SF’s Best Casual Neighborhood Sushi Spots - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"Otoro is a bit on the nicer end of the casual sushi spectrum - by which we mean you can make reservations. This Hayes spot is a great option for a laid-back lunch or dinner. Or hit it solo and eat at the bar, so you won’t need to share your spicy scallops with a date you only moderately care about seeing again." - Taylor Abrams, Will Kamensky

Google
I hit up this sushi spot and it was pretty solid. And it's actually affordable for SF. I wouldn't say anything blew my mind, but I'm definitely down for a second visit. So we got several special rolls - Dragon, Spicy Crunchy Tuna, and a few others. The fish quality was alright and they didn't skimp on the rice, which is always a plus. The Spicy Crunchy Tuna ended up being our favorite - it wasn't too spicy, but had just the right amount of crunch. The salmon on the Golden State roll was seared perfectly, but it was a bit too lemon-y for my taste. Service was pretty good and the indoor seating was nice and cozy. Plus, they had plenty of outdoor seating and it was well lit. Overall, a decent spot for some sushi and chill vibes.

Google
Such a lovely spot. My partner and I came here before a concert with a reservation. It wasn’t too busy on a Monday evening. We got carried away and ordered so much. Really decent prices and quality food. Karaage was crispy. Tempura was light. Sushi tasted fresh. Treated ourselves to some otoro 🤠 Would come back!

Neftali Alverio

Google
Some of the best and freshest sushi i have had. I recommend the proto, yellowtail belly and blue fin. The tuna poke and seaweed salad were also excellent. The space itself isn't much to look at it but do not let that deter you from giving it a try.

Google
The food here is very fresh and high quality. I was amazed by the varieties of toro. Bluefin tuna toro, yellowfin tuna toro, hamachi belly etc. the also have various types of snapper, eg golden eye snappers, cherry snapper. All are tasted.

Google
Solid sushi place is SF. Good outdoor seating and friendly staff. Food quality fluctuating a bit.

Google
Very nice experience and good quality fish. Some creative rolls and dishes made this place a bit more unique. The salmon on a slab of Himalayan sea salt was my favorite, along with the toro. It’s a bit pricy, but worth it. I would definitely go back here again.

Google
Ok, this place I delicious! What can I say?! The smoked salmon on the salt slab was BEAUTIFUL and delicious 😭 The house sake was hot as usual. But that chef selection was visually and flavor-fully on point. Many fish I had yet to try, all laid and paired beautifully - no soy sauce required for these clean fishies. Happy to go back and happy to recommend if you're looking for some beautiful food and welcoming hosts.

The food was really great, I particularly loved the Hayes Valley roll

Yelp
My friend and I tried this spot out for dinner since it had been getting some good reviews on social media. I made reservations for 8pm on a Friday, but there were many open tables while we were there. It's not a huge place, so I still recommend making a rez if you go during peak dining hours. The restaurant has an intimate and cozy ambiance and I liked the simple décor. We split the soft shell crab appetizer, snow white roll, and hip hop roll. Both of the rolls were pretty small, they had tiny portions of rice and fish. Despite their small size, they were both pretty good with fresh cuts of fish and complementary toppings and sauce. The soft shell crab dish was a nice portion of crab that sat on top of a bed of lettuce. I liked the fragrant garlic and chilies it was cooked with, there were some bites with a kick! Overall, it was a solid dinner but not sure it quite stands out in the SF scene with so many other sushi restaurants. Glad I gave this spot a try, if I was in the area I wouldn't mind coming back.

Yelp
Truly a hidden gem of hayes valley. The freshest sashimi and most flavorful eggplant is from O-Toro Sushi. The restaurant itself is small but service is always attentive and accommodating. The Nasu Den eggplant converted me from an eggplant adversary to an eggplant enthusiast. The flavor is unlike anything I've had, a savory and sweet miso glaze. The texture is not mushy and is quite tender. We return for the eggplant regularly. Their specialty rolls are delightful as well. There is something for everyone on this menu. Agedashi Tofu, miso soup, and yakitori are our go to appetizers due to how delicious each dish is. Every piece of sashimi is fresh and flavorful. Sake and saba nigiri are always in my order.

Yelp
Stopped by for a weekday dinner with friends to satisfy a sushi craving. I've been here once a year ago or so and remembered the rolls being decent. The karaage was the best dish of the night. The rolls were all ok - nothing blew my mind and I felt they were all a bit soft? The otoro nigiri was great but sadly the salmon belly nigiri was a miss. Didn't feel half as fresh as the otoro. The vibes inside were cozy and they have outdoor seating as well. However, I'd pass on returning again for the price point and visit other spots in the area.

Yelp
Was desperately in need of sushi in Hayes Valley and stumbled upon O-Toto sushi! Ended up being a great place for a small meal. Nabeyaki udon - 8/10: Just some plain Nabeyaki udon, I feel like it's hard to get udon wrong especially at a sushi joint. Nothing special so just 8/10. California roll - 6/10: I'll take the slander for this one, I don't like real crab in my sushi. I prefer imitation... so this one wasn't my favorite especially since I was expecting imitation crab. I will say the rice to filling ratio is on point here. Otoro roll - 10/10: definitely a must try if you like spicy tuna and mango. The combination goes really well together (spicy and sweet). I wish I ordered more of this considering I had to share it -_- Salmon nigiri - 10/10: AMAZINGGGG and fresh salmon nigiri. I ordered 2 orders because the first one was just so good. All in all a good place to get sushi, but didn't stand out to the point where I would go out of my way to come here again unless I'm in the area.

Yelp
O-Toro is my go-to sushi spot in the area. This place is pretty popular, so I recommend making a reservation ahead of time if you don't want to wait to be seated indoors. For context, I've only ever walked in around peak dinnertime without a reservation, so I've only been able to dine outdoors. So far, I've tried the edamame, gyoza, chicken karaage, shishito pepper, cucumber salad, seaweed salad, rainbow roll, hip hop roll, cherry blossom roll, and crunchy spicy tuna roll. I highly recommend the hip hop roll, which is made with shrimp tempura and avocado inside, topped with garlic white tuna. I'd skip the rainbow roll, which I usually enjoy at most sushi spots, but it just missed the mark here and didn't taste that good or fresh.

Yelp
Favorite sushi spot in the city. The quality is amazing but no one seems to know about this place!

Yelp
Wow, the food was so delicious I was a bad Yelper and jumped on everything that came to the table! We ordered Tamago, salmon skin roll, a pumpkin tempura roll, a roasted eggplant roll, and a roll called lava to share. I ordered a cup of miso soup, my dinner dates ordered the seaweed salad, and cucumber salad respectively. Everything and I mean everything was stunning. The Tamago was the greatest surprise for me. I haven't ordered it in over ten years but decided to try it tonight and I'm SO glad I did. It's a beautiful egg sandwich/pocket of goodness with the rice in the middle kept together with the seaweed sash. Perfectly cooked with the right amount of fluffy texture and sweetness. The eggplant sushi roll felt next level deliciousness! It was marinated and amazing. It's been over a week since I went here and I'm still talking about and fantasizing about this eggplant role. The eggplant was served like unagi on top of the roll and I have to tell you - this is a missed opportunity for more places to jump on this bandwagon. Great service, friendly staff, accommodating - wonderful experience all around.

Yelp
Solid casual sushi spot and pretty affordable for SF! I don't think anything here blew my mind, but I wouldn't mind paying O-Toro a second visit. For appetizer we ordered the tempura and the Nasu Den (eggplant with miso sauce). Tempura was good, no complaints. The eggplant was...very interesting. It had really great flavor but the texture was overcooked? I'm not sure if it was supposed to be mushy like that. For me, it was too squishy, maybe because of the way they sliced the eggplant so thin. We also ordered four special rolls: Dragon, Golden State, Omega Spicy, and Cherry Blossom. Fish quality was okay, the ratio of rice to sashimi was good. The Omega Spicy was not spicy at all but it ended up being my table's favorite roll. The salmon was seared perfectly! I am a salmon fan, so I thought I would like the Golden State roll since it has fresh salmon on top...but I actually thought it was too lemon-y for me. The quality of the salmon wasn't good enough to carry the simplicity of the roll. The plating was okay, the rolls all came on random plates (see my photo attached). Our service was good. The indoor ambiance was cozy. The outdoors had plenty of seating and was well lit. Pickiness aside, I had a good dinner here! I can see myself coming back if I'm ever in the area so I can try more menu items. O-Toro was really busy on a Friday night, make sure to make reservations ahead of time!

Yelp
One of my new favorite sushi spots in SF! They have the most fresh fish and have excellent staff. I'll be coming here every time I'm in the area.

Yelp
10/10 sushi spot!!! The service was great at this place, and the two rolls that we got were the lava roll and the dreamy sensation. Lava roll had tuna on the top, and it was really good, melt in your mouth! Agedashi tofu was phenomenal, super crispy tofu. The shishito peppers were ok, might not order again.

Yelp
BIG BIG fan of this place! I looove coming here for a casual sushi dinner that won't break the bank. I always take friends visiting here since it's a great lowkey place to eat some sushi and gossip lol. I know this might be controversial but I actually love ~ fun ~ rolls even though they're not traditional and O-Toro always delivers on fun sushi roll combinations. Tried the agedashi tofu this time I went and it was delicious, also got one of the special rolls (spicy hamachi) and it was delicious as well!! The servers are really nice and the prices are reasonable for San Francisco. I would highly recommend this place for anyone looking to get casual, good quality sushi!

Yelp
Otoro was the perfect spot for my sister's birthday sushi tradition! We had the Otoro roll, JalehamaAgedashi TofuAgedashi Tofu, the Takashi roll and the agedashi tofu. The tofu was so flavorful, a perfect starter and the rolls were each unique, different from one another and super fresh. We also had the salmon skin roll which was good but not my favorite. Add some Sapporo and Nigiri sake and it was an excellent night. All staff were friendly and professional.

Yelp
It was my first time trying O-Toro Sushi, which happens to be down the street from my apartment, and wow! They definitely fulfilled all my sushi cravings. I ordered take-out using the Yelp. Ordering was super easy and my food was prepared fairly quickly (within 30-45mins). Once it was ready, I walked on over to O-Toro and was pleasantly surprised to see both the indoor and outdoor dining packed with people. So if you're planning to dine at O-Tori, I would highly recommend you make a reservation in advance! Upon arrival I was quickly greeted by the staff who confirmed my order was almost ready. They informed me that they were waiting to finish the the tempura when I came so that it wouldn't be sitting and soggy when. I definitely appreciated that because soggy tempura is never fun! I waited about 5-7 minutes for the tempura and then I was finally on my way to enjoy my sushi at home. Once I got home, I was surprised to see the portions were pretty good! I had gotten the Cherry Blossom Roll, Dragon Roll, Kaiso (seaweed) Salad, tempura and Salmon sashimi. The sushi rolls were absolutely delicious and you could tell they have great quality fish. The seaweed salad actually came in a large container, which I totally did not expect. Most places give it in a small container so I really appreciated the portion sizing! The tempura was also very good! I enjoyed that they had a mixture of vegetables (eggplant, carrot, potato, sweet potato, broccoli, etc) and two large portioned shrimps. The food was amazing! The staff that assisted me with my take-out order were very friendly and kind. I definitely want to come back to experience their in-person dining.

Yelp
Really wanted to try this place. Made reservations and they let people sit inside without reservations and said the only tables they had were outside. New year's eve and now looking for another place. I feel like any restaurant should honor reservations before walk ins.

Yelp
Pretty good sushi and sashimi here. Ambience is chill and I like the lighting. Didn't like the beef stuffed mushroom. The sauce was overwhelming and I prefer pork with mushroom more so than beef. Everything else was delicious. They have a very lovely sake here. Get the one in my photos. Very fragrant and smooth.

Yelp
A great birthday dinner!! We swung by here because I was craving some sushi!! Wish I told our waiter it was my birthday but nevertheless, it was a great experience. Food was so fresh and we just kept ordering. Their sake was also so good. Below are just a couple that we ordered. What a great night! Definitely coming back soon xD Staff were also canto, so it was great to connect with them as well!!

Yelp
This was my second time here & it's safe to say this sushi spot never disappoints!! Went here with my aunt Betty and we had a mini feast My favorite dishes were the dynamite oysters, spicy crunch roll (not pictured) & the toro set. I loved sitting outside & enjoying the nice day in SF. This spot is definitely on the pricier side, but the sushi is really fresh & delicious. The staff was super friendly and helpful when we weren't sure what to order! @kaylascravings on ig

Yelp
Went for late lunch yesterday. Good sushi, albeit some of it was on the warm side, large menu, nice space. Beware of draft beer there as we had to send our two sour tasting Sapporos back. The waitress didn't bat an eye and replaced them with large bottles of Sapporo which was nice. Speaks to dirty beer taps which is not good. Decent value, service a bit on the slow side.

Yelp
Solid sushi spot Fresh high quality fish for prices that compete with other sf sushi. Not too much rice. The o torro2 roll was interesting and very creative. Hamachi carpaccio is a must try the fish melts in your mouth. Extensive saké list

Yelp
At the beginning, I was a bit disappointed. Made reservations for 7:30pm right before the second shutdown again and had to wait over 30mins because no one wanted to wipe down the table but instead wiped another table down for customers who arrived later than us. But the food reached my expectations and just made my night better! Ordered uni (MY FAV), otoro, truffle hamachi carpaccio, hamachi kama, hotate, salmon, and 3 rolls. Everything was amazingly fresh and so good!!! For the rolls, I loved their otoro roll! I'd pass on their lollipop roll though because there wasn't much sauce on it and it was a bit flavorless.
google avatar

Yelp
Okayyyyyyy new favorite sushi spot!!!!!!! I love this restaurant. Amazing service and amazing toro (duh). The servers always check in on you and are very friendly. The food comes out pretty quickly too. They have a good variety of dishes but of course I suggest ordering the Otoro rolls and the nigiri/sashimi. It tastes like butter and is so good. Everything I've ordered here including the sake is delicious. Their indoor and outdoor dining is set up very modern and nice. Make a reservation on OpenTable and get seated quickly.

Yelp
Traditional Nigiri, but try something different like their shishito peppers stuffed with hamachi. It was a cold night but some hot sake and tea helped to keep the night warm and the outdoor dining experience manageable, but still very cold. Parking was also fairly easy as it is slightly South of the main Hayes Valley Corridor and next to Rich Table. In case you are worried about eating outdoors on Oak St. it was fairly free of pedestrians walking around, no homeless, no animals, and just one jogger. Traffic racing by was also very minimal. Given that we are near the Octavia on and off ramps. So glad to find this little hot spot. The place was full but our table was ready despite all the tables being full and some people waiting. So reservations are recommended. We had had a huge brunch in the morning and sushi was perfect for two people with eyes bigger than their stomachs. The peppers, an 8 piece sushi sampler for two and a few rolls was more than enough. We could have stopped at two rolls. The sampler was $35 and most rolls are in the $14.95 range with about 8 pieces. We had the Lava Roll, the Dragon and the Crunch Spicy Tuna Roll which all were a little unique in their own way. The sampler had two pieces each of 4 fish. (Hirame, Otoro, Sake, and Hamachi which were all prepared in a unique sauce different from a normal nigiri. Overall a great neighborhood sushi restaurant that I will put in our sushi rotation especially when indoor dining returns

Sarika K.

Yelp
Sushi was fair priced considering how FRESH all the fish was. I've never had Otoro Sushi and it was one of the best rolls I've had in a while. My other favorite was the Salmon Lemon roll. The waitress was attentive and brought each roll when we finished the previous one. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! Ambiance: 10/10 low-light, date night Service: 10/10 Food: 11/10

Yelp
** The following review reflects my takeout experience DURING the COVID-19 pandemic. ** This was in my sushi parking lot for ages, but I shied away from it every time I passed by because it was invariably packed with more patient sushi eaters than me. But down comes the pandemic and the playing field was leveled in a most unexpected way. I was actually at Patricia's Green wondering why people were congregating so closely without masks just because they finished eating their takeout meals. I decided to pick up something before trundling home and happened to remember O-Toro. Indeed it was empty inside except for the staff behind the counter and of course the takeout table at the front door. I ordered three things to take home. First up was the $6.95 Hiyayakko, which was cold tofu slices with a light dipping sauce (photo: https://bit.ly/2Pz6PJ6). Refreshing and just the light bite I wanted. Next was the $8.75 Yakitori, two skewers of nicely rendered chicken (photo: https://bit.ly/2PP4w4Z). It was quite succulent and not too saucy. Last was the $14.95 Rainbow Special Roll which definitely had the requisite variety of fresh fish but felt a bit smallish compared to others I've had in the neighborhood like at Nakama or the lamentably closed Tsubasa (photo: https://bit.ly/30GQuso). But who's complaining? It was delicious and devoured in mere minutes. Nice to know I have another sushi option to consider, and I truly hope they survive these challenging times. FOOD - 4 stars...the execution was quite nice though that roll felt a bit small for my appetite AMBIANCE - n/a...I was just here to pick up my phone order SERVICE - 4 stars...fast turnaround, courteous TOTAL - 4 stars...I can drive this one off the parking lot now RELATED - Exploring Hayes Valley? Here's a collection of places I've tried and reviewed: https://bit.ly/2vdx1yO

Yelp
Our first time dining at this establishment didn't disappoint. The food quality, representation of the dishes, the ambiance and the service were great. The waiter had inquired about any allergies himself! Doesn't it speak for itself?! Most definitely we will come back.
google avatar

Yelp
I've been here twice and have been regularly impressed by their tapas offerings! Most recently we had the salmon belly and grilled scallop - a great combination that combines a lean scallop, with a bit of smokiness, and the fatty unctuousness from the salmon. Both are well balanced by a hint of lemon and refreshing cucumber. Great composition! The only reason I wouldn't give 5 stars is that we tried a few special rolls, and multiple of the ones that contain snow crab tasted a bit dry, which could mean that the crab was over boiled. In all honesty, this probably would go unnoticed since most special rolls are probably dunked in the standard soy and wasabi combo, but still, a bit of a shame to overcook such a special ingredient. Still, worth a visit and trust their tapas selection!
google avatar

Celine E.

Yelp
I wish I could remember the names of these rolls but I can't. After attending the Van Gogh exhibit we came to this sushi spot and I am SO glad we did. We went a little crazy with our order because I was trying to encourage my friend to step out of her comfort zone of ordering California rolls lol. I am happy to say she loved it all - and so did I! Everything was made quickly and served fresh and hot. I will definitely be coming back here!
google avatar

Andrew L.

Yelp
Not great overall. My rating may be a bit harsh but it's mostly about the fish quality. The rolls are small and not particularly good. The rainbow roll, dragon roll, and jaihama roll were not great and had small pieces of fish. The negi toro was ok, pretty decent. The more premium fish nigiri was a bit disappointing. It was ok but not great compared to most quality places i go to. Overpriced for small pieces that are smothered in sauce. I wont be back. Lots of better places to go around here.

Yelp
We just moved to Hayes and this is such an amazing spot! I've lived in SF my entire life and I've tried a number of hit sushi and omakase spots in the city including Robin, Hinata, Kasukabe, and more. What is unique about O-toro is that you get quality Japanese cuisine without the touristic hustle of Japan town, or the upscale stiffness of an omakase set-menu restaurant. They have outdoor as well as indoor seating and their menu will satiate your fried favorites, ramen, sushi, and sashimi cravings. They also have daily specials that are AMAZING for the price and quality of local fish. One of my all time favorite dishes here is the Hamachi collar, the fish is a pacific yellowtail, and the collar is the sweetest, most flavorful selection of meat. They smoke and grill this piece to perfection along with a savory dipping sauce. For the snacks and starters I have to recommend the whole grilled squid, which is so fresh, and the ginger sauce they serve along with it is umami and the chicken karaage. Now, their chicken karaage is special. Most places over fry this dish, make it too hard, or also only serve four small pieces of chicken. NOT AT OTORO. Here the karaage is tender, moist, and lightly battered. Each piece is a very generous size and can be a great starter for four easily. For the sashimi I would recommend the uni, toro, salmon belly, snapper, and barracuda. For the rolls they change them up once and a while, so I would ask the waiter what is most popular at this time. Our favorites are the dragon, rainbow, and the Otoro #2. If you ever find yourself in Hayes, stop by! Create food memories, Isabelle Pinard

Yelp
This place was just average to me, so it's actually 3.5 stars. I felt for the prices, I should've gone back to Tsubasa instead. My friend and I actually came here without reservations and they gave us a seat at the bar. We ordered a couple of items to share and the chef at the bar was pretty cool. Here's what we got Cherry blossom Roll- this was ok, nothing special.I will avoid this because I found that the sashimi was too thinly sliced Hamachi Carpaccio with Truffle oil- 5 slices and it went well with the avocado. Live scallop- the scallop slices were pretty small and they gave too much rice. Umi Maku Toro- this was good, but odd with the dill as the garish. I felt it would've been better without the dill. Seared Sake Belly- this melted in your mouth, it was so good that we got two orders. Uni- This was a very generous portion and you need to use your fingers to pick it up. If you don't eat this fast enough, the seaweed will be too soft. I wish they asked when I wanted this to be served because I normally eat my uni last. This place does get crowded, so I recommend reservations.

Yelp
Super delicious Sushi... I ate at the restaurant and it was great quality.. netx time I got take out and surprisingly it was still great as you know sometimes takeout sushi can be not very thrilling.. My favorite!

Yelp
We've gotten delivery from this place quite a few times, and went in tonight to try it fresh: - 16 piece sushi: we made the mistake of mentioning we were going to split it, and they gave us 8x2 (two of each) instead one 16x1 (all unique) (when we've gotten delivery, we've gotten 16x1) - hamachi lover roll (special) - delicious! past a to future a: "order the hamachi lover. You love hamachi. order this." - uni sushi - also delicious, medium size and the nutty one (not floral) - kakuni (pork belly) - delicious, would order again for sure - shishito peppers with truffle salt (special) - fine, bit small, don't need to get again Would try miso back cod next time (e) and short rib (a) and asparagus with kobe (specials menu - a)

Yelp
What a delightful evening we four had. Firstly, dining out is always a great experience if you have the right formula. Most importantly is good company that enjoys eating family style (Yes! We love to share so we can try everything!) So here we are looking over the menu that offers much to desire. We ordered 5 appetizers, the omakase assortment, 4 sakes and.... we still wanted more because we couldn't get enough of YUM. We asked our darling server if the owner was here and she said "Yes, Jimmy is here." Jimmy comes to our table with a big smile. We asked him what two sushi rolls should we order that would bring us back here. Give us your best that will make us want to return! AND JIMMY DID! He sent over a sake on the house and the most unique tasting rolls that we ever had. O-Toro does not disappoint. Every delectable moment was savored. In fact, I can taste the garlic on the Takashi Roll (pumpkin tempura with garlic albacore on top) as I write this review. Who puts garlic on sushi? Jimmy does and it's so memorably tasty! We went early to secure parking and when we left, the restaurant was packed.

Yelp
Came here once before the pandemic and once recently and I received pretty much the same high quality food and service both times - and that's not something you can say about a lot of restaurants in the city nowadays due to the retail staffing shortage! The menu has a good mix of sushi/sashimi and hot/cold Japanese tapas - it's great place to go get my sushi fix and one of the only ones I can go with my boyfriend, who isn't a fan of raw fish, because he has plenty of options besides the typical teriyaki. I definitely recommend trying a bunch of the appetizers and an assorted sashimi or nigiri plate with a sake tasting! They have indoor and outdoor dining and you can easily make reservations on OpenTable as well.

Christina P.

Yelp
I had heard great reviews about this place but it was rather disappointing when I went with my friend. The Rainbow rolls had fresh crab in them but it was dry and kind of tasteless. I had to dip a ton with soy sauce in order to get any flavor. The tempura was fine but nothing special given the price. And the fish didn't have much taste.

Anna W.

Yelp
My go-to, everyday sushi spot. Love the atmosphere and that its sort of hidden away and keeps a low-key vibe.
google avatar

Amanda S.

Yelp
I am so blown away by this place. We ordered a reopening roll and another that I'm forgetting the name of. Both were so delicious we had to order more. The chef recommended a two piece otoro nigiri, and they were large, perfectly marbled pieces. I can't rave enough about this place. Will absolutely be back!!
google avatar

Melissa H.

Yelp
The service was amazing, but more importantly so was the food! Umi masu and hamachi carpaccio are not to be missed! I cannot wait to return!
google avatar

Letha W.

Yelp
I would give this place five stars except the tempura flavor was lacking. The atmosphere is nice and the staff is friendly. I would go again
google avatar

Michael K.

Yelp
My friend and I each got a 10-piece nigiri set and I ordered some extra rolls as well. Only the first piece of nigiri was really good, and the rest were just okay. We had a couple bottles of sake and got a sake flight. 1 of the sakes in the flight was horrible. It ended up being around $315 for 2 people including tax & tip (mostly from the sake). I've had much better for much less.

Yelp
Amazing amazing amazing. A neighborhood gem. Not only is the hon maguro life changing but believe it or not they have the best fried chicken in the city.

Yelp
Delish! EVERYTHING. Every dish, soup, roll. They are very kind and have superb customer service. There is no shortage of their patrons checking on you, and this is a great thing. I also appreciated how accommodating they were to one of my friends who is raw and vegan. They're willing to work with you according to your requests, provided these are reasonable (which is fair). I'd be back in a heartbeat. I've been wanting to try this place for years and I'm glad I did. Thanks O'Toro!

Yelp
I was able to get last minute reservations about a week ago, thankfully because there was so many people waiting. I regret not taking pictures of the sushi rolls and everything else we ate. I enjoyed the outdoor seating and even though it was evening it wasn't cold how they built everything out to block some of the wind. Everything was so delicious and i can't wait to return. The rolls here are quality and it's really too bad I can't remember which rolls we got but I do remember how it tasted!

Yelp
Solid sushi restaurant. It's not as expensive as fancy sushi places, but still more expensive than a typical meal (our bill was about $70 for two people). The quality of the meal matched the price and overall, we enjoyed our dinner. We started off by ordering a carafe of the house sake, served warm. For $10, it really wasn't that great, but we got about 6 drinks out of it, so it was pretty cheap. For food, we ordered the agedashi tofu and two of the premium rolls. The tofu arrived first and was delicious, although it was piping hot and honestly a bit painful to eat, but still great. We also enjoyed the two rolls, but after finishing them, were still hungry, so we each ordered a few pieces of nigri: scallop (hotate), salmon (sake), and eel (unagi). The scallop and salmon were alright, nothing too impressive, but the unagi was pretty good. The service was good, although I noticed that they would prepare dishes and then leave them out on the counter until the table was ready for them -- this happened with our and a few other tables' orders. It's thoughtful of them not to bring out food before the table is ready, but it didn't look great to see them sitting out there for 5 minutes before being served. Although I didn't have an issue with how the food tasted, so maybe it didn't have too much of an impact. Still, overall good restaurant. Would I come here again? Probably not given the price; I'm more likely to explore other places, but I'd still recommend coming here.

Yelp
So yummy! All of the food was really delicious. Our favorites were the Hayes Valley Roll and the Karaage. They also serve sake flights, so you're able to try a bit of each! They have both outdoor and indoor seating - we sat at the counter and it was perfect. Service was quick and attentive. They timed out bringing the food pretty well too. The ambiance is very cozy and is perfect for a date night. I recommend getting a reservation if you can, but you can also walk in as we did on a Friday night around 7:15pm. Don't know if we just got lucky, but it was crowded immediately after! We're so glad we finally tried this place out. Can't wait to come back again!

Yelp
I'm really disappointed at how much O-Toro Sushi has gone downhill over the years. My co-worker wanted a Dragon Roll and I suggested that we should go to O-Toro Sushi because it's awesome. Well, it's no longer awesome, it's terribly mediocre and looks like a handful of former customers feel the same way. We shared a Lunch Combo Plate of Saba & Short Ribs ($16.75) which was fine but the rolls were a huge let down. We ordered the Dragon Roll: crab, shrimp tempura, eel, avocado ($14.75) & O-Toro #2 Roll: asparagus tempura, seared toro ($16.95): https://bit.ly/2Lrt13F. The Dragon Roll was meh. While I appreciate there wasn't too much filler rice, the unagi lacked that rich lushness. I'm not one for saucy rolls but it needed a drizzle of unagi sauce since its savory sweetness is more complementary than soy sauce. The O-Toro #2 Roll was so WTF: https://bit.ly/2JlISjT. The toro was pulverzied and torched to extinction. Why even offer a roll topped with toro if you're going to torch it to death? Toro is not cheap but at least top it with thin slices and 86 the torch so customers can actually taste the toro. Or, add sufficient toro and increase the price. We basically paid $17 for a vegan roll. We went at opening so it wasn't busy but it took a while to receive our order and we sat at the window with fruit flies flying around. I returned to work and saw that their most recent health score is 79 which is scurrrry for a sushi bar. Eeeck. It's a good thing we didn't order anything raw.

Yelp
I am on my angry I can't have this for lunch. Everything I had was delicious. Would only pick sashimi next time. It was fresh and melted in my mouth.
