I have tried so many times since they opened to give this place a chance, and every single time I am met with worse food and even worse service than before. I don't know how they are still in business.
When you initially walk in, the first thing you notice is how few patrons there are. Okay fine, not every place is going to be full all the time. But believe me, I have tried both on Friday nights and Saturday nights. It's a ghost town. Then, for being a bar, I've seen an actual bartender I think twice. Whoever is around (?) seems to be the one responsible for drinks, and I have seen this system of theirs fail miserably each time I visited because either the server is doing everything or the bartender refuses to acknowledge anyone not sitting at the bar. The couple of times there WAS a bartender, she could NOT be bothered to leave her post to help me when I had stood waiting at the counter for ten minutes -- I am not exaggerating. At one point, one of the times I actually asked her if she could take my to-go order and she flat out said no and that someone would be there to help me. That didn't happen for several more minutes. I just left. I have had to just leave more than once.
One thing to note about what makes this establishment one of the most unprofessionally run businesses I have ever seen is how the back of house or cooks and servers are ALWAYS yelling at each other, complaining loudly, or speaking poorly about customers. I have personally witnessed them calling customers stupid or declaring the customers were wrong about whatever, directly in front of other customers. They are all always angry or have the worst attitudes I've witnessed in this type of setting. I wish this was an exaggeration, but again, it's happened every single visit without fail.
The last visit is what made me never want to go back. I walked in, to an almost empty dining room, but I did see a server at the counter so I had some hope. I asked him for two milkshakes, which he had to ask me to remind him twice. He was so distracted by whatever he was angry about that he couldn't remember what I just ordered. He never rung it up. Instead, I watched him close out 7 tabs, without ever looking at me once to let me know it would be a minute. He proceeded to have a heated discussion with a cook, who also came out to complain directly in front of me, and still never gave me a heads up as to what was going on. After 15 minutes of watching everyone lose their minds, he started my milkshakes but was visibly extremely annoyed by it. They were the worst milkshakes I've ever had. I watched him basically throw the cups when he started, because I was very clearly inconveniencing him to a point where all his professionalism simply disappeared. I get they are understaffed, as I can see that, but I am not a punching bag. I am a paying customer. They should staff more appropriately instead of keep people on that hate their job, which ultimately will make them lose more business.
The service is the worst in Seattle. The food is extremely inconsistent. The atmosphere is chaotic and stressful even when there are so few people to serve. I cannot explain how truly horrible Otter is because words just don't describe my immeasurable disappointment with what was supposed to an awesome local spot. I have given it way too many chances. It never got better, it got worse. In this climate ESPECIALLY, that is just unacceptable. Don't waste your money here.
