Austin Burger Restaurant P. Terry’s Opens Its First Houston-Area Location | Eater Houston

"An Austin-born, family-owned all-day burger stand opened its first Houston-area location in Richmond on Wednesday, October 16. Located at 9207 FM 723 Road near an H-E-B, the restaurant blends 1950s–60s-inspired retro decor with modern convenience—including a double drive-thru for to-go orders, dine-in seating, and a patio. It serves a classic made-to-order menu of fresh Angus beef burgers (never frozen), hand-spun milkshakes, hand-cut fries, freshly squeezed lemonade, and baked goods such as whole wheat banana bread and oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, with ingredients free from preservatives, hormones, and antibiotics. Founded by Patrick and Kathy Terry in July 2005 and now a 35-location Texas chain, the concept plans at least four more Houston-area openings (including another Richmond site, two in the Spring area, and a 2025 build in Village Green at Bridgeland Central). Current hours are 7 a.m.–midnight Monday–Thursday, 7 a.m.–1 a.m. Friday, 8 a.m.–1 a.m. Saturday, and 8 a.m.–midnight Sunday." - Brittany Britto Garley

The burger was decent, not bad at all. But the fries were terrible—super oily, and it tasted like the oil had been reused way too many times. They had a burnt, bitter flavor that made them hard to eat. Definitely need fresh oil! On the plus side, the atmosphere was good. The place was clean, and the seating was comfortable. Overall, not the worst experience, but the fries really brought it down. Hope they improve!

Google
New trying out P. Terry’s. It was within 2 hours of closing when we went — wasn’t really in the mood for any of the other 7 places still open after 10 in Katy so we gave this place a try. I’d passed it a few times before and honestly, I’m glad we gave it a try. There was a lot tried, basically most of the menu. (UNDER $30!) No desserts or shakes were ordered though. I think the most disappointing was the chicken burger that was lettuce wrapped. The Swiss cheese that comes on it doesn’t pair well. You can sub cheeses so that’ll be a requirement next time for certain. We don’t eat McDonald’s anymore but I’d say this places is definitely better than there, Wendy’s, & In n out. This spot doesn’t leave you feeling like you ate a brick. I can definitely appreciate that but the burger presentation could’ve been a bit better IMO. They have some special sauce there as well. You can get it spicy or not. We got a few, nothing special was detected TBH & they all tasted the same. We tried the lemonades, too. Only the regular was a winner. The strawberry lemonade tasted more like a tart punch than a strawberry lemonade. The parking lot thouughh— Leaves MUCH to be desired. They should it expand it for certain. The space to do so is there. The drive thru entrance is a sliver of a path at the back of the lot.. if you miss pulling into it, you may have to do some backing up if there’s an available space and pull into it that way… if you’re like us — you’ll have to exit the whole parking lot and pull back in to make sure you can angle into the drive thru properly. For it to be late and still a line full of cars, only a tomato was missed in our order — so kudos for that guys. I would recommend. The value is wild for it to be 2025. So thanks P. Terry’s! We’ll be returning.

Google
Amazing service 🙏🏻 and for the setting, it's good value. Food needs work. Skip the veggie burger, unless you like plant-based spam. Years after the meat alternatives are a thing, Burger King's Impossible Burger is still 👑 Peanut butter shake was wayyy too sweet - just because we have Ozempic, it doesn't mean we can drive ourselves to glucose overdose!

Google
It is alright.... I am pretty disappointed tho. There was so much hype about this place and it did not live to its rep. Chicken nuggets are not 100% chicken. Its about 10% chicken and 90% imitation of chicken. Was extremely disappointed after taking a bite. This place is just McDonald's with a make over honestly. I asked for a number 3 with no tomatoes. Needless to say it had tomatoes but no sauce....and they forgot to add lettuces. Overall ace looks cool, not a bad price. For $16 you get a double cheese burger, 8 fake chicken nuggets. Fries, And a drink. Will I come back ir recommend it to anyone? Not a chance this place sucks. I rather go to McDonald's that will 100% mess up my order. Then go here.

Google
I'm giving P. Terry's a perfect 10/10, and it's well-deserved. My go-to is always the Combo #3, and every single time, it hits the spot. The burger is fantastic—the meat is always incredibly juicy and cooked just right. The fries and drink that come with it are the perfect complement. Beyond the delicious food, I'm always impressed by how clean the place is. It's clear they take pride in their restaurant, and it makes the whole experience even better. If you're looking for a great, no-fuss burger joint, P. Terry's is the place. You won't be disappointed!

Google
We stopped by the south Cinco Ranch/north Richmond location this afternoon for a late lunch. We ordered the double cheeseburgers, 8-piece chicken nuggets, fries, and two shakes. It was delicious. It smells like an old fashioned burger stand that your parents or grandparents would have talked about with char-grilled burgers cooking. It brought back childhood memories. The service was fast, and the dining room and restrooms were clean. We’ll definitely be back! The prices were affordable too. Thanks for a great lunch.

Google
Absolutely delicious retro burger joint. Everything super fresh and tasty. Service was fast and prices were fair. It felt like a more real version of In & Out, but the food actually satisfied my hunger. And there’s not a detail overlooked! From the trash cans to the branding on the wrappers, everything here is considerately designed. Love.

Google
Great burger stand, very much like an Austin In N Out. Normal menu with a special being the double cheeseburger with fries. Shakes are great too. Definitely will be back!

Yelp
So happy they're bringing P Terrys to Houston! Burgers are similar to In and Out, have fantastic sauces, and the chicken bites are SOOOO GOOD. Prices are also super affordable similar to in and out. I love how they have an outdoor seating area as well but they need to add at least one trash can outside. However, my only complaint is that the fries were definitely undercooked. They give you a lot yes, but we couldn't even eat a lot of them bc of them being uncooked.

Yelp
This was our first time going to any P. Terry's. Honestly, I'd never even heard of it until I drove past it recently and looked it up. I was intrigued by the building because of the way it looked. I like that it captures that 'old fashioned' vibe. I'm so glad we decided to check it out. Customer service was great. Everyone was friendly and they were prompt with getting orders out. We came right before a big rush. But they were really quick. You can see that everyone was working hard and moving quickly. Even the little older lady wiping trays, tables, and cleaning was moving quickly and was so nice. Prices are very reasonable especially for the solid quality of food and portions. Taste and quality is definitely a lot better than typical fast food places. I've noticed people have compared it to In N Out. But this is better than In N Out imo. And I know people will probably fight me on that. Especially In N Out enthusiasts. But I said what I said LOL. They have some dessert options too that says is made in house. I tried the banana bread and wasn't expecting much from a fast food place but I was actually surprised that it was actually moist and pretty good. It's super clean inside. Very spacious and plenty of indoor seating. Good amount of parking. They also have a drive thru. Overall great spot. I'd be interested in trying their breakfast stuff next time and their shakes. Definitely recommend checking them out.

Yelp
Been wanting to try P. Terry's for a while now. Usually when I pass by the lines are long but this time on a Sunday afternoon it was pretty quiet so we decided to finally give it a try. I wasn't disappointed let me tell you. Just from a first time view of this burger there really isn't anything special to or about it. Seems pretty basic to me, however the flavor of the Angus beef patties is on point. For a basic looking burger the patties are pretty juicy. It was my first time trying these and maybe i didn't order mine right but I don't think they put any ketchup on them because mine was pretty dry, even the mayo seemed like they skimped on it. But that's ok I asked for a side of their special sauce and lathered it on the dryer side of the burger and some Ketchup on the side helped. Overall a pretty good tasting burger not too bad on the price either. The chicken bites were awesome! Crispy and full of flavor, we ordered the spicy special sauce and that was great as well. Finally can't forget about the fries, I really enjoyed their fries something about hand cut fries and how they fry them just enough to keep them slightly soft made these so good. Highly recommend them, service at the time I was there was quick but it did start to pick up.

Yelp
I have always loved P. Terry's since I was in Austin. I had them before I ever heard of In & Out. Their burgers have always been fresh and good to me. I have missed them much when I moved away. So now I'm happy that they are somewhat closer to me than ever before. When I went, the place looked clean, including the bathroom. There were people in line and dining but the wait was not long. I ordered the single cheeseburger and sat outside on their patio watching the sunset. They had nice music going on in the background too. My burger was decent this time. I finished it pretty fast. I'll have to go back and try the double because I was still wanting more.

Yelp
Haven't been to P.Terry's since trying it in Austin over 10+ years ago, I remember being it a solid burger and fries for cheap price...was hoping it would be the same years later....I think it hit the spot again! I'm simple with a burger: plain, cheese, lettuce, grilled onions, special sauce, ketchup - I don't need anymore fixings than...I hate it when you can't taste the burger patty anymore. P.Terry burger is pretty damn good for the value. The milkshakes weren't bad either. Restaurant was clean, wish they had bigger bathrooms. Fast service, Coca Cola products...will be back as they will be expanding to other areas in Houston.

Yelp
I will say I'm impressed . I wasn't sure if it would be good but it is .. burger was fresh . Nice and hot . Service was great. Lemonade is really good . Ambiance is diner vibes so I love it .
google avatar

Kevin C.

Yelp
Very disappointed with my experience. My order was not fulfilled correctly. I asked for a double cheeseburger with grilled onions, but was given only a single cheeseburger. This shows a clear lack of attention to detail. The staff needs better training to ensure customers actually receive what they order.
google avatar

David B.

Yelp
They snuck into Houston without telling us!!! We typically hit P. Terry's every time we are in Austin due to the good burgers, good prices, crispy fries, and friendly service. No major fall off here... The new item of peach tea was nothing special, but the soda machine was bubbly fresh, and had some of the old time greats, plus the throwback labeling. The decor is standard P. Terry, and the place is consistently swept, as we saw them come through several times while we ate. Our favorite part are the crispy fries!! They beat all the competitors in their class, and even rival some steakhouse fries! Additionally, we were in there at 9:00 at night and the restroom was clean!!
google avatar

Robert B.

Yelp
First visit was a pop-in during a soft opening. Expectation was fine. Little bit of a learning curve for the staff. Is what it is. Several weeks later I make an order for pick up and the orders were just all messed up. Missing items. Missing toppings. Included toppings that were requested off. Beverages were root beer floats as opposed to just Root Beers. Then one of the fries wasn't included. Overall just a mess.
google avatar

Danny C.

Yelp
New place. In the mood for a burger. Burgers are meh! Fries on the other hand are actually pretty good! Hard to justify a great rating on fries and while it's not expensive it's hard to justify the price against the taste of the burger. Not coming back. Just sayin. In health and happiness! Cheers
google avatar

Thomas H.

Yelp
It's like the "Austin" version of In-N-Out. I love In-N-Out, but P Terry's blows this place away. I got a burger with bacon and grill onions along with fries and a drink. I paid less than 10 dollars. Burger patty was on the thin side, but overall it was great sandwich. Next time, I'll get a double. The fries were another story. They are fresh cut and SEASONED unlike the popular California burger joint. Needless to say, I'm definitely coming back to this place.
google avatar

Weiz_ 1.

Yelp
Burgers taste pretty good! They are pretty well priced compared to other burgers we r places too!
google avatar

Randa T.

Yelp
We call it "The home of the tiny burger". Theres a reason they dont have kids meals. Dont go there if youre hungry as you'll leave the same way. The strawberry shake was divine though. The fries are real potatoes. Tasted good but probably wont return as I want more than play food.
google avatar

Min L.

Yelp
P. Terry's is up there with In-N-Out in terms of pretty good fast food burger establishments. The fresh-cut fries are legit! The burgers were cooked well. The sauces were delicious. The meal wasn't overly salty. The chicken nuggets taste like Burger King's old school tenders (salt and pepper seasoning). Customer service was excellent. Will definitely continue to support this Austin-based restaurant concept!
google avatar

Alex N.

Yelp
Wow, this place succeeded in my expectations. I've heard about this place when I went to Austin years ago so I'm glad I got to try today. The fries were so amazing, I love the texture and flavor. The burger was amazing, highly recommend the double deluxe burger. Great flavor, you get the smokiness and that perfect amount of salt and pepper With their subtle kick from their sauce. Great veggie to meat and cheese ratio. Highly recommend it would come back. My only complaint was the parking.
google avatar

Melissa G.

Yelp
Cheap food that the kids like but it's definitely not for everyone. The burgers are underwhelming. Not much in the way of seasoning. The bed thing here I think was the milkshake. I have ordered the chicken sandwich and was expecting an actual piece of chicken but it was just a ground chicken patty. The chicken nuggets are the same meat and does not taste good. It's very processed. It's a very cheap meal though so if that's what you're looking for this is great for that. I will say even though I don't like it my kids love it. So there's that.
google avatar

Madyson C.

Yelp
As a Southern California resident, everyone was telling us to try P Terry's as it has similar flavors to In n Out. I can definitely say, it'll give In n Out a run for its money! Priced were cheaper and the flavors were pretty spot on. They use. Very similar house sauce and cook their patties thin and charred. The staff is friendly and welcoming. If you're an In n Out lover like we are, definitely give this place a try as it's a Texas staple to many.

Bianca E.

Yelp
5 stars for woman in the drive thru who delivered amazing service. First she saw my dog and offered a treat for him which was so sweet. She was out in the blazing heat for who knows long but kept a smile on her face while serving us. She's the best! Wish we could of gotten her name, but she deserves a raise
google avatar

Gina R.

Yelp
Good and affordable food. I really liked the grilled chicken sandwich and my husband had a bacon cheeseburger
google avatar

Danny A.

Yelp
Such great find. Food is really, really good. And I can't believe how cheap everything is. Definitely recommend this spot.
google avatar

David T.

Yelp
So, I really do have to ask. So much hate for California, don't California my Texas. But why are Texans eating at an in-n-out knock off when you can just submit to the Californiacation and eat at your favorite burger place? There's one not too far from this location. This place is such a knock off that even the fries are terrible. Might as well add animal style fries and burgers It's funny because on the website p.terry tries to make it look older with black and white photos and vintage stuff but it's just to hide they started in 2005. Modeled after burger joints from the 50-60s. You know INO started in 1948? Ya. Enjoy your INO Texas. Stop ordering temu!
google avatar

Carla B.

Yelp
I'm so happy to finally see P Terry's here in town on the west side. Yay now we can add it to our other burger chains. You must go and try this no more driving to Austin.
google avatar

Thomas S.

Yelp
My wife and I were introduced to P Terry when our two daughters were attending college in Austin. It had been six years since we took a bite of a P Terry burger and fries. So when a T Perry opened in our neighborhood, my wife got us dinner to go. We went with the standard cheeseburger and fries. The burger was smaller than the typical Whataburger or Burger King, but it tasted just as good. The fries were awesome, better than any fast food buger shacks. Prices were definitely affordable. The employees were friendly and efficient even though it was still in soft opening mode. Next up will be the P Terry Mike shake.
google avatar

Dee W.

Yelp
Look these negative reviews speak volumes about the people posting them. First off, if you can eat a 3 patty burger in 4 bites...you have a problem! These burgers are portioned right for the price and VERY flavorful. If you like Freddy's seasoned patties then you will like this one too. I'm a cheese girl so I LOVE the amount on the burger and the special sauce. The milk shakes are awesome! I didn't get fries because I just can't eat that much, but the kids liked them. Then someone had the nerve to comment about the restroom and being woke! I can't take these super offended people. Most restaurants are starting to lean towards non-gender restrooms for accessibility you sick perverted minds! The women's restroom tends to have a long line. It's not like they go in the restroom together. They stand outside like anyone else does and the men and women's restrooms have always been next to each other...what is the difference??? Some people have to make an issue out of everything because they are just miserable human beings. With that said...P Terry's is great! My double patty with bacon and special sauce was melt in your mouth good! But don't listen to these whiny babies...go try and see. Freddy's competition!

Reema B.

Yelp
Lanae was super sweet, I will be back just because her service was so great!!! Food was good as well

Mahad K.

Yelp
The staff were nice, it was clean, the nuggets are amazing and the fries and burger was good. My family didn't like it but I really did. Definitely recommend this.
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
Great value for good food. Fries are exceptionally good. Restaurant is clean and drink offerings are best quality.
google avatar

Edward W.

Yelp
Read the review online, I guess We have higher expectations for our burger joints in Houston. Came here on a Tuesday night, should have gone to Whataburger. Had a number 3 double meat with jalapeños, fries and a chocolate shake. The shake was good. The burger was very small, very thin patties, if you put them together your have a normal burger Pattie, the jalapeños were in some kind of relish, one piece of lettuce and one slice of tomato....and cheese....all you tasted was cheese and their special sauce, not a fan, and the burger was so small four bites and it was gone. The fries were soggy soaked in grease and gross. Don't waste your time or money go to Whataburger or better yet JBL aka Joy Love Burger.
google avatar

Tina H.

Yelp
Burger was made to order. Fries were good, not soggy. We took it to go. The place is cool. Has a nostalgic vibe. I'd definitely go back.
google avatar

Tanya B.

Yelp
I decided to try this place out the wait was not long. I ordered a double hamburger with everything what I got was a plain burger

Jennifer M.

Yelp
What is not to like? The food is clean, affordable, local and amazing. The second time we ate from here was for the fundraiser which was a beautiful show of unity. Everyone was nice and it was a pleasant experience. My daughter who barely likes meat craves these burgers. Again these are clean ingredient foods as are filling and tasty for the prices. Highly recommend. We want to have the done in experience to see how the fries are fresh. I like a good soggy fry but would like to see what they are like fresh and not brought home. Extremely satisfying.
google avatar

Chandolyn W.

Yelp
Food was good, hot and fresh! It has old school diner vibes. Service was pretty quick considering the amount of customers they were serving.

David P.

Yelp
Best burger in town for the price and flavor! Added jalapeños this time very tasty! I'm making this a weekly lunch spot!
google avatar

Greg S.

Yelp
My opinion It tastes like a basic frozen patty burger. Not much flavor and on the small side, even for a double meat & cheese. The fries were good, just a bit too much oil and salt. To top it off, I tried the chocolate shake and banana bread. The chocolate shake wasn't a stand out, but better than many other places in the area. As for the banana bread, it also lacked that bold flavor I was hoping for, just boring. This review is only reflective of my personal opinion and I would recommend that you try it for yourself. We all have different likes and unfortunately I can't say this one made my list to visit again, but maybe it will for you.

Carlos M H.

Yelp
Tasty, great flavour, clean and fast service . The seating area is very nice and clean.

Robert L.

Yelp
P Terry's is pretty much the same as "In-n-Out" or "Freddy's". Burgers are interchangeable, needs more meat for the price, The food was good, not great, they have all their own spin on the fries. Surprisingly it was staffed well and all personnel were very friendly and helpful. It's a burger joint. Cleanliness was good on initial appearance, but after further looking, the benches they chose leave lots of room for extra food to be left behind(see pic). Price was fair to good for the food you receive. I had the combo cheese burger, fries and a small drink. $8.50 after tax. $3.55 -
google avatar

M B.

Yelp
The food was very flavorful and seasoned well. The service was great and food came out surprisingly fast considering how busy they were. Only negative is that the parking lot is kinda small, I saw people parking at the HEB next door and walking over.

Steve D.

Yelp
I am 74 years old and have gotten P. Terry's hamburgers 3 times now. They have proven to me 3 times that they have the most tasteless burgers I have ever had. Won't be going back a 4th time.
google avatar

Chris T.

Yelp
Foods good. An Austin staple now here in Houston. Pricing is pretty good at $3/burger. They take the in-n-out approach of a simple menu and "fresh" ingredients. Service definitely is terrible. Went through the drive through on a weekend night near 11 pm and everyone in the drive thru line seemed annoyed from the person taking my order to the person taking my payment and handing over food. If they trained their staff on customer service this would be a five star review.

Jacob M.

Yelp
Great service good food and very clean the employees are respectful and helpful. And I will definitely be back

Juan A.

Yelp
We were greeted as we arrived, ordered and got food with short wait time. The eating area was clean & the atmosphere felt relaxing. They also have a good tasting cookie to top off the meal.
google avatar

Ling Ling T.

Yelp
Food is okay. The prices are on point. But, oh my goodness.... The food sure comes with a lot of bad attitudes! Manager needs to retrain staff. No one likes to see their burger waiting and getting cold while waiting for fries, shakes and cookies! And no one likes attitude when we asked the staff to complete our order! They literally threw my cookies in front of my face, rolled their eyes and walked away! Why call my number when you are not ready then?!?!
google avatar

Paul M.

Yelp
Let me start by saying it's very cheap as in pricing wise. The fries are really good. The burger is fresh, but it's pretty small to be honest but for the price it's a decent meal.
google avatar

Wil R.

Yelp
This is a cute little place for a milkshake but the burgers are just ok. The buns are really plain and they do not have alot of variety on the menu. The service was great and everyone who worked seemed to work well as a team. Just so know...the french fries have potato skin on them.
google avatar

David C.

Yelp
Easy drive thru and quick, been there a few times and not had a bad experience. Double cheeseburger is what I get and it's a great value.
google avatar

Brittany H.

Yelp
We t hought the burgers were good. Sonehow, one person at our table got a cold burger but the rest were tasty. The fries & shakes were delicious!
google avatar

DeShawn D.

Yelp
If you're craving a burger that hits all the right notes--hot, fresh, and absolutely delicious--P. Terry's is a must-visit. Trust me, your taste buds will thank you. The burgers are, in a word, outstanding. Each one is made to order, ensuring that it's served hot, fresh, and perfectly tailored to your taste. The beef patties are juicy and flavorful, with a delicious sear that gives them a slightly crispy edge.
google avatar

Annie L.

Yelp
What a disappointment of an Austin staple ! Staff needs proper training and a bit more class ( not with a K). I drove 30 minutes to try my absolute favorite, grilled chicken burger and the buns were cold and the chicken seems like it was microwaved and not grilled. Shakes were so sweet. Needless to say, I would rather drive 3 hours for my P Terry's craving.

Aly G.

Yelp
The inside is a little small but we were able to order and sit immediately. The menu is very small and straight to the point . But It took about 5 mins to receive our food which is amazing considering there was a crowd! The burger was so delicious and juicy and the special sauce topped it off so well! The staff is so friendly! We also decided to add a strawberry milk shake as well! It was smooth and delightful! Will definitely be coming back !
