O'Shaughnessy's Public House

Went here on New Years Day, got the Reuben and curry fries. The curry sauce for the fries were amazing, the Reuben had a lot of meat but overall was dry and barely had any sauerkraut or sauce. Husband had Magners and I had hot tea. Service was good, bathrooms were clean. Family friendly with baby seats and kid menus. We were in the back where everyone with kids goes to sit and it was pretty chilly, no idea why they didn’t have the heat on. Probably wouldn’t go back unless I get a craving for those curry fries.

This was an absolutely spectacular venue. The full Irish cooked breakfast, was exceptional, they were very graceful about a preferred substitution and they know how to do a proper Guinness poor. The ambiance of the location is really special and you have outside seating in both sun and shade depending upon your preference. I only wish I could have gone through half of the menu and spent the day watching some baseball...

This place was my favorite shepherd’s pie for years, until I had it delivered last night. It was mostly mashed potatoes, which somehow had no flavor and were very dry. The meat filling was very bland with the onions still crunchy. I ate some because I was starving and tried to fix the rest of it by adding flavor, but it couldn’t be saved. I’m sorry, but how was this nearly $19? It’s also about half the serving size you get in the restaurant, but that doesn’t matter as I wouldn’t have finished the rest. My husband’s Reuben sandwich also had little to none dressing. Frustrating waste of money.

All time great pub. Service, vibe, tunes. All amazing. Maybe the best Guinness I’ve ever had. That is saying a ton. Love this place. Thank you for existing.

The staff here are really nice. We did not have a wait even though we showed up in the middle of lunch rush. I got a Caesar salad with steak it was absolutely delicious and exactly what I wanted. My husband got a burger I believe but he loved it the fries were absolutely delicious the beers were cold and everyone was very attentive to us

As gorgeous as this fish & chips was it was so bland. No seasoning at all on the breading or fish. The staff were super nice though.

Oshaughnessy’s is amazing. I appreciate the staffs and managers kindness to me even though I have autism and their food is amazing and really good. Owner Sidney is very nice. The restaurant is in good condition. Great Irish breakfast. Must come back. 10/10.

Great Irish Breakfast, my waitress was very kind. When I first walked in (after checking the hours), I thought the place was closed. I was ignored by the bar tender and two gentlemen at the bar. I almost left, but I am a sucker for a good Irish Breakfast. The food was very good, but I felt like I was intruding on a secret meeting area 🤣

This place is my neighborhood pub. My go-to. I'm a regular. Here's why: Solid pub grub. It's not a gourmet experience, but meals are prepared with care. After 10 years, I think I only had one borderline meal and I should have known the Shepherd's Pie was just a notch above what they're gonna be able to serve you. Everything else is decent to good. I always get the wings and they're always good. Good burgers. Good sandwiches. Good fish and chips. Decent cocktails, but this is the perfect place for a beer and a burger. What makes this place really stand out is the friendly vibe and the staff. Whoever's hiring down there and setting the tone is doing a great job. They know my name there and I know there's. Marie once spotted me at the Grocery store, waved and said my name. You're just not gonna get that from most other joints in the area. Expect a core group of really Irish characters mixed in with a lot of lovable locals. I recommend the wings, the burger, the bangers and mash or the fish and chips.

They were not kidding about the fish and chips being delicious. The drinks were a little pricey (though on par for the area), but honestly all my complaints went out the window when I had the fish and chips. I can't stop thinking about them and will definitely be back.

Irish pub with great service in Ravenswood, right near the train station. We came for brunch on the weekend. Breakfast menu goes until 2ish, and lunch menu is available too. The Reuben was good and fries were fresh. The Irish mimosa (mimosa with black currant) was refreshing and not too sweet.

Our daughter moved to the area and after a long day of moving, we needed something to eat. O'Shaughnessy's is within walking distance so we checked it out. Our party was four adults and two young adults (old teenagers). We were seated right away and greeted by our server. We ordered drinks and Curry Chips. The Curry Chips were so good. My son devoured them and still talks about them. I had the Reuben, it was fantastic. My hubby had a burger as did my ex-hubby. My son had the quesadilla and my daughters ordered a burger and the corned beef press. Everything was delicious and the serving sizes were great. My daughters' friends showed up when were done eating and joined us for a beer. They had no issues accommodating us and adding a couple beers to or tab. I look forward to eating at O'Shaughnessy's again when we are in the area visiting my daughter.

Even living just a couple blocks away for 15 years I have only been here a handful of times. But it's a good spot and you'll always find folks dining here outside--love that they have a nice, sizable outdoor seating section. I most recently visited with a friend and our kids and we got some sausage rolls for the babies (they seemed to like them--the flaky pastry especially, in my little one's case), as well as some nachos with pulled pork. That was probably my favorite part of the meal, to be honest; they were delicious. My friend got the shepherd's pie and I chose a Rueben. I wasn't disappointed in the Rueben--it was luckily not very fatty--but I chose hastily when since I hadn't been reading the menu very closely and would choose something else next time since there are lots of places that I can get a Reuben, but some of their other things are a bit more niche. I've also been here once for brunch, with All Saints' (the church calls it "the annex"). Their brunch is good too so if you're looking for one in the area definitely consider O'Shaughnessy's.

Stopped by for dinner and was very pleased! We sat outside and our service was excellent! The food was delightful and I have no complaints! There was a marketer passing out free whiskey shots, so obviously that makes for a great experience too!

Love love their shepherds pie. Friends love their bangers & mash. Great place for a nice, warm lunch during the winter months. We had a company event here for the holidays and the service was top tier.

Came to Chicago for St Patrick's day and happened to walk in here on st Patrick's day early and found a seat and everything was perfect. Bartenders and waitress were super friendly. Got the English Breakfast, and having been to Ireland before, it was authentic and exactly what we wanted. Also got the shepherds pie and again, great. Very happy, will be back next time we're back in Chicago

So I've been to O'Shaughnessy's a handful of times over the years, and the Irish pub seems to hit the spot. By some coincidence our last two visits came during major sports events (The Masters, Kentucky Derby), and there are TV's to show you the sports action. Recently my lovely wife and I stopped by for a bite to eat after checking out an art show nearby. We split the Classic Angus beef burger, which came with a tasty side of fries. The burger did taste beefy and went well with my pint of Guinness. The staff was pleasant throughout our mid-afternoon visit.

I love this place. I usually order the fish and chips and it's reliably great, but is time I went with the Ravenswood Salad, and it was the most delicious salad I've had in ages! Chick full of yumminess: mixed greens, avocado, feta, pumpkin seeds, walnuts, dried cranberries, and walnuts. So interesting I skipped the dressing! Also, the service is always super friendly and accommodating

O'Shaughnessy's has quickly become a favorite of ours for large group gatherings. Super easy to get seated without a reservation, easy to accommodate larger groups, huge selection of alcoholic beverages, and an amazing selection of delicious foods. All the food comes out promptly and always great service. Love the interior and the furnishings, such a great place to grab a pint or meal.

Attended a friend's birthday celebration last night at O'Shaughnessys. Delightful evening! Loved the chicken wings and mac and cheese. Alan, our private bartender was gracious and thoughtful. I'll be back.

Another great experience at O'Shags! We live nearby and decided to come by for a late lunch. We were seated right away, inside, and the front door was open so we still got to experience the sunshiney day that we had! They do have a great patio as well, that's also dog friendly...we love to see it! Our server was friendly, attentive, and brought our food out in a super timely manner. The menu is large and has many options well beyond the Irish name. We actually started with the quesadilla (LOL) and it was delicious! For my main course, I went with the buffalo chicken salad. I've had a few different salads from here, but this one is definitely my favorite! The salad is crispy buffalo chicken, romaine lettuce, red onions, cherry tomatoes, carrots, and blue cheese dressing (I opt'd for ranch). Everything was fresh, the lettuce was crunchy, and the buffalo chicken was perfection. My husband always goes for the shepards pie, it's his favorite!

O'Shaughnessy's is a fun spot that always seems to have a nice mix of regulars and newbies. We have been treated well there, and our most recent visit included us splitting a burger. I love the ambiance, as even when they are a tad crowded, it is not too loud.

3.5 stars. Good place to grab a pint. The inside is a classic, cozy pub. Decent amount of tables, TVs, and taps. Has a little strip of outdoor seating I think. Got the Ruben and it was OK-ish. Panini pressed with a small amount of meat and some sauerkraut that didn't really pack a punch.

Classic Irish pub with your favorite candy bars behind the bar. Good service and food; what you world expect. Nice selection of beers with seasonal changes. Of course there is an extensive whiskey menu and some nice sounding cocktails. The bar menu is longer than the food menu

A truly great and authentic Irish-style pub created by lovely transplanted Irish people, serving delicious food and drink, featuring gorgeous woodwork, stained glass windows, and a friendly, efficient staff.

What an amazing place they are so attentive. It's not that expensive. Depends on what you get. They keep coming over and checking on you to make sure you're well and that your food is delicious and hot. Great place I recommend it to everyone. It's a nice little Irish bar Dever I wish breakfasts are delicious next time ago and I'm gonna try something else it's really a great place to go a beautiful place and I'll find a place to sit.

This is one of the cleanest, coolest, fun Irish pubs I've been to in Chicago. The outside is iconic; you can see it from the Brown Line blocks away and it just draws you in. I've been here for Manchester United matches and the place gets PACKED. During the pandemic, they did a good job of enforcing the rules. My last visit here, it was just a random Wednesday night and we were seated right away. The bartender was attentive and the pints of Guinness even had a little shamrock inscribed in the foam! Every time I've been here, the food has been very solid and consistent. On Tuesdays they also have a beer, burger, shot special. I will definitely be coming back more often, as this is a great place to hang out.

I made advance arrangements with Julia to bring a group of about 40 people last night. She set us up with a great space, great bartender, and great vibes all night. A strong 5-star showing. Very grateful.

I finally came by! I've been wanting to visit this Irish style pub for months. It has great ambience and is clearly appreciated by the community as I saw a few different groups eating and having fun together. Our server/bartender is a legit Irishman, should that be important to you. I had a Southwest Salad and stole quite a few fries from my boyfriend's curry plate. Both were VERY good. I'm going to be more adventurous with my order next time I'm there. I'm particularly interested in sitting outside on the patio. I really liked the special touch of carving a clover into the perfectly poured Guinness. More often than not, you shouldn't have to pay for parking. Simply go north a half block and you'll find a lot of free parking.

We can highly recommend this restaurant/pub, for a party or event. We just held a wedding shower for our daughter and 20 guests in the back, party room. We had a private bartender, waiter, our own bathroom and a beautiful space. We ordered buffet style: and served mini Vegan and beef shepherds pies, mini sliders, double fried, fries, a beautiful caesar salad and a pasta salad. Then, little cheesecakes and chocolate Guinness cakes for dessert . All the food was great, and drinks were beautiful. Compliments from all the guests on the food and service. Thank you manager Julia, and you ur team of staff.

I usually come here for their Irish breakfast. It is delicious. They offer half Irish and full Irish so you can pick depending on how hungry you are. During games, the bar does get really busy and loud but once the game is over, it clears out pretty quickly and getting a table isn't too bad. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area!

I absolutely loved this place. From the ambiance to the amazing food, it was a great place to be. The shepherds pie and the egg rolls were my favorite dishes to try here, and the chocolate milk Guinness was surprisingly good. I have plans to be back

Really craved Irish chicken curry and chips and O'Shaughnessy hit the spot. Their ciders and drafts are wide in range and would definitely come back for a pint and chips. Also had one of the burgers and it was a little overdone. But the chicken curry was delicious - chicken was tender and the chips were perfectly crisp.

Love the Irish waitress here - she's the best! The corn beef hash is my favorite, with the brown bread, so good! Cute pub vibe and cozy on a cold day. The soccer games/fans can get loud on weekends but overall it's a fun energy imo.

Stopped in for dinner on a Saturday night. Service was great. Wide selection of beer and cider available. My friend and I both had amazing burgers. They had pork belly on the burger. So delicious! Chef stopped by our table as well and he was super friendly. He stated that he's trying out new entrees soon and to come back. I had the name of the chef and our servers but blanking by the time I'm writing my review. Definitely would recommend!

This would be a 5-star review were in not for the owner's decision to charge the customer a 2.5% fee for paying with a credit card. That is the cost of business and if the establishment doesn't wish to pay the fee, don't accept charge cards. The service was excellent, the food was great, and the entertainment was fantastic! Then we were presented with our bill and that did not sit well.

Nice little neighborhood Irish pub. I really like the outdoor seating during the summer. The inside back room is also nice for when we bring our toddler with us for lunch. Great food, great service, great place.

Food is tolerable for pub food. Nothing on the menu is very flavorful, but then again it's just Irish pub food. What can one really expect?? The overall atmosphere is nice. It's a great place that is warm and cozy, so definitely a good place to gather with friends/family. The service isn't the fastest, but then again, when you're going to be just chilling out with friends over a pint, does it really matter if you received your drinks in (15) minutes or (5)?

Came by for Sunday brunch with our kids. Food was great, service was good, and loved the digs. The Irish breakfast was exactly how it should be, which they get bonus points for. We will be coming back for sure!

O'Shaughnessy's has become a hangout for me and my co-workers. Partly by default, because it's nearby and offers extensive food and alcohol selections; partly because of all the outdoor seating; and partly because it's just really good. I visited O'Shaughnessy's twice in the past week, each time enjoying the outdoor dining. My co-workers and I drank a fair amount of the hard cider and the cabernet sauvignon. One had the fish fry reuben and loved it. I had the appetizer quesadilla, which is now available with vegan chorizo for an extra charge, and the third had the vegan salad. I found the quesadilla to be incredibly filling, with a generous portion of vegan chorizo, and ended up reheating most of it the next day. The vegan salad was also rated excellent. One new, nice feature is that there are a couple vegan options. I do appreciate that. I would suggest to the owners that they consider offering vegan ranch dressing and vegan cheeses, too, because that would allow us plant-eaters to really expand our choices here. Be aware that O'Shaughnessy's has not, as of this writing, updated their on-line menus, so if you're looking for some of the offerings I mention here, you may not see them. Service on the patio was quick and efficient. O'Shaughnessy's is a terrific spot in the Ravenswood neighborhood. I know my co-workers and I will be back.

I'm SO glad that my boyfriend and I found this place! It's the most perfect neighborhood bar and they have AMAZING FOOD. We always get the Shepherd's Pie (pictured below). If I were ill-mannered, I'd lick the plate clean. The drink menu is very extensive. I personally enjoy the Magner's Cider! But when I'm in the mood for a cocktail or bourbon neat, they have me covered! Support local!!

O'Shaughnessy's public house looks like a typical Irish bar and that's a good thing. A Guinness was in order and was soon brought to the table. It did seem as if it was a proper pour. Of course the fish and chips were a must, and when I go back, they will be a must again.

Outstanding food. Had the signature smoked salmon sandwich by recommendation. The Shepherd's Pie egg rolls were an awesome twist on a classic. The Buffalo cauliflower dish was very tasty & tender w/a bit of crispy edge. Would definitely return!!

Not bad service, just NO service. I was there on a quiet Tuesday night with a small group. A few apparently had ordered drinks/food before I arrived. I needed to eat dinner. A server came by a number of times and I tried to establish eye contact with him and held up/waved my menu. I could not get a response even though the menu itself is quite large in size. I was facing the server and on the table's end. After waiting about 15 minutes, I went in search of the host in the next room. There apparently was none. The only person I saw was the bartender and I asked if I could order from him since I had been waiting so long. He took my order - although gave me an argument as to what the opinions were with the sandwich. I had to read the menu to him a couple of times. (Perhaps he could not read English.) I went back to the second room and was served without comment 15 minutes later. (Did I want anything else? Did I want a condiment for my sandwich? Those questions were not asked.) No silverware or napkin was provided, so I had to get up and find my own. In a few minutes I needed some water and had to again go into the next room and ask the bartender for a glass of water which I carried back to my table. Did he contact the server and suggest I might be in need of service? Apparently not. I was the last to receive my check - without any comment. (Perhaps the server did not speak English and was unable to address the lack of service.) If I had waited any longer for the check, I would have walked out since I would have been sitting at the table alone. Will I return? Guess...

Love this neighborhood spot but unfortunately they keep raising the prices and are now making the portions smaller. $18 for a small chicken sandwich??? Fine for a beer, but skip the food given the cost.

Dropped in on a slow, rainy afternoon. Good beer selection, good service, decent food.

Arrived here shortly before 10 for some drinks and food. The blonde waitress with tattoos and pigtails at the time came up to us and told us table service ends and we had to go to the bar to order. Not a problem. But then she tells us it's too late to order food as their "system automatically doesn't let you order food after 10" and it was 2 minutes until 10. However, a few tables down a group of people came in, got table service, and ordered food at least 5 minutes later, probably around 10:05. Super annoying and rude. Terrible service. Won't be back.

Don't eat here. Server (meaning the bartender) was not very friendly or attentive, the Load Irish crisps were terrible and the salads we had were boring too. Buffalo Chicken salad is literally just chicken and greens, with a creamy blue cheese dressing and the chicken salad was boring with identical croutons (from a bag?) They have a few good non alcoholic beers probably alcohol is the best thing to order here.

Service and ambiance were excellent. But I order a Shepherd Pie and was very disappointed.

Wonderful service and delicious breakfast. The breakfast was so good. The waitresses are friendly. Kid friendly and so delicious.

Would have given 5 stars, but the air conditioning was off, despite the humidity outside and later, rain. I ordered the traditional Irish breakfast. Very Big and very good, though the potatoes could have been more throughly cooked. I also substituted a regular sausage patty for the BLOOD sausage I can't handle that! Good breakfast all around, good people at the bar and most importantly, good service! Lot's of beers to choose from on tap and in bottles too. I'll have to return for Shepherds Pie when I'm in Chicago again.

This will always remain our hang out spot. Even though we won't be working nearby we plan to come back. Drop by this wonderful place and see Julia. She was so sweet and was cheering us on after we told her of our recent lay off. This place has excellent food and drinks. We dream about those shepherd rolls. I personally love the almost summer drink. It always hit the spot on a stressful day.

Atmosphere is great, especially around Christmas. Shepard's Pie Rolls are outstanding & the Irish Curry Chicken was delicious as well
