When in Florence you MUST have a Florentine steak but there are so many places that sell it, your main decision is where. This location just made that decision much simpler. From the moment we stepped inside, the staff and setting make you feel at home. You are walked through the menu and taken to choose your wine based on what you have ordered. The steak was extraordinary and so was everything that went along with it. Go somewhere else if you just want a steak, come here if you want an experience. 6 stars.

This place is a wine lover’s dream. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and paired local wines with each dish beautifully. I tried the Bistecca alla Fiorentina (Chianina beef) — well cooked and nicely seasoned. I particularly enjoyed the wild boar pasta and the roasted vegetables. The small, cozy interior makes you feel like you’re dining in someone’s home. Definitely one of the best spots for both food and wine in Florence.

I went to this restaurant with two friends after a recommendation, and I really enjoyed our dinner. The food was excellent and high quality. I especially loved my choice of meat with potatoes. The restaurant itself is lovely, situated in a quiet area but still central and easy to access. The staff were very friendly, and our waiter was professional and gave great wine recommendations. I would definitely recommend this place!

This was the best meal we had on our trip in Italy!! Everything from the antipasto through dessert was absolutely incredible. The service was spectacular and our handsome waiter, Lorenzo, helped us pick the perfect wines. If you want a great meal (farm to table) in Firenze, make a reservation now.

One of only a handful of places my wife and I visited on both our honeymoon and again 7 years later on our most recent visit to Florence. The experience and the food lived up to our memory and even surpassed it. The wine selection is excellent, covering a wide range of local producers and outside regions. We split several dishes which they portioned out for us equally without us having to ask; the two pasta dishes and steak were perfect. This will be the top of the list anytime we return to Florence.

Amazingly tasty food! We had pate for antipasti that was super delicate yet very flavorful, was amazing with few pieces of tasted bread and a solid portion to share. Pasta dishes were great too. I had pasta with funghi, loved the taste and the aroma. We will be back for sure.

Everything we got at this restaurant was a 10/10. We shared everything and they split the dishes for us perfectly, the tartar was some of the freshest and most tasty I’ve ever had. The service was on point and our waiter was super friendly.

Amazing service and food! The pasta with the sun-dried tomatoes was my favorite. We ended up here on a whim around 8pm and they gave us a table even without reservations but asked if we would be done by 10pm we told them no worries that we would be. They never once rushed us and they even encouraged us to take our time when I realized it was past 10. The food was just so good! They even split the pasta into separate plates as our family of 4 wanted to share them and I do know that’s not how they do it in Italy So that was very kind of them to do. We had wished to go back but didn’t have luck making a reservation before we had to leave. 10/10

We weren't in Florence for so long so really needed a solid place to try Florentine steak and this was a great option. The vibe itself is cool (automatic door walking in, dungeon-like walls with cute decorations). Walking to your table you walk by a huge wine selection, which can be overwhelming. We started with the asparagus and peas salad. This was pretty solid, simple but it worked. We grabbed the spaghetti with the cream of asparagus-normally wouldn't order so much asparagus but this was the pasta that sounded the most interesting to us and we did ultimately end up enjoying the sauce quite a bit and it was one of the better pasta dishes we had in Italy. Got a side of the white beans which we probably didn't need but didn't mind. The steak: first of all it's very sizable. The Florentine way is rarer than I would ever order a steak and while I'm glad I tried it, I probably wouldn't choose it again. It's an interesting ordering process as you're essentially given the sizes they have left there for the night so you never know walking exactly how much you'll pay. I do appreciate that they cut it for you but I did feel like some of the meat was still on the bone (not that we really needed MORE meat I just didn't want to waste any). The flavoring is pretty good but there are definitely bites that are better than the others. The service was a bit mixed. There were times they were interested in talking with us while others they didn't seem so interested and a bit aloof. This was especially true when we went to check out. Ultimately, served its purpose in introducing us to a style of steak we hadn't had before and did so in a way that we enjoyed.

Fantastic spot to try Tuscan regional specialties! Our fellow dining room companions were tourists & locals alike so I feel like that was a good sign. It didn't start getting super busy until ~9pm - which is the usual Italian dining hour. We had the: *Prosciutto del Casentino - Le Selve di Vallolmo (Specialty Tuscan Ham of Free Range Grey Pork of Casentino, Tuscany (Slow Food Awarded Ingredients)) - MOVE OVER IBERICO. This was incredible - just melt in your mouth. You have to get this! *Ravioli di Peposo di Manzo al Burro e Timo (Ravioli Stuffed with Stewed Peppered Beef and Tossed in Butter and Thyme) - Peposo is a classic Tuscan dish that's usually tough cuts of meat cooked down in Chianti wine. Loved this 'twist' on a classic dish. They also so kindly split this portion for us which was perfect. The Peposo was perfection; if they just had Peposo as a dish, I'd order it! *Bistecca dell'Osteria (House Specialty Bone In Steak) - the star of the show!! While this isn't Chianni cattle or anything, this was fantastic piece of steak. Perfectly executed at medium rare. Love that the menu states "If you prefer your meat more so well done we would be happy to recommend another dish to you." Ha. Make sure you order a BOTTLE of wine! They have GREAT local options at super reasonable price points.

Last-minute change of (dinner) plans found us on 'the other side of the river' and walking here. Countless cases of wine on display all around (including "in" the floor, under plexiglass, that you walk on/over)... Dark moody lighting... Stone walls and geometric artwork/pieces using various rocks... We had high hopes right from the start. Then, we opened the menu. Pigeon?! Sweetbreads?! Creamed peas as a 'main component' in what seemed to be an overpriced 'thick soup'?! (Oh, boy.) Then, we interacted with our waiter. "Are there any specials?" - the Mrs. "Within the menu? No, nothing. They are all the same." (His various piercings, man-bun and chip on his shoulder lead me to believe he completely understood the question and wanted to be a bit snarky towards the tourists.) Moving on... One kid got the steak (what else is new?!) - once again a place that didn't even bother to ask how he'd like it cooked. (But he loved his dish, so...) The Mrs. got a pasta dish which she adored. Myself and the other kid decided to try the cod-and-chickpea dish that sounded so strange but... we both thought it was damn good. Small (perfectly cooked) piece of fish but... wildly tasty. Food (and wine) - delightful, fair pricing (even if the portions weren't big enough for us Americans). Service and 'vibe' - a bit brusk, especially compared to all the other places we'd recently hit around Tuscany. And this would be the only place in the region to not offer any 'goodies' when bringing the check. (You kind of started to assume/expect a complimentary shot or some 'nibbles' after it became the norm since we'd landed in Italy.) Overall - we dug the visit, probably wouldn't come again though.

Incredible. Instantly one of our Florence favorites. The tagliatelle with ragu and the spaghetti with tomatoes three ways (chopped, dried, and sauce) are two of the best pastas we've had in the city. The steak is also among the very best -- less rustic than eg Sostanza or Mario (which is what my wife prefers) but excellent in its own way. Their potatoes were also incredible -- we were still talking about those the next day. We'll definitely be back.

We were not thrilled with the food or service. We had a reservation and were promptly seated. We started with a cocktail. Our server kept pushing us to order, we just wanted to enjoy our drink. We finally ordered our meal, however our food came before we ever saw the wine sommelier. Then I had to leave our table to order the wine front of house while my meal was getting cold. It was ridiculous! Our meal and steak was very mediocre, not enjoyable. Even the beans had zero flavor, tasted canned.

Truly an amazing food experience. Spaghetti Pastificio Chef's specialty was a well balanced pasta dish. Ravioli di Peposo stewed peppered beef might have been the best ravioli I've ever had. The pasta was delicate allowing the beef to shine. Calamari In Zimino was actually quite hearty with just a hint of spice. Fried pork shoulder was a huge hit with our group. As good as our dishes were, the service was inattentive. Extensive wine cellar to compliment your meal. Cheers!

Absolute must try for anyone looking to visit Florence! The staff is incredibly friendly, the wine options are amazing and paired for your course and the pasta and steak options are endless. The staff suggested taking us to their cellar to select a wine with each course of our meal. After a busy day exploring Florence, we started off with two pastas - a braised rabbit (one of the best pastas ever) and a carbonara. The pastas were both perfect and great to split as a couple while preparing for the house speciality steak. The steak was one of the best pieces of meat I've ever had. My wife is always more cautious with a more red piece of meat but this is cooked perfectly. The outside of the steak is seared and full of flavor and the inside of the steak is soft and tender and carries so much flavor. The steak is a perfect standalone plate that require nothing other than someone to share it with and maybe a nice glass of wine

A great place to have a nice intimate dinner. Pasta was great as well as the wine selection. The sommelier takes you and explains to you all the wines and helps you pick the perfect one out based on your tastes as well as what you ordered.

A great experience in Oltrano. We shared the bisteca fiortina and it was amazing. We also loved the part of waking to the wine section to help pick out what we wanted to drink with dinner. Our server recommended the perfect bottle for our meal.

Buried deeper into the neighborhood area/away from the touristy main street of Pitti, this restaurant is a nice change from all the street front seating with a book for a menu. The menu is precise and not overwhelming, though their wine selection is clearly very abundant. You go into what almost feels like a cave based on decor. Intimate setting with just about 8 tables. We ordered a starter and 2 pastas. All were creatively assembled and tasted wonderful. Dishes are portioned on the smaller side. Lastly, this was one of the only restaurants that had really good bread!

Ate dinner here on our last night in Florence. It was a Saturday night and we were able to make a 9:30 reservation the day of. The restaurant is definitely on the nicer side, one of the more refined restaurants we ate at in Italy. The interior is beautiful, exposed brick and dimmed lighting. A very nice setting for our last evening in Florence! Out of all the restaurants I visited in my 10 day trip to Italy, this restaurant had the friendliest staff. We were warmly welcomed at the door and our waiter was helpful with the menu. There is no wine menu but rather you choose your wine from a wine cellar. The Sommelier was knowledgeable and very helpful. For dinner we ordered a ricotta filled crepe to start. The menu called it out as a traditional Tuscan dish. It was filled with ricotta and topped with a rich tomato sauce and mozzarella. It was good, but I probably wouldn't order again. We then ordered a steak. What I liked about this restaurant is the steak came with 3 seasonal sides - white beans, sauteed cabbage, and roasted potatoes. The steak was delicious, and tasted even better with the dry red Chianti we picked out, but it wasn't the best steak I had in Florence. The edge peices were overcooked, and all of the fat had been cut off before it was cooked which i think deprived the meat of some flavor. Overall, it was a very good experience. I would recommend!

Excellent restaurant You need reservation Thanks to my daughter we had one The wild boar "stew" was delicious though I believe it needed more boar In the stew We also had a pasta plate This also was very good It was called machiante- forgive my italian my inglish not work very well here There was a flan with rice. Don't order it wait until you go to Texas Or Mexico The beef tartar was excellent The wine was local and was a light Chianti. It went well with the small boar portions The price was also light. For my daughter and I was 80 euros The tiramisu was different. I tasted better Ambience was rocky-- rock decorations--looks different Music nice- modern jazz Clean restaurant Clean restrooms Waiters did their job -5 stars Except for the flan with rice the restaurant was 5 stars Call me nosy but 4 other customers ordered the flan with rice (trattoria with rice). and did not finish it like us. It needs more sweetness and softness just like when you touched your wife's hand for the first time. ;-) and well you can finish this review yourself but do it with amore.

Situated just a few blocks off the river in the Oltrarno... this place is a fantastic choice for a great authentic night out in Florence. The room is tastefully done and very comfortable, the food is a great variety of very approachable stuff that everyone will really like. Homemade pastas and a few steak dishes were all spectacular. My favorite part of the night was choosing the wine...which is a experience all by itself... Pick right from the cellar... you should give it a try. Because of the cool, young owners that have a great understanding of the local food scene, and the Innovative wine program offer... this restaurant was one of our favorites in all of Italy. A clear standout in Florence!

We thought our meal was good overall. Every table in the restaurant was full of Americans - not sure if that's a good or bad sign? Our waiter Cosimo had rather cold mannerism (the restaurant's Instagram account introduces him as having "warm, welcoming character" - maybe he was having a bad day. On the other hand, Lorenzo helped us with wine selection and he was fantastic. The pasta dishes were just ok, next time we'd just get the steak - it was great

One of the best restaurants for dinner I have been to in Florence. All of the pastas were amazing. They do not have a wine list and instead you get up from the table and go to the back of the restaurant to look at their wine selection. This aspect is very cool and a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I had never experienced something like it.

Had a fabulous dinner here for our last night in Florence. Overall our best meal in Italy. The ambiance is lovely, the food and wine was amazing. We had a stewed pumpkin appetizer and it was honestly one of the best things I've ever eaten. We had a pasta course and for our main entree we shared the Florentine steak. AMAZING. Instead of a wine list they take you back to the cellar after you've ordered to select your wine based on what would pair well. So fun! Would highly recommend!

This was one of our favorite meals in Florence! We ordered prosciutto as a starter, tagliatelle, and the florentine steak as the main. For dessert we shared the panna cotta. For 2 people - we definitely over ordered, but I loved every dish! The steak was AMAZING. I highly recommend - although you need to like your meat medium rare for this dish to make sense to order. Our biggest regret here was we ordered 2 glasses of wine instead of a full bottle (so we missed out on the whole "pick-a-bottle-from-the-wine-fridge" experience). The pricing here is extremely reasonable. We will be back next time we're in Florence!

For our final evening in Florence, we went to Osteria dell'Enoteca, which is not far from the Pitti Palace. Our server, Eduardo, turned out to be one of the four owners. The place is modern and drop-dead gorgeous! We were seated in a dining room with stone walls and vaulted ceiling - so elegant and inviting. Eduardo really took the time to explain everything to us - how the restaurant came to be as well as their food and wine offerings. He really made the evening interesting. We decided to share both a first and second course, which the chef split before serving. His suggestion of the Bolgheri 2014 red wine was spot on and a great accompaniment to our meal. We started with the handmade maccheroncetti pasta in a white ragu of Cinta pork with wild fennel - what a delicious way to start. Then, we had the Chianina Beef Braised in Chianti served with a potato puree - the beef was so tender it melted in your mouth. To finish our meal, we had a selection of cheeses. Our total bill for this wonderful meal was € 60. If you ever get to Florence, check out this restaurant. You will not be disappointed!

My wife and I have been big fans of Pitti Gola e Cantina, a terrific wine bar across from Pitti Palace. When we heard the three owners of Pitti Gola opened a restaurant several blocks from there, we couldn't wait to visit it. We could not have enjoyed our recent dinner there more. The food, decor, ambience and service were incomporable. Perhaps the most fun part of the event was the presentation of the "wine list". Specifically, the evening's host (in this case Manuele) escorts you down the hall to the (very) oversized wine refrigerator. He shows and explains the different options, sizes up your preferences, and is very helpful in suggesting options. So clever, so novel, so fun! All of the favorable comments you hear and read about Osteria dell' Enoteca are accurate - if not understated. If you have the opportunity to try a meal here, make a reservation as soon as possible and...enjoy!!!

My wife and I dined here in mid-October during an anniversary trip. Just plain awesome! Service was terrific. No wine list. The sommelier escorts you to the back of the restaurant where wines are on display. He did a great job of explaining different recommendations based on our meals. We started with rabbit ragout. Off the charts! We shared the traditional Florentine steak. Cooked perfectly! And, oh, so good! The Brunello was a fantastic wine for the meal. Just a terrific way to spend our last evening in Florence. Cannot wait to return! And their wine bar across from the Pitti Palace is a great spot, too!

Found a wine in their wine case visiting the Osteria the night before a dinner reservation I had there. It was rare and way below market price. I informed them of the wine and was met with mockery and offered to reserve the wine for my dinner the next night. I said if your certain I will gladly purchase the wine for my dinner the next night Upon my arrival a different owner had no idea about the wine. We both went to the case to discover that the wine I agreed to buy was back in the case with the price doubled. I know what they paid for the wine and know they were not losing money on the original price I'm in the wine business and have known them for years and consider them friends. To dishonor a price that was agreed upon was a complete lack of integrity on their part. What a way to lose a friend and customer.

A recent venture from the same team that runs Pitti Gola E Cantina just up the road. The wine wall is a destination in itself. The onion flan is fantastic. Make a reservation! Then just put yourself in their hands.

While the food was excellent and the atmosphere excellent , the wait staff was pretentious , rude and at times difficult. They made our experience at time unenjoyable. My family said they would never go back and it's is a same cause the food was fantastic.

Amazing everything. Service was courteous friendly professional and knowledgeable. Food was just perfect. Highly recommend the t bone that was cooked to perfection. Much care is taken by staff to pick the wine for your dinner. We ordered a Chianti and a sparkling rose. They both did not disappoint and reasonably priced. Prices on point. Ambiance comfortable . We will be back.

My husband and I were very disappointed with our dinner experience last Monday evening. We have been to Florence several times and have always enjoyed finding new places in the Altorno. While the food was at best ok the service was terrible. We were virtually ignored by our watier and when he did pay attention to us , he was rude. We lived and worked in New York for many years and we are used to excellent restaurants and excellent service, We also love Il Santo Bevitore in the Altorno. This restaurant does not come up to the standards of these restaurants even though it purports to be in the same class. I realize that the portions for the non steak entrees are rather small but my husband's fish was miniscule. I was quite surprised when, later looking at pictures on their web site, that a portion twice the size of my husband's dish was represented. Also, our waiter treated us as if we were rather stupid (perhaps he thought that we were dumb Americans, not worthy of his attention.) Obviously, we will not be returning and certainly will not recommend it to any of our friends who will be visiting Florence . Barbara Ziernicki

Recommended to us by our BnB host, we decided to give it a try. We got steak to share, ravioli,tiramisu and a lovely brunello wine. Food was exquisite. Service was good and staff were friendly. Lovely atmosphere- romantic without being stuffy. Highly recommend! .

Our favorite meal in all of Italy! First of all, a great wine selection and recommendation! We had the onion and cheese flan (my mouth is watering just thinking about it), a goose confit over pasta, wild boar with polenta, and THE BEST STEAK I'VE EVER EATEN! Yes, they know to cook meat in Florence, and this restaurant takes it to a new level. We finished our meal with a yum orange crime brûlée, which was a nice way to end the perfect meal. We will be going back to Florence next year, and this is a definite repeat. Highly recommend!
