LA’s New Restaurant Openings

"Palms N’ Patties is a minimalist burger spot in Santa Monica that has serves just three things: cheeseburgers, grilled smashburgers with inside-out buns, and fries cooked in beef tallow. And fans of “clean ingredients” will be glad that learn it’s all made with grass-fed beef and zero seed oils." - cathy park

A basic smashburger experience, I don't think it was worth the waiting. The only reason why we heard good things about it...plus they had a 50% off deal in the afternoon and took a chance on this new spot! The wait was extremely long and took over 45 minutes for our order to be served. I would not visit here if you're in a rush or wanting a quick lunch meal! Overall, the food was good, the fries were yummy, the wait, was disappointing. The grilled smash was delicious and greasy! They were out of their house made lemonade, though. The ambiance is very strange as it has four different restaurant stalls that share a space. The bathrooms are outside and through a exterior hallway. There isn't any visible signage on the exterior of their space so look for the graphics on the window. It's next to KATSU BAR.

Since coming back from France I have been seeking out this flavor of fries cooked in animal fat. I found this place randomly as I was searching. It is located in San Monica. Stone throw from Brentwood neighborhood. They are fairly new. Opened since about 6 month ago. The fries are cooked in beef tallow. You can really taste the difference. The smash burger was quite impressive as well. They initially made a mistake on my order but quickly corrected it. People commented on a long wait. There was no line on a Saturday afternoon when I went. I do agree the service time can still be a little slow. Btw there is a parking lot at the back with lots of spots. Best of all, it’s free.

I was hoping to like this place—and while the burger itself was delicious—Palms N’ Patti s really failed to hit the mark in terms of price, size, and wait time. Make no mistake about it — restaurants have a hard time. Overhead costs are high and this restaurant is just getting off the ground. Hopefully they get better. Below is my experience in each category. PRICE. I paid almost $13 for one double patty burger and nothing else. That’s a fair amount compared to other smash burger places, but not egregious—if the size was right. Which brings us to— SIZE. Man that was a tiny burger for $13. See the photos. I left starving. I’m a slim guy—and have a healthy appetite. But that burger barely left a ding. You can see from the photos how little meat there is on a double. SERVICE. They’re just getting started here so they may improve operations over time. It took me ~15 mins to get my burger. TASTE. The saving grace—the (tiny) burger was delicious. ***** Hoping this place improves. The tiny size and price makes it hard to believe it would ever be worth it for me. NOTE: This play offers a free burger if you leave a review on Google Reviews and Yelp. A lot of their recent reviews may be because of this. On the plus side, unlike other restaurants I’ve seen, Palms N’ Patties asks for your honest review and doesn’t require you to give a five-star rating in order to get the benefit. I at least give them kudos for that.

Google
I had the burger smash and it was delicious. It’s a ‘healthier’ version of in n out. The burger was very small so I would get the double smash next time.

A pretty good (grass-fed beef) smash burger on the west side for a reasonable price! The fries were really good too. At first I thought it was a ghost kitchen, but it’s a fairly small storefront space with limited seating that’s shared by a couple of other quick bite spots. The staff was really nice, and I’m definitely going back!

Newly open place. Part of other smaller food spots that will open soon I believe. Encountered their content online and was curious to try it out. We got the cheeseburger, the smash and the fries. I think they were a bit overwhelmed with the number of orders so wait time was a bit long. But, it’s okay, we knew they were freshly opened, probably still figuring things out. Now the food. I got the smash. The meat was super thin - like very very thin - which made it a bit tasteless. It was fine but tasted a bit blend in my opinion… The cheeseburger (I didn’t try) was apparently good. I have to say the fries were actually good! Crispy. Good consistency. So, overall it was okay - just for me the meat is so thin that you can’t really taste it. I love smash burgers but I still want to have some meat and taste it.

This is my first time here, and I can tell that the quality of the ingredients is excellent—all organic and grass-fed. The taste is really good, and the packaging is well done. However, the only drawbacks are that the location doesn’t have a restroom and they are understaffed. I understand they were busy, but it took about 30 minutes to prepare my order. That said, I really enjoyed the taste, and I’ll definitely be back. I highly recommend it!

Google
Unbelievable smash burgers. This place is brand new and I almost don’t want to mention how good it is because I’m afraid it will be tough to order once everybody finds out about it. The smash is my favorite and the fries are crispy and perfectly cut. I am a big foodie and burger guy - this is a top 5 spot in LA for sure. I have only ordered it for delivery a few times and it’s been awesome. I can only imagine how great it is when you eat there.

Yelp
It's in a small food court next to Katy's Bar (Japanese sandwiches and chicken) and a smoothie bar. Counter service with bar style seating. This place is new so on a Saturday night I was the only live customer though it seems they do a good takeout delivery business. Very affordable grass fed burger for $7.77! fries cooked in beef tallow burger was small but tasty. Fries out of this world!! Crispy! Like McDonald's, french fries as a kid, which, in fact, at that time were still fried i. beeftall Note is that it's a very small menu basically just a cheeseburger and a Smashburger and fries and drinks

Yelp
I was torn between leaving a 4 or 5 star review. I went with a 4 because even though the burger was good, it wasn't amazing. Let me say the price of the burger is great at under $8, but the fries stole the show haha. The fries were definitely the best part of my meal. They cook the fries in beef oil which I think is what makes it extra yummy. They have it listed on the menu so that's nice for my vegans/vegetarian friends. They have a very select menu right now with two burger options, and you can add extra patties and what not if you'd like. The burger options are the regular burger or a smash burger. I ordered the regular burger. At first glance I thought they gave me the smash burger. I guess they smash the patty no matter which burger you get. I heard the smashed is where they also grill the bun.

Yelp
Pros: Burger was delicious. Thin and crispy patties. Yummy sauce. Fries were crispy and flavorful, but nothing out of the ordinary. Cons: It took 45 minutes for the order to be ready. Granted, it was during lunch hour and there was only one staff member working. While I sympathize with this, that is way way too long for a simple burger and fries.

Yelp
It's new yet they have it down!!! Delicious smash and regular burgers(I prefer a double) and the fries are what Micky D's used to be like many years ago and crispy fried in tallow so good!!! Oh and the sauce that's house made is also really tasty you'll want to get some on the side as it's good for dipping the fries in too...I love a delicious sauce and they've achieved it! Super nice people working there too!!! It's a win win!!!! So happy we have high quality grass fed burgers close by!!!

Yelp
New burger joint by the house. Gave them a try and found it to be fairly decent. Smash burger style, with the reverse bun. Compared to its peers (HiHo, Heavy Handed, Burger She Wrote) I personally feel Palms needs to do a little more to stand out. I easily ate 2 doubles and I'm not a big guy. Adjusting price or bigger portions would have me come back. Crowded when we came in for takeout, so they must be doing something right!

Yelp
Great food with clean ingredients. Grass fed beef, tallow fries, organic ketchup. Staff very friendly.

Yelp
Been waiting a while for this place to open... and it was well worth it. Possibly the best smashburger in Los Angeles. And finally some fries to rival my fever dream memories of McDonalds in the the '70s. Fast turn, great service, overall great. Looking forward to becoming a regular.

Yelp
Love this place! Great ingredients - grass fed burgers, organic ketchup, beef tallow fries - at reasonable prices!

Yelp
YUM! Finally it's here a seed oil free grass fed organic burger place. The smash burger was amazing, and perfectly seasoned. The owner Roston was there and suggested the double smash and I went w his recc. He was really nice and I could tell he truly cares about the quality of the food coming out of his kitchen. French fry portion is huge too. The food came out so fast, will definitely be back again. Price is extremely fair for such high quality ingredients.

Yelp
Our new favorite burger place on the west side. Counter style service but made clean and with care. 100% grass fed burger patties, fries cooked in beef tallow and even organic ketchup packets. Absolutely delicious for the price. Burger is outstanding (we went with the grilled smash), crispy fries and wonderful house made aioli. The owner is a really nice guy as well. Wish him the best of luck!

Yelp
Loved that the beef is grass fed and they don't use seed oil. The portion is a bit small but delicious!

Yelp
It was really good! Pretty cheap but also the burger was a little small. It was also pretty hard to find.

Yelp
I stopped by today and tried their double cheeseburger; it's my new favorite burger spot on in my area! The bread and butter pickles make the burger! Also amazing customer service.
