Chef Bryan Caswell Is No Longer In Charge at Oxbow 7 | Eater Houston

"Just about four months after its debut at Le Meridien Houston, the chef’s contract to run the hotel restaurant was terminated; Bryan Caswell and his wife Jennifer are no longer affiliated with the restaurant they opened and, according to the Houston Chronicle, are “in discussions with an attorney” about how to proceed. Jennifer said they weren’t provided the ability to do their job the way they were hired to do, while the hotel’s owners framed the move as allowing the Caswells to focus on reopening their damaged flagship, Reef. Despite the split, Oxbow 7 will continue to operate as usual with a few tweaks to its menu and service." - Amy McCarthy

I had dinner with a friend on a Friday night. I highly recommend getting in early. We got there a 6:00 pm and before we knew it, the restaurant was full of activity. The restaurant is located on the 1st floor of the Le Méridien Houston Downtown with floor to ceiling windows. The accent wall is full of vibrant color and was created by a local artist. The cuisine is colorful with robust flavors. I would highly recommend selecting a few items to share from 1,2 and 3. These are smaller portions that are easy to share. For my entrée, I selected the Aged Strip with Chorizo Rice and added shrimp. It was simple perfection. The desserts are decadent, and again, I recommend selecting a couple to share.

Great higher end lunch spot for those Fridays. The food is unique and will be coming back to try their other options. One thing to note is that the lunch menu seems to be different than their dinner menu. The lunch menu entrees are serving more lunch orientated food like sandwiches, burgers, but does have the gumbo (no pork chop or stuffed quail as I was hoping). The service is great as well with a very personable waiter that checked on us and was prompt with refills and the check. I will come back again to try their dinner selections.

The place is located within minutes of accessible parking, the symphony hall and many other great locations for downtown Houston. The drinks were delicious, the staff was super friendly and the food was out quickly. A group of us shared the cornbread which was delicious and then we decided to order their dip that had ghost pepper caviar. That itself was just ok. I had the country fried pork chop which was decent. The desert we had was about average as well. Prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is pretty laid back. I'd go back for some drinks to catch up with friends if we just happened to be around the area.

Stylish interior, reasonable noise level, very good food, excellent cocktails, pleasant service, topped off with free valet service. Very enjoyable evening. Highly recommend tomahawk pork chop (pictured).

Interesting space attached to Le Méridien, but thankfully it doesn't give off the "hotel restaurant" vibe. Good range of original and classic cocktails, decent beer selection, and quite a wine list. Menu is arranged by number instead of name, but progresses as you would expect: lite bites up top, larger apps, soup/salad, on to entrees then desserts. Seafood is their strong point as the dry aged steak my wife got was not anything special, though it was still cooked properly. Definitely worth checking out!

If I could give this place a zero, I would. I ended up here because of a friend's birhday party, and I will never go again. Snobby, pretentious place, with absolutely terrible service. My grandma moves faster than the staff here. The food portions are ridiculously small and overprices as in any upscale place, which was no surprise. The surprise came when that same food tasted like feet. Only 4 entrees on the menu, and 4 desserts total. The wine list is comprised of 6 different versions of Merlot, so if you were hoping to drink some sweet wine, that's out of the window too. Oh yeah, and let's not forget the already included 20% gratuity for large parties that already gets included in your check as you walk through the door, even though you literally wait for about 30min just to get your drinks, not to mention the food. We left the place hungry and frozen, having paid $100 for the two of us, and all we had was 2 entrees and 2 beers and a cocktail. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy.

We had a friend visiting from out of town, who was friends with one of the chefs, so for his last night in Houston, we visited here. Looking at the menu, it is never something we would have picked out for ourselves, and in fact upon arrival, we spent about 30 minutes perusing the menu at a loss before letting the chef pick for us. Everything that was brought out was wonderful. We started with the cornbread and marmalade, which was the perfect combo of savoury and sweet, and moved onto the gumbo--the broth was amazing. I usually don't like gumbo because it relies on a thick heavy roux but this broth was almost like au jus. Wonderful! I ordered the popcorn shrimp with roasted cauliflower and shared it with the table but 2 bites in I wished I'd kept it all to myself. We finished with the pork/pesto dish and the quail. The quail was good but the pork was the highlight of the night. They brought us three desserts to sample. The soju tart was good, but I really enjoyed the devils food cake mousse. All in all--not what I was expecting but I was absolutely delighted.

Small menu. Medium cooked burger had excellent bacon and grilled onions, bit cooked medium well. Tea was strong. I'll likely return to see if I can get a better meal, but there was really only one item I was interested in ordering. Several Louisiana named dishes but not accurate such as the rabbit soup called a gumbo and the dirty rice that looks more like a Spanish rice with large chunks of meat.

Yelp
Pancakes were burnt and warning that pancakes are 11.00 a piece, so an order of 2 pancakes will set you back 22.00.

Yelp
I visited the location last night for a "Happy Hour: Networking Event." While the Event itself was amazing, the venue stunning, the service and price for this location was very disappointing. I waited for almost 15 minutes while the Bar-tender (with a basically empty bar) thought it a priority to put in his tips instead of checking the bar. (I knew exactly what he was doing as I was a bartender years prior). After 15 minutes he finally decided to approach me, no apology for the long wait whatsoever. I ordered a glass of Cabernet as part of the "happy hour" event.... then opt to close my tab out. A "happy hour" well glass of Cabernet was $17!! Without tax! I can only imagine what non-happy hour prices are. Absolutely ridiculous! Sadly the venue can not compensate for the terrible service and over priced drinks.
