Where To Eat Before & After A Hike In San Francisco - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"You want a meal that’s healthy enough that you won’t feel like you’re cancelling out the exercise part of the hike, but unhealthy enough that it all actually tastes good. Out The Door is the answer. While we normally head here for dinner, the weekend brunch at this modern Vietnamese spot in Pac Heights is worth your time to. It involves everything from salads and pho to banh mi eggs and buttermilk pancakes." - nic strain 2

I liked the food and taste, my chicken sando however felt like I was eating more breading than meat, it was quite small compared to other chicken sandos of the same price.

Heard that a new bar/restaurant had opened on San Bruno, and we decided to check it out. Very happy we did! This place has great cocktails made by a bartender who knows what he is doing. He asked me what kind of cocktail I liked, and he directed me to a few. I chose one and it was delicious. We were hungry and the menu looked good, so we got a pepperoni pizza, sausage sandwich, and french fries. The pizza had plenty of pepperoni and tasted very legit; not like my go-to of Domino's. Sausage sandwich was bomb and the french fries were crispy like I like them. More than the food / drink quality, I liked the people here. The crowd seemed to be locals who liked talking to each other. I even ran into my sister's best friend there! Happy to have this cool new spot in our 'little hood that could'.

Glad we came in to check this local place out. I never got the chance to check this place out before when it was a brewery before but I'm sure glad I gave it a shot. Karen and Hardwin took great care of us, even when the place was packed. We decided on this place last minute just looking for a quick bite and to enjoy some NBA playoffs. The drinks and food are great and came out fairly quickly even with a lot of people. The menu was simple but tasty. Kids enjoyed it, so that's a plus for a local spot. We will definitely be coming back here!

Ordered the lemon pepper chicken bites. Very good flavor, crispy, light flaky crunch, moist chicken, a tad bit on the salty side but if you're sitting sipping a drink it would pair well. Staff is friendly. Food came out in a timely manner. Good portion size for the price. Liked the decor & atmosphere. Bar seating, highchair table seats & booths. 2 tv's. Just a side note the lady in the both next to me was served a big juicy looking burger with a fantastic looking salad, the plating was scrumptious looking.

The wife and I stopped in on our way to a night out in the city. We had some great food and the drinks were strong. They have a great menu and a big drink selection. It was a solid way to start our night and we will be back very soon. (Pizza is awesome)

Really nice new craft beer bar/cocktail bar with food, in the Portola Neighborhood. Come support a new small business! Clean and inviting, with great service

This place was awesome not just because the food was delicious but also because the service and people were great! I can't wait to come back to this local restaurant. This place was also very kid friendly having activities and a kids eat free on the first Monday of the month deal.

I love this place!! I was there on a busy Sunday during the Warriors game, and the place was hopping, with a festive and fun vibe. I immediately loved the laid back yet classy decor, and sat in a booth with friends. We ordered a bunch of stuff to try and every thing was so delicious! We started with the “Not the Wedge” Wedge Salad and the crispy cauliflower. Both were so great—the salad was refreshing and a perfect starter, and the cauliflower was cooked to perfection with the most delicious romesco sauce. Next we had the Falafel Burger served with a side of the fries. Now, as a longtime vegetarian, I have had MANY falafels in my life, but I have never had a falafel like this! It was so light and crispy and it was such a fun take to have it burger-style with a super tasty bun. I loved it and can’t wait to have it again. The fries were also awesome—incredibly thin and crispy and the perfect thing to have with the burger. And finally, my friends and I split the mushroom pizza. I loved everything about this pizza—crispy mushrooms, and a perfect combo of flavors and the crust was perfect. We ate everything on our plates! Great service too with friendly servers, and we loved the vibe. This was a fabulous experience, and I can’t wait to go again. So happy that the Portola has a fun place like this!

Yelp
Margarita pizza is on point, crispy and delicious. Bartender greeted us right away. Excellent bar food. All the small bites are perfect.

Yelp
It's a chill bar that allows dogs. The decor is pretty minimal but the space is pretty big. They can early accommodate a large party. You order your food and drinks at the bar. When we were there, there was one employee working the bar while another person was cleaning or in the back. It seemed like the bar tender knew most of the folks walking in. We got the margherita pizza, garlic fries, and mushrooms. The food was good! Pizza is light and crispy. The sauce tasted balanced and didn't overwhelm the taste of the rest of the pizza. The fries were great with a good amount of garlic and seasoning. Mushroom was good too. Overall the food was pretty good. They all have a bunch of beers and ciders on tap. I got an IPA. Overall a nice spot to chill at and get some bar food. I'd come back.

Yelp
A perfect place to meet after work for when we want someone else to cook dinner! The space is quite large, neat, and good for groups, plus there are several TVs for watching sports. I liked the decor, art made by local 6th and 7th graders. It seems like a comfy and chill spot for locals to gather. Plus the staff are friendly and attentive. We placed our order at the bar, were given a number, and took our drinks with us to a booth. Eric and I split the wedge salad and a chicken jalapeño pizza. After we finished our salad, our server offered to change our plates. We said no, cuz like why dirty more dishes! But it was nice to be asked :) Solid, tasty food that I washed down with a full size guava cider. Yum! So many other things I want to try on their menu - hope we can come back to try them soon!

Yelp
Out the Road is just what you want in a neighborhood restaurant/bar: super chill, welcoming, lively without being rowdy, and with plenty of places to sit. They also have enough options to keep this vegan happy: herby pizza and a falafel burger (modified), plus several yummy bar bites. Nice job, OTR!

Yelp
Unless you're an SF native or lived in the city long enough, you've probably never heard of Portola (same with Vis Valley and Little Hollywood). Unfortunately, there's not much going on in this hood...except for Cantonese BBQ delis + bakeries and Jim Georgie's. I do remember there being an AZN bar on San Bruno Ave. but it's a blur like the rest of my 20s. So, when I read that there was a new cocktail bar that's dog friendly...LFG! Opening in April 2024, Out The Road took over FDR (brewery) that closed in 2021. They offer takeout and indoor dining. Order at the counter, take a placard, seat yourself, and your order will be brought to you. M E N U American Cuisine: Salad, fried apps, burger/sandwiches, and pizza. - Food menu: https://tinyurl.com/ycs2u95z - Drink menu: https://tinyurl.com/4vfx4a44 4% service charge added to bill. I don't mind paying these fees but it wasn't disclosed on the menu. The bun and cheese were quite industrial tasting which distracted from the overall taste. Maybe the pizza is the way to go here? Can't go wrong with freshly fried shoestring fries tho! S E R V I C E Friendly, chill, and prompt. A M B I A N C E Bare-bones with several high top tables, booths, and bar seating. Enjoyed the hip hop music bumping from the kitchen. P A R K I N G Metered and residential street parking. Beware of your surroundings at night. Overall, Out the Road is a welcome addition to Portola. If you live in the area and looking for a low-key spot for craft cocktails, def hit them up!

Yelp
Visited on a Sunday around 7:15 pm with a friend. The bar had a few other guests but plenty of open seats available, great for walking in. I decided to grab seats at the bar. Drink: Nitro Negroni - smooth, nice balance of sweet and bitter, not too boozy, well chilled, really enjoyed this Food: Fried maitake mushrooms - delicious, lightly battered and fried, these were crispy and airy, served with a flavorful romesco sauce, definitely order one for the table Margarita Pizza - pretty good, thin crust with a nice chew, tangy tomato sauce, topped with mozzarella, grana and a herb pistou, wish this was finished with a bit of salt or more grana cheese and baked a tad longer for a crispier bottom but overall a solid pie. Size was about 12-14" across and cut into 6 slices, I'd say enough to serve 2 if you order an appetizer or two to accompany Service was great, the bartender was warm and friendly with great knowledge of the drink and food menu. Water was refilled throughout the meal and the bartender checked in regularly. Food came out fairly quickly. Overall a great addition to the Portola district, a nice casual spot with reasonable prices for drinks and dinner. Full bar available which is a major plus and a nice variety of bites, sandwiches and pizza. Excited to come back to try more of the menu!

Yelp
I'm really glad there's a tavern on San Bruno again. They've a nice selection of beers - some national brands and some local breweries. A full bar means they can also throw together cocktails for folks. The food menu means we don't have to leave to get a bit to eat. We had two beers each, and split a salad and a pizza for our impromptu Date Night. The fact that Out The Door is served by the no. 9 is a bonus! Take the bus, ya'll!

Yelp
Neighborhood bar in portola in the old bones of a brewery. Modernized with a kitchen and full bar, great place for happy hour or nightly neighborhood events. Enjoyed their brat reuben which was served quick and tasted great. Great for those in the area or a post-meal drink. Also has the vibe of a newly minted sports bar, with TVs ready for all sports fans

Yelp
New gem in Portola district. We are so happy that this cool new spot opened on the neighborhood's commercial strip of San Bruno. We went last week to try it out on a Friday night. The place was full and the vibe was happy. The staff were super nice, with the bartender asking what kind of cocktails we like before he recommended a few. Cocktails on point. Also got a pizza, which is definitely the best pizza in the Portola district. Plenty of pepperoni. The sausage sandwich was excellent, and the fries were well done just like I like them. More than the quality of food or drink, I liked the people there. I met other neighborhood folks, and ran into my sister's best friend! It's a place where customers talk to each other and can hang out in a 3rd space.

Yelp
This is just what the neighborhood needed!! Great service from the start, the staff knows their beer and cocktails. The food is delicious and comes out before you know it. The burger is fire along with the chicken bites and the chicken sando. The fried mushrooms with the romesco sauce is my favorite especially with their cold Pilsner on tap. The bar is clean and has great local art work in it. The bathrooms are brand new which is refreshing for a bar in SF. Great staff, great food, great drinks ! Definitely check this bar out!!!

Yelp
Ok atmosphere. Sports on TVs. Drinks are $9-10 beers, $14 cocktails. Music or live music would be nice. Not too crowded on weeknight. Some food.

Yelp
Great pizza and food, chill vibes, friendly service. The mushroom pizza was incredible. White sauce, thin crust, great maitake mushroom flavor. The meat one had sausage and red sauce with a little spice, sweetness, and tang. The tempura mushrooms were fantastic. Super crispy and great maitake mushrooms inside. Solid beer selection. Full cocktail bar. Big space inside with TVs for watching sports. Order at the bar. Food comes out quickly. Great neighborhood place. Would definitely return.

Yelp
Soooooooo happy to have a new local watering hole on San Bruno Ave! I came here on a Thursday night with a group of 5 adults and 2 kids and everybody had a great time. I'm always looking for a casual but high quality place that is good for groups and doesn't require a reservation. Out The Road fits that bill perfectly (until it gets too popular of course). This place has a cool vibe, great service, is dog-friendly, and is very spacious with lots of long tables, plenty of seating at the bar, TVs with live sports, easy parking in the evenings... what's not to like? Here's what we ordered: Sausage pizza - crust was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside (like me?), generous amount of Italian sausage and pickled pepper making it spicier than I expected, but no complaints here because I love spice. Herby pizza - didn't try this but it smelled amazing, and the kids devoured it. Fried chicken sandwich with side of fries - also didn't try this but it looked really good and the person who ordered it left nothing behind. The cocktails were well-made, and the pints were well-poured. Welcome to the neighborhood, Out The Road! We're very happy to have you.

The service was also great! We're definitely planning on dining-in in the future to try out the drinks.

Yelp
The food was good, the service was good but it was confusing at first because you have to order up front but once you know things will be easier.

Yelp
Highly recommend trying their mushroom with the delicious dipping sauce! Great service, great beer

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem. Located in the main strip of the Portola district, this hip bar and restaurant serves up excellent drinks, beers on tap, and a menu of upscale (but reasonably priced) bar food. My personal favorite is the crispy chicken sandwich, piled super high with excellently fried chicken, jalapeños, and a homemade sauce in which I'm pretty sure I detected fennel. Really interesting and incredibly tasty! Although we didn't get a pizza, they look fabulous as well. Finally, don't miss the fried maitake mushrooms. To... die... for... The only thing we weren't crazy about was the burger. It was good, to be sure, but perhaps not as "special" as the rest. The service was informal and super friendly. It's the kind of neighborhood place where, eventually, the bartender will ask if we want "the usual." We'll be back many times, so we'll see if that happens!

Yelp
Tasty food. Good beer and cocktail lineup. Super friendly staff. Located in the space that was formerly Ferment Drink Repeat brewery. Spacious, modern, with high top and some comfortable booth seating. Amazing art from local students adorns the walls.

Yelp
Awesome bar very close to home. Formerly a brewery I used to frequent that I missed dearly but vibes are the same. I hope it stays. I'll be back to try the food and chill if I don't want to venture too far out.

Yelp
Yummy food. I got the sausage and pepperoni pizza. The beer glasses were cold. The margarita was really yummy. The bartender was very friendly. The decor was understated dark black nice booths. And I could bring my son who is 13.

Yelp
This unassuming gem will surprise you with pickled veg on your Falafel Sandwich, spicey mayo with your French Fries and a Chicken Sando that is perfectly juicy and seasoned. The menu offers a taste level that parents will appreciate with food choices to please your kids! Add craft cocktails with a friendly neighborhood atmosphere and fabulous service and this place is a crowd pleaser! Come for dinner; stay to hang out. Check it out!

Yelp
I am so happy to see this place open in the neighborhood, it is a chill place where the food is good and the people who own the place are so nice. Great beer selection and great ambiance, you can bring the family and enjoy a night out. It is walking distance to my house so no need to Uber, a welcome place to have on San Bruno Ave.

Yelp
Awesome local bar with great food. Rich also knows his way around the bar. He's very friendly, makes great drinks, and provides great suggestions. Everything is ordered through Rich or someone from the bar and then you get a number for your table or seat at the bar. There are a few TVs with sports games. The bar has a very cool chill vibe. It's also kid friendly.
