TL;DR - Sheer luxury in the Welsh countryside.
We came here to celebrate my partner's recent birthday and couldn't have been happier with our choice. Palé Hall is a gorgeous old house which has been lovingly converted into a boutique hotel - as soon as you come down the drive you realise how unique this place is. Although it's a hotel you feel like you're a guest at a stately home... Mark kept saying he felt like he was starring in Gosford Park.
We arrived on a cold day and were greeted on the door and welcome into the gorgeous wood panelled hall where a roaring fire was burning. Staff gave us two glasses of champagne whilst they took our bags up to our room. We were in one of the smaller "classic" rooms, but it was beautifully appointed and spacious - a huge bed, sofa, big wardrobe and a TV hidden inside a mirror! Water, tea, coffee and home made cookies were in the room - plus a bottle of mead!
For dinner we ate in the Huntsman's bistro and everything was delicious - I had salmon followed by monkfish and dahl, Mark had chicken liver terrine followed by rare beef. We also had some amazing desserts, followed by coffee and petit fours. We rounded out the evening with a whiskey sat by the fire and it was wonderful.
Next morning we had breakfast which was superb - there's lots to choose from but we went for muesli, orange juice and some pastries followed by the full Welsh breakfast of bacon, scrambled eggs, sausage, mushroom, tomato, laverbread and black pudding.
There were a couple of hiccups - our order of toast didn't appear for breakfast, and neither did our morning newspaper - but these were minor and didn't detract from the overall wonderful experience. Great food, amazing surroundings and excellent service.
