I paid over $9,000 as a guest of the Pali Hotel Westwood Village from March 2020 through July 5, 2020. Although my room was nice, I WAS (IN MY OPINION) ULTIMATELY TREATED LIKE TRASH. I WAS ORDERED TO LEAVE BY HOTEL MANAGER HECTOR VIRAMONTES AND VP OF OPERATIONS ADAM SYDENHAM.
Hector was initially nice to me, but as the literary saying goes,
"Familiarity breeds contempt." The negativity and unpleasantness began when Hector advised me to park overnight on Tiverton Avenue despite the many parking restriction signs on the street. Hector parks on Tiverton for many hours, but I worried about getting a ticket. HECTOR THEN GAVE ME A PERSONAL INSULT AND CALLED ME PESSIMIST.
I felt increasingly uncomfortable around Hector who, in my opinion, seemed to have a veneer of phony charm to mask his underlying aggressiveness. Granted, I have complimented Hector for being nice and helpful, but those qualities were eventually in short supply in my own experience with him. I would therefore stay away from the hotel for most of the day, only returning after Hector's shift ended at 5:30pm and his car was gone on Tiverton.
The breaking point came when Hector wanted Orkin Pest Control to treat my room after I found a large insect in my room's door jam and then caught it in the hotel hall. Despite this, I was concerned about possible negative side effects from pesticide for me and my dog. I verbally told Hector and emailed him, copying Pali Society VP Adam Sydenham.
THEN THE HAMMER CAME DOWN. Hector emailed me that I must leave the hotel upon expiration of my pre-paid hotel payment on July 5, 2020. I asked why, and HECTOR REFUSED TO ANSWER! HECTOR SAID HE WILL NO LONGER ANSWER MY QUESTIONS AND "OUR RELATIONSHIP IS OVER." I FOUND THAT COMPLETELY OUTRAGEOUS AND THOROUGHLY UNPROFESSIONAL FOR THE HOTEL MANAGER TO SAY SUCH THINGS TO A PAYING GUEST, A PAYING CUSTOMER.
I called, emailed and texted Pali Society VP Adam Sydenham to ask why I am being kicked out of the hotel and, in my opinion, being treated like trash. Adam left me a phone message that we can arrange to speak, but quite curiously, Adam did not and would not respond to me in writing. I did not pursue the matter any further with Adam.
Hector subsequently emailed me that my room smelled and some guests were complaining - this despite the fact that I am very clean, and often sprayed inside and outside of my room and bathroom with cinnamon and lavender air fresheners that I bought on my own from stores. My cans of air fresheners were kept on the bathroom floor. I very often cleaned my room and wiped the floors with sanitizing wipes. I also used the wipes to clean the bed linens after Hector said they were dirty (from my dog rubbing against them). I TRULY TRIED MY BEST TO KEEP MY HOTEL ROOM CLEAN AT THE PALI HOTEL WESTWOOD VILLAGE.
Soon therafter, I thought that Hector and I were on good terms again. I even asked if him if there were any job openings since his assistant manager Roxanna had recently left. I also asked if I could stay at the Pali Hotel in Santa Monica at the same rate I already paid in Westwood. Hector emailed me that there were no job openings, and that Adam said I would have to pay a higher rate at the Pali Hotel in Santa Monica. I was still forbidden to remain a guest at the Pali Hotel in Westwood Village. Hector offered his help to find me new place, but I declined.
On a positive note, Pali Hotel Westwood Village front desk employee Cindy was very nice to me, as was former assistant manager Roxanna, who helped retrieve my tote bag that was mistskenly taken from my room by the hotel housekeeper (though Hector later told me that he learned from Roxanna that I wouldn't let housekeeping clean my room one day which I don't remember).
All told, despite my nice, comfortable room at the Pali Hotel Westwood, my stay there has been one of the worst, saddest, most degrading experiences in my life.
