Osteria Acquarol

"Centrally located and with a plain, almost minimalist interior and a small charming outdoor space on the pedestrianised street for summer dining, Osteria Acquarol serves dishes which are strongly rooted in the region yet prepared with modern techniques and very much influenced by the character of the owner-chef here. Regionally sourced sustainable ingredients often feature in its highly original cuisine, including aromatic and wild herbs grown in the chef’s own garden. In 2023, the restaurant’s kitchen garden was extended so vegetables now play a more dominant role in the two tasting menus served here (seven and nine courses, with dishes that can be chosen à la carte style) – examples include the cold minestra soup entitled “L'orto dietro l'angolo” (“the garden around the corner”) and the unusual green tagliatelle with its carefully balanced bitter flavours. Originally from Cremona, chef Alessandro Bellingeri showcases the region in interesting and original ways." - Michelin Inspector

Incredible 9 course Michelin star tasting menu. Enjoyed the entire journey the chefs took us on, so many unique dishes. The spinach tart and morchelle were the highlight for.

It's a shame, but we really didn't like the dining experience. You enter a sparsely decorated and impersonal restaurant. As there were few customers that night, only one of the two rooms was laid out. In the other, somewhat almost empty room, there was an uncovered table with at least 20 tablecloths piled on top. Unusual for a Michelin-starred restaurant, to say at least. Of the 5-course menu, we were only really impressed by the amuse-bouche and the ravioli. The ravioli were light and perfectly balanced. While the starter and dessert were still delicious, we were disappointed with the main course (lamb porchetta) and appalled by the smoked spaghetti. The porchetta was not juicy and hard to chew; the side dishes were uninteresting. The smoked spaghetti was simply inedible. It had an intense fishy flavour, accompanied by an incredible bitterness and then… nothing further. We couldn't get anything out of this dish from any point of view. On the plus side, the service was friendly and dogs were welcome. Perhaps the restaurant has just had a bad run, but after this evening we can neither understand the star-nor the high Google rating. The money could definitely have been saved.

Down-to-earth elegance is Osteria Acquarol in the small town San Michelle on the Südtiroler Weinstrasse just outside Bozen/Bolzano in Alto Adige. Alessandra Perla (from Mexico) and her husband (the chef) enjoy experimenting with local and fresh, fermenting and preserving foods, and a variety of spices. • We stopped in for a late lunch, she was happy to accept us. • Impeccably plated, unpretentious food with flavors to relish starting with peach and herbs on a thin miso cracker of sorts to wake up your palate. • We shared a starter of smoked trout from a local mountain lake and two plates: Tortellini stuffed with a Trentino cheese similar to Parm Reggiano, with saffron and Fusilli pasta with cress, rocket and more. Reasonably priced, wines from the local area, will definitely go back next trip! • Pascal their cute little dog might touch your heart!

Visited again July 2022 and they NOW HAVE A MICHELIN STAR!!!!! Great result for a talented team. Visited again in September 2021.The food and ambience are still outstanding and Alessandro and Perla have added the supply of beautiful pasta to cook at home This is a world class restaurant in every way. The food, wine, people, ambience. You would be lucky to experience such a beautiful evening or lunchtime. We visit every time we can go to Italy.

Recently had the pleasure of dining at Osteria Acquarol, where the ambiance is as delightful as the food. The couple running this place do so with genuine warmth and attention to every guest, creating an exceptionally welcoming atmosphere. The interior is tastefully minimalist, with an inviting outdoor area perfect for summer evenings. The cuisine, rooted in regional traditions yet crafted with modern flair, features fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Highlights include the garden-fresh dishes, subtly showcasing the chef’s skill. Chef Alessandro Bellingeri and his team excel in offering a culinary experience that is both authentic and innovative. The tasting menus are a great choice for those who want to sample a variety of what this charming spot has to offer. Definitely a must-visit for anyone seeking a warm and memorable dining experience

The lady that served us was very knowledgeable on wines. Even though they were about to close they allowed us in to enjoy some very wonderful wines.

Been to so many Michelin star restaurants and this is by far the worse of the worse. The tastiest was the bread and the balsamic & wasn’t explained to us that the balsamic will come with a cost. Well that’s fine with us.. theres a price tag on the balsamic which clearly displayed $18.50 but when the bill came, they charged us $36. That’s fine too cos we are paying what’s worth. As for the rest of the dishes, I don’t enjoy at all & waiting time between dishes was very long. The wait time is so long that we got to keep ourselves entertain otherwise we’ll fall asleep (beer in mind that besides us, they’re only 1 more diner). Above it, the place is very stuffy that we had to make trips in and out of the restaurant. It’s that bad. In all or if not most, the chef will present himself & interact but I guess it’s a choice this time that he choses otherwise. Indeed, a bowl of instant noodles or pizza paired with coke will bring me better experience and joy. I’m fortunate enough to be able to burn my $$ to this restaurant. It’s a cheap experience and I will not recommend this to anyone unless u have spare change or if u wish to try what’s a lousy Michelin star restaurant. By all means pls :) Will forgive the Michelin guide for this oversight & I’m certain this 1 star rating will be short lived. A day after our visit and to the chef who requested our presence in his feedback to share with him face to face, I went down to your restaurant this evening after my review of this below par restaurant but u were closed. I really wanted to tell u face to face that your food really sucks. Opportunity came upon us & we discover a great 1 star Michelin restaurant just down the lane. It’s called Zur Rose restaurant which is located just a stone throw away.. it’s way way way better… wine is good, lots of selection, service is nothing short of greatness and the owner and chef even came by to say hello and check if the food is ok & interacted much with us. It was a joyous evening with the owner, service staff and chef. This is what I define as a class of its own & it’s a well awarded Michelin star chef. Zur rose is a 28 years Michelin star restaurant & they are worth every single cent as compared to this 2 year old who got big headed and thinks he knows his stuff. I hope he can learn from Zur Rose & stay humble with his small achievement. For all out there, pls avoid this place at all cost & head directly to Zur Rose restaurant. It’s way better & I’ve tried it today. Way way better than this restaurant a zillion times. However, if u wish to feel the difference between both Michelin star restaurants & have some spare cash to burn, u may still try this restaurant out. Stating the the food doesn’t fit us is an understatement & I can accept the labelling from the chef from this review. I got no hatred but just being very transparent with my sharings. Personally, Michelin rated food is way above just food. It’s a collective of many facets wrt to food, people & venue etc.. all fused into 1 & experience is very important. In this case, it’s a bad experience with Osteria Acquarol. Who know they may be better down the road…

The worst Michelin restaurant we ever dined in. We were served with some breads and i asked the lady boss for balsamic vinegar, so that it will goes well with the olive oil that has been served to us earlier on. She then charged us that bottle of balsamic vinegar without telling it is chargeable, moreover, she doubled the cost in front of us. It is truly very disappointing when we are already paying such a premium price for the 7 courses dinner and yet such service cum standard was been presented to us. Well, such low graded restaurant we would never recommend to any one else. 😔
