Yelp
"Osakana" is now called "Okonomi Market", so that distinction was a bit confusing to find this place originally. I had walked past it unknowingly twice, and confirmed that the address matched, so I walked in. There was nothing in the glass counter, as some other Yelp pictures had shown filled with I guess specials of the day, so I only had prior pictures to go by.
While I was beginning to ponder what I wanted to order, I was greeted almost immediately upon entry, and was advised the whole menu on the wall was for take-out, that they were offering; no dining in. I decided to get the Hokkaido bento ($37) and the chirashi ($20) to see what the difference in taste and quality was like. I had to wait 15 minutes while the order was being prepared, and that allowed me to soak in the decor of the place.
The vibe is very chill, with the LoFi music playing from the speakers in the rear, and their knick-knacks were meaningfully selected and displayed with purpose and care. They have two fridges filled with other items to purchase and take home with you, if you wanted a taste for future use.
Overall, as soon as I got the two bento boxes, the overall feel of the boxes transported me back to the eki bentos we had in Japan, so for unsuspecting Americans, you might feel you're getting a little for a lot, but these are the portions in Japan! The fish was very fresh, tasty, and the presentation was nothing short of beautiful.
Will this fill you up as a meal? I would say no.
Would I go back? Yes, I would try maybe other bentos.
