The 15 Best Restaurants In Cape Town - Cape Town - The Infatuation

"You probably wouldn’t fly to Cape Town just to eat Greek food. But if you did, this spot wouldn’t disappoint. The breezy, whitewashed, glass-fronted restaurant feels like it’s straight out of Cyprus, but in many ways, it also fits right in: Ouzeri has become known for incorporating local ingredients into its traditional Greek dishes. Expect things like mint-dressed halloumi sourced from a microdairy an hour north of the city, or juicy Cape smoked mussels with beans and saffron broth. No matter how many times we go for dinner or how often the menu changes, the quality is consistent, and as we’re walking out the door, we’re always thinking about our next visit." - mary holland

The 18 Best Restaurants in Cape Town, South Africa | Eater

"Capetonians can’t seem to get enough of chef Nic Charalambous’s food, which draws inspiration from his family’s Cypriot heritage. Originally a pop-up, Ouzeri has now become a permanent restaurant set on Wale Street in downtown Cape Town. Located inside a bright white glass-fronted space, the restaurant feels like a casual Cypriot cafe, with simple wooden chairs and woven cushions set along banquette seating. The menu has a variety of small plates, like halloumi made by Charalambous’s sister-in-law, baked and served with dried honey and oregano, as well as grilled sardines with skordalia (garlic mashed potatoes) and fennel salad. It’s all delicious." - Mary Holland

I visited Ouzeri on October 4th, 2025, and had an absolutely incredible experience! Everything was top-notch, from the food to the service. We ordered six plates, and every single one was delicious. A massive shoutout to our waitress, Maggie! Her recommendations were spot-on, and she really made our evening special. You must try the Loukoumades! They were phenomenal, and the butter that came with them was, honestly, the best butter I've ever tasted in my entire life. The cocktails were also creative and amazing. Highly recommend Ouzeri for a fantastic meal and wonderful service.

We were recommended Ouzeri after a long hiatus from Cape Town. The fare was Greek with a Cypriot twist and delicious! Beware, the garlic does not subscribe to the subtlety of flavour. It stands proud in most dishes. The best of which is the cabbage. The sour dough ice cream is a must as a final palate cleanser.

My husband and I were looking forward to our visit for many months, since we are traveling from Gauteng. The food was absolutely incredible, 10 out of 10! But unfortunately the service and attitude of the staff was incredibly rude and we felt unwelcome. Clearly the staff aren’t incentivised to provide good service, because they automatically rip you off with a 12.5% tip. I won’t recommend anyone to visit this place. As a local, it felt like a tourist trap.

Banger! I felt like a bit of a mug going to a Greek/Cypriot restaurant in Cape Town, but Ouzeri delivered! Londonesque smallish plates were off putting at first but most dishes were really standout. Special mention to the eliopita! You’ve stolen my heart forever

Had a bit of a hiccup with our reservation—we waited 30 mins for a table despite having a booking, so one star deducted. Apart from that, the food was lovely and the vibe was great. One tip: updating your website. There’s menus from 2024!

The food is genuinely excellent. Every single course was outstanding and clearly prepared with great skill. Unfortunately, everything around the food is disappointing. The restaurant is highly overrated and overpriced for the portion sizes and overall experience. The only water available is their in-house filtered water. It had a noticeable chlorine taste, and there was no alternative offered. That is simply disappointing at this price level. Service felt unorganized and distant. There was no sense of real hospitality or attentiveness. An automatic 12.5% service charge is added, and it shows. There is little motivation to go the extra mile. Basic things went wrong. Bread arrived only after the fourth course, which broke the flow of the meal. The restaurant is also very loud - u feel like in a large canteen with additional loud music playing, making it hard to enjoy the experience. Great food alone is not enough. I would not recommend this place and would not return. Overall, it felt more like a poor value experience than a special dining moment.

Creative sharing dishes that sparked our tastebuds. Drinks were also well done. Expensive though for the portion sizes you get. We were recommended 7 dishes among 3 of us, and we were hungry afterwards. Service could have been more attentive. But overall worth it for the great flavors!

A good place to have dinner, meals are light yet filling .The ambiance is good in the evening. There is music, but the volume is okay for a conversation, while eating. The staff is. Over the top and very knowledgeable. Also the manager was great! 🔥 You can smoke outside in between your meals Reservations is a must
