your tickets. Three people working behind it and a lot of 20 something year olds packing this place out. It's loud! Like I couldn't hear my buddies talking right in front of me loud. I tried out the Atalanta, serpent and stone & flesh. Most pours take 1 ticket but the stone in flesh took two tickets for 5 oz. You can double up and give two tickets (or 4) and get your glass filled. Highly recommend doing this right before the brewery tour. As for the beer, Orpheus is known for their sour beers. I actually like them bc it's unique. My favorite was the Stone and Flesh. It seriously has a malt vinegar taste, which I loved. The Atalanta came second followed by the Serpent. All sour and all awesome. The tour was ok. The guy did a great job but it's not much to look at. The barrels were cool, and the empty ones get used for whiskey. They had some HUGE barrels in the exit room. There is two levels outside up the steps to mingle and drink , plus a coned off lot to drink (which was preferred for our group (less noisy and not shoulder to shoulder). Overall, I enjoyed it. The price was great and the beer good. The reason for the star knock ... Signage! Make it easier to find this place. Check them out if you love beer!!

Yelp
The only bummer was we couldn't get flights on Sunday!Anyways my favorite brewery we went to in Atlanta! From the outdoor view to the homey-ish feeling there was inside from benches to play tables. It was a Sunday and there was a live artist painting as well as brunch items. Parking was easy as it had its own parking lot. There was locals with their dogs inside and outside, all leashed! Anyways both employees working were patient with us as we tried to make up our minds with the beer selection. From the coffee one to ales to sours, they seemed to really have it down packed! I went with the blueberry sour, as I like anything fruity! Prices were fair! Another beer here to try is the Serpent Bites!

Yelp
I'm not really sure how to explain our experience. The girl working outside was less than friendly and not very accommodating. In this time of COVID I feel like places should be making things as easy as possible for consumers to encourage them to patronize their establishment. I felt the opposite way at Orpheus. Can't get this, can't do that, all these rules that yes, I understand there is a pandemic but some of it just felt like it was them (or maybe just the girl working) being difficult. The inside was kind of a mess with stuff everywhere and a BBQ joint operating inside. I understand that the inside is closed but if you are allowing customers to come inside you should still try and keep up appearances. The BBQ place seemed to have a constant flow of traffic which is great for them. We did not go upstairs to the deck area of Orpheus, maybe I'd have a better opinion if we did but I honestly was a little afraid to ask the girl working if we could even use the bathroom so who knows. This is a great example of better customer service going a long way. Simply saying "feel free to go upstairs with your beers, its just up this way." or something to that extent. From the outside it looked like a beautiful spot to sit and enjoy a beverage. They had a rack of merch outside which I thought was great, I liked one of the shirts and some of the glassware but there weren't prices and I didn't dare ask any more questions to the beertender. As for beer, I wanted a flight but nope, no flights, so I got two half pours. I got the Over & Over & Over which I LOVED and the Inertiatic which I liked more and more as I drank it. Overall, the beer is the most important factor to me and it was good enough that I'd go again, even if it means dealing with less than welcoming staff.

Seeing as it's located on the outskirts of piedmont park, Orpheus' location is the primary draw. If you're a fan of sours then you'll enjoy the beer, but that's all they serve. The actual space is a little small and can be overwhelming on a nice weekend day.

Yelp
Orpheus is a great craft brewery to check out in the Atlanta area. The brewery is tucked away between both a residential area and the outskirts of Piedmont Park. There is a small parking lot on the property and also some free street parking nearby. There is a decent amount of seating both inside and on their patio. Before coming to this brewery, I had read that they specialized in sour beers. Sour's aren't normally my cup of tea, but they actually had other styles of beers that were fantastic. You can get both smaller "sample" type sizes and also standard sizes of beers. I started with sample sizes of two beers and then ended up ordering one standard size of one. I fell in love with their "Chaos, Night and Darkness" beer. This beer is actually aged two years and re-fermented with Merlot and berries. It tastes a lot like a bold red wine and is one of the most unique beers I've ever tried at any brewery. I loved it so much that I bought a bottle to take home with me to Chicago.

Yelp
I didn't realize that they were this close to the city. I would have totally been lost if it wasn't for Atl Beer Bus. "Plants have no memories" is a must when you do visit. #atlbeerbus #atlanta #wishyouwerebeer #ashsaidit

Yelp
Y'ALL. Especially y'all that love sour beers: this is the place for you! Atlanta has breweries on just about every block, but this place stands out amongst the rest for two reasons. 1) this has got to be the best collection of sour beer/berliner weisse I've had to date and 2) The tiered deck is awesome to hangout on (especially with pups) if you've just come from an afternoon out on the beltline or at piedmont park . I went when the brewery had just opened and loved the Atalanta plum sour in particular, and went back for the first time since and was amazed by how many new beers they have! There is a white grape sour that was everything I wanted it to be and more, and the classics are still there and better than ever! If you're an IPA or porter person, fear not, there are some great options for you too, including a dark almost guinness tasting beer with notes of cocoa. If you're looking to hangout indoors, there's a small area to cool off in but is standing room only, mostly occcupied by patrons at the bar. However, the majority of the seating/standing room is outside on a couple covered decks which are perfect for summer evenings out with friends and the dogs. I couldn't love this place more. I think it's wonderful that they often partner with the Atlanta Humane Society too for adoption events. What's better than beer and puppies?? I absolutely love trying their new beers which come around as quickly as a batch of amazing craft ales can be brewed!

Yelp
Visited this past weekend, and found they had done a great job accommodating in light of Covid. They are using their whole front parking lot for seating and have nice tents with walls set up to separate groups and provide cover from the elements. Staff even mentioned they were going to get heaters to add for the winter. Good tap list available in full and small pour sizes - mostly sours and IPAs but a few other options if those are not your speed.

Yelp
4.5 stars for a brewery that pretty much checks all the boxes very well. Whenever I'm with friends who like beer and aren't looking for a huge crowd (cough...Sweetwater), I take them to Orpheus. Located on a side street right off Piedmont Park, Orpheus is a hidden gem of a brewery that offers everything you could want from a brewery experience. While the parking lot isn't too large, there is plenty of street parking, so parking usually isn't a problem. Plus, the extra space in the lot allows for cornhole to get set up (always a good idea). If you aren't up for that, you can head inside via the side door. You can also go up on one of their beautiful patios that overlook the park and have a nice time with your friends or your dog (super dog friendly). When you go inside, you get ID'ed and receive a bracelet as you go into the bar area. While the bar area has a couple televisions for people looking to catch a game, this isn't really the point of going to a small brewery like this. The real point is to try some of their awesome and unique beers. My wife particularly likes the selection because they offer several excellent sour beers. The bartenders are fairly friendly (although a bit cheeky at times) and always ready to talk beer and let you try some samples. After getting your beer, you can sit and chat or head back to their back room where they host events (I've heard the comedy night is fun) or play some games (the foosball table and large Jenga make for good times). While not very decorated, the look of the place is clean and makes time seem like it is flying by. Overall, Orpheus Brewery is a great little brewery that provides great beer and fun activities with an amazing outside view. If you are looking to check out local breweries, definitely make sure Orpheus is on your list.

Yelp
Holy fuck are they good. Like, I'm an unabashed beer snob, and I live in Denver which has lots and lots and lots of good beers, but oh man oh man did I love this place. If I lived less than a thousand miles away, this would be a regular hangout for me. Because man oh man are they good good good. They have thirty or so taps. Some reviews complain about how many sours they have, but they had well over a dozen non-sour beers on the tap list, which is more non-sour beers than most of the small brew houses I visit have taps. EIGHT of the taps were variations on their Stouts All the Way Down series, and oh lordy is that a delicious base beer, and hojeez do they do good things with it. Who wouldn't want to be able to do a comparative tasting of different 13% stouts with different countries' vanilla beans infused? And then the same again with cinnamon sourced from different places? It's a brilliant idea, and very very very well executed. And yeah, the sour and wild ales were good. Sour beer is never going to be my great beer love, but oh man oh man do these people do it well, and I loved every beer I put in my face in this place. I Am Only Memories was a rich and delicious sour with so much body, and SO MUCH fruit in the nose and palette. I *am* a classic IPA boy, and their Transmigration of Souls is hands-down one of the best double IPAs I've ever had. Their bourbon-barrel-aged brown was FUCKING POETRY. The barleywine, Room a Thousand Years Wide, was light-bodied for the style, but still a massive beer with deep chocolate and caramelly maltiness that the bourbon barrel set off and complemented without taking over. I could go on and on about pilsner (my only complaint of all the beers I tasted there: it still had residual yeast above my own detection threshold, and could benefit from being a little more crisp) and the Ferryman, but you should just go ahead and try their beer. Because if you like good beer, you will like this beer. Also: everyone in the taproom was awesome. It was a busy Friday evening, but the staff still found time to chat about beer with us, make recommendations, and to suggest other local food and booze and entertainment things we should try on our trip through Atlanta. Every one of them was wonderful and welcoming and a delight to interact with. We'll be back next time we come through.

Yelp
Orpheus Brewing is located at 1440 Dutch Valley PI NE, Atlanta, GA 30324 in the very popular Morningside neighborhood sort of between Virginia-Highlands and Ansley Mall. You access via Monroe Dr traveling south from Ansley Mall to find Dutch Valley Pl - this is not a really obvious location for a brewery as it's tucked towards the back of the street that ends right on the Beltline. Actually it might be easier to find on the Beltline as the side of the building has the Orpheus logo prominently displayed to that avenue - you'll need to look up the hill. Parking is in adjoining lots or along the street - there's usually a white sign that shows where you can park for free in various locations. I do love breweries and Orpheus is no exception. This is a fun, industrial location a bit off the beaten path on a short industrial avenue. The neighborhood is filled with those classic bungalow-ish houses you see on intown streets, plus these straight-sided warehouse-looking businesses that almost look out-of-place but at the same time have been here so long they impart much of the area's character. Once you find a place to park walk down to the brewery - you'll have to navigate past people hanging out outside (and if you're lucky, eating from the little food stand - which was offering hotdogs on this day). Orpheus Brewing has been around for a while but until sometime last year I hadn't heard much about them. It was while visiting the very good YourPie in Sandy Springs that I encountered the Transmigration of Souls and went "Wow!" that something like that was made locally floored me. Needless to say I was anxious to check out the brewery solely based on that amazing double IPA. At this place you pay for a few tickets and you get a take-home glass (I now have the pint given to me at YourPie and this little stemmed beer glass from the visit). Note that the law has changed since my visit and breweries can now sell beer directly to the public so this process may have changed. The people at the counter are quite friendly and the people pouring beer are awesome. Now some observations - maybe it's just me but this place seemed to be a hipster hangout? Many bearded Millennials wandering around in T-shirts and flip-flops but hey, who am I to judge? I'm often urban-exploring in T-shirt-and-shorts or jeans myself and I can overlook the snobbish critique overheard from the obvious beer-nerd as I wonder the crowds. Besides, if I was single I would come here every day - amazing number of female saison fanatics tasting those piquant sours and related flavors that Orpheus is known for. Not that this is a pick-up place? but plenty of eye-candy wondering this floor on the weekend. There's also a deck out the back that allows you to get in some rays and overlook the people wondering the Beltline - it's right down the hill as indicated previously. On to the beer - as I've already stated, there's a favorite: * Transmigration of Souls - this double IPA has everything I look for in a great beer - awesome hoppy flavor with citrus nuances and a depth you don't normally experience, and at 10% ABV it packs quite a wallop without overpowering your senses with an obnoxious alcohol hit. This is an amazing beer. Unfortunately, when we arrived they were already out - thus I got a stemmed beer glass and a handful of tickets to use on something else... * Atalanta - this tart plumb saisson is rather acidic and dry - it's also outside of my preferred flavor profiles - that didn't stop me from having a glass and I could tell it was quite popular. * Peace. War. Truth. Lie - this session IPA has tons of citrus and like the Atlanta above many like it - but it didn't impress me much. To me it's overly fruity and not enough hops. * Clio and Chickataur - both of these are sours and I just couldn't. Way too tart for me. They also were out of the Stout which I was really looking forward to trying. So basically, the two beers I really wanted to enjoy were out and I was stuck with Atalanta and the session IPA. I still have half my tickets so the visit was basically a bust. I hope I have better luck next time (and don't worry, it won't stop me from ordering the Transmigration whenever I can find it.). Yelp
Quaint spot tucked away from the main parts of the city. Stopped by since they seem to be known for their sours and they had plenty! I'm not the biggest sour fan by any means (The girlfriend loves them). dog friendly, and just off a walking trail, so you can swing by for some beer and take a break!

Yelp
Great atmosphere, IPAs were good. Board games and music were nice for connecting with a group

Yelp
Finally got around to trying this place. It's on a great location near the back side /edge of Piedmont Park. The real task is finding it, GPS will get you there but since it's on the other side of the building , it won't be obvious where it is at first. Luckily they have a few signs trying to guide you. Keep in mind these are sour beers. They have maybe 1-2 IPA's so if you hate a sour beer, you won't be happy at all. Hence this place is hit or miss but I brought 4 friends here and they all found a beer they loved and stuck to that. They have a great space with a patio that overlooks the park. Inside you'll see lots of high tops. You pay$12 for 6 tasting tickets. They now give you a pint glass to take home (apparently yo used to get a tasting glass much to others dismay) They give you a good bit of a pour too but I guess it depends on the bartender that day. I preferred the Atalanta since it's a milder sour beer. My friends however loved the 12th Labor since it had 13.5 % alcohol (also worth 2 tickets due to this but worth it). It had bourbon brewed into it and it was very good although very strong. I picked this place because they were open till 9 on Thursday after all the other breweries shut down at 7! Woo hoo.

Yelp
I don't go to a lot of breweries as I don't drink a lot of beer. But I do on occasion enjoy going with friends because there's nothing like the ambience that many of these breweries provide. Usually you get a large space with different types of craft beers. There's generally some great music and food nearby. It just makes for a fun afternoon. We came to Orpheus to celebrate a friend's birthday. We had trouble with parking (there's barely any) and most weekends it gets busy here. I suggest you Uber there. That day we went, they had over a dozen different types of beers and multiple people working the bar so you were never standing in line for vary long. On the screens above the bar they describe the flavor profiles in depth. For those who are non alcohol drinkers or just don't like beer, there are Jarrito sodas in the fridge. Every 30 or 45 min or so, they do a tour of their brewery in the back and actually provide cool information about the process (I find the science fascinating). They are the first brewery in Atlanta to make sours and of course now they have branched out into all types. Orpheus beer is sold not only in Atlanta but in different countries as well. If you stick around Atlanta long enough, you'll see their beer is pretty well regarded. On occasion they will have a taco truck outside. They have a souvenir/branding store in the building and they also have someone who sells artwork. I do really enjoy the branding they use for their cans. It's genius!

Yelp
I went here with my family and boyfriend last week. Tasting and tour was $14 for 7 tickets (5oz of beer for each ticket) and a souvenir pint glass. There were seven different types of beers to try. My favorite was the Atalanta. It's a fruity beer, refreshing and sour, perfect for a sunny day! Orpheus has quite a few of these sour, fruity beers. I find them really delicious, but it's not for everyone. My dad's favorite was the Transmigration of Souls. This beer has a nice, sweet smell of wheat and good after taste. Like the other non fruity beers that Orpheus has, it's alcohol content is much higher than normal. Ambiance was great! I love the patio overlooking the greens. Orpheus is dog friendly and has convenient parking, too. It just doesn't have a whole lot of seating, so many people just sat on the balcony floor. The inside decor is mediocre, no seating, but they do have a fussball table. Definitely recommend this place! You can bring your own food and picnic. You can also use two tickets at once to get a whole pint of beer, but I recommend using one ticket at once since the servers often give you more than 5oz of beer! They're very knowledgeable and friendly, too.

Yelp
This brewery in located in the middle of beautiful Piedmont Park. We were fortunate to come at slower time. We were able to have a conversation with Chris, a wonderfully knowledgeable beertender. They shared with us information on differences in styles (for the sake of my non beer drinking friend), the coolship process, and helping my friend determine what he wanted to drink. After time inside we went outside to the multi storied patio with a wonderful view of the park. It was an overall awesome experience and another Atlanta favorite while I'm visiting.

Yelp
I can't believe this past week was my first time going to Orpheus! It's a little hidden away, but it's right near where I live so this will likely turn into a frequent summer hangout for me. When I got to Orpheus, I was pleasantly surprised by all of the abundance of outdoor seating. I accidentally came on a night when they were hosting an Atlanta "Shakespeare on Draft" event. That was a fun surprise! Now for the beer: I'm a big fan of sour beer, so I really enjoyed Orpheus. But, my friend who is not a fan of sours, had a hard time finding a beer he liked. Luckily, he liked the IPA. I really enjoyed their double IPA--him not so much. So, those are good options for the sour-hater. I ordered a flight with four different sours, and I enjoyed all of them. However, I found a few of them to be hard to differentiate from each other, and I pride myself in being able to dissect the different notes in beers. Anyways, I highly recommend the "Atalanta" beer. So good! Thanks Orpheus--I'll be back

Yelp
Best sour brewery I've been to in Atlanta. 9 beers on tap from their 'main bar' which includes mostly sours and a couple IPAs. Star of the show was Procession of the Ancients, a double IPA with passion fruit. Try it! Also have 4 beers on tap from their barrel bar, which is their really funky and rare stuff. Lots of beer available to go in cans. Casual atmosphere. Board games. $2.50 per taster so make your own flight. No food. Overall excellent if you are into trying funky beer!
