Eater Boston’s Favorite Boston Foods, Updated Weekly - Eater Boston

"The venue offers a variety of Thai dishes including the standout drunken noodles with crispy chicken. The papaya salad is noted for its spicy, funky, and sweet flavor profile. The crispy chicken is soaked in sweet and sour sauce, and the noodles are complemented by spicy green and red chile peppers." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal

BFF’s Christine and Ella had a really fun time with a great meal, with good vegetarian and protein options for a much needed break from cramming for finals. Order at the counter and food cooked to order in under 7 minutes. Seems very popular for both dine-in and take out. Right in the heart of Berkeley College of Music and easy walk full of window shopping options across the Harvard Bridge from MIT. Will eat here again.

Google
Flavor on point, prices are good, and portions are filling The mango was perfectly sweet and ripe - I would lick up that plate. And the crispy chicken was coated in this savory/spicy chili oil with the kind of heat heat that made me feel alive It’s a self-service order at the counter type of place so make sure to clean up after yourself!

Simple setting, great food. Service is order at the counter, choose a drink and pay. Reasonable prices. Friendly service. I had crispy basil pork which came served over rice. It was slightly spicy and overall delicious. The Bell peppers were cooked perfectly, still crisp yet cooked through. Freshly prepared. My partner had crispy pork and Chinese broccoli, which he also liked very much. So far my favorite meal in Boston. We found the shop very clean, the food freshly prepared, and the service was friendly. Bus your own table.

There is good taste with many choices of Thai food. The Kha Pho rice with fried egg was very good. Yum Mama is also nice and reminded me of home.

I live in a tiny rural mountain town on the west side of Colorado. I always ordered the Crispy Chicken Basil dish during my grad school days in Boston from 2011-2015. It’s been nearly 10 years since I last had this dish but think about it frequently. I got it again today and I am so glad that 1. This establishment is still open, and 2. It looks and tastes exactly as good as I remember it a decade ago. May this restaurant’s pillow always stay cool!

I stopped in with my family before a Red Sox game. An easy 10 min walk to Fenway. We ordered a few different dishes, all mild because my kids can't handle an ounce of spice! The food came when they said it would and was so flavourful and delicious. AND not an ounce of spice. It was devoured by my kids. Also, we are gluten free and that was NOT an issue for Pad Thai Cafe. Here we are a day later, feeling great, always a good sign for gluten-free people. It is "serve yourself" and it is "clean yourself" but they don't hide that fact. There were actually more people dining-in then I thought there would be but we grabbed a table with no trouble. Top it off with friendly and happy staff, we will definitely go there again. Especially when we head to an event at Fenway(9 min walk) or an afternoon at the MFA(15 min walk). There are so many more dishes for us to try!

The register is right as you walk in on the right, and the kitchen behind them. The space looks more spacious inside. N3 Pad See You $13.20, Beef ($1.25): A bummer. The noodles were not flavorful, the beef was the same. It was like I got food coloring and soy sauce. I mean it was still good, it is rice noodles and beef, but not the flavor bomb I was hoping for when I usually have this. It was also greasy, which I could overlook if it tasted better. Some of the greens were also a bit bitter. Verdict: OKAY. C2 Green Curry (R) $11.95, Chicken: This was so yummy and flavorful! However there was way more rice than meat and veggies. The chicken curry was poured over the rice and put out too early because the rice soaked up all the sauce and left the veggies and meat practically dry- though the meat was not dried out. Verdict: RECOMMEND. EAT THIS. Weird review to write because one this was very good, and the other just okay. I would still go, but maybe ask for the curry in another container? Verdict: OKAY. TRY THE CURRY.

Google
“Thai boat noodles” is my favorite dish. This place delivers a great flavorful, bold and spicy dish that I haven’t had for a long time. I’ve tried a lot of Thai places, but this one is the best. Love how huge the bowls/plates are! We ordered Pad Thai, Thai boat noodles, Thai tea and smoothie green tea. I love it!

Yelp
I am so glad to have tried out PadThai Cafe. I miss eating at no frills restaurants and this place definitely hits the spot. Food was delicious. Pad thai was sweet and flavorful and the avocado smoothie was creamy and lightly sweet. I thought the soup was okay in terms of flavor, but it was very warm and made sense on a cold day. This is a self service restaurant, but the cashier is friendly. The best part is the prices are super reasonable for Boston. I will be sure to come back here whenever I am craving yummy thai food.

Yelp
I have ordered PadThai Cafe on Ubereats a few times recently when craving pad thai and it has become one of my new favorite Thai places! Sadly, I forgot to take photos, but I have ordered the country style pad thai, and the tom yum noodle soup and both are amazing. The country style pad thai is regular pad thai with chicken tofu and shrimp, and also has some spicy peppers and extra onions. The flavors are there and it's not super mushy like some pad thais are. The tom yum noodle soup with chicken and shrimp is so good but I just wish it had regular chicken instead of ground chicken. Otherwise, the broth is great and incredibly flavorful like a tom yum broth should be. I am hoping to try some new foods from pad thai cafe since they have a huge variety of thai foods!

Yelp
I had the red curry and pad kee mao (both with tofu) from a catered event and the food was super flavorful. NOTE- the curries are not vegan/vegetarian because they contain fish sauce. The noodles are also not vegan by default, but you can ask them to omit the fish sauce and egg to make them vegan.

Yelp
Tldr; Their country pad thai is the best pad thai of my life. This place is quite authentic! A good deal of their menu is in Thai. I ordered the *country style* pad Thai after staring at some photos on Yelp. Take my word -- this was the tastiest, best pad Thai I've ever eaten in my life so far. I finished my plate in 10 min while it was piping hot. The photo speaks for itself. Look at that color. Let's start with the lime -- it was super fresh and juicy. The plate came piping right off the wok with all that wok hei. The rice noodle texture -- thin, chewy, and each noodle enveloped in sweet, savory umami that was also the right amount of spicy (very hot). All ingredients extremely fresh and perfectly cooked. Shrimp was succulent and perfectly cooked, a long with the chicken breast. Came with fried tofu bits too. Drooling right now as I write this. Boston is so blessed with amazing Thai food. :''') When I'm back here in a few days, I'll be leaving with two orders, because I only paid $14 for this masterpiece.
google avatar

Nick C.

Yelp
Like this place a lot always come here but the past few times has been disappointing with not the flavor but the description saying shrimp is one of the main items in the dish and it came with only 1 shrimp...that's misleading for a shrimp noodle dish.

Yelp
This was my go-to spot for pad Thai for quite a while. The inside is very colorful, and it is self-service: you order at the front and grab/clean up after yourself. The pad Thai is what I recommend, of course. Their other dishes are just okay.

Erin R.

Yelp
We ordered a delicious meal through UberEats to be delivered to us while our child was admitted overnight at Boston Children's hospital. It was a quick delivery and piping hot on arrival. After a stressful day, their Pad Thai was just what the doctor ordered!!! Delectable, huge portions, special instructions were followed to a tee. 1000% recommend!

Yelp
I went here with a friend before attending a concert at Fenway. There isn't a ton of seating, I am guessing most of their business is takeout. The food was good, I would say average for Thai - not the best, not the worst. The menu had a good selection, likely anything you are looking for. Counter service was fine. Just fine. Everything was fine lol. So overall - decent but didn't knock my socks off like the concert afterwards did.

Sam O.

Yelp
Food: 9.3/10 Packing: 9.5/10 Quantity: 8.5/10 Bang for Buck: 9.3/10 I am SHOCKED that this place doesn't have better ratings. This was one of the BEST pad see ew and Penang curry I've had in my life. The quantity of noodles was slightly below my expectations, but the quantity of the curry more than made up for it. Reasonably priced - must give this a try. I used DoorDash to order.

Yelp
One of my go to Thai restaurants in Boston. Their dishes are delicious and at a great price. Whether you want a quick meal or authentic Thai food, they have it! They offer two menus -- an English and Thai menu. If you're looking to order more authentic Thai, it would be off the Thai menu. Be warned however, their Thai menu is not in English so either have a translator ready or prepare what you'd like in advance. It's a really casual place perfect for a quick meal with friends and also great for take out. You'll walk away with a full stomach and a happy wallet. A few things to note: The pad thai tends to be a bit sweet and their Thai menu dishes are SPICY. So keep that in mind while ordering!
google avatar

Allie S.

Yelp
I ordered delivery so can't comment on dine-in. I had the duck pad thai which I would say was pretty average. At least you get a large serving for the price. I would have preferred if I had more duck meat since it was mostly soggy duck skin. Overall, it satisfies a pad thai craving but there are better options in Boston.
google avatar

Noelle M.

Yelp
Ordered delivery so I can't speak to anything besides the food that I received--which was tasty. I got the pork pad Thai (basic, I know), a Thai iced coffee, and the mango sticky rice. I actually really liked everything. The portions were large. The ratios in each dish were nice. The drink was great. I liked how they paid close attention to packing the mango sticky rice in a way where it wouldn't get soggy. I'd recommend for delivery/take out for sure. I got into town late and saw this place on an Eater list, so I'm glad it worked out.

Yelp
Best Thai food in Boston and I'm Thai. Try boat noodle soup if you don't know what to order.

Yelp
*Take out review only* This unassuming restaurant has a modest entrance but has one of the most extensive menus I've seen. My interest was piqued because it's literally PACKED with people all the time. My comfort zone is usually pad kee mao, curries, and various Thai fried rices. I got the pad kee mao and the crispy pork with basil. The crispy pork dish didn't have much pork but the flavor was amazing! The fried basil was super fragrant. The pad kee mao was a touch sweeter than others I've had but still delicious. I felt the portion was pretty fair. Both dishes are definitely spicy bc of the whole jalapeño (seeds and all) chopped into each dish. I'm intrigued by the "authentic Thai menu" section and trying it next time.

Yelp
Food was very good!! Flavorful and homey. You mostly self serve but the atmosphere is very nice.

Yelp
I have been here over a dozen times in the past 6 months to both take out and eat in! This little hole in the wall place has the best crispy chicken pad Thai in Boston! For $15, you cannot beat that. The service is great and they make it so fast. It really reminds me of a little mom and pop shop. It isn't really a sit down nice restaurant, but that's the way i like it. It's nice and casual. I cannot recommend this place enough!

Yelp
Generally great food. A little inconsistent as of late (summer, 2023). Some of the menu items lacked in flavor, but at least the pad see ew is always good.

Natalie D.

Yelp
Affordable, delicious thai food, highly recommend to anyone wanting takeout in the area!

Yelp
Order just simply spring rolls (x2). Waited only to receive my two orders luke warm and cold. Guess it's because I should have been picking up an order as Uber or doordash delivery guy.Except I'm wearing scrubs, and I've been here before. I often place orders through Yelp because this area tends to act real racist and prejudice. I shouldn't have to heat up something that cost 15$ with tax. I'm willing to bet that not all customers have to sign a receipt. Anyway, guess I will be advising others whom they feel shouldn't e their business/customer to stay away. Mind you I live up the strest and walk by this place everyday for over two years. Really tells you about people , especially if you have been in the business before.

Yelp
I would give it a 4.5/5, but I am rounding up. I just started coming here and I already love it. It's pretty simple/low-key, but that has an awesome variety of dishes/menu and everything tastes really fresh. Anyone who knows my reviews knows that I love Thai, and that I especially love pad see ew. Theirs is really good, but sometimes inconsistent. I have had once or twice where the noodles were a little overcooked, but it was fine-- ultimately still tasty, and not soo overcooked where it's icky. I love the pad krapow gai too. I have heard good things about the curries and noodles from the people eating with me, but I haven't tried them personally. The inside is generally pretty basic-- more like a fast-food spot than a restaurant. You seat yourself and pick up the food when it is ready. No tableside service. It's probably not that best atmosphere for a romantic date or anything, but its a good place to catch up with friends. The service is good-- the person you takes your order is very attentive and patient, and food comes pretty quick-- usually no more than a few minutes unless its swamped. Pretty nice overall. It has a good amount of Berklee students and so be prepared to step over plenty of instruments!

Yelp
The mango bubble tea has a really nostalgic taste of bubble tea from many years ago. Give the bubble teas a try if you've never had it, but don't expect it to be better than most boba places. Highly recommend the Indonesian fried rice, which is surprisingly authentic and a lesser known variant of fried rice that everyone needs to try. All of their dishes were quite good though. Overall it is affordable and tasty! Restaurant is currently only doing take-out and not easy to spot, so be sure to turn on your navigation.

Yelp
Minimal ambiance but offers some of the best Thai food in Boston. Very moderately priced. Large menu caters to Asian students.

Yelp
I wasn't blown away by the place, but my dish was good. The boat Noodle soup was spicy, delicious, and huge. It's not the best or the worst verison. It's worth a try. Not sure, about the pricing, I didn't pay.

Yelp
Doesn't look like much when you walk by and even when you walk in, but I am really glad I came here with some friends! They have a menu written in Thai. We had our native Thai friend order and I ended up trying a ton of things that I've never even heard of before! 1. Olive fried rice with minced pork - so delicious and savory 2. Sautéed bamboo pork - also very flavorful. This dish was a bit oily but in a good way 3. Boat noodle soup w pork blood and pork balls (?) - yum, with a tangy soup 4. Kang som Cha-om tod with shrimp. It's basically a veggie omelette pan fried and then put into a tangy (tamarind?) soup. Came with boiled shrimp. Delicious. Will definitely order this again. A plate of rice cost extra. There is free cold water, and also some canned drinks available (like tamarind, grass jelly, coconut, etc) and Thai iced tea. There's a bathroom (private room) available for customers. The waitstaff were very kind and didn't push us out even though we stayed and hung out for a while. $60 for all these dishes together.

Yelp
I first went here after my NYC trip with my GF. She is Thai and she introduced me to this Thai restaurant. "This is the best Thai restaurant" is what she said. They have 2 menus. 1 for Thai and 1 for English. IMO, their best dish is Yum Mama & Kow Nah Ped. It was so delicious I had to come back! Idk why anybody would go any lower than 4 star review. The food came out quickly. The only thing is it's hard to find parking. I highly recommend this place if you like Thai food.

Yelp
I used to love this restaurant when it was located on Boylston Street, about 25 feet from where it is now. For old time's sake, I decided to give it a try with my family, who used to frequent the old place weekly. According to the cashier, it was the same owners, though all the staff were completely different. My go-to dishes in the old location were the pad see ew, pad thai, and satay salad. The good news is that all of them were pretty much the same, and the whole family was pleased. It's still the same hole-in-the-wall, only smaller, and now with a modern digital board menu. I'll be back to try the other menu items just to be sure, but if they are the same, then this will remain my favorite local Thai spot. Simple, delish, and always satisfying.

Jodel D.

Yelp
I used to buy food here before, but the last two times that I had been here, the service has been really bad. Today, 10/01/2022, I walked in to place an order and the employees just stood there and stared at me, didnt say a word and no one came and took my order. I took a menu, sat down, and watched as emplpyees walked around and just completely ignored me, so I left and took my money somewhere else. It seems like they are selective with who they want to serve whether you are a paying customer or not. Disgusting.
google avatar

Michelle C.

Yelp
I used to go to their old location on Boylston often, and when they closed I mourned the loss of a great Thai spot. However, this new location is just as good albeit a bit smaller. It's still okay to dine-in but I'd recommend take-out. My favorite thing to order is the Star Curry ($8.65), a red-curry with tons of veggies including bean sprouts, string beans, snow peas, carrots, peppers and basil leaves. The Panang Curry ($8.65) is a close second, with the addition of green peas and peppers instead of bean sprouts and string beans. The spice level is just right and the portions are generous, especially given the student budget pricing. Wash it all down with a can of pennywort juice ($2) to cool the tongue and tummy.

Yelp
When I worked by pad Thai cafe it was my favorite lunch spot. After leaving Boston for California for 10 years and returning , it's the best tasting Thai in Boston and Northern California. My go tos are pad Thai / chicken and pad see ewe with beef. So glad it's kept so sister after all these years! Thank you!
google avatar

Shatara C.

Yelp
This place is a tiny hole in the wall and I would have never expected the food to be so delicious. There are so many other pad Thai restaurants in this neighborhood but I would definitely come here again. I ordered the shrimp pad Thai and spring rolls, the shrimp pad Thai was cooked perfectly and there was just the right amount of peanuts. The spring rolls were nice and crispy and super hot. I also ordered the chicken wings and those had a crunchy sweet texture. The service was prompt and the woman taking our orders was accommodating and very pleasant. She also answered any questions we had without hesitation, which is a joy at smaller restaurants. It's very small so a large party wouldn't be able to sit in and eat.

A K.

Yelp
Thai food is my favorite. My pad thai was as sweet as candy. It felt like a desert and savory treat all in one. Will not return unfortunately... they were efficient and quick. Just terrible food unfortunately ...

Yelp
I originally thought this place closed down since they used to be located on Boylston but when I was out taking a walk, noticed that they had just moved around the corner to a smaller location. This used to be my go to place for mango fried rice with crispy chicken so I was SO glad they're still around. I went for Saturday lunch and it was quite empty inside aside from a few Berklee students. Instead of my usual order, I tried the Ba Mee Song Kruang this time as I've recently discovered this Thai dish. I ordered and paid for the meal upfront at the counter, then found a seat by the window and waited for my number to be called. The food was ready relatively quickly and was excited to see it came in a HUGE bowl. There was a mountain of noodles covered in all kinds of goodies from minced pork, barbecued pork, an assortment of fish balls, crispy pork, peanuts, bean sprouts, cilantro, scallions, etc. What I failed to notice was that they added a spoonful of red pepper and didn't realize how much spiciness they added before I went ahead and added even more spicy sauce on it. The dish was delicious and extra spicy! The flavors of each component were great and works so well together. I love all of the different textures of this dish as well and the fact that no two bites tastes the same. Two areas of critique: when eating the noodles, I found a hard chunk of noodles clumped together as if they cooked the noodles previously, and then left it sitting out for a little bit, and then reheated it. It didn't taste good and was weirdly gummy. I also noticed that the tables inside aren't super clean so I did make sure to wipe down my area before getting comfortable. Aside from the noodle clump, I did enjoy the meal and would still consider going back.

Jared H.

Yelp
The food in soooo good! I would literally eat there everyday. The people that work there are extremely nice and provide really good service. Highly recommend!

Yelp
This is my favorite Thai restaurant in Boston! This restaurant has the best and authentic Thai food with a reasonable price and generous portion! It is also super authentic and actually owned by Thai people! The set up of this restaurant is you go in and order your food at the cash register. You find your table and wait for your food to be called! You can pick up your own utensils on the side. This is how they keep everything at a reasonable price. This minimizes the workers and service! Everything on the menu is delicious. I have tried the papaya salad, tom yum soup, tom yum noodle soup, basil fried rice, pad see ew and pad thai. These are all my fav! You can't go wrong with ordering anything on the menu! You can also order online through the Yelp app so it is super convenient for dine in or take out!

Yelp
I came back here today after few years and I am quite disappointed. PadThai cafe was used to be my Authentic Thai restaurant when I went to college in Boston. It is not the same, I hope the same owners are same . I ordered Pad See Ew and Tomyum soup. The noodles is sour and the soup is way too salty with 2 pieces of shrimps I will come back to try other plates later
google avatar

Floating H.

Yelp
Spent $40 on food last night for me and a friend. Got all the way back home to realize they forgot the rice for my massaman curry. So I basically ate soup. Double check your order before you leave if you're doing carry out.

Daniel W.

Yelp
Order was cancelled immediately after placing it due to a mixup. Was charged 34 dollars from the restaurant even though order was not processed
google avatar

Bea T.

Yelp
This Cafe is in a new location not too far from the the Boylston Street location. This Cafe is definitely smaller than the original one. The food seems to be the same but I did order the chicken satay which did not have any marination. What a disappointment. It came with a side of peanut sauce which was good. The Phad see you and the panang curry were delicious. I will continue to try it some other dishes and hopefully none of the other Thai Dishes are drastically changed.

Yelp
This place has LEGIT Thai food at great prices. I always go for the pad thai (obviously) and it's absolutely delicious. Great portions too, fast, nice service. Small-ish, very casual (dare I say hole in the wall?) establishment.
google avatar

Alicia K.

Yelp
Fast, no-fuss option for Thai fixes that will always come in handy. This is not a place where you're expecting to be greeted by a maitre'd, being escorted to your seat and have waiters fill up your glass with water whenever it's down by a few sips. Pad Thai Cafe delivers great Thai options, in abundant portions, great flavor and value. Go for their famous Ba Mee Song Krang for a taste of one of South East Asia's beloved street food - it's a bowl of dry cooked noodles with lots of yummy goodness (chicken, pork, meatballs, and sweet/salty sauce) that will leave you craving for more.

Yelp
Very nice restaurant me and my husband 100%thai The food here's is very very delicious we don't go back to Thailand about 6year yes we miss Thailand. I order everything here's you feeling sit down and eat in Thailand I very recommend here if you want to try very real Thai food

Yelp
I went here for dinner today with a couple friends. This cafe sells all sorts of Thai dishes and seems to be a popular destination for local students. I got the Indonesian Fried Rice, which was a very large amount of decent quality food for a relatively low price. The crispy chicken was very good, though the fried rice was a little on the greasy side. I also got a Thai Iced Tea; it was a bit on the sweeter side, but I could still taste the tea, so I thought it was pretty good. Note: As it is a cafe you need to claim a table for yourself. Seating can be a little cramped as the place is a bit small, especially during dinner rush. I managed to get seating for 3 people fairly easily during Friday dinner though, so it probably isn't usually an issue.
google avatar

Jason V.

Yelp
Another gem in this area jam packed with them. Food was delicious, see the pics. Chicken Satay not shown was hearty and while we were there, place was packed and had non stop pick up orders. Service with a smile and clean bathroom. A good alternative to Pho Basil should that be your first choice and it's too packed. I compare everything to Pho B cuz to me they're the best; but Pad Thai cafe might argue otherwise, and I wouldn't argue that point either. Pad Thai seems to be more "Thai" if you want that authentic taste and don't care about serving size as much (they serve enough, but not like Pho B, so no leftovers here unless you order an extra dish) Good spot to save a few dollars as it's self seating and you put the utensils and plates in a tray when you're done (although still nice to tip a few bucks in the tip jar as courtesy, but you certainly don't have to if you're on a tight budget) I cannot wait to go back!

Yelp
Went there for dinner for the first time padthai was too greasy Crab Rangoon not too bad

Yelp
Got the spicy bamboo with tofu and it was delicious! My friends said their orders were great as well! :)

Yelp
This place is the best for take out!! The food is prepared so quickly and it's one of the most authentic Thai places i've been to in Boston! (I lived in Thailand for a while) It's also so reasonably priced with great portions! I totally recommend this!

Yelp
No matter how many times I repeat a modification on my order in person, they'll get it wrong, so I'm done with this place. Tonight there I went in person and I ordered something but I said "only vegetables no tofu" about 3 times. Of course it came with tofu and I said something and she didn't even understand, and just said, "Yes, tofu with vegetables." I tried to explain it to her again and she just repeated herself. I said it again. She said something to the kitchen team where it was headed back and I proceeded to watch one of the cooks pick out my tofu with his fingers, not replace it with any additional veggies, put the lid back on, and hand it back to the cashier to give to me. Um, no. Asked for a refund for that and the app I ordered. Then it became this huge saga and the entire kitchen was probably talking smack about me cause they all were looking at me and talking. Rude af. Done with this nonsense. The prices used to be priced as a "value" and lower than competition (because it's not nearly as nice a place) but now it's the same price as Thaitation and nice places, except it's not nice at all

Yelp
Food was pretty yummy and definitely spicy enough =] ordered the beef basil fried rice- costs extra. I didn't know the beef was grounded too- would have been better if it was sliced instead.

Yelp
Pad Thai cafe is so much better than Rod Dee in my opinion. The panang curry is really great, the fried rice is good, the pad thai looks good but I've never had it. The thai noodle soup isn't great, but everything else I've ever had there is really good. They make the food quickly, but it always is fresh. I like things fairly spicy and I do medium here--if you're afraid of a little heat, definitely stick to mild! This is a fast favorite of mine, and I am a regular already :)
