"Matthieu Roche moved from Paris (where he worked at Semilla) to open this tiny bistro with his partner Camille. The space, located between the port and the courthouse, reflects the colours and flavours of Provence. The chef is attentive to the seasons, buying locally (Mediterranean fish directly from the port, vegetables from Mallemort's market gardens, citrus fruits from the Domaine du Jasson)." - Michelin Inspector

The 21 Best Restaurants in Marseille, France | Eater

"After cooking at Semilla, a popular modern bistro in Saint-Germain-des-Prés in Paris, chef Matthieu Roche moved to Marseille and opened this intimate bistro with co-owner Camille Fromont near Le Vieux Port in the heart of the city. A native of Aix-en-Provence, Roche says he returned to the south because he missed the high quality of the produce available there and also the energy of Provence’s largest city. A low-key dining room with cement floors is the backdrop for dishes like carpaccio of black mullet smoked over fennel stalks with a salad of cucumbers marinated in turmeric and horseradish; gnocchi with a sauce of ramps and baby broccoli; and a passionfruit tart with a lime-meringue topping and lemon sorbet." - Alexander Lobrano

The French Riviera Is an Art Lover's Dream — Here's How to Plan Your Perfect Trip

"At Ourea I enjoy an adventurous, Mediterranean-leaning lunch: nearly raw zucchini in a lemon-and-chickpea sauce with apricots and fried sage, an eggplant purée studded with red figs and Thai red basil, spicy tuna in a thick harissa-kicked sauce, and tender pink veal. Matthieu Roche, who cofounded the restaurant in 2018, comes by in a blue apron and describes his approach as "Mediterranean, with a bit of voyage," adding that it is "also a little réflechi," which matches the distinct, reflective mix of flavors on the plate." - Rachel Donadio Rachel Donadio Rachel Donadio is a Paris-based writer and former European culture correspondent for The New York Times. Ourea never misses the mark. Their compact menu changes often and always utilizes fresh seasonal ingredients. Inventive flavor combinations and traditional techniques lead the way here. We love their lunch menu and if you are quite hungry their dinner is very generous. Definitely get the dessert no matter what. Be prepared as you will not want to leave even a crumb on the plate.

Great experience! We came for lunch, and the staff was very friendly, happily adapting dishes to be pescatarian. The food was creative yet approachable and beautifully prepared

I had a great time here. I decided on a starter with aubergine and toasted brioche, swordfish (line caught) as the main course and a pastry filled with sweet cream and plums as dessert. I liked everything so much, that I decided to return the next day. The menue changes every week therefore I had the same options but made different choices. As a starter I had minestrone and as the main course I had pork (free range) with vegetables. For dessert I went with the sweet option again. Overall the swordfish and the dessert were my favorite. The service was great as well - very nice and attentive staff. A wonderful experience both times.

Everything about this restaurant was perfect ❤️ I had an expectation that it would be a tourist trap but it was a real gem 💎 Highly recommend.

It's the cutest restaurant. Food is excellent and creative, service pro and friendly. Products fresh and tasteful. Don't miss the "chou à la crème" it's to die for.

This was one of the best meals I had in France. You can tell the waitstaff and the chef are punching well above their weight. Impressive all around, but I’m still dreaming of the food. There’s impressive flavor layering in their dishes that’s missing from almost every other restaurant I ate at in France over a monthlong stay

Solo traveller, got lucky and had a place by the bar without a reservation. Otherwise, the place was packed! Excellent service and food for dinner. Service staff and chef went out of the way to make you feel at home(offered to speak English which is rare in France). Food was well balanced and delightful. Interesting wine pairing that was focused on the region (Languedoc to Beaujolais). Will come back to dine again!
