"We’ve got a rule here at The Infatuation, which really only applies to me, because I am the main offender: No more East Coast taco complaining. We’ve beaten that horse to death, and we’re annoying even ourselves at this point. The good news though, is that after years of doing it wrong, there’s a crop of NYC taco joints in town that are doing it right. Los Tacos No. 1, Taqueria Diana[(http://www.theinfatuation.com/new-york/reviews/taqueria-diana), and today’s review subject, Otto’s Tacos, are all bringing some much-needed West Coast flavor out East. You probably won’t be surprised to hear us say that we like where all this is going. Otto’s is a taco spot in the East Village with a very simple menu and homemade corn tortillas. In true West Coast fashion, they cook them up hot and fresh every hour of every day, and they’re pretty much perfect. The tortillas are then filled with your choice of chicken, carnitas, seasonal vegetables, steak, or shrimp, and the end result is simple tacos that are both highly delicious and priced right at $3 and $4 a piece. If you’ve eaten a lot on the West Coast, you will appreciate Otto’s for that simplicity and sensibility. Speaking of Otto, he’s the owner. You’ll surely meet him when you come by, as he makes it a point to introduce himself to each customer and ask for feedback on the food. He’s just an LA native who felt like he and his friends were being underserved by the current crop of Manhattan tacos. He set out to fix it, even though he had no restaurant experience under his belt. We like people, we like tacos, and we like problem-solvers. So yeah, we like Otto’s. A lot. Food Rundown Tacos As we mentioned above, the Otto’s tacos all start with the tortilla. Some might get upset about their small size, but not us. We’ll take quality over quantity all damn day. There’s a no-cheese policy here, as is standard with many West Coast tacos spots. The focus here is on the fillings, which are complemented with a nice balance of simple chopped onion, cilantro, and a touch of spicy salsa. No-nonsense and awesome. Masa Fries Fried corn strips made from the same dough as the tortillas. Yup, we liked these too. They also come with what is possibly the greatest orange spicy dipping sauce ever, which you can feel free to dump on top of the tacos too. Chips & Guacamole If there’s one thing that falls a little flat at Otto’s it’s the guacamole. It’s not bad; it’s just not all that memorable." - Andrew Steinthal

"COVID-19 update: Open for pickup and delivery. Otto’s is part of the wonderful trend of casual taquerias sprouting up in NYC: Homemade corn tortillas, salsas, and marinades make it a step above your normal take-away joint (there are a few high-top seats for eating in). They also cater. There are also locations in the East Village and Hell's Kitchen. COVID-19 disclaimer: We are working hard to keep our listings as up to date as possible (deliveries, outdoor dining, etc.), but given the evolving nature of local COVID-19 restrictions, we recommend double-checking the information in this guide with any business you plan on visiting. Also, please note that we have not vetted any businesses listed within our guides for their compliance with applicable safety regulations. "

Had the shrimp taco and the short rib taco. The shrimp taco was okay. The shrimp is pretty small and over seasoned. The tortilla is extremely hard. It wasn't bad but I had Los Mariscos 5 minutes later and I could definitely tell the difference. The short rib taco was very interesting. I loved how spicy it was, but it was slightly too sweet. The sauce with it was really good. It seemed like a typical fast food taco place. Also, the tacos are really small like 2 bites.

This is the flagship Otto’s Tacos location in NYC. The gorgon crispy deliciousness they serve is my favorite. It’s huge but gets better and better with every bite. Gorgon is the move here. Friendly staff and nice outside seating too.

Omg.. I was like I want tacos today! I was about to go somewhere else when this place, like an oasis in a desert. It was fast service and surprisingly delicious. I say surprisingly, because some places are either over seasoned or just bland , but Otto's was good. I loved it. Price was on point , not expensive, and it was delicious! Cant wait to go again.

Delicious chicken tacos, the way they prepare the meat is amazing. The first time I tried I was expecting a regular taco ,but this one was well prepared, the flavor of the chicken plus the guacamole was out of this word , I love hot sauce with food .But I eat the tacos with out because I want the taste the flavor of this chicken.

Blew us away. Otto's reminded us of the taquerias around LA. But we couldn't think of one as good as Otto's. I recommend the gorgon . . . kind of an American Indian taco shell, thicker and crispy. I had chicken, my wife had carne asada. They were both off the hook. Tasted great. Fresh. Generous size. Excellent guac and salsa. Staff friendly. They also have Mexican coke (real coke). If it's a rainy day, call ahead or Google to see how crowded. Seats maybe 16-18 inside? They do have tables outside, though. Will def be back! Now there are two great Mexican places in NYC. Also, it's adjacent to alphabet city and bowery. Still funky and interesting neighborhoods with trendy and old mingled. Oh yeah - free parking at the bike rack out front Update - tried the regular tacos vs gorgon. Works class tortillas. Also highly recommend chips/salsa. Update - Still the bomb! We've been coming here for 6-8 mos or so. It's out of the way - like yesterday, I rode my bike over from downtown. Def worth the trip. Discovered something new. The salsa is a little different vs the Ottos in midtown. Seems they actually make everything in each individual store - no mass produced commissary

Great food and fairly priced. I got the chicken taco salad and it was very good. My wife got the chicken gorgon and that was almost perfect. I would definitely visit this place again

The corn (gluten-free!) tacos are made in-house and are excellent. Love both the mushroom and shrimp tacos. You can add guac to each taco for a supplemental fee, which I usually do, because... guac. They sometimes do fun collaborations: on a recent visit they had a Harry and Ida Pastrami taco available. The guys are knowledgeable and helpful. Always great for a quick bite.

Good spot for a quick bite before a movie. The brussel sprouts taco was great and the steak and chicken were good.
