Oyster River Winegrowers

I visited Oyster River Winegrowers in Warren, Maine, and had a mixed experience. The setting is charming, with a rustic barn and a cozy, farm-like atmosphere that’s perfect for a relaxed outing. We tried a flight of their wines, which were average—some interesting notes in their whites and rosés, but nothing particularly memorable or standout compared to other wineries. The tasting was a bit overpriced $15/flight for the quality, especially when compared to similar spots. What caught me off guard was the automatic 15% tip added to the bill. Given Maine’s tipped minimum wage is already high at $7.33 (or more depending on the town), this felt excessive, especially considering the cost of living here is lower than many other regions. The staff was friendly enough, but the auto-tip left a sour note. The wine and pricing could use some refinement.

We purchased Oyster River wines for our wedding reception dinner (we had wine bottles uncorked and open on the tables for guests to pour, as well as ciders) this past September in coastal Maine. We ordered the Chardonnay, Pet Nat, Pet Nat Rose, and Oyster River Red. They were so exceptional and delicious and our guests really raved about them. The wines truly elevated the meal and the staff at Oyster River couldn't have been more lovely to work with.

Awesome time spent here while on vacation from Canada. They had fresh baked pizza outside and awesome wine from the winery! I had the fermented rose and my partner had the merlot - both dry and refreshing.

We paid them a visit on October 13,2024. We were a bit disappointed in the wine selection we had tasted. We also did not expect the server to add a 15% gratuity on our bill of $15. Plus, no bathroom except the outhouse. It definitely not a place I would recommend

Great wine and vibe. We enjoyed a shaded afternoon hour here. Could use a fan or two to help with airflow in the barn, but it felt great on the picnic tables out front!

Truly the definition of a hidden gem. Delicious, natural wine from a small producer in rural Maine. Came for Pizza Night and did not disappoint. Ended up leaving with 8 bottles due to our wine with dinner (carbonic nation) being so delicious.

I think Brian is a really talented wine maker. Maine is not the easiest place to make wine, in part because there aren't too many other people doing it so it's kind of pioneering. Brian's wines are really well balanced. I love his cider. He's obviously doing this because he believes in it.

Oyster River Winegrowers is just off the beaten path in Warren. We were staying in nearby Rockland and had this on our must-visit list while in town. Thankfully we made it for their last open weekend for 2021! Service was extremely friendly - and we learned a ton about the winery and their practices. My husband listened to a podcast about the winery (which is why we'd wanted to visit), and the owner used to plow only using a horse. They have since switched to more modern ways - but I love that their wines are all-natural and with as minimal intervention as possible. The wines themselves are fantastic!! We had a 1/2 pour of each of the six offerings (sparkling white morphos, sparkling rose morphos, Chardonnay, cab franc, merlot and a cider) and I truly was surprised to find they are all GREAT!!! The sparkling white and Chardonnay were my favorites, but the reds were nice and dry and full of flavor. The cider was also dry and tart - it is lovely! The rose morphos was a bit too sweet for me, but tasty nonetheless! We will absolutely be back next time we are in the area!

This place is awesome and most definitely worth a stop when traveling between Portland and Acadia National Park, as we were. It's a big ol' barn full of haphazard seating at and away from the bar. There's a good selection of wines, and the casual atmosphere only got better during our stay as more people filed in and filled the place up more. But even without a crowd, it was a peaceful spot to sit and decompress for a bit after a busy several days hiking at the national park and driving around Maine. The wine was very tasty, with my wife saying one of the sparkling wines she had was particularly good. I went with a blueberry wine because Maine, right? Also quite good, as well as thematically appropriate. Shoutout to the cute pup who greeted us when we pulled into the parking lot and walked us to the front door. He was chilling on welcome-dog duty when we left a while later haha. Great mascot. Great place.

Brian and Ally are the couple that own and run this operation. They took time to explain how each product was created with their intention to provide natural products from locally sourced fruit. They make ciders and wine and even sparkling wine. They even host a regular event at which they have a mobile pizza oven and live music. This was a very unique find that respects what is local. I noticed that when they do use sugar in their products that it is organic. I am so glad that I found this spot.

On the way back from Acadia and we see the sign for a winery 2 miles off the highway were on. Perfect opportunity to stretch, use the restroom and taste some wine! Wrong. This place has a great concept, but it's not executed well. In a barn that is completely ran on horsepower. The "outhouse" was out of order, so you had to go to a porta pot outside. Neighbor down the street is in training to help them out poured our wine. He was very friendly and thankfully told us he was in training or else I'd wonder what was wrong. It's a great deal-$5 for 3 ciders and 5 wines. Unfortunately, I didn't like any of it. This is coming from someone who will drink box wine when needed. There was no dump bucket, so we made our own with a glass. The people were friendly and so was the cat and dog, but I was not a fan of the wine or ciders. Try it, but don't go with high expectations.

We won't pass up wine so when we passed the sign, we decided to check it out and stretch our legs. The barn was pretty cool and it overlooked the vineyards. Great view. The gentleman doing the tasting was very upfront with the fact that he was still learning the ropes. There were a few wines that were ok but nothing that I liked well enough to purchase. Tasting fee was $5 for a combination of ciders and wines. Overall, a promising winery with friendly employees. I just wasn't a big fan of the wine and ciders.

Amazing! People leaving reviews you have to know this is not your typical wine... these are funky bubbly natural wines ... they're awesome and the ambiance is so unexpected and perfect for Maine... a must stop and amazing wine! My brother in law who lives in Brooklyn NY buys it in NYC and they can't keep it in stock, so glad this winery exists!

Extremely laid back atmosphere. A wine tasting bar in a barn, we stopped on a Sunday afternoon. Five of us did the 5 tastes for 10.00 such fun and vey pleasant owner. We had a really great experience.

Great wine and nice environment....very friendly people and delightful children. The wine is natural. They also have hard Cider and blueberry wines. The morphos wine is my favorite.

The most delicious wines. Natural. Easy to drink!!! Also they have the best pizza nights on wednesdays!!!
