Ai Artisti - Review - Dorsoduro - Venice - The Infatuation

"The menu here leans more modern bistro than traditional trattoria, but that is very much not a bad thing. They serve plates of ravioli with wild garlic cream and stilton and perfectly cooked lamb chops with creamy broad beans. But we are in Venice after all, so you can expect plates of crudo and seasonal seafood specials that are worth ordering. The dining room is tiny and snug, perfect for a romantic lunch. There’s also a slim row of tables along the water that are pretty dreamy on a warm evening. Because of how small it is, you’ll need a reservation." - Gillian McGuire

23 Best Restaurants in Venice

"Ai Artisti, a welcoming little place serving remarkably good food, has a few little tables alongside a quiet canal and a handful more in a compact dining room. Ingredients are mostly local and very fresh. But unusual things happen to old favorites here with delicious results; say, the secoe (veal cartilage, a Venetian tradition) made into a salad with beans and sesame seeds, and the pasta with sausage and green peppers." - Anne Hanley

I had the pleasure of celebrating my wife’s birthday at an amazing restaurant recommended by our foot tour guide in Venice. It turned out to be a fantastic choice—the food was absolutely incredible. The beetroot spaghetti was bursting with flavor, and the ceviche was unbelievably fresh. I highly recommend this spot to anyone visiting Venice—they won’t be disappointed. Just a heads-up, the restaurant is cozy, so be sure to make a reservation in advance!

Google
A Hidden Gem in Venice! Where to begin…this intimate restaurant (just 10 tables!) was the highlight of our trip to Venice. A reservation is a must, and absolutely worth it. The service was exceptional: warm, attentive, and detail-oriented. We shared the beef tartare, ricotta ravioli, and the catch of the day—each dish was delicious, with the fish being the standout. Don’t skip dessert: the tiramisu was the best we had in Italy, and the wild strawberry sorbet was perfectly refreshing. Reasonably priced for such a high-quality experience. 100% recommend!

Google
A beautiful restaurant with a calm atmosphere - lovely for a dinner and located in a nice area. The staff were so friendly and accommodating, and kind to tourists which made everyone feel very welcome. The food was lovely but portions a bit small and not loads of options. Would absolutely recommend!

Google
I struggle to understand why so many people keep giving this restaurant 5 stars, we expected much more for the price we paid. Seven raviolis for 22€, three strips of duck breast for 30€, 2 glasses of wine and a Tiramisu (which was very good) - we left hungrier than when we came. Food quality is there, but quantities are disappointing. Waiters kept asking us if we wanted more food or drinks, making us feel uncomfortable for saying no.

Google
Lovely find! The food was exquisite. I had a unique curry pasta that was amazing. Pasta was home made. My wife had the spaghetti with white fish. It was all delicious.

Amazing food with an amazing Franco superb waiter. Lobster linguine is a must. Bit messy but mamma mia.

Google
This restaurant was a true pleasure to dine in. It started with such a warm welcome and every course seemed like it was a gift from the chef to us. The pasta was so perfect that I was lost in all the delicate flavors in my mouth. The fish was cooked to perfection with all its flavors locked into one perfect fillet on a plate. To top everything the ambience was so homely and the service was exceptional. This place may be a small restaurant but some good things in life come in little packages. I would certainly recommend this restaurant as a must visit while in Venice

Google
We first visited a few years ago and the food was amazing, this time again it was just as good. We started with the most wonderful fish carpaccio, the best we have had in Venice. Then a fish dish of ombrina with Jerusalem artichoke cream and cime di rapa. Absolutely delicious, so fresh and imaginative. The attention to details is faultless. The service is friendly and informative, and we were recommended an interesting wine to accompany our meal. A wonderful evening in Venice. Thank you.

Yelp
One of the best meals we had in Venice and on this trip to Italy. A tiny, intimate place with just a few tables. Serves well-presented quality dishes, with seating in its tight interior or few petite romantic canal-side tables. Great selection of wines, we had a seafood crudo plate that was beautiful and amazing. I had a squid ink seafood pasta, and my husband had a spaghetti w/long thin clams that was incredible. Absolutely recommend, and look forward to returning on our next trip!

Yelp
One of the best meals in Venezia! The pasta was incredible, fresh flavor, well prepared and beautifully presented. I loved the Maltagliata with the shrimp, white cabbage and black cabbage pesto and my friend ordered the tortellini / delicious! Finished with the tiramisu- lovely dessert! 5 stars! Ambiance- the cute cozy dining room was that crowded for lunch today. Service was excellent- lucky I was with my Italian friend otherwise the waiter spoke no English, 5 stars

Yelp
Best food experience in Venice! Must have reservation small restaurant limited seats. Thanks for let us experience your food.

Yelp
Not just one of the best meals we had in Venice, but one of the best meals of my life! I will continue to dream about the appetizer with mixed crudo and different flavors of mayonnaise. Who knew raw shrimp could taste so sweet? Everything we tried was refined and interesting, but very satisfying. I am not really a dessert person, but the cherry tart we shared was incredible! Make a reservation and go!

Yelp
Wonderful meal and service! We were served a tiny delicious bowl of gazpacho that was the best I ever had... followed by scallops with white asparagus sauce, and a gentle white fish fillet with green asparagus. Finished with an amazing tiramisu. Go here!

Korby P.

Yelp
Spine-tingly scrumptious. Warm, romantic, unforgettable. Call ahead for reservations and don't hesitate to take one of the two back tables if that's all they have.
google avatar

Yelp
Incredible experience. Probably some of the best food I've had in all of Italy - intimate and small setting but incredible seafood dishes. I loved the grey mallet, focaccia, caprese, and pastas. The tiramisu was also perfect!

Yelp
Kiko and Maria are the best! This place really made our trip. Creative dishes with local flavor. Great wine selection and the staff really goes the extra mile. Make reservations!

Yelp
What an absolute gem! Highly recommended to call and make reservations The door was amazing, we ended up getting a last minute table outside. But shortly after they were kind enough to move us inside. We got wonderful service with a perfect ambiance. It is a small restaurant along a side canal with a few tables along the water and several more inside. We went at night so the alleyway wasn't busy with tourists coming and going. We went twice, once on a Monday night and our last time on a Friday night. They are known for their seafood, but since the fish market is closed on Mondays they didn't have any fish on their menu. That's why we returned back on Friday! Each dish is more wonderful then their last. The pasta was fresh and perfectly al dente , the meat juicy and tender, and the fish fresh and perfectly seared. To top it off, the tiramisu was out of this world and all their other deserts! The service was warm and engaging! They spoke multiple languages comfortably to make their costumers feel right at home.

Yelp
We passed this place by during lunch hour and was lucky to get a reservation for the same evening. We got a table close to the bathroom but it was still very nice. We got a plate of scallops for an appetizer with glasses of Pinot Noir and bread with local vinegar and olive oil. Yum, yum, yum. For the main entrees, my son got Penne, I got Ravioli, and my hubby got a fish of the day. They were all delicious. The restaurant owner and staff members were friendly and prompt. Ambience was lovely and romantic, bathroom was clean and the location couldn't be better!

Yelp
Excellent food. The best meal in Venice. Mixed raw fish appetizer was excellent. Call for reservations.

Yelp
Our lunch at Enoteca ai Artisti was our most memorable meal in Venice! The food, the atmosphere, the service, the wine -- everything about our experience at Enoteca ai Artisti was spectacular. Because I read online that reservations were preferred at Enoteca ai Artisti, our B&B (Palazzo Odoni) was kind enough to call Enoteca ai Artisti and make reservations for us. The interior at Enoteca ai Artisti is very cozy and quaint. The restaurant probably holds only about 20 people or so. For lunch, we enjoyed: - Fried scallops with baby asparagus and a lemon cream sauce: So much flavor and such fresh scallops! - Egg noodle pasta with beef and peppers: My husband cleaned his plate in a heartbeat. - Spaghetti with shrimp in a shrimp sauce: Extremely fresh shrimp! The sauce itself was made from shrimp head stock. The whole dish was shrimpy and delightful. - Tiramisu: A very delicious end to a great meal. - Local Venezia wine: We split a bottle of this and loved it. Our server spoke English fairly well. He was very personable, friendly and attentive. If and when I return to Venice, I'm absolutely making reservations again to enjoy another meal at Enoteca ai Artisti.

Yelp
Wow!! This place had the best pasta seafood ever. We also tried the fish filet john dory with tomatoes and capers. That was very good as well. The sauce is light but the flavor from oil and fresh veggies and spices makes it so delicious. Yum!! Next time I am here in Venice, i'll definitely be making reservations here! By the way, they close at 10:30. You can make reservations either for 7 or 9 bc limited table space. Only 4 tables outside and a handful inside. The waiter spoke excellent English and was very friendly.

Yelp
The best meal that I experienced in Venice. There are only a few outdoor tables available so we decided to show up for lunch the minute that the restaurant opened. My wife and I had the Venetian seafood antipasti, mushroom and artichoke taglietelle and John Dory. All three were five-star dishes in my opinion. The seafood platter made me a bit nervous initially as it had a whole baby octopus and squid eggs among other things but one bite of them immediately had me hooked. My favorite was the cod mousse though. It was so creamy and just the right amount of saltiness. I frequently see John Dory in cookbooks but had never tried it before so I was really curious about it. I couldn't think of a better way to have John Dory for the first time. I also didn't realize that the vegetables were white asparagus because I hate regular asparagus so I was surprised to find out later that the delicious vegetables was asparagus. The service is really good here. The gentleman that served us mainly spoke Italian but he was very nice and patient despite my limited Italian skills.

Yelp
The fact that Ai Artisti does not serve fish on the day that Rialto fish market is closed tells one how fresh its seafood is. Therefore, we only ordered the seafood items on the menu plus desserts. We had: * Octopus and Sweet Potatoes Salad with Celery, Paprika, and Anchovy Mayonnaise * Sea Bass and Greens with Lime Vinaigrette and Pistachio Mayonnaise * Scallops au Gratin with Squash and Chicory * Swordfish Steak with Roasted Peppers, Cauliflower, and Anduja Mayonnaise * Green Apple Bread Pudding with Mascarpone and Pistachios * Peach Soup with Fennel Ice Cream and Pistachio Crumble Every bite was delicious ad beautiful...I cannot decide if I like the flavors or plating better.

Yelp
Great find on a canal. Never tried Veal Cartilage before, very good. Duck Ravioli and Beef Carpaccio were divine as was everything we tried. Lots of locals who said it was the best, everything good they said and they were right. A bit pricey but worth it.

Yelp
We were lucky to get the strong recommendation to dine at Ai Artisti. The restaurant is quite small so reservations are necessary. We decided to share all of our courses. Our starter of the scallops was outstanding. The pasta with oil and peppers is a tradition and was very good. Our main course was the Branzino which was perfectly prepared. The desert was recommended by the staff; sherbet with chocolate sauce. Overall one of our best meals in Venice.
google avatar

Yelp
Everything was so fantastic! Excellent classic Venetian dishes with a modern spin. The chef is actually Japanese and makes the most beautiful raw dishes I have seen in Venice. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a fantastic meal.

Yelp
My two cents, aiming to provide information to make a decision: this is a good restaurant, good food, good service, but it is a little too expensive for what it is. The whole experience was great: the wine was perfectly recommended by the waiter who had a look like a sommelier. We liked it. Our antipasti was the octopus salad. This one made me frown in disapproval, scarce pieces of octopus, a few potatoes. Great presentation, but I would have added more. Flavor wise, it wasn't very impressive. Our main dishes were much better, though. "Tuna variation" and a fish with pesto sauce and vegetables with great presentation and great mix of flavors. See the pictures. Finally, we ordered desserts, I was disappointed with a tiramisu that was not made with liquor, I have had many that were better than this one, but my girl ordered some creamy thing with blueberry that was pretty good. Total: 120€. Not the cheapest of meals, nor outrageously expensive. The worst is the small portions. The best, the good wine and care to detail on the main dish especially.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I had a nice romantic meal Very tasty, nice staff and cool location. Yummi

Yelp
My favorite restaurant out of all the ones we ate at on my recent trip to Rome, Florence and Venice. A small restaurant with about 12 seats inside and five two seaters outside by the canal. Service is adequate. Food is bomb! We got three dishes to share: Seafood crudo was of sea bream, another type of fish and shrimp. This is a must get at €16. So fresh, so good. Shrimp was sweet. Pasta with shrimp and zucchini was light and filling at the same time. Great flavor. Not overwhelming at all. John Dory with olives and tomatoes. This was another great dish. Bursts with flavor. Just look at the pictures I took of those three, you really must get them. Yum!

Yelp
We haven't heard many great things about food in Venice. People seem to complain a lot about the overpriced mediocre food. That was not the case at Al-Artiste. This was probably our favorite meal and restaurant in all of Italy that we've tried. Maybe it was because we had such low expectations deviating from our original plan or maybe it was because it was our first meal after a long ride. - The crudo of langoustine, sea bass and seabream was simply amazing. Everything was so fresh. You know how you watch food shows and you hear them say how sweet the langoustine meat is raw? You'd probably wonder how the F can raw meat from a langoustine be sweet. Well it is. The meat was sweet and the brain and guys almost tasted like candy. - The prawns with linguine and zucchini was one of my favorite pastas. It was so flavorful. The mixed in zucchini was a great look and taste - The John Dory was this amazing fish dish with this incredible, incredible, incredible sauce. With olives, tomatoes, potatoes and this beautiful tomato based sauce. It was the first time I used the crappy bread to soak up the sauce. Definitely come here.

Yelp
Artisti was well worth the treck to the other part of Venice. Be sure to get reservations well in advance - there's only about 6 tables and a group of 10 would be the largest seatable. We watched many people get turned away. Service was excellent. Menu comes in English and French also. Several people had the shrimp with spaghetti which was popular and delicious.
google avatar

Anita L.

Yelp
Excellent evening in Venice - food, wine service all good! Will be back next time I'm in the city.
google avatar

Debbie R.

Yelp
We really lucked out getting a table here without a reservation. The server was super helpful and friendly. The food was incredible. The ravioli and gnocchi were both really good primi dishes. The beef secondi dish was the best beef dish I've had in a long time. Though I can't describe how it was prepared exactly, I can say it was cooked perfectly and the flavors were complex. The tiramisu was amazing. I highly recommend this restaurant if you have the opportunity to dine here.
google avatar

Marc R.

Yelp
The lunch amazing! Gazpacho "Bloody Mary style" not really spicy but almost too beautiful to eat! The ravioli also superb. Worth wandering all over to find this place!!
google avatar

Joshua B.

Yelp
It took three trips to Venice to finally get a reservation here and it was for lunch. Wow totally worth the wait. Everything was spectacular. The turbot was melt in your mouth delicious. The octopus salad was so tender. The spaghetti with shrimp was prepared to perfection.
google avatar

Muliadi B.

Yelp
Food was incredibly delicious. Had the Calamari Scottati for appetizer, the calamari was so tender and the vegetables that came with it just complement the dish. For main course had the sea bass, it tasted so good. The fish is grilled to perfection. Didnt had the desert as are too full.
google avatar

Eric L.

Yelp
Top meal in Venice! We had the fried anchovies - not salty and not crusty. Very delicate and satisfying portion. Then we had pasta with tomato sauce. Simple but awesome. Finished with John Dory with tomatoes, capers, olives and grilled vegetables. So good I took a picture. As for atmosphere, noisy. There a 3 tables outside by the canal that might be quieter. Come for the food not the ambiance.
google avatar

Roman K.

Yelp
What an amazing place. Everything we tried was just superb. Best dinner in Italy. Recommend to make a reservation.

Jenny H.

Yelp
Charming restaurant with a great atmosphere and the staff were very friendly. We went without a reservation and were lucky to get the last table. We ordered the venetian style beef cartilage and the squid ink pasta - both were standard. We told the staff we wanted to share the pasta and it came nicely split on two plates, which was a nice touch.
google avatar

Dallas K.

Yelp
This was definitely our favorite place in Venice to eat and one of the best places we ate overall on our 2 week trip to Italy. Actually, one of the desserts was my favorite I've ever had because it wasn't over-sweetened like most desserts are. Every dish we ate was fantastic and unique, and it felt like truly inspired local food. It wasn't the typical spaghetti with clams we saw elsewhere. It was absolutely worth the price. Also, the servers were very nice and helpful and were able to make very good wine recommendations. They gracefully put up with our limited Italian mixed with English.
google avatar

Jon C.

Yelp
After more than a few misses in Venice with overpriced, under-performing meals, Ai Artisti nailed a great combination of inventive, updated Italian classics featuring seasonal products with top-notch, warm service and good value. We shared a varied cheese-and-meat plate, a salad (off menu, but great), and amazing house-made butternut squash gnocchi in a cream sauce. Many wines available by the glass or bottle, a small selection of Italian beer, and a wide selection of digestifs. It's a great space to sit and watch the people traffic as you polish off a glass of wine.

Luann P.

Yelp
Elegant and refined! One of our best meals in Venice. It was recommended to us by a newlywed couple from Washington DC that we met in Florence while on a hike to Forte de Belvedere! They were here twice while in Venice with good reason! We had swordfish with fresh vegetables and avocado and pasta with sausage. Perfectly cooked, beautifully presented. Excellent service. Thank you!
google avatar

James I.

Yelp
Wonderful canal-side dining. A bit more romantic and upscale than most of the eateries in the area. Small, requires reservations, excellent food. The waiter was particularly helpful and gave us excellent suggestion on wines.

Alex X.

Yelp
Do not follow the Yelp map. You will end up 15 minutes away. I assume the food is good, never made our reservation..Thanks Yelp.
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
The food is average for the price. However, the obnoxious, inconsiderate, and arrogant wait staff make a horrible combination. A family meal was completely ruined. Left a bad taste in my mouth - figuratively and literally. I can not recommend this place. There are much tastier, equally-priced, and more pleasant restaurants nearby.
google avatar

Philip B.

Yelp
Excellent, small but friendly restaurant in Venice. The seafood is very fresh and delicious and the wines are great too. This is the best food we had in Venice with all its tourist trap restaurants. This is definitely not a tourist trap. We skipped desert so can't critique that. The only issue giving this 4 stars instead of 5 is the bread was not fresh. Reserve ahead of time as walk ins aren't usually seated.

Deborah M.

Yelp
Well conceived and beautifully executed and plated dishes that seem to utilize traditional Venetzian ingredients to very fine effect. Not great for kids, as it's a little fan
google avatar

Bill Q.

Yelp
Dinner canal side was very nice. We ordered the daily fish specials and were rewarded with lovely, nicely prepared angler fish and swordfish. The seafood misto platter was fantastic and included everything from small, sweet shrimp to cuttlefish roe. This was one of our better dinners in Venice. Reservations are a good idea.

Yelp
The only genuine local place to eat I found in our visit to the city. Honestly, in a city like Venice - where most of the eateries are oriented toward tourists (NB: high on the portion size, low on the food quality) - its really hard to find a genuine restaurant where food is held at a premium. Osteria Enteco Ai Artisti is such a place. The chef sources local seafood and produce and puts together a menu that focuses on the best the sea and land have to offer in the area. We had a delightful lunch with our 6-year old daughter. The meal, highlighted by a seafood stew and squid/cauliflower soup, was a mix of seafood protein and Italian starch. The gnocchi was the best we've ever had - truly a culinary delicacy. The wine selection is extensive (especially as compared to other osteria in the city) and included wines from Slovenia and Croatia. We had a fabulous limoncello to cap the meal. All and all this place is well worth the stop and has a great mix of hospitality (its a super small restaurant and tends to fill-up with reservations early) and fine dining. As for price-point - its a bit more than a lot of the other restaurants in the city . . . but don't let that deter you, as it is truly worth the extra Euro.

Yelp
This place was delicious! Husband and I ordered three dishes to share and their house wine. We got a burrata, a ricotta pasta, and the dorey fish. All were delicious and the place is adorable. Great service.
google avatar

Chris C.

Yelp
This place was fantastic! The owner is adorable and super friendly, as are all the servers. The place is tiny and cozy so you definitely need a reservation (same-day was fine for us). Everyone spoke English well. They recommended great wine with our meals, and the fish dishes were delicious -- fresh, flavorful, not huge portions. Great stuff. We were a little bummed that we didn't think to order some grappa after our meal, and then, out of the blue, two glasses of grappa showed up! I'm pretty sure they didn't overhear us talking about it, but either way -- either they were perfect mind-readers, or really generous. Definitely our favorite meal in our three days in Venice.
google avatar

Jackie H.

Yelp
Best meal we had in Venice! Service was wonderful and mussel and clam broth was one of the best I have ever had. Highly recommend their homemade Amaro as well! We were able to book a reservation one night before but this place fills up fast so book early.

Yelp
First trip back to Venezia in about 20 years, which is a tricky town for eating well--and were totally happy to find Ai Artisti in the still lovely Dorsoduro area. Stopped by aro lunchtime and made a reservation for 8:30pm inside--it's small so this is a good idea. There's a steady stream of folks walking by to the Campo St Barnaba all evening, so we preferred to sit inside the restaurant--as it happened, it rained, so the 3-4 small tables by the small canal weren't an option anyway by the time we arrived. The inside is charming, European cozy, and although we always try to start in Italian, the waitstaff were fluent in English and helpful with wine recommendations. We both started w/one of the pastas (cappesante or scallops for me!), and both were delicate and not too huge. It being Venice and strong on fish, we went for the secondi fish dishes--bronzino for me and John Dory (forget the Italian) for my DC. The John Dory was lovely, but the bronzino was a tiny bit sweeter and more delicate. Both cooked well and yet quite different in flavor. Our waiter recommended 2 local white wines--one he said was a bit more mineral-ly and one that was a pinot grigio varietal--which I wanted to try. He'd explained it was a bit older and when it came the color was quite golden and it went very well w/our dinners. I would completely trust their suggestions for wine. We shared a wonderful dessert of yogurt and marscapone w/wild woods fruits--frutti di bosco--that was just right without being too rich or too sweet--something to try at home! It's not cheap (it's Venice!), but seemed reasonable for service, location, quality of food. Coming from the states we were delighted that many of the good wines were priced aro 20-30 Euros--(Locals sometimes think that's pricey--but it's way better than most US restaurants charge). This one stays on our list.

Yelp
One of the worst experiences at a restaurant in Venice. Their menu was different than what was on the menu outside. I had already ordered water and cocktails and looked at the menu and somebody in our party couldn't find anything to eat. We decided only to order appetizers instead eating at place that somebody at our party wouldn't eat. When I tried to order only appetizers they were incredulous. I tried to explain that we were only getting appetizers and the cocktails we ordered and they got mad. I asked for the check and tried to avoid the awkwardness of telling them that we didn't find their menu was unappealing. But the guy keep being rude and basically saying this was a restaurant and not a bar. Very rude and snobby. The only way to avoid further discussion was to just ask for the check. Overall terrible experience and not worth it.

Yelp
I found this place on yelp and we made reservations. My boyfriend and I were very satisfied customers at the end of our meal. The staff was very friendly, welcoming, and professional. We had the octopus as an appetizer. I had branzino (it was the most deliciously prepared branzino I have ever had) and my boyfriend had tagliatelle con granzeola. The portions are small but we truly enjoyed our meals and I am so happy that I found this place on yelp. I would highly recommend visiting this restaurant if you want authentic Italian food.

Yelp
Must try tiramisu, intimate cozy atmosphere. Some portions are pretty small though. Good wine and prompt service. A bit on the pricey side...

Yelp
This was my first stop in Venice. It was amazing from start to finish. The food was amazing as well as the wine selection. Trust, you will enjoy! It was so good I forgot to take a pic of the food!
