Palo Seco (formerly known as La Tunita 512) Review - South Austin - Austin - The Infatuation

"The tacos at Palo Seco are excellent, and the chili and lime-infused consomé is so good that we’ve debated if it’s socially acceptable to carry around a small flask of it. They usually have a limited menu of rotating specials and tortas here, but most of the people anxiously lined up are here for the beef birria tacos or the quesabirria, the latter of which adds a signature spin on things by frying the cheese directly on the griddle before going into its tortilla blanket. The end result is truly something to look at, and even better to taste. photo credit: Richard Casteel" - Nicolai McCrary

What a beautiful peaceful place. The thunderous crashing of the waves, the brilliant blue sky, the ticking and clatter of palm fronds in the mild ocean breeze are calling us back.

Our favorite beach. Wide, empty, simply beautiful. We rented one of the cabana's right off the beach road back in 2017 and loved it so much that when were traveled back in 2022 we rented another cabana in that section even though we rarely go back to the same places. The area is very quiet and away from it all. If you stay further down like we did it will take you 15 minutes to get back to town. So load up on food (and liquor ;) ) and chill away. We cannot wait to go back!

Another awesome Costa Rica beach in Puntarenas. A long, endless beach that is anchored to the north by Rio Pirris, which is a large river flowing into the ocean. Lots of Ticos fishing the river and the adjacent ocean. A good surf beach, and at low tide a great biggie board beach. This is not a swimming beach because of the rough surf. Nice trees spaced out along the beach provide shade and privacy. After your beach adventure stop in in Paritta for dinner at one of the many restaurants.

The best morning jog you will ever have on a beach. At low tide, the beach is a perfect reflection of the sky and it is amazing how far away the ocean will seem. Plenty of sand dollars await if you watch out for them. On a second trip to Costa Rica, I just had to go back here, the place is rather untouched by mass tourism and a perfect location from which to further explore Manuel Antonio nearby.

This is a very tranquil, unpopulated beach that seems to extend for as far as the eye can see. During my time there, I only encountered a dog and a few other people. I did see a wedding, and people seemed to be congregated near their hotels. It's not difficult to find a section of the beach all to yourself.

Beautiful beaches with ample space to enjoy it with out many other people near by. The island Beach is dotted by bars, restaurants, and resorts in case you get tired of feeling like you have the beach all to yourself. The area is know for excellent fishing, mangroves that host tons of wildlife, and world class surfing. The family and I spend as much time as we can there at Casa 1, a beautiful rental one Km down the one road on the island.

If you want to stay away of large groups of people and/or tourists, this is your place. Do not expect 5 star hotels or installations but is nice and very quiet . There are a couple of hotels where you can stay confortable, but not luxurious at all. Just be very careful when swimming. There are treacherous rip tides or currents so stay in waist deep water at most or just stay under the hundreds of palm trees ane enjoy the view. Wait for sunset with your loved ones and have your camera ready if you like to take pictures of the gorgeous scenarios. When you access the beach, to the left side there is a bar called Mar y Sol. Ask for ceviche there, really good and recommended with a cold beer. Hope you enjoy your stay in Palo Seco!
