Made-to-order Mexican with local ingredients offered in a colorful dining room & downstairs bar.
"There's a neighborhood-y feel to Padrecito, the Mexican restaurant in Cole Valley. This spot is filled with plenty of people on dates, people in sweatshirts, and everything in between. It's also where to go for Mexican dishes that are all-around well-executed. You'll find consistently tasty tacos, but if you're morally opposed to paying $15 for two, this may not be your spot. That being said, they are excellent to eat, pretty to look at, and are packed to the edge of the tortilla with fixings. Enchiladas and breakfast-for-dinner can also make for a great meal. Food Rundown Chilaquiles Verdes Not just a breakfast food—Padrecito makes them an all-the-time food. The spicy verdes version has veggies and smoked bacon and it rules. A bit soggy, but it works. Crudo de Atun This can be a little hit or miss. It's not the most flavorful and not a must order. Skirt Steak Tacos Arugula on tacos sounds somewhat off, but it works. Carnitas Tacos Saucy delights. The worst thing about this is that you only get two per order. The pickled onion slaw is a nice addition. It will be messy, but that’s ok. Duck Enmermelado Tacos This is a little sweet from the strawberry marmalade, but the duck is a little crispy and a lot delicious. Enchiladas de Res Standout of the menu. The beef is super tender and the rich kale really goes well with it. It doesn’t hurt that the sauce will make you want to lick the plate. Crispy Brussel Sprouts If you need some vegetables in your life, these are an extremely good way to do so." - Taylor Abrams
"Just off the intersection of Cole and Carl streets, the veritable heart of the tiny and mighty Cole Valley neighborhood stands Mexican restaurant Padrecito. But, as of October 17, the restaurant, which opened almost a decade ago, will offer no more tacos or margaritas. Owner Nate Valentine took to a private neighborhood Facebook group to let fans know the last night of service would be October 18 — he says the COVID era dealt too mighty a blow to the restaurant." - Paolo Bicchieri
"Padrecito is a neighborhood Mexican institution, serving thoughtful cocktails with an emphasis on mezcal and tequila and creative tacos like duck enmermelada and Tecate-battered rock cod. It’s also a solid option for brunch when the line at Zazie is just too long to bear. Note that as of August 2021, Padrecito requires all guests over the age of 16 must be vaccinated to dine indoors." - Daisy Barringer, Eater Staff
"This Cole Valley restaurant is a neighborhood Mexican institution, as are its tequila and mezcal margaritas. Split the difference and order a padrecito (blanco tequila, mezcal, lime, agave) for both, and quaff it at one of its outdoor tables, for delivery via Caviar, or for takeout." - Eater Staff
