Paina Cafe debuts kalua pig, poke bowls, and mochi doughnuts on Blue Diamond Road | Eater Vegas

"Honolulu-born Paina Cafe has debuted its second Ninth Island location at the intersection of Decatur Boulevard and Blue Diamond Road, so I no longer have to travel to Spring Mountain Road for its Hawaiian-inspired, counter-service menu that mirrors the original at the Korean Town Plaza. The cafe opens at 8 a.m. serving its very popular mochi doughnuts in taro, strawberry, red velvet, matcha, and guava, with the full menu available at 10 a.m.; highlights include their pioneering poke bowl creations, ahi or chicken katsu, lomi-lomi salmon, teriyaki beef, chicken, kalua pig, and fried saimin, with spam musabi and onigiri as sides. It sits a few steps from the recently opened Bella Vita Italian restaurant and the under-construction ProteinHouse vegan restaurant, and is open daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m." - Bradley Martin

Google
There was a long line but it went fast. Their mochi donuts are good. I like that the frosting isn’t like a solid coating, it’s like frosting. Would’ve liked the red velvet to have a bit more flavor, but the cream cheese frosting was great. The real star was the tarts. I got the pack that had some of each. I don’t like crispy tarts. These were nice and soft & the flavor is good. I will be back to try food.

I've tried their donuts from another location, but have been wanting to try their food. Was in the area and I remembered they have a location here. It definitely was hard to decide what to order on the menu. But I went with #3 Poke Crunch Bowl with Spicy Tuna and Avocados. I was thinking it was going to be spicy hot, but it was mild spicy. Maybe next time I could ask to make it a bit more spicy. For dessert I had their Mango Mochi Donut and flushed it all down with a Lilikoi Passion drink. The staff was welcoming. Service was good. And the food was 'Ono. The vibe was vibin'.

Google
The way the salmon was lazily cut will make me never order salmon from here again. Almost ever piece was not trimmed of skin and fat. And I can tell from other pictures in these reviews that this happens often. This made for a really unpleasant eating experience. Please pay attention to how to properly prepare salmon for poke. There are tutorials on YouTube if employees are unsure. In my photos you can clearly see that thick discolored bits, those needs to be removed when prepping the salmon

Google
Wanted some mochi donuts and ended up here. I'm glad we did! I ordered a blueberry mochi donut and a chantilly cream croissant. The donuts were super soft, moist, chewy, and flavorful! A lot of the flavor was coming from the blueberry topping, but it was a good flavor. The croissant was very flaky, and the cream inside was interesting, I had never had chantilly cream before. The croissant was also drizzled in chocolate! We went in on Tuesday late morning and were the only ones there, so the service was quick! It was also very friendly! The price was affordable, and I would definitely go back. Depending on the time of day, parking can be a little tight since it's near a gym, but other than everything was awesome!

Google
Paina Cafe has quickly become a go to spot for a delicious and satisfying poke experience. The variety of options at Paina Cafe is impressive, allowing you to customize your poke bowl to your heart's content. The ingredients are very flavorful, making each bite a true delight. Definitely come try this place out! We will surely be returning.

Google
Wish my bowl had more flavor. Unfortunately, the rice was mushy. I ended up adding my own flavor. The donuts were amazing as always.

Google
I was SOOO happy to have stumbled upon this! I used to frequent the one in Honolulu when I lived there and didn't realize they moved to LV. Tastes just as good as I remember!

Google
went here a couple times but the salmon i received was grey but when brought back inside, i was told it's "normally grey" and that "a worker might have just made it wrong" but said i couldn't receive a different food or refund. if you go here, avoid the grey salmon that they have and just go with another place that gives food that wasn't made wrong. update: i called the restaraunt and the employee is new and the manager gave me a new bowl so i def do think this improved the experience. thank you to the manager who helped.

Yelp

Yelp
Stopped by to pick up a dozen of Mochi Donuts. Place is decent size with decent amount of seating. Service was great! Loved the cute box they use! We brought the donuts for desserts to a dinner- everyone enjoyed the donuts and devoured it. Definitely were a hit!

Yelp
This was my first time trying Paina Cafe, and it did not disappoint. They have several specialty bowls, or you can create your own. They also offer poke to purchase by the weight if you don't want a bowl. The fish was delicious and they offer a very generous portion. I dropped my rating down to 4 stars because in my opinion, when creating the Build Your Own bowl, additional toppings should not be charged for. 70 cents for each additional topping you add seems a little expensive, especially if you're just adding nori shreds or green onions. It can add up very quickly. Other than that, their specialty bowls are delicious and offer a good amount of toppings for a reasonable price. The fish tastes nice and fresh. Will be coming back when in the area!

Yelp
Very good food and very good service. $14 for a bowl, pretty good size, I ate it for 2 meals. I ordered a bowl that had Kalua pig and salmon poke. A good balance. I asked for an extra sauce and they added it no charge. There was large portions of meat , not just all rice. A great lunch or dinner spot after the gym

Yelp
Pa'ina Cafe is a place that serves comforting Hawaiian cuisines and delicious sweet mochi donuts. The cashier was friendly, welcoming, and patient. The store is simply decorated and clean. The cafe has several small tables for inside seating only. One unisex restroom. They also sell other merchandise like t-shirts, etc. *Strawberry Mochi Donut (no pic). Chewy donut with a flavorful strawberry icing. I'll be back to try some other things next time.

Yelp
A great spot for quality poke. They have poke bowls and plates. You can also create your own bowl which is what we did. Aside from the bowls, you have the option of ordering poke on the side in 4, 8 or 16 oz. Had to grab the 16oz spicy tuna. They also have mochi donuts with variety of flavors. The wait wasn't too long, got served fairly quick. Inside there's a few tables but no outdoor seating.

Yelp
This location is conveniently close by to where we live so whenever we crave poke, we come here for the spicy ahi and the regular ahi poke. You get a good amount for half a pound each. We've had their chicken + rice plates before but personally, that was just average. They also close at 7pm which is a shame. And of course, we can't leave without getting some mochi donuts. The flavors changes all the time. I'm still waiting for that random day when I go in and see the matcha flavor one. I've tried ube, strawberry, cookies & cream, guava, pineapple li-ling and honestly they're all really good. Their dough is still soft and chewy even two days later. (Yes, I know I shouldn't be waiting too long to eat them but it goes to show you how good the quality is even after a day or two later).

Yelp
Not a large location but it does its job. They are extremely helpful with giving recommendations and suggestions. We ordered the Guava Chicken and a Poke Bowl along with 2 Mochi Donuts! Excited to go back and try other things.

Yelp
Ono food. We've eaten here many times and even ordered catering. Mōchī donuts are really good.

Yelp
Friendly service, great music, local vibe Cookies and cream mochi donut - yes! Regular donuts are usually too sweet for me; these are just right, and the flavor and chewy texture are perfect. Garlic chicken plate - smells divine! Wonderfully crunchy, salty, and sweet. The potato salad is interesting; it has noodles in it, but I ain't mad at it. The only downside is the smell of the to-go bag... like melted plastic. I thought there was something wrong with my car or that the food melted the to-go container. No, it's just the bag itself. Cute customization, though.

Yelp
I was in the area and decided to swing by here as I was craving garlic chicken and maybe a mochi donut. I've had their mochi donuts before and they were good. My son said the garlic chicken here is good. The restaurant is real cute. It has a beach house vibe! The cashier was really nice. I saw they have Poké and that is one of my favorites! So I asked the cashier which one she would recommend, either the garlic chicken or poke. She said they're both real good and that the garlic chicken was very popular. I wanted something warm so I opted for the garlic chicken. She said if I can't decide which Poké for next time, that the Paina one is very popular. And I picked the Li Hu Mui Pineapple Mochi Donut. It took about 5 minutes or so and my food was ready. I took them to go. Garlic Chicken: it was so good! It was crispy and tender, but not hard anywhere (like some other places where I think I'll break a tooth). It comes with 2 cups of rice and some kind of I think potato salad (which I thought was good, but I prefer macaroni salad). It had the right amount of sauce on it. I don't like my fried or breaded chicken drenched in sauce. And it also had the right amount of garlic. You can definitely smell and taste it and it was good! Li Hu Mui Pineapple Mochi Donut: such a great donut and flavor. You can taste the pineapple. Lots of chewiness. It was fresh. I loved it. Service: excellent. The cashier was very friendly and helpful. My food came out promptly and it was real fresh. On my wait out, I saw they have 2 fridges of desserts and I think "The Bento", mostly Ube desserts. I love Ube! They even have Ube pies. I'll have to try it next time!

Yelp
Service was great , really nice girl working the cash register but the pike it self was complete trash . Salmon did not melt in my mouth it was definitely not sushi grade . Over all I'd only come back to try the donuts but I don't even eat donuts so oh well .

Yelp
I got this all the time when I lived in Hawaii and worked in Ward Village. Brought back so much memories and tastes exactly how I remembered.

Yelp
I love this place! Cucumber kimchi salad is elite!! The vibes are welcoming and workers are nice (:

Yelp
Love everything about this place. The food was great and the mochi donuts are so yummy. Sorry no picture of the donuts it's on my tummy already.

Yelp
I can always count on Paina to satisfy my craving for Hawaiian food. I love their poke bowls, particularly the poke crunch bowl and Paina bowl. The garlic chicken is my favorite thing on the menu -- plenty of big, crispy chunks of fried chicken covered in their garlic shoyu sauce and served with two scoops of rice. Their bento box is delicious too if you can't decide what to get. It's got some garlic chicken, teriyaki beef, and Portuguese sausage. This location is off of Blue Diamond, in the same plaza as EOS Fitness. Parking can be tough to come by during peak gym hours.
google avatar

Tracey P.

Yelp
Very juicy, savory, crispy, chicken. The garlic chicken plate is an easy go to item for this place! Haven't tried the poke so can't say the same for that but will definitely come back for this whenever im back in Vegas.
google avatar

Dalene L T.

Yelp
If you like Hawaiian style poke - go! Mochi donuts - there are none better! Service - they can have a line but it's worth the wait!

Yelp
Have been going here for almost a year now and everytime I drive back in from out of state we ALWAYS make a stop there!! Me and the mini me gets the bento box!!, the oldest gets the poke crunch bowl w/spicy tuna, the wifey gets sushi bombs (spicy ahi), and we get at least half a dozen mochi donuts!! Mmmm I'm getting hungry now lol. Overall great place it's in a nice little area and the vibes there is chill, the service is just like everywhere else chill as well.
google avatar

Ashley L.

Yelp
Can't believe I haven't reviewed this spot yet, I go at least once a month for their delicious chewy mochi donuts. They post their weekly rotation of flavors on their IG and keep an eye out for my fav: Mango. I've had their poke a couple times always fresh! You can order online too for easy pickup
google avatar

Michael G.

Yelp
This place is horrible! I ordered the salmon Poké and took one bite of salmon and spit it out, it was over a bed of HOT brown rice; I got up and threw it in the garbage and walked out. It was not even worth my time to complain and get a refund. Steer clear of this joint!!'

Bunny B.

Yelp
I tried the mochi donuts here and they were honestly really good. Crispy on the outside, soft and chewy inside - the texture was spot on. Not too sweet, which I liked. They tasted fresh, and the flavor was clean and simple. Nothing too heavy or greasy. There weren't a ton of flavors, but the ones they had were well done. It's the kind of snack I'd definitely come back for if I'm in the area. Light, tasty, and satisfying without being over the top.
google avatar

Yelp
One of our go-to's since it's near house! Used to love eating at this spot back in Hawaii so it's a given I'd love it here too. Just a piece of home in the middle of the desert

Yelp
A friend from HI suggested this place and I recently went to check out the newer location on Blue Diamond Food (3/5): I ordered the Nanae Salmon Poke Bowl and I really wanted to like it, but I personally felt like it was overloaded with pickled onions and rice. There were a lot of different toppings, but it didn't seem like they provided a lot of salmon, especially since I got the large size. The mochi donuts were great, however, and it was delicious trying a few different flavors. Service (5/5): we ordered takeout and our service was fast and friendly Ambiance (5/5): it's a small, but well designed restaurant. While we waited for our food, it was fun looking at the wall art and various options of desserts and food in the fridge. Overall (4/5): it's a good place to check out if you want desserts like ube custard pies or mochi donuts, but the poke fell short of my expectations. I'd like to give it another try in the future, maybe trying the poke crunch bowl, since it seems like it has no onions.
google avatar

Yelp
Visiting Vegas and came across this little cafe by my friend's house. Hawaiian vibes, friendly service, Ono grinds!! Poke bowls are fiyah! The ube mini tarts tho - broke da mouth! Go now - no regrets!

Yelp
The first meal of the trip. It's a bit harder to find poke where we live now, so we made sure to get some here. I went with the poke crunch with spicy ahi poke. Oh, did it hit the spot. About as close to home as we'll get for now. I loved the crispy tempura flakes on it & that teri glaze, yum. It's jus extra good when you haven't had poke in a long time. Place was very clean & service was great. We made sure to make another stop before leaving.
google avatar

Bronwhyn H.

Yelp
Great, casual atmosphere! I have come back a few times just for the spicy Inari. It always tastes super good, the doughnuts are delicious, and their garlic chicken is always a must have.

Yelp
First time visiting this location. I've had the mochi donuts in the past from the other location but haven't visited in awhile. This time I decided to try their food for lunch. It took awhile for the cashier to turn around and take our order. Not sure if she didn't realized we were ready to order or was busy on her phone. I ordered the guava chicken plate and my fiancé ordered the kalua pork and poke bowl. They have drinks in cans or bottles only, no fountain drinks. Prices were pretty fair for the amount given. My fiance's dish tasted as expected, tender pork and poke salmon had good flavor. My dish on the other hand, tasted just as it looked - char grilled. Presentation was lacking, and before I took a bite from the chicken, I could already taste the char just by looking at it. I tried to dip it in the guava sauce that came on the side, but the char flavor was still very much there. I continued to eat hoping it was just the pieces on top, but almost every piece of chicken in my dish tasted like char. The potato scoop was delicious, best part of my meal. Churro cheesecake had just a hint of churro flavor, not enough to want to order it again. May try a different dish next time if I happen to feel like stopping for some other mochi donut flavor.

Yelp
4.4 rating Price Portion Palatable Perfect = Paina Service was great. The wait wasn't long. And the music choice (common kings) was a vibe.
google avatar

Chelsea S.

Yelp
I was on the hunt for a poke place and found Paina. Especially for the price, I was really happy with the portion size! The spicy tuna was incredibly fresh- some pieces were a tad fatty (I think? Not a raw seafood expert) but I was really impressed with how fresh it was. Maybe it's just because I ordered online, but I'd love to see more sauce and topping options- the tempura crunch and sauce were great, but usually there are more sauce options. Quality is king with seafood so I would definitely order again!
google avatar

Yelp
This was my first time trying Poke in Vegas! Paina Cafe was recommended to me by a few friends and it did not disappoint. I got the Nanea Salmon with spicy tuna and a Spam Musubi. The taste of the poke was delicious and very good quality. I've never had masago before, but I loved it and it added such a great flavor to the bowl! Very filling meal too for the price. The Spam Musubi was simple, but still good! I got delivery and the food was still hot and good when it arrived! Will be ordering from here again (:
google avatar

Kayla B.

Yelp
If you are driving by on Blue Diamond you need to stop by Paina Cafe and grab some mochi donuts and spam musubi. I recently was introduced to mochi donuts and I think I am sold on only eating mochi donuts now. They are so soft and chewy! We got a variety of flavors of the week. I think my favorite was strawberry! Their prices are very reasonable and I feel like their flavors are interesting and delicious. Some places I visit often have unique flavors, but they don't turn out well. That is not the case at Paina Cafe We weren't planning on getting spam musubi, but my husband saw it and decided we needed some. I'm so glad he did because they were delicious. I've been craving them since we had them. Definitely will be back again soon!
google avatar

Sandra G.

Yelp
Unfortunately I was too starving after working out that I forgot to take a photo. :(. I thought I was gonna get a snack but I was actually pretty full. Fresh ingredients, great choices, healthy. What more do you need? I get a basic crab bowl but I went with friends who had other types. They loved it as well.
google avatar

Krystal T.

Yelp
The food was alright. The menu is limited so I tried something new. I'm more of just regular poke without the extra stuff, and there wasn't as poke .. oh well
google avatar

Nicholas H.

Yelp
The food was amazing everything tasted good the poke was fresh , the doughnuts all tasted so good. All the workers were very nice and helpful when picking what to get the recommends all slapped. We got poke bowls and doughnuts. The spam musubis seemed like they had been sitting there all day but everything else was fresh and tasty. The ambiance was fun and bright , good music playing and lots of indoor seating
google avatar

Gracie J.

Yelp
One of the better poke shops in the area. Friendly service with other non-seafood items available and a fridge with some desserts you can pick up. I ordered the poke crunch and it was delicious, although they got my order wrong and gave me 1/2 salmon instead of half tuna. The fish was fresh and the sauces were well-balanced and the bowl was generous. I was glad to find that the bowl wasn't soggy and that I was full after eating the large bowl. Ube pie was good although we were surprised to find mostly custard under the top layer.
google avatar

Roxanne E.

Yelp
My co workers and I came here for lunch and I was so happy we did! I ordered the Nanea Poke bowl and 3 mochi donuts. (Hokkaido ube, taro, and cookies and cream) All was so fresh and delicious! The Nanea bowl was filled with veggies and salmon ginger poke! The salmon was soooo fresh and soft it melted in my mouth and it also marinated so well in the ginger shoyu sauce. The pickled onions were bomb! It did have more rice than I wanted, but I was happy with the portion of fish! The mochi donuts were so soft and chewy! My favorite was the Hokkaido Milk Tea with Ube! I also got a spam Musubi to go. That too was on point! Super flavorful and the rice was perfectly made! The staff was welcoming and helpful with the menu as well! I will definitely be back!

Yelp
Awesome service! Great grindz! Excellent prices for the food you get. One happy opu!!!!

Yelp
I came to Paina for a poke bowl. I ordered the California Bowl, and my boyfriend made his own Poke bowl. Upon first look at the food, I felt underwhelmed, but once I ate it, I changed my mind quickly. I am used to bowls with more toppings, but the poke made up for it. The pickled onion and pickles cucumber were so flavorful. Mine had a generous serving of imitation crab and his of ahi. I will say that I wish I had ordered something different because after tasting my boyfriends, I realized how much better the fish tasted. The service was great. Cashier was very helpful and recommended me some items when I told him I was a new customer. I will be back to Paina to try some different bowls and the mochi donuts.
google avatar

Mark M.

Yelp
I decided to give this place a second try and unfortunately it did not hit. Food is not made fresh. It is preheated. There is no chef or kitchen cashier goes to the back and cooks as well. Cleanliness is not good. Bathrooms are dirty. I do not recommend everything's overpriced as well!!! I will not be Coming back here
google avatar

Anna R.

Yelp
Paina Cafe is always a solid choice when we are in Vegas. They have everything covered from poke bowls to musubis to plate lunches. One of our favorite things to order are their poke bombs. Mochi donuts and tarts round out the menu. This particular location easily fairly new to us because we always go the original one. But the service from the young gal at the counter was friendly and helpful. Definitely would return to this location.
google avatar

Aaron F.

Yelp
We both chowed down our spicy tuna bowls so quickly we didn't have time to take a photo! It's was really tasty and super fresh, will 100% be going back. Getting a big bowl of high quality poke like this for just $13.50 is a great deal!
google avatar

Noel C.

Yelp
Hawaiian bowl for the win. My favorite combo with shoyu poke. Bowl perfect size for subdue your hunger when you still got stuff to do.
google avatar

Yelp
Just like home .. hard to find good local Hawaiian food here.. so you gotta check out Pa'ina!!!!
google avatar

Alreeze Crystal M.

Yelp
Currently, this one of the top 5 poke spots I've experienced. The presentation of the food is 10/10. The food look appealing to the eyes. As for the quality, the quality of the protein are flavorful. I haven't experienced poke that reminds me of poke from Hawaii until now (aside from other smaller businesses). The customer service was also about a 8-9 out of 10. When I asked the cashier about what they recommended, they were able to give an idea. Helped me pick my order because of how they provided the recommendation. Overall, I'll keep coming back here when I crave a good poke or even a chicken bowl.
google avatar

Geneva L.

Yelp
This was our first time trying this place. Their Mochi donuts are really good. My favorite is their garlic chicken it was full of flavor and it was the perfect amount of garlic. The place is small so when they are busy it's hard to find a place to sit. The customer service was okay. Nothing that stood out but not bad either.
google avatar

Alex D.

Yelp
Service was really fast and wonderful. Ordered the Garlic Chicken plate, delicious and very crunchy! Nice portions and price is pretty decent. Also, I got a 4oz of Ahi Poke, kinda felt like it was overpriced for what I got. Would come back but would skip over the side of Ahi next time.
google avatar

Leslie M.

Yelp
I was craving poke so decided to try out Paina. I have been to the other location, but only tried their mochi donuts. The donuts are bomb, would totally recommend. I got the salmon poke bowl. It was a shoyu ginger salmon on top of rice. There were pickled red onions, a mayo, aïoli sauce, radish, micro greens, and sprinkled Nori. I liked the bowl, but if I'm being honest, I have had fresher poke. They only have one type of poke salmon. The flavors in the bowl were balanced well. My cousin got the poke crunch bowl and she seemed to like it. I got a small Ube pie for five dollars. It was a two layer custard like pie. I'm not sure what the flavor underneath the Ube was but it was delicious, coming back to get the pie again. They had other plate lunch food that looked good as well and some pastries. They also had a refrigerator filled with to go options like a cucumber salad some kind of dip, different types of tarts, pies and Inari bombs. The service was awesome. Everyone there is so nice. It makes me feel like being back in Hawaii. There are about six tables and some stool seating along the wall, but it gets pretty crowded in there. I would definitely go back here. Aloha!
