The Best Gay Bars In Atlanta - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"Oscar’s Bar is a groovy (there are disco balls, OK?) little spot in Midtown. It shares the Ansley Square Shopping Center plaza with Felix’s and Eagle, so it’s the ideal starting point for your night of bar hopping. The dark interior has a bar in the center and wooden cutouts of cocks (the bird) on the walls. Oscar’s is usually the opposite of the gay beach party scenes playing on the columns of TVs on the walls. Aside from the loud music, it's a chill space to have a drink or unwind on their with even chiller patio." - juli horsford

We're from Syracuse, NY. We loved it here. Nice atmosphere, great service and conversation. Good time. Well definitely be back.

Google
Randall the bartender has run me out of the bar without ordering anything on at least two occasions now. I made an effort to arrive in the advertised time of 2-8 p.m. on Wednesday for interesting cocktails as opposed to the standard fare of rum-and-coke, vodka-sprite, whiskey-soda, etc. Randall gaslighted me, saying that the cocktail emphasis ended at 7 p.m. There was exactly one other customer in the bar besides my party of three, yet he wouldn't give me ten seconds to express what I was looking for. I wasn't aiming for special treatment, but as soon as he decided I wasn't "from around here," he was uninterested in our business. We went to Felix's instead and had a nice normal bar experience. I won't be suggesting Oscar's to my friends again.

Google
Always a fun time to be had here! They have various nightly themes to keep the mundane workweek interesting! The new Retro Wednesdays are a lot of fun! Go see Chad for a great cocktail!

Went on Wednesday 3/27 and the bouncer (white male with grey hair) literally stuck his arm out in front of me and shoved me back. I was not aware that they had a private event going on, but I would have appreciated it if he hadn't touched me. Oscar's usually doesn't have a great vibe anyway, better to go to the following spots around it like Felix's, Eagle, Mixx, Friends on Ponce, etc. Very rude though.

Google
First time visiting this place while in town for New Years Eve and while I had a great bartender, one of the other bartenders was one of the rudest most unsanitary gay men to ever set foot behind a bar. He was only wearing a jacket with no shirt, every so often he would scratch his behind then make a drink, without washing his hands, this was in addition to consistently texting and ignoring his patrons, and what’s worse he skipped over two Lady Gaga songs in favor of some cheap bubblegum pop artist. A gay man with such disgusting taste in music and sanitary habits shouldn’t be allowed anywhere in this type of establishment.

Google
Came into this bar and was having an amazing time. A friend was sitting at the bar and was thrown out for no reason by their door guy Josh whom was not working and was off. Josh was drunk and overly aggressive and inappropriate all night. The staff ended up handling this situation above and beyond. I would recommend this place to anyone. It has such an inclusive vibe and they were truly caring a concerned with our wellbeing. Josh should 1000% be fired. However ever other employee was not only amazing but someone I want to be friends with.

Google
Oscar’s provides a neighborhood comfortable feel with a sleek, clean environment, surround TVs with upbeat music videos. Amazing, talented, experienced bartenders. Randall is so friendly , cheerful, remembers your favorite drink and not hard on the eyes.

Google
Great experience! We’re from out of town and and got to experience all kinds of Atlanta flavor. Randy makes drinks in a timely fashion and have you dancing like a Ariel after she got legs ant one point Sebastian was there playing the drums.. I’m pretty sure.

Yelp
Great place for Monday Karaoke! The bartender is awesome and the karaoke is awesome! The people are so freaking welcoming too. Love this place!

Yelp
This place was across the parking lot from the Atlanta Eagle, much smaller, and just as crowded. There's a small patio in back, which was a little quieter and more conducive to conversation. Went with my brother and his friends, and while this was my first visit, it's one of their local hangouts. The staff was friendly. Drink prices, especially beer, were comparable to the Atlanta Eagle, but much less expensive than at BJ Rooster's, down the street. Oscar's is located in a small strip mall that has several clubs and restaurants. Parking is free, but can be difficult to find. There was a Philly cheesesteak truck parked outside, and I did give them a try...decent, but nothing to rave about.

Yelp
Horrible bar. The owner and manager who's her son are completely unprofessional and not good people.

Yelp
I have to agree about the service lacking. Walked in and the bartender was so busy having a personal conversation with his friends on BOTH sides of the serving lane, that he didn't have time to even acknowledge that I was standing there, money in hand, waiting to order a drink. And didn't for about 10 minutes (no exaggeration). Then he told me that "you can't get a Corona at any bar anywhere" when I had just had 3 at Felix's and 2 at Bulldogs. Just say that YOUR BAR can't get any. His tip was zero and I think I'll pass on this bar.

Elizabeth S.

Yelp
I like the bartenders (Tommy, Gavin, Erik, Chad), but the patio outside is really concerning. There is a coke dealer that sits back there all the time and this rude b#$&@ (Jada) that sits back there with him and yells at everyone, creating an uncomfortable environment. I think she is homeless and lives in her car, never buys anything, and is rude to anyone that comes to talk to the drug dealer. Like, if you like him so much, don't yell at his customers! She is racist and rude and drives people away with her attitude. Ban her please!

Yelp
If I can give this bar 10 stars, I would. Love your energy Randall. Will return when I'm back in ATL

Yelp
I've been going to Oscar's for three or four years now. They have the friendliest staff in the industry. Chad McDaniel does an exceptional job as the bar manager and all of the bartenders truly take care of their customers. If you're looking for karaoke, don't miss Messy Monday's with Betsi and Weston. If it's trivia and drag that floats your boat, head on in to Wednesdays and listen to Misti Shores and Chad belittle each other. Any day of the week is the perfect time for a cocktail at Oscar's!

Yelp
After moving from Florida this is one of my fiancé's and I's favorite bars in the area. It is a very low key atmosphere and we have always received great service. Drinks are strong and very affordable. The plaza has two other gay bars and even a Chinese restaurant next door so there is a lot to offer in such a small area. We've had pretty good experiences with other patrons as well and never felt uncomfortable here. Definitely a bar we regularly visit.

Yelp
The drinks are great, but the service is lacking and not so friendly. I had never been in there before. It was me and 1 other person in there. The bartender decided to talk with this 1 customer for 30 minutes. He didn't check on me at all. After he made my drink he left me alone. He didn't strike up conversation at all. He then made a point to say to his friend "I take care of my regulars over anyone else" How do you gain regulars if you treat new people like crap? By the way this was Saturday at around 3:00 PM
google avatar

Yelp
Randall is the best. Come here! Sue will save your life, she's the patron saint of Atlanta!!!

Yelp
Walked into Oscars to play the machines and ran into a great bartender Randall!! Good drinks n Great conversation will definitely be back! P.S. great vibes here too... if you come to the square make sure u stop at Oscars and ask for him

Yelp
Very nice people. Not very packed for a Saturday night at 11:30. But good drinks. No cover. And mostly men. So very few lesbians lol. Over All great vive. Music is chill and throw backs.

Rob B.

Yelp
Oscars has become my favorite bar in the city. The bartenders are all amazing and super friendly! Stop in and have a drink, it's always a good time from Karaoke on Mondays to Drag Trivia on Wednesdays!! Chad is hands down the best bartender in Atlanta.

Yelp
Another really bad experience here. From bartenders (who never stay) to the clientele (either drunk or young and rude). I really don't care for the place, but friends talk me to coming here. Not anymore. Same with Midtown Moon that they own.
google avatar

Thomas H.

Yelp
From Nashville, first night was great, female bartender was exceptional and friendly. Second night, male bartender was standoffish and complaining that he'd had no sleep. Poor service and borderline rude. We left after one drink.
google avatar

Argentina C.

Yelp
Cheesy, friendly atmosphere. Music was not good, neither were the performances. Had a drink, someone bought me a drink, which I did not solicit. It was a good past time, won't be back.
google avatar

Michael E.

Yelp
I have been going there for months. Always good service until tonight. I walked in, NOBOBY behind the bar. When I asked a patron where the bartender was, he told me, "he's on the other side socializing". They told me that his name was John. When he finally got back around, he ignored me. I left. Unacceptable service.

Yelp
Way cool karaoke!!! I walked in with a friend and we immediately signed up for a song and despite being so crowded (at least 40-50 people there) our song got picked right away. Is that cool or what? I learned they like to welcome the newbies to the bar making a point to get us up right away but our second song did take forever, maybe an 45-60 minutes (I didn't time it but it was a long time). Affordable drinks, nice crowd. Fun evening. I actually like having the doors opened so you have the option of being close to stay cool or move further in to get warm. Bonus is free parking and easy bar hopping to and from Burkharts and Felix's. But get there early if you want to park in the lot since it will fill up. Oh yes and of course no cover charge. A fun visit and I will go back!

Yelp
Always a great time at Ansley Square if you have a little time and want to meet some slower paced Atlanta midtown locals! I've been hanging at Oscars for the past 4 or 5 years now, and every night is an entertaining and different experience. My favorite night... MONDAY evenings with Brian, Dakota, Neasia, and Corey! After all these years, It's still my favorite spot to begin and end any evening out on the town!

Shay O.

Yelp
Really cool and fun spot , have karaoke Monday's and have other fun themes on different days .... sue and Kent are some of the best bartenders very professional, friendly and both can make killer drinks . It's mostly a mature crowd . Have a nice back patio , && it's a smoke free bar , they have slot machine for those who like to gamble
google avatar

Jim S.

Yelp
Good luck getting a drink...even with only 5 people at the bar! Stopped in on Saturday evening, only 5 pp siting at the bar. 3 Bartenders. Took forever for any of them to notice I was standing there waiting. They were more concerned with playing kissy-face with each other than taking care of the FEW customers that were there. During my one beer, I noticed 2 other guys come in, stand at the service are for a drink, get no service, and walk out. Don't waste your time. One good note, the weather was nice so the doors were open getting out some of the smoky and dirty mop water smell that is usually there.

Richard K.

Yelp
Advertises as a nice neighborhood bar. But, horrible attitude by "head" bartender. I said I was new to the neighborhood and then he was even worse.
google avatar

Yelp
We visited this place on Tuesday, showtune night. Upon entering, it appeared to be the Rent Soundtrack playlist, luckily only 2 were played in a row. The crowd was what I expected based on its location and relaxed. The atmosphere was good, music on the showtune night appeals to a bit older, more "gay diva" crowd, as we found out early into the night when we knew none of the songs after a while. The bar and service was quick, drinks were enjoyable, and as mentioned, a lot of smoke in this small place. Having lived in Chicago, Hawaii and Cali, I have been spoiled by the smoke free places. Would go back with the right crowd, understanding that I would no 1 out of 50 songs.
google avatar

David K.

Yelp
I have to concur with my fellow Yelpers that this bar has exceptionally great drinks. My friend Jen and I went here yesterday for a quick beverage and ended up staying a little longer than expected - mostly due to the great music and videos that they were playing. The bartender was a little vulgar... I guess that's to be expected sometimes. The crowd was mixed (to say the least), but fun loving all-the-same. The smaller size makes conversations a little easier and drink refills come quickly.
google avatar

Zachary A.

Yelp
I visited Atlanta for the first time in October and found myself at Oscar's twice. I think it's a nice bar, it's not dirty or grimy, but definitely attracts an older crowd. Atlantians are definitely kind towards "outsiders", but can also come off like they are just attracted to what's new. I'm also fairly certain that the bartender made my drink extra strong. I'm not mad, but it was almost not good and I felt like there was an ulterior motive.
google avatar

John H.

Yelp
I haven't had a bad experience here. The drinks are usually strong. They play good music, and when the weather's nice it's great to sit out on the back patio and shoot the s*** with friends. The layout of the place makes moving around pretty simple, but I can see how it could get crapmed. One of the better gay bars in the city. They have a movie night here every Monday.
google avatar

Victor B.

Yelp
Wonderful smoke-free environment now! Check out Chad and Ian (bartenders) - will give you a great cocktail experience!

Yelp
I give props to this place. The bartenders are always in such happy spirits, the drinks are made well, and it's just generally a welcoming place. It's very relaxing and the bartenders do their best to enhance your experience.

Duriko W.

Yelp
So.... I have come to this bar several times and always have a wonderful experience! However tonight me and a very close friend came in for a drink and there was absolutly not 1 person in the bar except us and the bartenders friend, I asked the bartender here if he could make me something strong but fruity in a very playful manner and he seemed to be in a very bad mood, he said nothing to us the entire time that we were there but seemed to be very polite to his friend who was visiting him at the bar. This has been a awful experience for me considering this is my neighborhood and knowing that i patronize this bar often.... Management please talk to this person to improve your customer experience! Writing this as we pay our bill never planning to return.

Yelp
Sue is a great bartendress. Great tender of the bar and a sweet soul. Don't miss her.

Yelp
To the bitchy, old, full of herself queen that works the bar: Just because you are bitter that you have to work Saturday nights, instead of getting your party on, doesn't make it okay to take it out on the patrons of this clearly "second tier" establishment. You clearly have some anger issues that need professional attention, and I suggest that if you are going to continue to be a bartender, that being a complete and utter ASSHOLE should be something that you should work on, stat. Basically, here's the story. I have been to Oscars several times, but never have I thought anything other than, "oh, we have to go there... ugh". Mostly, because the bar is a bit tragic, and as far as gay bars go in ATL, it was always very close to the bottom of my list of choices. Well, after last night, it is now the last place I would EVER step foot into again. A good friend of mine was celebrating his birthday, and we decided to go to Burkharts, which is right across the parking lot from Oscars. After becoming annoyed with the ever growing crowd at Burkharts, it was decided that we should move on to Oscars, because, as expected, it wouldn't be as crowded (it never really is... which is probably reflective of why I will never set foot in there again). After paying tabs and making our way over, we settled on the patio outside, which was empty except for our group. I went back inside to get a drink, and found an empty place at the bar to lean in and ask for a drink. There were two bartenders standing directly in front of me, one mixing a drink, and the other just standing there. They both made continual eye contact with me, and taking that as a cue, I simply leaned in and said, "can I have a miller lite?", assuming that their eye contact meant that they were curious as to how they could help me. What I wasn't expecting was the aforementioned old bitchy asshole's response. He was the one making the drink. His response literally took me by surprise, because he said in a very derogatory way, "well, I will, if you can WAIT YOUR TURN", literally yelling the last part at me. Being the person that I am, who doesn't really put up with bullshit, especially in situations where I am paying for a service, I put my money back in my pocket, said "fine then", and walked back outside to my friends. I was a bit taken aback that he would be so rude, but just decided that this place wouldn't be getting any of my money, and tried to move on. Then, about 5 minutes later, the other bartender came outside to "cool me off" I guess, and stated that the asshole bartender was "just like that", to which I told him that it was really rude, and that I wasn't going to be going back in there to deal with it. He asked me if I wanted anything, and I told him that I didn't appreciate the attitude, and that I was fine, for him to leave me alone. The whole conversation was civil, but still awkward, as the asshole had sent someone else out to feign a half-hearted attempt at an apology. What I thought was over, can only be followed by a situation that ranks near the top of the most ridiculous, immature, and completely unacceptable experiences I have had in my life. The asshole that had been rude to be decided that he was going to come out and "straighten me out". He came out on to the patio, and loudly declared that he was "looking for the idiot that couldn't take a fucking joke". I thought I could avoid the situation by remaining silent, but after a few demanding shouts of the same demeaning request, my blood was boiling, and so I told him that I was not an idiot because I didn't want to put up with his attitude. This quickly escalated into an all out shouting match; every attempt I made to get him to leave me alone was met with him insulting me over and over again at the top of his lungs. It was clear that this asshole was 100% asshole, and there was no way that he was going to back down. I kept asking him to just shut up, and leave me alone, and he would not back down. Finally, I told him that what he was expecting was for me to just put up with him being and asshole, and if that is what he wanted, that he could fuck off, and at that, he demanded that I leave the bar. I told the people I was with that if they had rode with me, that I was clearly leaving, and the asshole even continued shouting at me as I tried to get out of the bar as fast as I could. He just wouldn't stop. Needless to say, I left, and will NEVER return. What I can't understand, is how I warranted such a response, especially considering my only crime was not putting up with bitchy behavior from some dried up old queen of a bartender. If you have that many issues with yourself that you can't be more polite to people that have come to you for a service that you are there on the job to provide, perhaps it is time to put the cocktail mixers down and move on to a different profession. Oscars is officially the worst bar I have ever been to, and I won't be back.

Grant M.

Yelp
Mixed gay crowd but EXCELLENT drinks. Much more reasonably priced and about the strongest in the city. Plus the bartenders seem to have a knack about losing count of your order!! I think they're expanding too.
google avatar

Jenni B.

Yelp
Oscar's has the best toilet paper in midtown! Maybe the world!!!
google avatar

Chris L.

Yelp
Not sure what is going on - went to meet some friends at Oscar's on 10/22 - drove up to find the lights out and doors locked. No, it was not a private event with steamed windows! There was no one there and if I remember correctly even the sign is gone. All the best to the bartenders Kevin and Anthony, they did their jobs well!
google avatar

Dewey H.

Yelp
They leave the door open even though it's 43 degrees out tonight, everyone is cold and leaving. Very strange, one minute it's hip hop house and the next it's like Nashville threw up in here! I can't figure out Oscars any more! But I'm trying to because the space is clean.
google avatar

John P.

Yelp
Not pretentious and strong drinks. Bring your own quarters if you want to play darts.

Howard R.

Yelp
This place used to be fun and would be pretty busy on Saturday nights. Some friends and I stopped by last night for some martini's. The bar staff is unfriendly and full of bad attitude. They seem to be more concerned with their phones and their own conversations than the customers. We will not be going back.
google avatar

Greg R.

Yelp
It is a nice place to stop by and see friends. It is kinda small and smokey but a regular crowd.

Megan C.

Yelp
Don't use the jukebox! They skip over the songs you want and will not play them! Even when you have paid for them

Charlie S.

Yelp
After a closing and one failed attempt at a reopening, Oscars is once again open this summer. Remodeling and removing the video wall and DJ booth has opened the space up more. The new owner went to a lot of trouble to install an excellent audio/video system that is constantly overridden by a pay for play juke box that blares so loud it is uncomfortable! The staff is not very attentive so be prepared to wait for refills. I had high hopes for this place but sadly there is nothing to draw me back.
