The Best Soup Dumplings In Los Angeles

"At P P Pop, a barebones café in Monterey Park, the motto is: the bigger the group, the better. The menu is packed with fantastic Taiwanese snacks, like popcorn chicken, meat-laden beef rolls, and a spicy braised noodle soup we haven’t stopped thinking about since eating. But for the purpose of this guide, let’s discuss the xiao long bao. Every order comes with eight dumplings, which are served properly in a bamboo steamer, the soft, wet dough twisted up at the top in a way that resembles a smooch. The broth inside is slightly sweet, and goes well with the generous side of ginger provided. It’s also piping hot (be warned)." - kat hong

Google
Very soft Taiwanese beef across the noodle dishes and the beef rolls. Probably my favourite beef noodle I’ve tried within LA.

Google
This place is top of my list for Taiwanese cuisine. The pan fried buns are undefeated, and we always eat them so fast I can never take a picture. Tried the fried squid for the first time as someone who was walking out recommended them to us, and they were next level. I will now never not get them, that’s how good they were. The shrimp fried rice was amazing too — nice classic flavor that paired really well with the seasonings on the squid. 12/10 meal

Google
Authentic taiwanese cuisine. We took beef noodle soups of course, and fried chicken and squid nuggets. Everything taste very good. The lemon teas we ordered were HUGE. Service is fast and friendly. We had a table right away, no need to wait. Finding a parking place may be difficult, parking is small and sharef with the supermarket next door.

Google
Delicious food, great taste and portions, and affordable prices. It’s my second time eating here, and I love it, I need to come back. 100 % recommend… Delicioso y super buenos precios..

Google
A delicious, more authentic, alternative to the usual Chinese food. Every thing we tried is amazing from the popcorn chicken that has a delicious hint of cumin, to the soup dumplings and the beef roll, the wait for dinner time came before quite long but it’s worth every minute you wait. Dinner for four was around sixty five dollars so, very affordable.

We love p.p pop. My family goes there once a week! The food is always fresh and delicious. The green tea drink is in a huge jug Not to mention popcorn chicken is a big bowl of yummyness. The waitress staff is very attentive speaking good English and Mandarin.

Google
Glad to discover another nice Taiwanese restaurant around LA. Very hospital staff. The beef noodle soup is certainly their specialty - unique thick al dente noodles, very tender tendons (chunks of beef not so much), interesting broth with herbal accents. Impressed by their shrimp & pork dumplings - the pork portion was probably fulfilled by the filing of XLB on the menu, which made the dumplings very pleasantly juicy; just wished the wrapper were thinner. In all, don’t expect anything extraordinary, but great value and certainly above peers.

Google
Chill restaurant — we visited at a Sunday morning around 11am, and they had no line, by the way we left there was a 15-20 min wait. Great place to visit when you have family in town. Vibe is chill, affordable, not pretentious, and the food was quite tasty. The beef noodle soup could pack a bit more flavor, but I still enjoyed it. Food: good Atmosphere: casual Service: good Do not miss: Pan fried Pork Bao

Yelp
PP Pop is my all-time favorite restaurant in Monterey Park! Their customer service is always top tier, and the waiters/waitresses work very effectively and quickly to ensure that each table's needs are tended to. If you go during the weekends, there's almost always a wait because of how good their food is. It's definitely less packed on the weekdays for sure. They have a paper menu where you can just check off how many and which item you want to order. They sometimes give it to you to fill out when you are waiting for your table so that they can enter in your order immediately when you are seated. I always order the Pork Potstickers and the Mala Spicy Beef Rice Noodle Soup. Their potstickers are a MUST TRY. They are fried to perfection with a nice crispy the outer layer, and inside the dumpling, there is a lot of soup and a savory pork ball. Their noodles are so smooth and goes very well with the numbing spicy broth! I love that they add in corn and bak choy (my two favorite veggies) in the noodle soup as well. They also have very good and refreshing drinks and they come in a HUGE cup! My favorite is the passion fruit iced tea! I would say it's a pretty small restaurant, but still feels spacious! Everyone that I've introduced his restaurant to has enjoyed it! Highly recommend!

Yelp
Pretty solid Taiwanese food. Ordered the House Special Beef Noodle Soup, Fish Pickled Vegetable Rice Noodle Soup, and Beef Roll. The House Special Beef Noodle Soup was good but pretty standard. The beef pieces were tender and the noodles had a slight chew. The soup was good but wasn't spectacular. The Fish Pickled Vegetable Rice Noodle Soup was good and tasted almost homemade. I liked the pickled vegetables as it added a nice kick to the soup. The noodles and fish were decent. The Beef Rolls were good as well but I prefer the ones from Noodle St. The pancakes were perfectly fried so it had a nice and crispy exterior. The beef inside was pretty standard. Overall, a good place to come to if you are craving some Taiwanese food. The portions are quite large too so it's great for dining with the family.

Yelp
I was a little skeptical about this restaurant but after coming here for over 5 times now and getting consistent service and quality food, I definitely see why this is a gem in the SGV. Their popcorn chicken and crispy squid are must order! The batter is light making it so crispy but not too oily/heavy. A lot of people order their signature beef noodle soup. I prefer their tomato beef more since it has a nice little tang flavor and tomato goes well with beef! The fujian stir fry vermicelli noodle is also surprisingly delicious and has a lot of "wok hay". Dont forget to order their honey lemon iced tea. Literally comes in a big jug thats equivalent to 2 large cups of boba tea! Parking: theres limited parking in front pf the restaurant and a shared parking lot at the back.

Yelp
Food: While there are numerous Taiwanese style dishes to choose from, I got the Beef noodle soup with rice noodles and the Shrimp and pork with leeks dumplings. The beef soup was large and plentiful. I love the good amount of beef offered in the bowl! The noodles were perfect in texture and the beef was slow cooked to perfection and packed with soy, umami flavor. Unfortunately the soup was a little underwhelming as it was clean and light but lacked a distinct beefy flavor. Definitely needed to dress it up with all the fixings to transform it from good to great. The steamed dumplings were straight fire! Succulent, juicy, and packed with meaty filling. I really wish I had room to get the other dishes including the xiaolongbao, the beef rolls, and others. Service: We were quickly seated and got our order in efficiently. Minimal interaction but that's okay. I love having the large jug of water on the table so we don't have to keep flagging down the waiters. Atmosphere: Dinner time was packed and we just made it before the evening rush. Love the sounds of noodle slurping and happy eating. Minimal decor and mostly the focus is on the food.

Yelp
I came in for lunch with a group of 5 and were seated right away. This isn't a huge restaurant and have about 12 tables in total. We ordered the fried calamari, popcorn chicken, pan fried dumplings, beef roll to share and I got the beef noodle soup. Everything tasted pretty good. I liked the house beef noodle soup. The broth was very flavorful and noodles nice and chewey. Service was quick and food came out relatively fast. Parking lot and street parking.

Yelp
OMG The Beef Roll! Came here with friends so we had the pleasure of trying a bunch of different things. One thing to know is that the portion sizes are big! Definitely enough to share. DanDan Noodles were delicious. Not too spicy, but still had a little kick. Ginseng and duck soup was very flavorful and definitely something I would order again. There's also a certain novelty to it, so definitely worth exploring. The beef noodle soup was delicious. The beef was tender, and the noodles had a great consistency. Perfectly chewy. The popcorn chicken is a huge portion. Definitely an appetizer to share for the whole table.

Yelp
I have taken PP Pop take out before, but this was my first time eating in the restaurant and let me tell you, I'm definitely gonna eat at the restaurant from now on. My friend and I wanted to meet for the holiday, so we were going to meet at Mr. Dragon Noodle House, but she told me this was their store so we came here to eat instead. It was definitely a little less crowded and more parking than their sister restaurant. OK, let's get down to the food. We order their fries, squid, popcorn chicken, House Special Xiao Long Bao, beef roll, pan fried pork bao, pork potstickers, and another noodle dish that I didn't get a chance to take pictures of. We also order their mango and passionfruit green tea. Let me tell you... Everything was delicious. All the baos were nice and juicy (be careful. There is a lot of juice inside and is pretty hot). There is not one thing that I didn't like from our order. Their service was great and the food came out at a timely order. If I'm closer to Monterey Park, I will definitely come back again. Make sure to put this place on your bookmark!!

Yelp
This place gets busy so be sure to come on off hours. We put in a phone order 30min before closing and our order was done in 15min. Fried Calamari - 10/5 Their fried calamari is to die for! I'd honestly come here just for that. Perfectly seasoned and perfectly crispy. Mild spice is pretty spicy as well. I also love how one order has so much! Spicy oil dumplings - 2/5 wasn't a fan. I've tried this order from many other places and am not a fan here at pp pop unfortunately. They used dumplings instead of wontons and the dumpling wrap was very thick. They also used ginger which I personally don't like ginger at all. If you like ginger this may be fine for you. They also didn't have as much flavor and not much peanut crumbs as others have used. Overall wouldn't order again Signature fried rice - 4/5 better than expected. It was pretty flavorful and went well with our other orders. The rice was a tad mushy but may be bc it was in a Togo box Guo tie - 3/5 the bun was thick and chewy which wasn't what I'd expect but the filling was delicious and juicy. I think they used a little bit of ginger which I personally don't like

Yelp
I consider myself a beef noodle soup connoisseur, so when I say this place is good, I mean THIS PLACE IS GOOD! The broth is not at all heavy and it's not spicy but it still has the doubanjiang (豆瓣醬)flavor. The beef is incredibly tender, dripping with the flavor from the soup, and not at all dry despite its thickness. The noodles are chewy and soak up the broth well and the portion is huge -- definitely enough for two meals. Ask for a (free!) box at the end if you need! This place is better AND cheaper than Corner Beef if you're looking for a beef noodle soup fix. The thickness of the beef roll makes the textural experience so delightful. The sauce is perfectly sweet and I really like how their meat is shredded (instead of a flat piece) so the ratio is better and it doesn't fall apart quite as easily. If you've had beef rolls before, you know how sometimes you can't bite apart the meat and it just comes sliding out and then everything is sad. Bring a group of friends and then you can try soo much more food!! Everything looks absolutely fire.

Yelp
This is a small Taiwanese restaurant located right next to a market. The parking lot is small and there are a lot of people during lunch time for some reason. We ordered everything in mild spice and many mild spice dishes can become spicy real quick. I should've ordered non spicy for both appetizers and the non spicy beef soup instead. The beef soup was really tasty. They give you a lot of beef with the soup and it's a good size for the price. The soup dumplings were alright (I think Mama lus is better) but definitely come for a popcorn chicken and beef noodle soup craving. The chicken was very flavorful and delicious taste. Order the giant ice tea drinks. The apple mint was so good and helped cool my tongue from all the spices hitting it. Beware that the green tea is also this big. If you want hot tea, order the hot tea from the menu.

Yelp
Whenever I'm in the area, I try to stop by here for some delicious Taiwanese food. It's located in the plaza where HK Good Fortune supermarket is. Parking can get busy because of the market. There's also street parking available. Since the restaurant is a bit small, there's usually a wait. The wait is never too bad though. While you're waiting, the workers hand you a list to mark off the items you want. That way, you can just hand them your order once you're seated. Then, they can make your food right away. There's not one dish that is bad here. Some of my favorite dishes are the spicy braised beef noodle soup, the xiao long baos, and the black pepper beef fried udon. The food comes out piping hot, so be careful not to burn your mouth. Make sure to order the fruit tea because it comes in a giant mug! I always have leftovers because I can't finish everything. Workers are quick to serve you if you need anything else. The food is always delicious and fresh here. There's actually parking. What else can you ask for? I can't recommend this restaurant enough.

Yelp
I finally got to try the beautiful potstickers I've been eyeing ever since my first visit and I can confirm that they perfected the dumpling skirt. There was a beautiful lattice surrounding all 8 dumplings that was super crispy and golden. Unfortunately, the filling was just mediocre. There wasn't as much filling and I felt that it could've used more salt to bring out more of the flavor. The skin was pretty thick, which I like so I didn't mind, but there wasn't enough filling to balance it out. The service is pretty quick and efficient and the food also comes out relatively fast after ordering. Our group went out for a late lunch on a Friday but it was pretty packed for 2 p.m.

Yelp
This place really hit the spot! Food: 5/5 P P Pop features traditional Chinese food. We ordered their pan fried pork boas, steamed shrimp and pork dumplings, pan fried potstickers, popcorn chicken, and sesame cold noodles. All the food was delicious. My favorite was their popcorn chicken. It was crispy, flavorful, and brought back so much nostalgic memories from my high school days. The pan fried pork dumpling were super juicy and the broth was so favorable. Ambiance: 5/5 The location of this place kinda sucks because it's in a corner of a dingy plaza. However, once you get inside, it's bright and cute. Service: 5/5 We got seated really quickly. The food came out fresh and hot but also pretty quickly. The service was wonderful and the staff were very attentive.

Yelp
I came here with the idea that their popcorn chicken is delicious and very generous with their portions, which ended up being one of the only thing I ordered... and it definitely did not disappoint. We ordered 2 popcorn chickens between 4 people and we had to take some home. Parking is definitely a challenge on a weekend considering that this plaza is shared with a supermarket, back and front. We did have to wait about 15 minutes since this place was p-p-poppin and since this place was pretty small compared to the demand of this place. I saw tons of other tables ordered the beef rolls as well as their beef noodles. I hope to stop on by soon to try those since I was not hungry on my first visit. Worth another trip and journey in their parking lot to try this place again!

Yelp
I came here because I wanted some soup dumplings and decided to check this place out since I heard great things about it. I came here on a Sunday afternoon and the wait was long, probably an hour to get seated. The restaurant is located in a plaza, with a small parking lot and street parking. We were served with menus as we waited, so we already knew what to order once we got seated. Pork Xiao Long Bao (3.5/5): These were good, but the dough was really thick. The filling and soup was good, but I would have liked for a thinner, more silkier dough. But it was still a solid dish, and I would get this again. Chili Oil Shrimp Dumplings (3/5): I didn't like this dish too much because the chili oil had the Szechuan numbing pepper effect. I'm not sure if that was the intention, but the spiciness of this dish was a lot to handle and the dumpling dough was thick, which I would have preferred to be thinner. I don't think I'll be getting this dish again. Overall this restaurant is quite popular and bustling, and prices are affordable for what you get. I would come back here to try their other dishes such as their beef noodle soup or their beef roll cakes. The portions are pretty big, so definitely come here on an empty stomach.

Yelp
My cousin in law took us here for dinner. There are limited parking available in the lot and long wait at this popular restaurant. After a long wait in the cold, we were finally seated. Lots of tables in cramped and narrow space but lots of happy faces. We ordered a few items to share, family style. Taiwanese popcorn chicken, house special beef noodle soup, fried noodles and beef roll. I really enjoyed the beef rolls more than expected. Nice and crispy on the outside and lots of meat inside. Popcorn chicken was crispy and juicy. The noodle soup was pretty decent and well seasoned. I enjoyed the broth alot.

Yelp
This was heaven ~ I definitely want to come back and wish we had tried the Beef Roll! The restaurant is on the smaller side, but it adds to the charm and exclusivity in it. It was packed when we got there, all tables literally filled and people filing in as parties leave. Everything was tasty, I want to go back soon!
google avatar

Katherine S.

Yelp
Great spot to get beef noodle soup! Definitely get their signature beef noodle soup and I love how you can customize it. I chose to get half beef stew and half beef tendon and add an egg (there are other toppings you can add including pickled veggies). Beef is super super tender and really melts in your mouth - also great portion! What really surprised me was the bok choy - super fresh and not stringy if you know what I'm talking about! The beef rolls are good but I wish there's a bit more sauce in there! They do give you a generous amount of beef though! Note that there might be a line since the place isn't huge but it's well worth it! There's parking in the plaza!
google avatar

Sharon K.

Yelp
Located in Hong Kong market plaza, right across the street from ABC Café. It doesn't look like much from the outside. The food is delicious and the prices are pretty reasonable for the portion size. The place is pretty small and limited seating. So there is usually a wait. My favorites: xiao long bao, popcorn chicken, fried rice, and iced tea!
google avatar

Rich S.

Yelp
This was a very busy place - but we came at the perfect time (1:15pm) and had no one in front of us and we were able to seat quickly. Our guests are not fans of the more exotic stuff, so we stuck with some safe items - and it was all delicious. The food did come out quickly, and was plentiful. There isn't a ton of seats, but right sized and with the food coming out quickly and being very good, they turn the tables quickly. They were also very diligent in refilling water - which was frankly a nice touch in a Chinese restaurant. As much as they may want us to "eat and go", we never felt rushed. Although we did get to sit quickly, the line formed outside and a lot of folks lined up even with other Chinese restaurants in walking distance, even across the street. This had a line because it was worth it!

Yelp
Everything was amazing! Had the Spicy Braised Beef Soup. Was better than I had hoped for. Meat falls apart and are generous with their portions. Dumplings, squid and spicy fishballs was also excellent. Will definitely be coming back...
google avatar

Jeff C.

Yelp
I liked it. Came in for dinner with a friend. Inside is simple, spacing a little tight. Better for small groups. The place fills up fast so there was a bit of a wait but it wasn't too bad. We got the popcorn chicken, fried squid, beef roll, and pan fried dumplings. Everything was so good. I liked the lighter batter on the squid and chicken. We only got mild for my friend but next the I'll get it spicy for my own taste preference. They have a big menu with other rice and noodle dishes, they even have ramen and boba drinks, so I'll definitely be coming back to try more. Service was good. Fast and friendly staff. Easy parking in the shopping center lot.

Yelp
I LOVEEEE THIS PLACE!! This is my go to comfort food spot whenever I'm back in LA. Honestly I tried this place on a whim but now I take everyone here! The beef noodle soup is so comforting and homey. They have a perfect meat to veggie ratio with the noodles. I love the pan fried baos - soooo juicy with the perfect bottom crisp! Those two are always my go to when I come here! The bok choy in garlic was one of my friends' favorite dishes when we went together. This place is definitely a whole in the wall restaurant but I can't help but recommend this place to everyone!
google avatar

Yelp
Comfort food that reminds you of childhood. Also they have the biggest glasses for your drinks, close to 1L size. Their food also comes in huge portions so you'll have some left over for lunch the next day! Their pan fried baos are legit, bite carefully! It's not made right if the juice doesn't immediately squirt everyone when you bite into it. The popcorn chicken is the perfect ratio of batter and chicken. They pack a pinch, even the mild ones too, so choose your spicy level carefully! There can be a small wait sometimes during dinner rush!

Yelp
The parking lot fits about 40 cars, but it was packed when I visited on a Sunday afternoon. Street parking is also available. The ambiance was cozy and clean, with well-kept furniture. The staff was kind and attentive. The food was fantastic. I ordered two dishes for two people, and the spice level was perfect on both: - Dumplings: Juicy and well-seasoned pork filling, with thin, handmade wrappers. I only wish there was more filling. - Spicy Beef Noodle Soup: Tender, flavorful beef paired with a rich, spicy bone broth. Most of the other ingredients were blanched and could have used more flavor, but the beef made up for it. The beef had the perfect bite to it - not so soft that it fell apart and not so tough that it was stringy. In my opinion, the perfect tenderness for braised beef. At just under $40 including tip, this was a satisfying, comforting, and filling meal for a cold LA winter day. The food is clearly made from scratch, with complex layers of flavors and seasoning that make it worth the price. While it's not the cheapest option, it's definitely worth it when you want to skip cooking and treat yourself to takeout or enjoy a cozy date spot.
google avatar

Yelp
This is purely for the popcorn chicken. My mom and I both love popcorn chicken and have been looking for a place that sells it while being decently priced. On yelp, it's marketed as $11 but we got 2 orders for a total of $18.74 making it about $9 each. You get a decent amount of chicken. It fills a typical Chinese takeout box without closing the lid. We got spicy and mild and honestly the mild is a little more easier to eat. The spicy definitely has our sinuses flowing LOL. We suggest to get the mild and ask for extra spice powder on the side to add in according to your taste. Overall, the chicken is a little soggy but nothing a quick pop in the air fryer can't fix. Maybe if you eat it there it would be crispier. We took it home so it sat in a plastic bag for 7 minutes. This restaurant shares a parking lot with the Hong Kong market so finding a spot was not hard. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Disappointing Return to Consistency I'm not sure what happened this time, but several of the dishes I ordered were very different from my first and second visit. The quality just wasn't the same, which was disappointing. Here's what I tried this time: * Beef Noodle Soup: Unfortunately, this lacked the bold flavors I enjoyed the first time I visited. It felt flat and unseasoned. I'd rate it 2/5. * Fried Buns: These were a major letdown. The dough was thin, more like a wonton wrapper than a proper bao, leaving them more like dumplings than fluffy buns. Definitely a 1/5 for me. * Dan Dan Noodles: Thankfully, this dish was as good as I remembered. The flavors were spot on, and I'd still give it a 5/5. * Beef Rolls: These were just okay. The texture felt a bit stale, and they were skimpy on the greens. I'd rate them a 3/5. I don't understand what's changed, but I really hope they return to the quality they had just a couple of months ago. This visit didn't meet the standards I experienced during my first time here.

Yelp
I first tried P.P. Pop through Uber Eats but finally had a chance to dine in at the restaurant. I came around 7:15pm and there was no wait to be seated. Service was quick. The food portions are a lot larger than I remembered from the delivery size. I ordered the beef roll, garlic bok choy, Dan Dan noodles, and fried squid. All were cooked to perfection in their own way. Beef roll had a good beef to wrap ratio. The bok choy did not look appetizing but I was wrong; it had the right amount of saltiness and garlic. The Dan Dan noodles had a lot of sauce so each bite was very creamy. Fried squid was as expected. The seasoning is the same as their popcorn chicken seasoning so if you like their popcorn chicken, you will enjoy the squid. I would definitely be back to try other dishes from their menu.

Yelp
We saw that this place had really great reviews and decided to check it out and ordered the following: - Xiao Long Bao - Popcorn Chicken - Pan Pan Fried Pork Bao - House Special Beef Noodle Soup - Pork Potstickers I thought that the food, although good, was pretty standard and similar to most other Taiwanese restaurants around the SGV. I did like how big the size for the popcorn chicken was.

Yelp
I was kind of on a beef noodle soup kick while working in the area for a while. And this place came up on a social media feed that I saw. I added it to my list right away! I'm not sure if it's because of its popularity or location, but this place was pretty busy on a weeknight when I met up with my friend here. The vibe was abuzzin haha. It looks like this place has Taiwanese favorites and you can come in ordering like a café, but the menu also lends well to pretty large groups / family dinners. Me and my buddy both ordered a bowl of beef noodle soup. We also ordered some steam soup dumplings, and the beef roll cake to share. The flavors for the dishes were quite amazing. Seriously some of the best beef noodle soup that I personally had. The dumplings were very delicate and had a great structure to them holding in the soup perfectly and not breaking apart. The serving size of the beef noodle soup was huge and honestly, we probably didn't need to order all the food with that we did, but I'm glad that we did at the same time ha ha. The one item that I'm sad that we didn't order on that visit was the pan fried dumplings. I mean, we already ordered too much anyway, but I guess I'll just have to get this next time. There's a lot of parking in the lot. It's also located next to an Asian grocer.

Yelp
Went to this place per my bestie's recommendation and it was so tasty! I'm Taiwanese and haven't had bomb Taiwanese food in forever. We came in at 8:30 and the place was packed still. We sat at a table for 2 and over ordered photos and they moved us to a table for 4. Food was pipin' hot and everything was cooked well! Can't wait to come back and try their other dishes. PS they do close at 9 on the dot so we left a few minutes before 9 but there were so many customers still. Let the staff leave on time!

Yelp
Really good spot! The interior is a bit stuffy but overall the food was yummy. The beef noodle soup is good. And the service is pretty fast as well.

Yelp
I was surprised by how incredible this place is and it's definitely going to be one of my go-tos for dumplings and noodles. Located just outside a grocery market, the long wait was a good sign, and it did not disappoint. The restaurant is on the smaller side but the wait is completely worth it. Here's what we ordered: Iced Mango Green Tea - The mango flavor was absolutely delicious and it comes in a large jug that is perfect for sharing between two people Hot Oil Pork with Vegetable Wontons - The sauce was delicious and the wontons had the perfect balance of pork and vegetables Dan Dan Noodles - The peanut sauce was quite heavy but the flavors are rich and delicious Popcorn Chicken - The spicy seasoning added a great kick and it was cooked well Steamed Pork Bao - This is a must-try! I dare say it's as good as Din Tai Fung's but for much less I highly recommend this place. It's relatively affordable, and you really can't go wrong with any of their dishes.

Yelp
Come during rush hours there will be a wait. Write name down on a waiting list. - Green Apple Green Tea 5/5 It's not as sweet and the green apple isn't too prominent. It's pretty good! Large glass. - Pan Fried Pork Bao 3.1/5 Very very hot. The bao itself is very thick. - Pan Fried Pork Stickers 3.2/5 It's good with the texture difference between the pan fried and steamed top. The wrapping is thick, little filling inside. - Beef Roll Cake 1.9/5 Didn't enjoy this. It was pretty dry. - Hot Oil Pork w/ Vegetable Wontons 2.2/5 The wonton is juicy but the wrapping is a bit thick and the hot oil sauce does not taste that yummy. - House Special Beef Noodle Soup 4.3/5 Huge pieces of tender beef. Soup is pretty good. - Braised Beef Tendon Rice Noodle 1.8/5 The tendon is so delicious. It's braised so it's gelatin-y. However it doesn't fit the rice noodles. - Beef Fried Rice 5/5 It's just so good here. I love fried rice here- [RECOMMEND] mix with chili crisp! Free parking in small lot.

Yelp
P P Pop is located in downtown Monterey Park. I went to grab some takeout on a Friday evening. As expected, it was very busy. The parking lot is shared with a supermarket, so space was definitely limited. After ordering and paying for my order, I waited on the side. It took about 13 minutes to get my order. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The staff were also very attentive of customers that were dining. There was always sometime looking at the tables every few seconds to see if anyone needed help. For my order, I got (1) beef roll and (1) xiao long bao. It came with a little bit of vinegar and ginger. The beef roll had a good amount of beef and tasted good. However, it did fall apart pretty easily with a bite. The xiao long bao tasted good, but it started to get hard, since I waited a bit to eat it. Note: They do accept credit card, but not American Express.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place as I had my layover here in LA. And man was this place so good. I wanted something comforting, warm, Asian, and soupy. And P P Pop gave all of that to me. Service was quick and efficient, and the waiters are pretty nice. I had three things on mind. The pork potstickers, Taiwanese beef noodle soup, and the Taiwanese beef roll. Very classic dishes all done right for me. To start off, the potstickers had a lot of good flavor. It was plump, the crispy bottom was good and there was a good ample of filling in each wrap. The Taiwanese beef roll was also really good. Lots of filling as well, the roll was crispy, and it just felt like I was getting a good mouthful with each bite. In terms of appetizers, I would definitely recommend these two. And lastly, the Taiwanese beef noodle soup was exactly what I needed. The soup was flavorful and portion-wise it was really good! It just felt like a standard good bowl of noodles, with the beef being pretty tender and meaty. I also wanted to order a drink but that would have been overkill for me. But the drinks there are huge though. Definitely recommend giving this place a try if you're in Monterey Park!

Yelp
Leaning towards a 4.5/5 stars review for P.P. Pop! TL;DR: The menu offers Chinese food / Taiwanese cafe style food done right. It doesn't reinvent the wheel but excels at what it does. My friends and I visited on two occasions: Friday evening at 6:15 PM (no wait time) and Sunday afternoon at 1 PM (20-minute wait time). Parking isn't an issue within the lot, but if it's full, there's ample street parking in the adjacent neighborhood. We ordered the beef roll, pan-fried pork bao, xiao long bao (soup dumplings), dan dan noodles, and hot oil pork with vegetable wontons. Beef Roll (C4): 5/5 Crispy, crackly goodness encasing a generous amount of beef. The cilantro wasn't overpowering, and it pairs well with a tiny dab of soy sauce. Pan-Fried Pork Buns (C2): 5/5 Everyone's favorite! Crunchy bottom baos that are perfectly chewy. The pork meatball inside is extremely juicy, so be careful when eating! Take small nibbles, or else the juice will make a mess. Hot Oil Pork with Vegetable Wontons (C9): 5/5 Perfectly balanced veggie and meaty filling swimming in mildly spicy chili oil and peanuts. The wonton crevices allow the oil to cling delicately onto the wrap. Xiao Long Bao (C1): 3/5 Don't get me wrong, these weren't bad at all! Maybe my standards for XLB are particularly high, but nothing wowed me. I'd still recommend it if you have a hankering for XLB or have never tried it. Don't forget to add a sliver or two of the ginger! Dan Dan Noodles (D11): 4/5 So rich and satisfying! There was a very generous amount of peanut sauce. My only small critique is that it's difficult to share since the noodles are very long (I wish we had food scissors!). Additionally, the sauce was almost too rich for my liking. If the peanut sauce was dialed back just a bit, it would have been perfect, but these are still delightful. The servers are quick to bus tables, take orders, and serve water. The bathroom was also clean! You def get a bang for your buck here! Overall, a solid restaurant to take friends and family of all age groups in the 626 area.

Yelp
I was craving for some noodles and dumplings when we were running errands in the area. Yelp helped me deciding this is the place to be. We got there around 6pm on a Sunday and the restaurant was full with several parties waiting outside. We decided to order to go. The staff all seemed very busy but like a well oiled machine. They were very efficient in taking my order and payment. We ordered pan fried pork bao, Dan Dan noodles, popcorn chicken, pork potstickers. Everything was delicious and hit the mark. The noodles were chewy and the potstickers and the bao were made fresh. Overall a very good meal. Thanks Yelp for helping me find a good spot for dinner! I will be back again when I'm in the area.

Yelp
Its interesting of the name is very different from the old name that literally translated the chinese writing. In chinese its called 1 dragon which another old location was called dragon mark. There is another exact restaurant with same chinese name but the english is also different that is located in Rosemead, ca. Anyway, to the point. Had i known this was the 1 dragon restaurant i known it as. i would have came here sooner than drive to the other locations. Their food was always delicious no matter which you choose. Known dish includes the beef noodle soup which i love the most. Their beef is always very tender it almost melts in your mouth tender. The pan fried pork bao is also delicious with lots of juice maintained. My son has difficulty eating eat for texture and he loves these hear and eats them without any issues. Their popcorn chicken is costly but makes sense why now because they are 2-3x the amt to boba tea shops. Speaking of tea, don't let the costly drink food you because you will get literally a 44oz style beer glass mug. Their service is also amazing with usually 3 servers for the small little place so they will always see you if you need something for that reason.

Yelp
Highlights at P.P.Pop are the beef dishes such as the beef rolls and beef noodle soup. The giant drinks are also a great deal at only $5! Some say this place is a Din Tai Fung alternative, so the hubby and I came by to assess for ourselves. Sadly, when it comes to great soup dumplings, the ones here are mediocre at best. The skin was tough and hard in some areas. There was also barely any soup in them and some of the soup dumplings came with broken skin with all the soup leaked out. Since I don't see anyone making the xiao long baos in house, I'm going to assume these are likely frozen and premade. They are definitely not comparable to Din Tai Fung. Now onto the dishes I did enjoy, the spicy chili oil wontons were indeed very spicy! It was drenched in a spicy mala sauce that left my mouth burning. I definitely needed that giant jug of tea! The beef rolls were nice and crispy and beef noodle soup were also great since they came with large portions of beef. I enjoyed these dishes the most out of everything we ordered. Overall, if you want classic Taiwanese dishes this place does has alot to offer. But skip on the dumplings and xiao long baos. There's way better places in the SGV.

Yelp
Reasonable prices, massive portions! There isn't a ton of seating, but turnover was pretty quick. Service was efficient and attentive. The popcorn chicken was so fresh and crunchy, and the bowl was HUGE. We got both the house special beef noodle soup and the spicy one - both were good but next time I'd just get the house special. They both had so much beef which we were all very pleased about. We also ordered a side of tendon, love that you can do that. The xiao long bao was solid but not outstanding. The pan friend pork bao was soft & juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. I think I would've preferred the shrimp dumplings pan-fried, but they were still good steamed and they didn't skimp on the fillings. Would definitely come back to try more of the menu!

Yelp
Awesome place with delicious food and fast service. The cozy place fills up fast. Parking available in the front and also behind the adjacent grocery store.

Yelp
We arrived right at opening and were pleasantly surprised to see no line. We were the only ones here for a good 20 min. We ordered: - Taiwanese basil popcorn chicken - xiao long bao - beef noodle soup, all beef - beef noodle soup, 1/2 beef 1/2 tendon - potstickers Food was good. I listed above in the order of tastiest first. My youngest son monopolized the popcorn chicken and devoured it. I could have used a bit more fried basil. We ordered "little spicy" for the kids. They still found it borderline spicy - which is what I wanted for myself. The wait staff warned us "little spicy" was pseudo hot for kids. That was nice of them accurately. The XLB were the bomb too. Beats DTF in my book. Beef was tender and well portioned. Tendon was tender. Broth was good. The leek potstickers we expected to be good. They looked great. My boys love chive. But it was the only thing that fell flat. Was out shone by everything else. The filling needed a bit more material and flavor. Clean bathroom. The restaurant is better maintained than the Asian shopping area attached where vinyl tiles are peeling off the floor, window dressings are misaligned and dented tin foil pans, and tape is operating as hardware. Not the best part of town to take a date, gents. Waiters are Asian. Patrons are Asian. Legit legit. Soon enough, the locusts descended and the line went out the door, down the patio stairs. People were giving us the hard stare to chew more quickly and cede our seats. So we got out of dodge.

Yelp
The food is delicious. I usually just get the popcorn chicken and strawberry green tea. I've ordered PP Pop a few times on DoorDash and I will say that ordering the strawberry green tea dining in is significantly bigger than ordering to go. Always a place to come back to! The XLB is also delicious!

Yelp
Food is great. The selection is good. Whether it's take out or dining in, the food is always tasty. Just like most of the other reviewers, the beef roll, popcorn chicken, pan fried baos, and just about any of the noodle dishes (make sure to get a side of the preserved vegetables) is super tasty. Parking can be a beast, but you can always park in the back of the super market or on side streets.

Yelp
tl;dr: 4.5 Stars, local's favorite. Pretty much everything is good here. Yea this place has been here forever for a reason: it tastes great and is priced well. In the land of ever-expanding Chinese food, this Taiwanese spot still has it together. I think this place tastes better than before. Beef noodle soup has a great broth, better than the salty one at Corner Beef. Only 3 thick chunks of beef but braised pretty well. Get the tendon and beef imo, you get more for the $$. They charge for pickled vegetables now, so if you don't wanna pay that extra $1.50 (they give you a lot though), get the bowl that comes with it already. Excellent noodle texture, they know how to cook it right. The soup and style reminds me of the OG Taiwanese beef noodle soup. This is always the highlight dish for me. Popcorn chicken now has a cumin kick to it, similar to lamb skewer seasoning. Good portion for the price, great to share with the table. Beef roll has no cucumber so it's full of meat. The pancake wrap could be a little better but this is still good. Not overly slathered with hoisin or whatever sweet sauce people put in beef rolls. Pan fried dumplings has a great texture and pretty good filling, soft on one side, crispy on the other. Tasty by itself or mix up a soy sauce + vinegar dip. Pan fried bao comes in six and seems smaller now. Still juicy and tasty, breading is thin compared to other places. Their chili oil is tasty, I think they make it themselves but it goes well with everything, especially the beef noodle soup and beef rolls. This place has been next to HK supermarket, now Good Fortune for quite a while now, the food is similar to Mr. Dragon Noodle House (they both have the same Chinese name), but I like this location for the quick service (they do check up on you), ease of access, and the small restaurant feel.

Yelp
PP Pop offers wide variety of noodles, dumplings, and rice dishes. It is a great Chinese eatery where they offer something for everyone. It is located next to Hong Kong supermarket in Monterey Park. Parking is limited. Service is friendly, it can be slower because they are very busy. Ambiance is fast food, clean, and modern. We ordered bruised beef noodle soup half meat half tendon. I like the noodle, soup, and ingredients. We ordered House special steam pork bun, it is better than average XLB, bit dry to me. And Minced pork noodle with dark sauce. This one is a bit bland, meat is salty not the sauce. Overall, it's a good place for quick meal, not for hanging out.

Yelp
Update reminders to self - Drinks no longer have free refill - Popcorn chicken good if eaten there, take out gets soggy - beef roll has odd stench to it. Stick to ahgoo for this dish

Yelp
Go early or during off-peak days/hours, they are popular and tables fill quickly. We were among the first 3 tables 15min after opening on Sun 1/26/25 (11:13) and the place was full by 11:50am. We had chili oil wonton and house noodle soup (random mix of shell-on shrimp, sliced pork, half tea egg, bean curd, etc). I'm mostly carnivore leaning keto and so I ordered a side of beef, and they provided a good sized portion (filled a small bowl) for the $7 charge.
