The 25 Best Restaurants In Montreal 2024

"This mostly daytime cafe is run by the same people behind Fleurs et Cadeaux, a sushi and vinyl bar in Chinatown, but the focus here is on Japanese dishes, coffee, and drinks. The semi-basement, quasi-industrial space is the only place in town where you can dig into a curry bowl or happily unwrap a perfectly constructed katsu, karaage, egg, or avocado sando any time of day. You’ll find a mix of students, designers, musicians, start-up workers, and other creatives hanging out on the long banquette, especially if you drop in for one of their special DJ nights Thursday through Saturday." - ivy lerner frank, team infatuation

The Best Montreal Cafés for Working or Studying | Eater Montreal

"This popular working café within startup centre Notman House just had a big makeover when it combined with Japanese snack bar Marusan. Now in addition to being a great place to work with plenty of tables and perfectly filtered coffee, it serves Japanese sandwiches and curries. Stick around after work for a 5 à 7 with a live DJ, some natural wine or sakes, and relaxing on its outdoor terrasses." - JP Karwacki

The Best Cafes in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"A unique blend between a coffee shop and a Japanese snack bar, this collaborative effort oozes creativity. Whether you’re stopping in for a coffee or something a bit stronger (hey, why not?), the hearty Japanese fare on offer pairs well, as do the DJ sets on rotation." - Daniel Bromberg

The Best Specialty Sodas and Drinks at International Supermarkets - Eater

"Milk tea is tea leaves steeped in milk in various combinations. You have oolong, darjeeling, and other forms (which I encourage you to try if you haven’t), but hojicha is my personal favorite. Hojicha is the more elegant sister of matcha: Whereas matcha leans more fresh and grassy, hojicha is the roasted version, and provides a deeper and earthier flavor. I recommend finding hojicha leaves and having them for hot tea (or finding sachets for a hojicha instant latte), but if you want a soothing cold version, hojicha milk tea in the carton is unbeatable. Marusan’s uses soy milk, which helps with any lactose intolerance." - Pelin Keskin

The coffees and the sandwiches were to die for. The entire place is super cute and very pleasant to hang at. We got there right before it started being a bit crowded so it was perfect. The outdoor area also seemed like a vibe and the employees we talked to were polite and kind. Going back for sure so that I can try the other sandwich!

The place is not a typical cafe in terms of coffee and treats. A lot of the drinks and food are based on Japanese cuisine. But it's good! Great atmosphere with vinyl records to choose from. So that makes it also a music bar. Nice lighting scheme with use of skylights. It's cool in summer and warm in winter. The biggest challenge is parking nearby to access the place.

The café has a really cozy and inviting atmosphere, but it's not particularly suited for families with young kids. It feels more like a hangout spot for teenagers to socialize or meet new friends. I tried the matcha latte — it was decent, though I personally prefer a stronger, slightly bitter matcha flavor. For lunch, I ordered the fried egg sandwich and the pork chop curry rice. The sandwich was nicely seasoned and quite enjoyable. The pork chop, while tasty, wasn’t the traditional Japanese-style breaded version — it lacked the crispy panko coating you’d expect from a tonkatsu. That said, the curry sauce was very flavorful and well done. Overall, the food was good, but the portion sizes were a bit small for my appetite.

Young cool hip vibe. This place was a club or a music venue before turning into a cafe? Serving Japanese street dishes, along with specialty drinks. Very popular, and line can be long, but large outdoor seating can accommodate many customers.

Google
matcha was good, although it was ~7$. I would’ve preferred a taller cup for that price! The texture was grainy (I got a hot matcha) which was weird. Long tables good to chat with strangers unless you want privacy then there’s also smaller tables. We didn’t realize until we were done but there was outdoor seating which is so nice. Chicken karage sandwich was really great & didn’t skimp on the protein !

love the vibe here and they have decent drinks!! their cookie is also rly good for the food i used to love their curry it was so flavourful and distinct but i think they might have changed it cuz this time it was very normal. the katsu it came w was rly nice tho, crispy and not dry! but i dont esp like the sandos either :( overall great cafe/study/chill spot but wouldnt come back just for food

Google
Amazing food and drinks with a unique environment ! Definitely not a place to have a productive session since it can get quite noisy during peak times. Good if you’re bringing a friend to catch up with alongside good drinks and food. We came at 2pm and there was a huge line and the Sandos were out of stock. Definitely come early at 11-12 if you want to get more choices on their menu and possibly less wait time since we did end up waiting 20-25 mins for our meal. Very delicious and the chicken was crispy and fresh. Would definitely come back again!

I can’t believe we have such a cool place like this in Montreal. The food just blows my mind. I had the egg sandwich, which was perfect. The environment—both outside and inside—is fantastic. For summer, it’s just so convenient. The menu isn’t huge, but the drinks and food are delicious. I’ll definitely be back again!
