Os Cachivaches

"This restaurant is run by two siblings in a residential district close to the university. It features a tapas bar with high tables for informal eating plus two dining rooms where guests can choose from an extensive à la carte which impresses thanks to its array of rice dishes (we particularly recommend the creamy rice with marine plankton). Make sure you also leave space for the exquisite desserts, especially the brioche “torrija” with vanilla ice cream, and the delicious cheesecake." - Michelin Inspector

The restaurant was very big and by the time we were leaving it was almost full. There were a lot of locals, which is always a good sign. They have an extensive wine selection. We ordered the langostino kataifi as the starter, it was very delicious, especially if you have a sweet tooth. For the main, we ordered the meloso de carabineros con planctón marino. If you like your rice on the drier side, with overcooked burnt patches, you'll definitely like this one. For the dessert, we went with the coulant de chocolat blanc and I was glad to have read some reviews beforehand because it was not on the list that our server listed. The service was not very friendly, most likely because we don't speak Spanish. Although we have been to numerous restaurants in Spain where we had a language barrier and still felt very welcome. Overall I'd recommend.

I can see why this is in the Michelin guide. Birthday meal while on the Camino and wow… I’d give it 10 stars if this were possible. Absolutely outstanding flavour. Heaven on a fork. Out of the main town but don’t let that deter you visiting. We are going to return when we come back later in the year. Service is also friendly, efficient and so helpful. Great atmosphere. Lovely decor.

The best arroz dishes I have ever had. Really exceptional food. First class service to go with it. Very highly recommend.

The food was good but I expected more having in mind that is a recommended restaurant of the Michelin guide. What I really liked was the sauces of "Calamar de la ría a la andaluza" was amazing and also you can use it to combine with your rice, bread, etc

A little bit too busy with a large group sitting in the same area. Service was ok, food was a little bit too salted.

It was easy to find and there is plenty of street parking in the local area. It isn't in a particularly scenic area but it certainly is a popular place. There were two waiters with very good English. We ordered 2 starters ( 1 each ) which came separately so we shared them. The calamari was quite chewy, not as good as we have had at many other restaurants and the tempura cheese was very good. We thought both starters were overpriced for the quality and quantity served. For main course we both had the confit duck rice dish. It was well presented and tasted superb and good value for money. A shared brownie with orange sorbet finished off the lunch very well. The house red wine was very palatable. Cost was €81 plus a tip. If we went again we would probably only order one starter as we could not eat all that was presented.

The food was great. I had pluma (morsels of meat) with potatoes chips (home made) and my wife had a single-dose of their vegetarian paella (arroz). Again, both were very tasty. The service was a bit weird ("the paella will take 23 minutes to prepare"), but the main waiter was more informal and was very helpful. The place was packed when we left around 10pm.

Repeatedly the best rice in Galicia. Whatever rice you choose, it's always perfect. Mandatory restaurant in Lugo! Shellfish and other things look nice too, but I can never resist the rice.
