The 38 Best Restaurants in Phoenix | Eater Phoenix

"Over the years, Pa’La has shifted from a fast-casual concept to something more ambitious and grounded — a wood-fired neighborhood restaurant with deep roots in coastal cuisines from around the world. Chef Jason Alford leads with fire: dishes are kissed by flame via a handmade oven and Japanese robata grill, inspired by the traditions of the Mediterranean, Japan, and South America. The original 24th Street bungalow feels like a hidden garden escape, with a leafy patio and intimate interior built for lingering. Weekly tasting menus — including a vegetarian omakase and a community dinner with wine pairings — offer a more fine-dining feel, but even a quick lunch delivers that same attention to detail, with ingredients sourced from a tight-knit group of local farmers and producers. Hot tip: The menu changes constantly, but the wood-fired cooking and bungalow patio never miss — and the weekly omakase dinners are quietly some of the city’s best." - McConnell Quinn

Went on a date with hubby, and this place did not disappoint. Tried the 4 course dinner, and every plate was delicious. The fish was perfectly cooked, buttery and delicious. The service was amazing 👏 and we added the wine tasting, which was a great choice. We were offered different wines that paired perfectly with each plate. Will definitely go there again!

Google
Experience was fantastic with gap in enjoyment. Every dish fired individually and served individually, that includes your sides, so you get potato first, 20 min later your steak. Appetizer come after your main course. Each party on the table gets their food at different time, every dish photo posted came out with minimum 10 min up to 25 min of another one. Excuse is don't want the food sit in the kitchen and come out fresh, my explanation would be poor timing as our order come as one, doesn't makes sense food come out seperate with 10-15 or even 20 min later... And yes I've worked in kitchen, I've managed restaurants and yes been to culinary school! Food was delicious, serving sequence was frustrating. Decor and design is beautiful and my favorite style of restaurant. We will definitely return. Anticipate $100 per person if you are hungry! Server was nice, friendly and welcoming!

Google
incredible place, the rib eye and branzino were truly fantastic and cooked to perfection. Every dish was outstanding, bravo to the chef. The atmosphere is wonderful with a beautiful spacious and misted patio along with a small dining room. Service was as good as the food!

Lots of tapas. Good premade cocktails. Delicious fresh food! The pictures says it all

Google
First time at this location, food is just as delicious as the dt spot. Parking is easy to find, right behind the restaurant. Service is on point, the patio is also very cute. Went with signature 4 course testing menu, appetizers have amazing and balanced flavor, grilled fish is always a great choice at Pa’La. Can’t wait to come back to try their lunch menu.

Google
Wood-grilled delights were enjoyed on the patio during sunset with excellent service over five courses with wine pairing and IPAs. Favorites were the beef tartare with squid ink milk bread, the fresh whole grilled fish with chimichurri sauce over a white bean salad and the Black Angus NY strip steak with black garlic glaze with Japanese sweet potatoes and shishito peppers which were all flavorful, well-seasoned and deliciously charred. 🔥👍🏼👏🏼🥂

Google
An interesting little place. It is a converted home, so seating is very limited. We tried the espresso sake Martini, the winter salad, the NY strip, the whole wood grilled fish and the Japanese sweet potatoes. Thumbs up for the salad, steak and sweet potatoes. The fish needs to be seasoned better on both sides and pass on the sake espresso martini. The service is good and even the seating is limited it’s very cozy. They also have a larger restaurant in downtown Phoenix with their plenty of seating. Their menu changes a lot, so be sure to check the specials. It is pricy, expect to pay about $100 per person for food, drink and tip.

Google
Had a great dinner here, we chose the 6 course dinner and all of the courses were delicious! The ambiance on the patio was perfect and the service was great.

Yelp
Excellent food and very interesting menu items you don't see at many restaurants. I highly recommend!

Yelp
I thoroughly enjoyed our Valentines Day night at Pa'la. We had the four course special with the wine pairing. Upon entering I do wish they had a hostess stand it feels kind of awkward not knowing where to stand. Aside from that the meal was amazing. The pasta which I did not get a picture of was the best thing. I love the wood-fired crust it had on it and the flavor was amazing. The second best was the ribeye I don't know what else to say besides it was outstanding and cooked to perfection! For the wine tasting I wish they did a Sauvignon blanc instead of Chardonnay but maybe that's just a personal preference. The dessert served with the course was a grapefruit cake with a mascarpone topping it was the perfect subtly sweet way to top off the evening I will definitely be retuning to try more of their menu especially since it changes seasonally!

Yelp
We had a party of 5 so I was able to taste test several menu items ordered by our table. Hummus - very tasty, homemade hummus; very stingy portion of bread, would be low cost to provide a 2nd piece Octopus - only my second time trying octopus and it was a much better experience than my first. I liked it and it seemed cooked just right. Eggplant - so delicious, I loved the dish Shrimp (2 grilled shrimp @ $6 each) - again very good Tuna sandwich - very good as well So no disappointments in the food itself. I did think the prices were a little too high on all the non-sandwich menu items. The server seemed a little irritated with us over some indecision on what to order and timing, we had some older members of our party and I wish he would have been more patient/understanding. There was only one other occupied table indoors and one on the patio. Not a whole lot of ambiance indoors, the books around looked super interesting and had I been dining alone I wouldn't have been able to resist picking one up. I'd come back if I was feeling rich and spendy. The dishes I liked the most were the smaller plates you'd peck at but the prices add up quick.

Yelp
Wood-burning Oven and Japanese Robata Grill for smoked and grilled food goodness. The patio is fantastic for seating and they keep a fire burning at the front with chairs for you to relax on. There are heaters and string lights to stay warm and make a nice relaxed vibe. Service was fanstastic and they helped me create a simple cocktail when they were out of the one I wanted. Look at the specials written inside above the chef, there will be more items than on the printed menu. Bone Marrow Appetizer: Comes with black bread for dipping, I saw they changed the menu to be sourdough now and I think thats a better pairing. Bone Marrow was fantastic. Shrimp Salad: 3 huge pieces of shrimp, the greens part were all locally sourced and an off mix of bitter, roots, and peppery. Would have preferred some more traditional greens mixed in. Scallops: We ordered two of these for 2 families, one wasn't enough. Delicious and slightly spicy with crunchy bits on top for more texture with each bite. Spanish Iberico Pork: "True" Iberico from Spain, cooked bone-in for more flavor. We trust the cooks judgement but it looked quite rare for something that has so much fat content it would have been just as tasty cooked medium. Rich, nutty taste, I swear I could taste a hint of acorn from the pigs diet. Prime Ribeye: This was so perfect rare and with a nice char on it, you can't get much better than the grilled taste you get from cooking on wood, we cleared the plate completely.

Yelp
Pretty tasty restaurant! Beautiful cozy outdoor dining, space heaters available. My friends and I ordered lots of things. We particularly enjoyed the Pork Belly Tacos, the Sweet Potato, and Carrot sides. My friends enjoyed their salmon and pork entrees, and the flank steak was alright. We agreed that the Pork entree was the best, melt in the mouth mindblowing! The waiter was great, answered questions, never let our drinks get low. The Grapefruit Olive Oil Cake was tasty, with the thickest whipped cream ever.

Yelp
Patio space is beautiful and service was attentive. Food looked beautiful, but we didn't love everything. Favorites included anchovies & crackers and spicy grilled Japanese sweet potatoes!

Yelp
We booked for the communal table, and what a great experience it was. We were seated outside which was such an amazing night. Wine was so good, and food amazing. Such a great experience. The restaurant is cute inside and has a great outside seating area that is also dog friendly patio. The shrimp and scallop was absolutely a highlight of the night. Steak kabob with the sweet potato was great. Everything was cooked right.

Yelp
Went to "the table" experience and it was fantastic. This was an 8 course tasting menu paired with wine. First course was a feta/pita spread 2nd: scallops (sooo good) 3rd: grilled shrimp (tad spicy) 4th: corn dish 5th: bone marrow and anchovies (amazing) 6th: fish 7th: steam with Gorgonzola 8th: chocolate cherry cake Colin was the lead for our table and did a very nice job at making sure we were all taken care of! This was a family style atmosphere on the patio which was set up very nicely! Very cute vibe! I do wish there was a print out of all the food that we had because I couldn't remember at the end of the night. There was also wine on the table and maybe more whites and less reds (there were a lot of reds left and no whites). Highly reccomend and can't wait to come back and try the menu options! The pizza looks amazing!

Yelp
What a wonderful find! I'm visiting my sister and she has wanted to try this place for a long time. What a gem. First of all, it's very attractive. Beautiful outdoor seating under lots of trees. The aromas were intriguing. And the food was incredible Octopus with a very tasty sauce. A tuna sandwich with a super fresh salad. A nice Prosecco to round things out. Service was attentive without being overbearing. We loved everything about it. And Johan was excellent.

Yelp
Met up with a friend here for lunch and was pleasantly surprise. I ordered the smoked sausage sandwich and we also tried the squash. Everything was w nice portion (not too much) and the service was great. We sat on the patio so def recommend if you're looking for a good bite in patio weather!

Yelp
Had the most amazing time here! I went with 2 other people and we shared everything we ordered. We were seated outside on the cute patio with lights and heated lamps. Our waiters were very knowledgeable about the food and the wine and made several suggestions that were awesome. We had the polenta, grilled shrimp, Japanese sweet potato, the mussels, the pasta and finished the meal with delicious dessert! Every single thing was just delicious. I loved everything we ordered! You can tell they put a lot of attention and details in the flavors and honestly I cannot wait to go back!
google avatar

Yelp
The food was delicious! Fresh ingredients, tasty grilled bread, the anchovies appetizer was great too. We stopped in for lunch and we can't wait to try dinner service! Patio seating is a plus, highly recommend.

Yelp
Went for an early dinner before a show and very much enjoyed our time. The mussels in Mediterranean sauce were some of the best we ever had. Ordered the olives and almonds and they were a nice spicy snack. Shrimp tapa was very tasty as well. Service was great. On a busy street but the ambiance on the patio was nice enough to drown any noise.

Yelp
This is a very special experience and more than wonderful ingredients, thoughtful dishes, deliciousness, and intelligence service. We ate outdoor on the patio lit by the ambiance of strong lights and heaters. If you have a special someone or a celebration, this is the place.

Yelp
Let me start off by saying this was one of the best meals I've had since moving to Arizona. Our group had reservations to the nearby Celebrity Tbeater for a night of comedy with Jonathan Van Ness so we wanted to eat before hand. As i looked around PaLa stood out due to its reviews, rotating menu, and wood fire concept. Reservations were made seamlessly via the site and they confirmed verbally a day before and sent a reminder text. The day of we arrived early and got some drinks at the bar next door. No wait and was the perfect apéritif! Our time arrived and we were seated promptly. Our server was very knowledgeable and personable We were a group of 4 and ordered family style the following dishes: Delicate Squash - how they got the squash so tender was a work of art. The flavors pop out and you can see why this is a crowd pleaser Scallops - perfectly cooked and sized well. The four of us split these scallops and had a ball Mussels - it actually sold out after we ordered. It came with pita bread for dipping although i should have asked for more Bucatini Short Rib Pasta - we ordered two of these and glad we did. So yummy Spanish Octopus - i tried these when I stopped by the PaLa booth at the devour festival. The flavors are amazing and The octopus is so tender! The meal was absolutely delish and we all left with smiles on our faces. Will definitely return again. Our one critical review is that the drinks are a bit high. Cheaper to just walk next door and buy a drink.

Yelp
We ventured for after dinner cocktails. Nice choices & ambience was cool. We sat at the bar. It was a quick stop but enjoyed it.

Yelp
This place is WOW! A hidden gem and worth checking out every time you visit AZ. Go for the full experience. Amazing food and staff. Collin is one of the best and very knowledgeable about all things food and wine.

Yelp
One of my favorite places of the year! Wow! Amazing! I was so impressed. We went for lunch. Right next to wren house. Plenty of parking space. The place itself, is cute and decorated well. Outdoor seating was also beautifully designed. Bathrooms clean. Our server was great! Very attentive to us. Okay let's get to the food! Words can't describe how delicious it was, but I will try my best to explain our experience. My boyfriend and I shared all these plates. We started with the yellowtail crudo with sungold tomato, tomato ponzu, and lime. I had 3 top dishes and this 1 of 3. I loved the blend of the flavors to make this crudo. 10/10! Delicious! Presentation was spectacular! Next, we had sungold gazpacho with ricotta and Za'Atar. Another of my top 3 dishes for lunch. Beautiful vibrant color with an amazing presentation. If you never had gazpacho this is a great one to have. I love gazpacho and this hit the spot and is great for a hot summer. Very refreshing and flavorful. Third, on our experience for lunch was the Spanish octopus with purple potatoes, parsnip, and Chimayo glaze. The octopus could have been more tender instead of chewy but that base and glaze definitely made up for it and made it complete and yummy. Fourth, was the wild Mexican shrimp with a sour plum butter. It comes with 3 big shrimp but you can add a shrimp for $5.00 which we did. What made the dish special surprisingly wasn't the shrimp but the to die for sour plum butter ! Fifth, we had the pasta. Squid ink bucatini with pork belly, yuzu miso, and pecorino toscano. One of my top 3 dishes of the day. Plenty of pork belly with amazing flavor and texture of the pasta. Absolutely amazing ! Finally, we ended with the dessert. It was a dulce the leche cheesecake with strawberries and cream. I'm hesitant with desserts because I am not much of sweet tooth and it needs to be yummy for me to want to take on those extra calories, but I gave it a shot. Wow! Surprised me! Dulce de leche can be overpowering but not in this case. It was perfect. The consistency of the cheesecake itself was perfect. I don't also like strawberry or fruit added to cheesecake but this didn't seem to take away the attention from the actual main show of the cheesecake. Delicious I definitely will be going back! Great service, beautiful spot, clean, lovely presentation of food, good quality food, delicious food, great flavors. Best of all I felt this was fine dining at a decent price. Amazing experience! Please go check them out! You won't regret it!

Yelp
This place has a very delicious serous menu. The food was well seasoned and served hot and ready to eat. I will definitely be going back to this place.

Yelp
What a treat! I had been scoping this place for a while and finally made it in for lunch one day. The space is in what seems like an old house and is quaint but not cramped. I was promptly greeted and seated on the lush outdoor patio/ front porch. It was very relaxing even though it was right on 24th st. I chose the muffaletta that came with a side salad. All of the ingredients were so fresh and the bread was insanely delicious. The server made a point to check in on me often to see if I needed anything. Although it's a little on the pricier side, the service, quality of the ingredients, and the preparation are well worth it. I can't wait to come back here with a group to try all of their other tapas and items!

Yelp
Great experience. Attentive to our timeline and made sure we got to our show on time.

Yelp
Such delicious food, and a great atmosphere and staff. We had the lunch special steak sandwich which was a larger size and so tasty. The crudos, bone marrow, beef tartar, and pork belly lettuce wrap was also so so good. Everything was so delicious! Probably my new favorite restaurant. The waiter was also amazing and very hospitable. Will definitely be coming back.

Yelp
A real treat. Service and food are tremendous. Menu changes often and is always unique and dialed in. The restaurant week menu is exceptional. We are lucky to have this in the neighborhood.

Craig b.

Yelp
Big fan of Jason Alford the creator and now Caleb Stimson chef at pala on 24th. The place is small, quaint, & perfect setting for gourmet meal. Service was very professional and to the point. Chef & host greeted us, and we the four of us let them choose what to feed us. Jicama salad, octopus, Iberico prime steak, sea bass, flan, drinks. Everything from the time we set foot in the place to us leaving was above and beyond..huge thumbs up. Yes we would return.. definitely need reservations.. many thanks to staff and excellent treatment ...
google avatar

Kaila D.

Yelp
Came with a friend for lunch and Just wow! Service is unmatched. Not many places blow my hair back, but the food here is superb. Beyond delicious. Lovely dining experience. I'll be returning for "The Table" with hubby.
google avatar

Jude W.

Yelp
I enjoyed the Brodetto, which is a seafood soup with a tomato base. The Brodetto was out of this world and the bread was sensationally delicious. The ambiance was pretty chill, and the server was very responsive, upbeat, and professional. For my beverage, I had sparkling water. For desert, I enjoyed the expresso cake, which was off the chain. The food and service were simply fantabulous. I will definitely return to explore other options on the menu.
google avatar

Anna P.

Yelp
Service was wonderful, the gentleman working recommended the best items, and they included a lot of local ingredients! Loved it.
google avatar

Myshell G.

Yelp
I wanted to try this place for awhile and finally got a reservation. It's a quaint home converted into a lovely restaurant with delicate design. The food was just as special. We started with a few small plates, pickled archives, octupus, Japanese sweet potato. The main dishes were the Argentinian steak and mussel dish. Everything was flavorful and presented beautifully. The portions are small, but adequate. Service impeccable. I can't wait to go back again.

Yelp
When I found out this place had live jazz music, I couldn't have been more excited. I went to college for music and haven't heard live jazz at a restaurant since my college years. I made reservations on the upstairs patio because the live jazz is on the second floor. I was NOT anticipating being stuck in a corner in a 2' by 3' space. The manager Gilles is a douche and was exceptionally rude. I said there's no way I can fit in there nor my friend. While I am plus size, she is not. He could not have cared less and said - well - you made the reservations for the outside patio. Sir, while that is true, a normal prudent person would not expect airplane seating at a restaurant with prices this high. He offered to move me downstairs even though there was plenty of seating upstairs - not at the bar. I took one look at the menu when I sat down down stairs (which also was very close quarters - I could have touched elbows with the people at the next table) and decided this was not worth it. Rude people, tight space, not worth your time. Zero stars.
google avatar

Karen P.

Yelp
Friendly service and brilliant menu - a must try! Polenta, burrata salad, anchovies, scallops, octopus, corn elote, salmon, grilled bok choy, iberico pork - all amazing.
google avatar

Ryan Y.

Yelp
This is a hard one for me. The service was second to none and amazingly attentive. The outdoor seating was great and the little restaurant is very cool. The food was good but totally overpriced. I feel like this a trendy little spot for people who want to spend A LOT of money but they don't really need to. Good to try once and say we did it but I won't be back.
google avatar

Jyoti D.

Yelp
Amazing beyond words. Fresh n fabulous! Locally owned! Use local ingredients! Very creative! Service as fabulous! Great ambiance
google avatar

Stephanie H.

Yelp
Underwhelming. We were really looking forward to this place for restaurant week. We came at our reservation time and were promptly seated and then ignored for 20 minutes. When our server came over we gave him our drink order, and food order. He came back 8-10 minutes later with one of our parties drinks and notified us that not a single thing we ordered was available. At 7pm on a Saturday their menu was cut, all 6 items we ordered were out. We opted to leave and will not be returning. If there is something in the menu you are looking forward to please call ahead to make sure.
google avatar

Matt B.

Yelp
Loved it. Cute place, wonderful ambiance to match the great food and great service. The stars of the show were the scallops, secreto, cheesecake, bluefin and buratta. Not necessarily in that order - but pretty close. Look forward to coming back to try the rest of the menu.
google avatar

Yelp
One of the best restaurants in town. I have not had an opportunity as of yet to eat at the downtown location, only the original location. Today I had the amazing tuna sandwich with a simply dressed salad. A perfect lunch. The tuna is beautifully poached (I believe) and dressed with a light sauce and greens. Nothing competes with the wonderful fresh delicious fish. Can't wait for my next visit.

Cass G.

Yelp
Delicious food! Great atmosphere and ambience. Staff is wonderful! Definitely go and get the artisan bread and burrata to start!
google avatar

Gaz H.

Yelp
Yah. Real good. Tai is super fun. Fish. Brussels sprouts. The grain stuff at the bottom of the bowl. Its on the "best of" lists for a reason. The outdoor patio creates a lovely little bubble that makes you forget the meh neighborhood where the restaurant in located. Sit outside on a lovely evening and enjoy.

Tasha S.

Yelp
This is such a cute restaurant! The patio seating was like I wasn't in the city! I was so surprised at the food! The flavors just had our whole party wanting more! We did the table menu and the sauces had my mouth singing a happy song! Such a great value that included wine! Server Ryan was a delight! Chef came to ask how we enjoyed the meal. All I could say is more mole please!
google avatar

Yelp
After having a few drinks at Wren House Brewing Company, we wandered a few doors down to Pa'La for dinner and were not disappointed! Bonus - if you check in on Yelp, you get a free appetizer! They offer causal dining with counter service (order at the counter and they bring your food once its ready) with a menu that changes daily (they post it on Instagram daily so you can preview it). This new location looks like an old house-converted-to-restaurant with ample seating both inside and outside, and a cute fire pit in the front. My husband and I started with Pecorino and crackers (Yelp offer), then split a Navarro Bowl (grains, roasted veggies, beans, and sauce) and a Sausage/Poblano/Fennel sandwich. Everything was made to order and the ingredients were some of the freshest I've had. Great all around experience for a casual meal!
google avatar

Zachery A.

Yelp
The food & service here was incredible. My partner & I cannot remember the last time we had a meal that was this delicious & creative. The wood fire oven makes such a difference. We could of drank the broth from the mussels. Our server recommended the sweet potatoes & they were so simple yet so yummy. We will definitely visit this place again the next time we're in Phoenix.
google avatar

Romeo H.

Yelp
The portions are small, but worth ordering a second dish. My wife loves the Buffalo Mozzarella Sklaccia. They didn't have it the last time I went, but the Swordfish is fantastic. I just wish they were open all day long. I get off at 4 and they're only open mornings and nights...so if we do go I have to wait.

Yelp
This place popped up on my Yelp app when I was searching for a different spot for us to have a light dinner. With being drawn to heritage/cottage houses, I was excited to enter this charming 1920's renovated bungalow. A very polite gentleman was repositioning the wine bottle display with precision care. Using fresh daily ingredients that can be prepared in their featured wood fired oven keeps the menu changing daily. You need to read the offerings on the big chalkboard for there is no menu posted online. Tastes from South America, the Mediterranean and Japan can describe the flavors to be found in their tapas, seafood and bowl combinations. What stood out to me was the freshness of the tomato that accompanied the roasted polenta. $11 Very, simple, almost underwhelming but nice. The fresh mozzarella and wild oregano, tomato pizza $8 had a silky, good texture. This thin eight inch diameter crust pizza, paired well with the mixed green salad. Even with arugula being too bitter for my personal taste, the cucumber, cut baby orange tomato, poblano pepper, radicchio and fennel mixed with a crazy good dressing made for a fab salad. This evening, it didn't bother me that the wine was served in a dainty plastic cup, I was just happy to have a choice of wines to pair with our wonderful bread items! The polenta was freshly roasted, crisp edges and soft on the inside. The pizza crust was delightfully delicate and the skiaccia had a nice texture and was pleasingly soft in the same bite! I understand that one of the creators of Pa'la worked at Noble bread. Now I know why the breads were above and beyond to me! The gentleman who prepared and served our tapas was the same person who was perfecting the wine display earlier. A meticulous person is who Iike preparing my food ! It's all in the details when it comes to tapas.
google avatar

Michele G.

Yelp
From the parking lot walking into Pa'La, you smell the delicious aroma of their wood fired grill. Small and unassuming from the front and inside, this place is a true gem with fresh, authentic Mediterranean inspired seafood dishes. Man was it good! Service was impeccable and although indoor seating was very limited, we got the perfect 2-top to enjoy our special seafood cuisine. Prices here aren't cheap, especially with the seafood add ons, but you get what you pay for. And, here you are supporting a local business, so in my opinion, totally worth it! I could also tell everyone working here really takes pride and believes in their work here. I could tell by their friendliness, willingness to help, and genuine passion and enthusiasm in talking about the food here. The smoked shrimp in my grain bowl were extra large and juicy! Grains were a perfect blend of flavors and textures. My husband tried half octopus half specialty fish (can't remember the name) in his train bowl and wowza that fish was perfectly cooked and so delish! Extra bonus: if you do a Yelp checkin, you get a free appetizer - so, of course I couldn't resist the marinated almonds and olives - scrumptious!

Yelp
Delicious! The patio is a nice oasis to the city. Everyone in my party liked the polenta.

Yelp
We needed to run an errand in Phoenix so took the opportunity to stop in for lunch. Drove right by before I spotted the building and used the parking lot in the back. Walked up to the counter and checked the menu. This is not a huge menu but really interesting. My husband and I ordered a sandwich, polenta, anchovies and grain bowl. Everything was delicious, but most outstanding was the polenta which was cooked in the wood fire and topped with the most luscious roasted tomato sauce. Another memorable dish was the sandwich which was perfectly constructed with cheese, salami and pickled onions wrapped in a flat beard that they bake fresh for each order. The person who helped us was really nice and made good suggestions. Disregard and reviews complaining about the paper plates or prices. Go and enjoy!

Yelp
Delicious food and such a cute patio. Our service was really helpful with explaining the dishes and service so fast!

Yelp
Absolutely amazing. The food and Service is outstanding. A must go try. Fantastic Ambience too!

Yelp
My friend is moving back to Cali so I decide to take her out somewhere nice so I chose this place. When I was planning, I wanted a Spanish tapas plate with plenty of appetizer and wine selection. Unfortunately, it failed my expectation. Their food is not bad, it is actually delicious but since they're a really small restaurant, a lot of their food goes sold out pretty fast. This place is more like a grab and go sort of place. Not the nice, sit down Spanish tapas place I have in mind which explains the 1 star deduction. I ordered the skate fish bowl and it was mind blowing! The flavor is just amazing. We also had the anchovy appetizer and the manchego cheese appetizer. Although small in portion, their flavor is explosive.

Yelp
Pa'la is a great gem on 24th street, located it what looks like was an old craft style home. Pa'la has a small menu, but that allows them to focus on highlighting fresh offerings and innovative dishes. The menu leans heavily on seafood, much of it sourced from another favorite of mine, Nelson Meat + Fish. Don't confuse this location with their Downtown restaurant - while the owners are the same, the concept and menus vary quite a bit! I personally love the cozy feeling of this Pa'la and will always choose to sit on their beautiful patio. We always share dishes family style when we come to Pa'la. If it's just my husband and I, we pick two of their appetizers and share one bigger dish. When we come with friends, we double up on apps and split two bigger dishes. We almost always order the Navarro bowl because it is just too good to skip! It's a heart bowl with grains, greens and topped with your protein of choice. For apps, I love the salty anchovies so we frequently get the boquerones. The marcona almonds and olives are a lighter option that pair well with other items. Recently (March 2022), Pa'la switched to only lunchtime hours due to staffing constraints. I hope they're able to offer dinner service again soon! Highly recommend calling ahead to make sure they're open. The website isn't updated as often as their Instagram page, so calling ahead is prudent.
