I was pretty shocked to see how packed this spot was on a random Tuesday* in early Fall. And not only was it crowded, it was crowded with tourists/non-locals? Huh? Wha? How did they even know this neighborhood existed, much less this bar? I was confusion. But my answer to 'why is parking so bananas?' was answered.
I'd also added to the conundrum, as I'd instructed an out-of-town friend of mine to meet me here. But I figured my localness trumped anything else. The bar was/is non-descript and homey. It's a nice combo. Swing open the heavy door, look around inside at the bar and make a bee-line to the patio. Normally, this would have been the optimum move. Thanks to global warming, it was summertime hot so Otto's had an industrial fan blowing. I appreciated the motion but it didn't do much for the heat. It just made everyone's personal items blow around. 'B' for effort.
Perhaps another reason for the crowd was that it was 'taco Tuesday': $2 tacos and $6 margaritas. I make it a personal rule not to eat at bars so cheap margs it was. I was pleased to note that despite the 'cheap'** price, the marg was decently boozy and objectively tasty. I had two.*** Typically, I like to make my way down a menu and try the proprietary drinks to see if I like the bar's POV. However, a good happy hour offering will always beat menu curiosity.
I just have a reason to come back.
*Prices have gone up on the tacos, beloved.
**Remember when drinks were standard $6-$8?
***I stayed a while. Don't give me that look.
