I recently hosted my fiancé’s surprise 30th birthday at Paddy Whacks, and it was absolutely perfect! From start to finish, the experience was seamless, thanks to their incredible event manager, Lorilee. She was beyond amazing—so friendly, helpful, and accommodating, making sure every detail was taken care of effortlessly. The venue itself had a great atmosphere, the staff was attentive, and the open bar was a huge hit with our guests. Also, received so much positive feedback on the chicken tenders (seriously, best tenders in the city!) If you're looking for a fantastic place to host an event, I HIGHLY recommend Paddy Whacks. Thank you, Lorilee and the team, for making this celebration so special!

Google
Chill pub atmosphere. Decent food. We had the southern fried chicken sandwich. Both the chicken and chips were over seasoned.

Google
The chicken melt was fabulous, upgraded to the fries which were good, too. Nice with the crab seasoning. The SO got fish and chips and enjoyed it as well. They had a nice list of cocktails. I just went with a canned vodka soda because I'm still on a hard seltzer/soda kick. It was very chill of a vibe in the afternoon, would recommend.

Google
Nachos with cheese, Jalepeio, and tomato were fresh and tasty. We will definitely be back!

Google
Stopped by Wednesday afternoon for a some burgers to go and saw the all day $6 Bud special that was advertised on the sign posted outside so decided to order a pitcher and sit outside. Tables are well spaced. Service was friendly and our burgers and fries were tasty. When it came time to order some more drinks and questioned about other drinks listed on the posted specials, it was then that our server informed us that the those specials no longer applied. Needless to say we felt a bit deceived. Burgers were good and service was decent but take down that sign or at least update it with current prices. Pro tip: order the burgers to go and and buy a case at the distributor down the street if you're looking to take you burgers to go.

Google
A few people had recommended this place but honestly I didn't really see it. It seemed like a very normal Irish bar with similar beers and prices. I think the menu hard oil on it that got all over which was pretty annoying but I am sure that doesn't happen all the time so I'm not not going to hold it againt them too much. The beer came in glasses but the samples were in little plastic cups.

Google
A solid, Irish-themed sports bar perfect to catch a game and some decent pub-grub and drinks if you're in the headhouse square area. Staff is always friendly and accomodating and the crowd, well maybe not for Eagles games or on St. Patty's Day, is welcoming and the atmosphere not too crazy for being near one of the city's party zones. Definitely try some of their specialty/homemade food when it's on the menu

(During COVID) I was briefly visiting and was walking through South St., I noticed many of the eateries were either closed or only offering takeout, but Paddy Whacks offered outdoor seating on the street with shade which I appreciate so I decided to have lunch there. The service was friendly and attentive, I ordered the Mushroom Swiss Burger and cleared my plate. It was perfect.

Yelp
The food was decent bar food and the beer was cold. I don't know what people expect, this isn't a fine dining experience. The bartender was very nice and attentive. Just the right amount of attention but not bugging you. If I could give 3.5 stars I would.
google avatar

Yelp
Mediocre food and service. And they screw you on the happy hour drink prices. Not recommending this stinky sticky pub.
google avatar

Yelp
For all the people leaving bad reviews on this place - it's an Irish pub you nit wits. If you were looking to take your girl for fine dining and excellent service, take her to a fine dining restaurant ya cheap basted.

I just went with a canned vodka soda because I'm still on a hard seltzer/soda kick. It was very chill of a vibe in the afternoon, would recommend I can't speak to how packed or clubby it gets as I've only been daytime hours. I recommend going then!

Yelp
Food here is pretty decent for bar food! We went for a Phillies game, that's why the lighting is so bad. It was also super crowded and loud and I honestly felt bad for our server because she had to duck and weave around like 50 people at the bar. Our food did take a while but I feel like that's because of the crowd. We ordered wings (delicious), chicken caesar wrap (decent), chicken fingers, (amazing), cheesesteak egg rolls and fries. I would highly recommend this place on a weekday when it's not too crazy crowded.

Yelp
This place SUCKS, staff is incredibly rude, was there for an event and tried to show my id and the man working the door screamed at me to put it away?? Took an hour to get to the bathroom, and another hour to get a drink. Dj was bad staff was creepy, just do not come here!!!! Hey at least they gave us limp fries.

Thomas H.

Yelp
Wasn't allowed in because my ID looked like another person who was also Asian and he said he saw me already. Was super hostile and no one to talk to. This is also in NYE after I paid for a ticket.

Nancy T.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick drink. Nice looking ambiance and a local vibe. Cold beer at the bar. Friendly bartender. Would stop back in for a pint

Yelp
My friend and I visited here on the evening of January 7, 2023. They were one of the only restaurants still offering outdoor seating as we remain in a pandemic. The service was great and the food delicious. It was difficult to find something that worked with my friend's food allergies, but she was able to get something she enjoyed. I ordered the quesadilla. The menu described it as a "Celtic quesadilla," so I asked our server what made it Celtic; did it have potatoes, hash, corned beef? She paused then replied, "It's Celtic because we're an Irish bar." That kind of honesty was great source of joy. I'd definitely visit here again, though hopefully on a warmer day!

Yelp
Excellent spot to watch fútbol. The service is classic Philly so if you're looking for that Rittenhouse vibe, keep walking. Bar food was decent but I thought just a buck above what it should have been. All in all, I'm all in on this joint!!

Yelp
For the love of God and all that is holy, learn how to turn people away when you are at capacity. It was so packed in there, it took forever to get a drink, people were freaking out getting claustrophobic. I went for the World Series game 2 and you closed off the third floor during the 4th inning to make it wristband only. Either have it closed off before people go up there or don't have it open at all, it caused a push on the second floor. I asked one of the bouncers why they didn't cap people goin in and he said "itz the worl seeries broooo" yeah "bro," you're gonna get people crushed to death. Do better!
google avatar

Yelp
Had the "The Peoples Maragarita" and the "Strawberry Lemonade." The margarita is very very good. Also, this bar doesn't smell like your typical wood Irish bar. Very clean and nice!

Jaclyn S.

Yelp
staff is amazing ! they are so supportive and great people! Anthomt, Chris, Alan, and Jeff are the best bouncer. Super sweet and great friends'

Yelp
Popped in here one afternoon for drinks (yes, during COVID). Tables and seats were spaced apart. The staff had their masks on properly. Friendly service from the bartender and prompt. The Pumpkin Cocktail I had was delicious. The beers on tap were great too. Lots of televisions surrounding the bar and the staff willingly changed the channels for the guests. I'm definitely a fan!

Yelp
Went in on Sunday afternoon for a few drinks some food and live music. Everything was awesome, we got there 30 minutes before our reservation and we were greeted with a smile and seated immediately. Our server Maddie was AWESOME, very friendly and attentive even when it got busy she was right on point. Beer selection was good and the food was very good. And the live music by FAT MEZZ was AWESOME!! 5 stars across the board!! Can't wait for another Sunday fun day at PADDY WHACKS on South Street!!

Yelp
Paddy Whacks was fine - the food is very very average. It was quite clearly frozen. If you stop here come in for drinks and fries, which were fair, but I wouldn't get a meal here.

Yelp
There were 4 fights in less than 2 hours. Bouncers had NOTHING on them identifying themselves as bouncers or that they even worked there, so each time a fight broke out the bouncers ended up getting punches thrown at them. People assumed they were random people jumping in the fight. The bouncers were punching people in the head so hard, I could hear it. I watched a girl who was standing at the bar get assaulted by one of the female bartenders. The girls friend got into a fight, a bouncer jumped in and was punching her friend, so she went after the bouncer thinking he was some rando hitting her friend. That's when I watched the bartender jump on top of the bar, pull the girls hair and then slap her in the face so hard. The girl didn't know what hit her, literally. The bar tender started screaming at the girl saying the guy she was hitting was a bouncer. I talked to the bouncer after that and I told him he should have a shirt identifying him as staff. His response.. "yeah I know, but they are out of shirts or some sh*t." They were clearly over serving the younger crowd. They couldn't even stand up straight or speak clearly. Maybe if they stopped over serving people, they would have less fights & it would be less of a train wreck in there. AVOID this establishment.

Rand R.

Yelp
I got kicked out for being brown. I was fully 21 years of age, eating their own food and drinking their own drink from the bar and got kicked out for sitting there. I do not recommend at all. Stay away
google avatar

Yelp
If I could give 0 stars I would. Went there with a group of friends yesterday. My friend wanted to get a drink, and bar tenders refused to acknowledge him. It took one of our white friends to get him a drink. After we tried shaking this off, there was a fight that occurred inside. Our friend tried to help diffuse the situation. The so called "MANAGER" or pushed our friend and continued to lose his mind about 200 ft away from the bar. As a manger, if you're looking to fight your clients off site, you should be fired. It took a black co worker of his to tell him to calm down. He should be fired.

Yelp
Save your money and go elsewhere!! I am so disgusted. Got a chicken cheesesteak.. the chicken tastes like chicken out of a can.. absolutely no seasoning or flavor at all.. dry. Just utterly gross. Literally one of the worst meals I've ever bitten into. And my daughter just came in and informed me the chicken on her Caesar salad is just as bad without me mentioning mine.

Yelp
We were the only table in the restaurant and it took an hour to get our food. Our appetizers were over cooked, burned, etc. The food was not good. The chicken tenders were so tough and dry. Our waitress was apologetic and clearly embarrassed. She was sweet. We will never go back.

Yelp
TLDR: *Racist* bartenders, bad drinks & bland music Horrible service! Went here for the St. Patrick's Day Bar Crawl and had the most unpleasant experience of my life. Racist bartenders -- had a problem getting served while all of my friends (not black) and tens of others got served immediately; my white male friend agreed to order for me and was served immediately. When we switched places at the bar for me to receive my drink, they moved my drink several feet down the bar. I had one beer at another place prior and was not drunk or disorderly. I ordered and paid for a double vodka cranberry and it tasted like straight juice. I also ordered one green tea shot -- I was told there were no green tea shots. The same white male friend ordered three green tea shots and was served all three. Watered down drinks, subpar music and some of the worst service of my life...I was so embarrassed and upset I wanted to cry in the middle of the place. Would not ever recommend and will never be a patron of this establishment again.

Yelp
I recently came here for the first time. There weren't many people there (probably cause it was a Tuesday), but the bartender Chewy was very nice and accommodating. The interior decor was spot on for an Irish sports pub. The music was great and so were the drinks. I definitely will be back!

Jgj N.

Yelp
if we could rate negative, -10. only ones in the place. ordered two drinks for two people, both were mixed and both were horrible basically soda. service horrible, got to listen to two employees scream about people and their phone calls while behind bar. $22 for two glasses of "soda". We left 3/4 of drink in each and walked out without ordering food. That's how bad it was. Went across street to Bridget Foys and had great drinks and food. Other patrons were talking about similar experience at Paddy Wacks. Would never go back even for free drinks. Hard to believe what was considered a "bar tender" at 5pm "working". What a joke. The other employee sitting at end of bar just as bad. Both should be canned.

Yelp
Paddy Whacks is an excellent place to hot for happy hour! They offer $3 pints of Guinness and half priced appetizers! I highly recommend their buffalo chicken sliders, since we are on the topic of appetizers! The fish and chips are priced at an affordable $13. I was very happy with the texture of the fish. It was very crunchy! The fries are cut in a think steak style. Again the fries are tasty and cooked to perfection, not burnt at all!

Yelp
I was there with a very large group of 30 people who were spread throughout the bar. There was a guy playing piano and singing so loudly it was uncomfortable. I have played in bands my whole life so loud does not bother me but this was ridiculous for such a small area. My entire group was complaining and a couple yelled to him to turn down. Unfortunately he was to busy bragging about his Sunday AM radio program. You heard that right BRAGGING about weekend AM radio . It's like bragging about a self published book. Anyway, it was so loud we couldn't even talk to each other across the table. It took forever to get a drink and even longer to get a waitress so we could order food. Once waited on I asked if she could get the piano guy to turn down, she laughed and said not a chance, people complain all the time and he doesn't turn down. We ordered chicken bomb sandwiches which were literally inedible, they were dry and oily at the same time, I have no idea how that's even possible. Both sandwiches were left almost intact and the waitress didn't even ask why. Most of my group decided to leave due to the loud (and not very good) piano guy. I had to go to the bar to track down my check. I told the bartender why we were all leaving. He said he didn't blame us and asked if he could leave with us So the piano guy is the star of my review but I hope you didn't miss the part where the food is awful and the service is almost non existent. The piano guy was the running joke for the rest of the weekend so it wasn't all for nothing

Yelp
The review regarding the woman who was grabbed by the bouncers is actually about me. I was scared to leave a review as I know the bouncer saw my ID and has my information... but I have to share. College girls beware, there is one bouncer in specific who is extremely aggressive towards young women. He called me obscenities and left marks on my arm for refusing his advances. I'm not the only one who has experiences with him. It's really sad cause I loved this bar before he was hired. He was also fired from another bar for harassing women. I have tried calling to bar with no response

Yelp
If you're from Philly you already know that you don't come here looking for the good drinks or the good food. You don't even come here looking for good company. If we're all really honest with ourselves, you don't really come here at all. But occasionally, there are times where you just *end up* here (that or you're 16 and just got your fake ID...the crowd here is about 50/50). And that's more or else what happened to me the last time I came to Paddy Whacks: I was celebrating St Patrick's Day with a group composed largely of non-locals. And being St. Patrick's Day I just wasn't in the right head state to warn them...and, like I said above, we all just *ended up* here. It's ok though, it was an experience, a welcome to Philly hazing ritual of sorts and now we all know better.

Devyn F.

Yelp
The bartender ripped a phone out of someone's hands for recording the bouncer putting his hands on a girl. The girl was shoved and dragged to the stairs for making a statement to a friend about the bad service. He started calling her names when trying to grab her and when a nearby witness started recording the bartender lunged over the counter and grabbed it.

Gwendolyn R.

Yelp
If you're in your early 20's and want to relive your last 8th grade dance you've found the place. The Dj had to be in his 50's, probably related to the owner, and played music that were bangers when I was 12. Even asking to play music from this year fell on deaf ears (Figuratively or literally your choice). Bathrooms were the worst of it, you'd think a tsunami occurred in the 3 by 3 space they called a bathroom. No locks on the stalls and toilet paper everywhere. The drinks were also watered down. The atmosphere, people, and bartenders were great. If they stopped trying to shortchange people and valued their customers and sanitation, I would be willing to try this place again.

Yelp
This bar is strange. Came here on a Friday night around 9-10pm. It was a strange crowd, with strange bar tenders, and strange music. The drinks are inexpensive but there's no drink menu so you really kind of have no idea how much anything is. My friends and I got, 4 yards drafts, 2 shots of tequila, a vodka cranberry, and a vodka red bull for 36 dollars. You can't really beat those prices. On our receipt there were no itemized prices though so I wasn't sure if the bartender messed it up or not. There is live music and a DJ. It was pretty loud. The live music was good. Overall, I don't think I'll come back here but I'd recommend it for college kids who want to go out on a budget. There are booths to hang out and food service.

jade o.

Yelp
Bad Uber Eats and communication service. I left them a voicemail, haven't heard back. In regard to their food, I enjoy it.. yet not worth the time waiting for their food to be completed.

Yelp
This is a great pub for watching any sports games at. Their TV set up is great and it is never super packed and they always have specials. Good bar food.

Yelp
This was one of the few times I just said let me ignore the reviews and just get a quick bite to eat while I'm in the area. Gee, wish I would've never done that! This place is horrible. From the service to the food. I came here on football Sunday and just to take my little cousin out since she just completed her first week of classes. She insisted on wings and I just wanted something simple like a salad. Somehow, after riding up and down south street we ended up here MAJOR REGRET! There was a nice breeze outside so we decided to sit outside until this little boy came around trying to sell us a bar of candy for $10 then this old man came and sat right at our table talking about, " you two are the best looking ones in here" well Mr. Old Enough you could be my father sorry but we're not interested. After that annoyance we decided to come in and have a seat inside. I don't know why but this place must only have one server working and this girl was bad. She didn't know how anything on the menu was, she didn't know what her own job served, etc. Just horrible and clueless! The atmosphere inside was like an old needs to be updated pub. The bathrooms were horrible and need a major cleaning. I had a paddy whack salad while my cousin had the wings and french fries. The salad was just really disappointing and I know, I know who goes to a pub for a salad but then you have to ask yourself how does one even fail so miserably with a salad? That's the real question, eh. My cousin said the wings were okay and nothing over the top at all. Personally, I would never come back to this establishment. And now that I'm looking at the 2 star reviews I couldn't agree more.

Yelp
Great place to watch "the game" and/or Philly locals/South Street crowd during those events. Can always get a seat in front of a TV, at least when I'm by myself. Only real lame thing about this place is they charge for refills on soft drinks. So you get 3 diet cokes they're each gonna be $2.75 plus tip, kind of a rip off when they have beer specials for less.

Jeff S.

Yelp
Extremely overpriced. The servers/bartenders seem more interested in socializing with each other than serving customers. Slow service. Overcooked food. Terrible experience.

Rob P.

Yelp
Our party of 60 plus people in town for a phillys game reserved the upstairs for the event we were attending and once we got there the room was occupied by another party. We were ok with that and just stayed downstairs. We had one couple with us who had a child and they were told that "IT" was not allowed in the restaurant because at 10pm the restaurant turned into a bar. This was 730pm!! To call their child an "IT"... totally disrespectful!! We called down the street and let another restaurant know that we were on our way... by the time the word got around the restaurant as to what the employee had said about 80 walked out and we went to the other restaurant who welcomed up with open arms!! I really hope they were not racially profiling our very large group of chargers fans who happened to be Hispanic. Maybe they should be checked on by all visiting teams!!!

Yelp
Last night I went to this Paddy Whacks with a few friends of mine. I had a burger and some fried pickles. Not to long after I got home I started vomiting violently. it's been terrible I couldn't go to work today. I haven't been able to hold anything down all day. None of my other friends are sick but I definitely am. I also didn't eat anything out of the ordinary that day except for that burger and fried pickles. I advise you to not eat the burger or fried pickles. I gave this place two stars instead of none because our waitress was very nice.
google avatar

Melody W.

Yelp
1/2 price cheesesteaks on Wednesday! This place is chill most weekdays. The staff & the customers are cool. It gets super packed on weekends & the upstairs venue is dope.
google avatar

Claire G.

Yelp
Came here tonight, Lisa was so sweet & quick & the food was great. The drinks were very reasonably priced. We will definitely be back.

Jeffrey B.

Yelp
Classic Irish pub vibe with good food, TVs all around, bar seating & comfortable table & booth seating, outdoor seating, live music
google avatar

Katie M.

Yelp
Probably the worst waitstaff there will be 5 of them all talking to each other while 10 people wait at the bar. Bathroom is gross. Go and sit outside and order two drinks at a time. Very cheap, good happy hour. Not planning on going back.

Valerie L.

Yelp
Sorry love ur place but I don't know how or who could hire such a horrible dj, vibe killer
google avatar

Melissa M.

Yelp
I've been to Paddy Whacks both for food on a weeknight as well as for drinks on the weekend. When I went for food, the place was kind of dead and the food was nothing special. It was an average experience. When I went for drinks it was a lot more crowded, but it was a little strange that there was no set menu for drink prices or itemized receipt for how much everything was. I can't see myself coming back here anytime soon, but it might be better when there is a game on- there were plenty of tv's and I'm sure there would be a decent crowd.
google avatar

Sandra A.

Yelp
I went on a Sunday afternoon just to grab a beer. The staff were all very friendly and the bartender was happy to share the daily specials with me. I know that sounds like something that should be standard or at the very least shouldn't stand out, but I can't tell you the number of times a server or bartender has been annoyed at having to relay the specials. The interior was very clean and had a rustic feel with a beautiful marble fireplace and brick accent walls. I was also pleasantly surprised by how clean the restrooms were. It is a bar and I'm sure it has a very different atmosphere on a Friday or Saturday night, but on Sunday afternoons, it is very relaxed.
google avatar

Kayla H.

Yelp
I wish that I was more of a fan of a place that has such great deals on Groupon, but I felt uncomfortable here. This is an extremely loud bar and the drink specials aren't particularly great. We were here for an Eagles game, and we dealt with a little too drunk fans screaming in our ears. The food was decent, the only impressive thing being the cranberry glazed wings. I won't be coming back here.
google avatar

Sue H.

Yelp
Nope, not Irish. Rap through the speakers, then crap 90's music.... they do have Guinness though. $6 for a beer at 8 pm on a Friday which is not horrible. It's just not authentic Irish. It's 'we say we are Irish but we are a sports bar with an Irish name' bar. Ugh. The said thing... it's set up as a bartender's dream. Could be a great place but the servers aren't up to snuff. Not attentive, would rather finish their conversation with their coworker than wait on their customers.... It could be SO much more! They have the perfect set up for printing their own money but for whatever reason they aren't taking advantage of it. It's very clean. Their are no menus anywhere nor drink prices. The specials are listed in the stairway downstairs to the bathrooms. My beer was cold and fresh. It's a decent place but the one star is based on the above review. When you are looking for authentic Irish.... this isn't it.

Yelp
Ok spot for food if your looking to just go somewhere fast and easy and if you like wings and cheese steak rolls!!!!
