Very freshly baked food, wonderful tasting. We tried the donuts, pastries, cookies, danishes, and coffee drinks. They had delicious tasting breads (they had samples out of one, which was excellent), but we did not buy any. We liked it so much we went back the next day. Friendly staff, a bit of seating, really nice place to grab a quick snack or breakfast!

I went here back in October of 2024 and forgot to post this review. The Pistachio Crunch Croissant was really delicious! I enjoyed it while sitting outside. Friendly staff, too! The sign outside lured me in. I'll have to come back to try their sandwiches!

The chocolate chip cookie meets the hype. It is buttery and perfectly chewy with the perfect crunch around the edges. Plus it’s also huge (in fact I feel like all cookies should be the size of your face). Definitely swing by to pick up a cookie or two. I also got their New York breakfast bagel, and it was quite good. Lots of people doing take out but bar seating inside and tables outside.

Such a cute place to grab something quick! I found it from a site of the best chocolate chip cookies in the city and they were NOT lying, it’s definitely top ten. Shoutout to Grayson who helped me today and recommended trying the toasted marshmallow flavor in my latte, so good. Highly recommend visiting!

When I saw the sign that the chocolate chip cookie here was #5 on the Infatuation, I had to give it a try. Unfortunately, it was pretty disappointing. The cookie is sweet but otherwise no real flavor. The texture was nice - crunchy and sticky on the edges and soft in the middle but not particularly fresh. The chocolate cake donut was also ok. The almond croissant was excellent. Service was fine, not welcoming but not mean. The atmosphere was nice - busy and lots of people in and out.

Amazing Food and Drinks at Orwashers Bakery! I had the steak sandwich, and it was absolutely incredible. The bread was perfectly toasted, the pickled peppers added a nice tangy kick, and it was served with a crunchy pickle that complemented the flavors beautifully. Every bite was perfectly balanced and delicious. My travel companion had the Piglet—a bagel filled with ham, eggs, and cheese—and it was just as fantastic. The combination of flavors worked so well together, making it a satisfying and flavorful meal. We also enjoyed two coffees: the Dirty Harry and the Happy Jack. Both were absolutely lovely—rich, flavorful, and expertly made. They were the perfect complement to our meal. Overall, Orwashers Bakery exceeded our expectations. The food was delicious, the drinks were amazing, and the experience was fantastic. Highly recommend!

This is a nice bakery on Amsterdam avenue. You can have breakfast,lunch or take away something yummy. They have good breads and pastries. I tried the New York breakfast, a bagel with smoked salmon and cream cheese that tastes really delicious. They have hot and cold beverages too. All in all it was a nice experience.

Years ago, when access to organic and clean ingredients was limited this was a great bakery. We still occasionally patronize this establishment out of convenience, but I would recommend the local farmers markets if you’re looking for fresh and truly fantastic baked goods.

Excellent Sourdough bread. First time I had a sourdough bagel - a bit dense but excellent I warmed it in microwave for 20 seconds. Sourdough bread is one of the best I've had ever

I normally love this place, but the man working the register on Sunday at 11:30am on March 1st was so rude. He is a tall white looking man with scruffy beard. What a jerk! Everyone else who works there is kind.

I need to check this place out in person! Bagel was okay, but I think the reason I was not super impressed is because it was slightly cold from delivery. I did love the care it was packaged with, so I hope I can check this place out soon!

If you need a good breakfast spot in the Upper West Side, Orwashers needs to be on your list. The list of breakfast sandwiches and other options are definitely a great way to start the day. (No, this is not sponsored but I wish it was). I got the New York Breakfast and a cold brew. Perfect amount of salmon and dill cream cheese. I liked the onions but kind of wish they were chopped into smaller pieces. Regardless it tasted amazing and I would go back!

I was on the Upper West Side on a Sunday after visiting the flea market and passed by Orwashers and saw their Pistachio Crunch Croissant. Decided to try one and it did not disappoint. It was not overly sweet or messy. It was crunchy with just a smidge of yummy pistachio cream and some chocolate. I'd eat another one next time I'm near an Orwashers.

Fantastic friendly service. Too salty of goods. A nice woman helped me and was uber patient with my order. Thank you! I got $50 of good. Bagels, onion breads, and croissants. Cream cheese is $6, a little steep imo, for $2.50 bagels. The bagels were average. A little salty. Nothing groundbreaking. The croissants were terrific. Wish I'd spent the whole $50 on those. Maybe their sweets are better cuz anything salty was too much. The onion breads were too much. Way too much onion. Nice corner stop and nice inside.

Nothing to complain about, nothing to write home about, either. A sweet cafe with nice looking baked goods and decent coffee. There's a good amount of seating both inside and out, which is nice, and relatively rare. My macchiato was good and came out quickly. The apple crumb muffin I ordered was slightly dry, but I did stop by around 4:00 PM, so take that with a grain of salt.

Decided to check this place out since I'm a major bagel lover and I live in the area. Honestly was a bit disappointed by the size of the bagel (other shops are out there that give more bang for your buck), but the flavor and quality of what I got were solid. Especially liked the dill cream cheese! Might go back and try some other food options, but my experience was decent overall.

Amazing rugelach. Best in the UWS - I much prefer Prwashers to Zabars for rugelach. God sandwiches as well

I recently stopped by Orwashers for breakfast one day while working in the area and was delighted by the delicious New York-style breakfast sandwich. The salmon was fresh and the flavors were spot on, but I was surprised by the bagel being smaller compared to other breakfast spots nearby. That being said, the quality made up for it. Paired with a great cup of coffee, it was a great way to start the day. The atmosphere was nice and had a little bar style seating area to sit and enjoy my breakfast. The staff was friendly and attentive as well. While I would have loved a bigger serving, I'd definitely go back for another taste of their excellent breakfast offerings. Enjoy!!

Great bakery, great freshly baked bagels, love the authenticity.... But how a bagel with cream cheese and 2 slices of salmon is 12$!, when by itself bagel is 2$. It was still perfect bagel, they one I would expect to get in NY, just slightly hard on the edge. Perfectly toasted though. Been there before and probably would come back Would recommend it to everyone. I love that it's bakery, the ambience and style. Service is also fast and friendly. Oh, they also have great coffee!

After reading online that Orwashers had some of the top rated Rugelach, I went with my sister to check it out. It's always busy when I pass by so I figured there was hope that the interwebs would be correct. Sadly not. The rugelach had raisins in it and were super bland. My sister got other pastries and said she was also similarly disappointed in them. I will not return to Orwashers. Avoid the rugelach!!

One of my favorite bakeries in NYC this place is a gem. The chocolate chip cookie is an easy top 3 for me in New York. Always really nice staff and even had some seating if you wanted to eat there! Couldn't recommend more

Can't speak for the coffee, as they were so slow and backed up I didn't want to wait to get any, but I tried a chocolate scone and almond croissant, neither were fantastic. The croissant especially was dry without much actual almond flavor. The scone was fine, but not worth waiting in line and dealing with the grumpy staff on a Saturday morning around 10am. I wouldn't actively avoid this place, but if you see a line, maybe keep walking somewhere else.

Process can definitely be improved. For example, getting the bread that you grabbed (yourself) from the shelf sliced while you wait in line- instead of having to wait in line to pay, and then wait again to get someone to slice it. However, I can kinda forgive them, because their food is so good. We get their sourdough bread religiously. Just tried the Green Goddess sandwich today, and holy sh*t, it's so good! Amazing flavors and textures with the crunchiness of the carrots, radishes, cucumber balanced with fun alfalfa sprouts, sandwiches between yummy grainy bread. Loved the texture and flavors. Can't wait to get it again.

This place has excellent baguettes and croissants! We ate here for a month. Every morning they open up at 7:00am and the fresh breads are ready! My European in laws love this place. Service is fast. There're some seatings.

Best bread in NY for 100 years, classic loaves, and specialty rolls. Cant be beat. AZ

We stopped by on the weekend for a quick snack. We loved the tomato focaccia. It was savory, fluffy, and delicious. The line was a little hectic though. The line was winding in front of the door and there were frustrated customers trying to enter and exit through the line but the line didn't have much other space to move aside to. There are some tables outside but it was easier to just stroll along and eat as we walked.

Good bakery. Good service. Good cold brew with oat milk. Only had a toasted everything bagel, but it was worth it. Yum!

Excellent little bakery on the UES. I love carbs and dream about carbs and definitely went a bit crazy in the store. Here's what we tried: 1) morning spelt. Bread loaded with raisins, sunflower seeds and quinoa. So dense and hearty. Excellent with some butter or just on its own. 2) green olive zaatar sticks. Lots of olives inside but didn't think it was all that amazing. 3) raisin pumpernickel. Rye bread with raisins. Really good but I prefer the morning spelt. 4) banana walnut bread. Fresh and yum. Loaded with banana flavor. 5) sprouted grain bread. Very crunchy on the outside and chewy inside. Loaded with good for you seeds Tasted so healthy 6) Roasted Onion Focaccia Pull a Part. Didn't think this was all that impressive. 7) Whole Sticky Bun Babka. my favorite item from the store so far! Super buttery and soft with sweet pecan goodness on top! It did came with a hefty price of $17 bucks for a small loft however. 8) everything bagel. Good bagel but no scallion cream cheese? :( Overall, this is a decent spot. Definitely pricey but overall worth it IMO. The ladies who served me were friendly besides the woman who made the bagel.

Sigh. Orwashers has long made the best seeded rye bread in NYC. Any rye other than that from Orwashers is a very distant second. Their Russian pumpernickel is also absolutely delicious, as are their onion packed bialeys. I keep our home stocked with the rye and pumpernickel. The problem is that I live far enough south of the store and my work hours are such that I have to rely on the store's employees to fill my order correctly and get it safely into the hands of the Uber or Door Dash delivery person. Sadly, all too often Orwashers make mistakes -- I get only one loaf of bread, I get the totally wrong order, and so on. Hence the bakery that makes the best rye bread (dare I say) anywhere gets only 4 stars. Please folks, slow down and read the order with some consideration for sending people what they've actually ordered. Given how I feel about your rye bread, I'm not going elsewhere, but I'd sure love to not have to waste my time with customer service at Uber and Door Dash getting credited.

Great place to grab a pastry or bagel and coffee in the morning. Would definitely visit again when I'm in the area

I'm loving the new takeout Orwasher Tote bag. I did something right today, to be gifted with my now favorite Orwasher Tote Bag . BTW - On any given day, I receive stellar customer service and care; along with a welcoming smile. Also, if you give a smile ; you just might get one back in return.

I tried the green olive and zaatar stick. The olive added some nice salty and tangy flavor, but the bread tasted pretty dry, almost stale. Not terribly impressive.

olive sticks awful and brownies dry as a bone. With so many choices in this area why would anyone go back

My friends love cookies from Orwashers so much. They brought us a couple of times and we finally had a chance to visit there. The options were in a great variety and the staff was friendly. We got a slice of Sticky Roll Babka, one Almond Croissant and 2 packs of Granola. The price was decent and the portion was reasonable as an artisan bakery. We love the Almond Croissant, the filling was creamy with crispy layers, it was amazingly delicious. The Babka wasn't our type, the walnut was off-balanced in proportion with the Babka itself in our opinion. The granola was also good, which was baked properly with plenty of different ingredients.

Terrific breads and pastries here! Been in business for over 100 years and still cranking out the delicious baked goods they are known for. Had a giant flaky croissant today, along with an amazing morning bun. Both delicious. Also picked up a loaf of bread which they sliced for me. Friendly service. Reasonable prices. Tasty hot coffee too. Worth an early morning visit to start the day. Not the place to go if you're dieting or watching that carb intake!

Orwashers Upper West Side Orwashers Bakery is well over 100 years in business. I've lived on the Upper West Side and now on the Upper East Side and purchased their baked products at both locations for years. They supply their delicious breads to local eateries too. I've never had a meal at this location. I'm buying my breads and pastries and leaving. I do prefer the location on the Upper East Side. They have given me a free sample to try before I purchase. So far my favorite is their Black and White Cookie. The loaves of bread are excellent too. It's all good! I'm recommending if you visit NYC you stop in for a muffin, cookie, or croissant. You won't be disappointed.

I have had this catered in, and the bagels/cream cheese are standard (not bad), and also I liked the banana bread enough (because it was not very banana-forward) but surprisingly the standout was the sandwiches. The turkey/bacon sandwich was good and refreshing, but the true STAR was the roast beef. Full of tender, decadent, fatty roast beef that did have me alternate bites with the other sandwich because it was so rich. I have yet to try the donuts still...one day.

I am a long time lover of Orwashers. But this location is not as good as the upper east side location. They have the best chocolate chip cookie in the city, no doubt, and I always love their specialty coffees. I routinely come on the weekends for a bagel, and they have gone down in quality over the years. They used to really taste like sourdough, and be substantial, now they're tiny. Also, I ordered this toasted, it's barely toasted and doesn't seem very fresh, despite it being Saturday morning. It feels hard like it was baked days ago. Really disappointed, stick to the pastries and coffees...

I tried their Green Eggs and was quite disappointed, since I'd heard good things about this bakery. It was very bland. The avocado and eggs had no flavor and you could barely taste the cheese. (And this is coming from someone who is not into strong flavors) They have a great variety of breads, so I'd like to try something else, but not ordering this again and wouldn't recommend it.

To the managers in this place, please! train your staff members to listen to customers food request attentively. Mainly to avoid your staff from exerting vile attitude when customers let them know they got the order wrong. I was in this morning and issued a simple order. One bagel toasted well with cream cheese and two small coffees with half and half, one light, one not light. When the bagel was given to me so quickly, I asked- "it toasted well?"- "Yeah" answered, the lady with the long pony tail.-- But it was not. The bagel was barely warmed and soft. When I took it back to have it prepared the way I had asked. The attitude from this lady was palpable. She wouldn't make eye contact, cut and flung a new bagel into the toaster at the slowest possible speed, twice, and instead of getting it toasted well this time, she burnt it. This was a $13 order- Why the attitude? Now- The coffees at this point were also not correctly prepared, they were both too light and barely warm from too much dairy. I should have returned all items and walked away, but I had my mother with me, who needed to eat something before her medication. And at this point the order had taken so long... Orwashers - preparing food with this disgust is not good customer service. It is unacceptable and unnecessary.

Just got Orwashers delivered via Caviar DoorDash. Food came really fast esp given the distance. And me oh my the bread and treats are so freaking fresh and delicious I'm in a state of utter nirvana. This was a trial run and it was worth every penny. I got doughnuts, the scrumptious olive sticks, two loaves of freshly sliced (sliced!) bread - sourdough and pumpernickel. The two side salads (tuna and egg), rugeleh, a mini black and white, and more. So very happy with this experience!

On the plus side, Orwasher's has some of the best croissants and breakfast sandwiches in NYC, plus one star for that. On the minus side I'm officially over their staff. This time I ordered an egg and tomato sandwich and a toasted croissant at the order counter. The woman taking orders seemed put off by asking for a croissant to be toasted, not sure why since it tastes a lot better if crisped and warm. Five minutes later the counter guy calls me to the counter and hand me a bag with only the egg sandwich. I asked if my croissant was still coming, since arguably that would come out at least as fast as the sandwich. The counterperson looked confused and went back and threw it in a bag to hand to me and I said "I ordered it toasted. Can you toast it please?" He looked exasperated and told the woman running the toaster, who also gave an incredulous look and threw the croissant on the counter by the toaster. I wait another five minutes while she toasts 20 or more pieces of bread and pastry for orders that came in after me, all the while my croissant is sitting there on the counter. I went up to the register and asked politely if they were going to toast my croissant and he seemed like he was at a loss what to do (throw it in the toaster maybe?) and was looking at the woman running the toaster. She still didn't put it in for 2-3 more minutes, seemingly finding anything she could be doing other than helping me, now waiting 12-15 minutes for a toasted croissant and me having to run back to my wife to take bites of my now-cooling sandwich. Finally the toaster worker throws it in a bag, smashing the side of the croissant in the process and the bag is rudely shoved at me without a word. Last time for me at Orwashers. This level of service has been my experience there 3 out of 4 times and I'm tired of feeling angry after having my breakfast no matter how good it tasted. The workers seem to be undertrained and under-supervised.

I was so happy to try your coffee after a nice lunch I had with my friend crave fish.. I asked for a coffee at 5:45 pm and the 2 lady's on the counter told me in the rude way that they closing in 15 minutes so I couldn't get my coffee because the coffee machine was clean and they don't even have drip coffee cause they drop it.. this is a shame ..

Perfectly decent breads, but not too special. I was excited to see they had a bialy, but it tasted a bit too much like a normal squishy bread roll, rather than like a proper bialy. Zaatar green olive stick was tasty enough. And chocolate rugelach were pretty nice but not as good as Lee Lee's or even Zabar's. Certainly a good option on the whole, but also not worth a special trip.

This is a nice bakery! They have good breakfast and lunch foods like bagels pastries, sandwiches and salads. The bagels are fine but nothing special. Personally I think the breads and the pastries are the best part about this place. I usually get their sourdough loaf which is delish, but today I got the challah pan loaf which is like crack it's so good!

First disclaimer is that I have only tried their breads. However, they are glorious and do not disappoint! They have a wide variety of breads from ciabatta to baguette to pumpernickel to rye. My personal favorite is the swiss health one. I have it with some salted butter and apricot preserves and it hits the spot every. single. time. Also, doesn't hurt that it is quite close to where I live so I always get to have freshly baked bread for breakfast!

I always enjoy Orwashers food and coffee! Clean, fresh and friendly! Their bagels and breads are amazing, as are their cookies and other desserts. They have a good variety to please just about anyone. Definitely a great spot to stop through on a cold or hot day, as they have a plethora of hot and cold drinks on the menu.

BEST BIALYS EVER! I love bialys, have tried H&H, Tal, Kossars and more. Trust me, these are the best. Lightly toast and add butter. The bagels were very good but not as flavorful as Tal. The texture is perfect - I am from Philly and Philly bagels are less cake-y than New York bagels. Orwashers bagels pair a crunchy exterior with an airy, chewy interior. So good - among the best - but still have to defer to Tal Bagels on this. I am not a babka maven, but OMG the slice of the babka was heavenly. A slice is like a mini-loaf, very rich, very moist - and no chocolate or cocoa addition that have ruined modern babkas. Other pastries, like the croissant, brioche are good but nothing better than other local bakeries. Still - I will be back and am looking forward to trying their cinnamon bread. Oh yes, and the rosemary bread was notably good.

For years I have heard people rave about Orwashers, so the other day, I had lunch across the street and stopped in to try their Russian pumpernickel and chocolate hamentashen. Both were disappointing. In particular, the pumpernickel bread was surprisingly insipid. If you are a fan of pumpernickel bread, go elsewhere, The only good news is that my lunch across the street at Gazala was divine. Orwashers is now scratched off my list of bakeries to try in NYC.

Hype. Hype. Hype! Marketing. Youtube videos have made this bakery. I'm only talking about their baguette as this is all I tried along with an okay coffee. The baguette was similar to baguettes one buys from supermarkets. It was not crunchy on the outside. Inside was a doughy mess. Flavorless. As I chewed it felt as it were falling apart in my mouth. I had only taken a piece of the baguette - so I took the remaining almost full $4.00 baguette and threw it in the garbage. I thought about taking it home and toasting it to see if that would help but I was too disappointed. This is a basically a wholesale factory with a storefront.

My family friends swear that Orwashers has the best babka in NYC. I'm more a fan of their ciabatta muffin breakfast sandwiches, but that's the beauty of a very good bakery: with such a large variety of baked goods freshly and expertly baked, everyone can find something they love. Anyways, back to the babka: the taste and texture reminded me of Asian milk bread - a light sweetness and a tender, pillowy crumb that tears in long shreds. The filling, described as "sticky bun", has a hint of cinnamon, a lot of brown sugar, and walnuts scattered throughout. It's not the dense, usually intensely sweet and filling-laden babka that I'm used to, but it is very, very good - so good that I doubled back in the afternoon to buy another slice. The ciabatta muffins were likewise very light and tender, with none of the sometimes overly-chewy toughness of traditional ciabatta, and yet the flavor was unmistakably ciabatta. They taste excellent with jam and butter, and even better with egg and ham. We tried twice to buy a bunch in the afternoon and they were sold out both times, so come early if you want to try these! I didn't have a chance to try the doughnuts, but heard that they are excellent filled with raspberry jam (which is piped to order). Service is fine - fairly fast if not very friendly. The tight quarters and uptight clientele we encountered also left me feeling lukewarm about eating in - I had placed my breakfast sandwich at the counter, then left to get my coffee from the pick-up area. When I returned to eat my breakfast, a father with his two kids, who had arrived after me, glared at me and moved his kids down one seat as if I was the harbinger of the plague. People also bring their strollers in and get inexplicably upset at you when they run their strollers into your feet while you're standing in line - happened to me twice out of three visits. Probably more of a place to grab and go - and Central Park offers a spacious outdoor picnic space just a few blocks away!

love this bakery. everything we've tried has been so good. flaky croissants. delicious rugalach. pairs great with coffee. little outdoor tables when the weather permits. great service. truly a neighborhood fav.

They have one of the best croissants in New York. It's super fluff inside but it's huge and the outside is nice and crunchy!!! Their coffee is pretty good as well. Last time I was in there we ordered a couple of sandwiches which were good The biggest pit is that there's no pumpernickel bagel and for a bakery you would think they would have it...oh well their specialities are sourdoughs. Last but not least the staff is super cool and really nice. No grumps first thing thing in the morning is always nice ;-)

Fantastic chocolate chip cookies - maybe the best... need to do more research. I will come here more often to discover more but... there is some pain involved - all of which has been mentioned. Price: high. Attitude from customers: omg. Employees: maybe they are too busy, but they could use more patience. I want to try the sandwiches, bagels, breads, and probably everything else. I'm in.

Orwashers is a pretty nice bakery located on Amsterdam Ave in the UWS. Depending on when you go, it can get pretty busy. It isn't a huge space but they have some bar seating inside. When the weather is nicer they have some table seating outside under an awning. The staff has always been nice and the line does move pretty quickly. You first order on the right when you go in and then you pay on the other side. Tip for Children's Museum of Manhattan members: mention your membership and show you digital membership card and you'll get 10% off your order.

Top NYC Bakery. Orwashers is a great place to bring people, especially when the weather is nice. The upper west side store has an outdoor sidewalk patio where you can sit, relax & enjoy the local ambience. Went here today. Planned on buying a simple baguette but the guy working the counter tempted me by offering a chocolate croissant. Must be a mind reader, how'd he know? Now I'm hooked on their chocolate flavored products. I'd planned on simply buying some bread but decided to sit outside & eat (pig out) instead. Very relaxed, no one pressuring you to buy or leave quickly. Nom nom nom I was enjoying the patio but needed more of this delicious bread. I returned to the store. I looked for their famous chocolate bread but it was already sold out. Had the skinny brioche with Nutella instead. It's essentially a Nutella sandwich! So good. Will try the jelly doughnuts next time. I've had Orwashers breads many many times. Always delicious. Not too heavy. Not too sweet. Perfect.
