The Best Restaurants in Athens, Georgia | Eater Atlanta

"An Eater tip from Paloma Park general manager Hank Sewell helped us land this restaurant on the list. “Almost anybody traveling to Athens for gameday has heard of us because it’s where their friends are already drinking on the beer garden or waiting to pick up our tacos, wings, and nachos,” says Sewell. Paloma Park has a large outdoor patio with a big screen, perfect for watching the game al fresco. The Tex-Mex joint has plenty of shareable foods — try the taco “fold”, which is essentially a meaty wrap with lettuce, pico de gallo, and elote corn — and happy hour drink specials. Sewell says celebrities like Kylie Jenner, Ella Langley, and Miles Teller have stopped by the bar for promotional events." - Sarra Sedghi

Their Saturday happy hours is amazing drink prices. 8 bucks for a large pitcher of craft beer. Amazing! Food was pretty good too. Unlimited chips and queso is a must have! I will come back every chance I get for that Saturday special. Live music was just starting when I left. Looked great outdoor area!

Google
The food was alright but super overpriced- all the items in the picture was around $70 but then everything was just drenched in the cheese sauce. We also happened to went on a promo night and tried the promo drinks that just tasted like water down sparkling fruit juice. Maybe it was because we went later in the night but the music was LOUD & it was hard to even talk without screaming. Overall, it’s a cool place to hang out (they also have a nice big screen outside for game day) but otherwise expensive, mid food.

Google
Walked in here around 9 PM on a Sunday night... There was plenty of seat available to sit at but the music was too loud and I made a quick decision to go to El Paso Restaurant a couple doors down because the menu and noise level were more enjoyable in my opinion. There is a 4% upcharge to your bill if you pay using a credit card

Google
Paloma Park has such a great atmosphere! The beer garden is so fun to hang out in when the weather is nice and you can get drinks outside as well! My favorite menu items are the southern chicken tacos and the pb+j margaritas! This restaurant is kid friendly and dog friendly and they also have water bowls for the pups!

Google
Truly the BEST shrimp and grit I have had! We went to Paloma Park for brunch and everything on the menu was amazing! The Green Curry Tiger Shrimp and Steak and the Chimmichurri Steak were our group favorite. We had to order twice! They were very busy on Sunday brunch but the server was very attentive and the food came out fast. This place is huge! A great spot to hang out, nice ambiance. Definitely will be back when we're in Athens again!

Google
Refills on salsa, queso is a great concept. Pretzels were great. The tequila selection was great and well priced.

Google
Upbeat energetic area. Food was great. Specialty drinks were excellent. Pumpkin Spice Martini, Peanut butter Martini we unreal good! Plenty of space indoors and outdoors.

ABSOLUTE MUST TRY IF IN ATHENS Attended Paloma for the first time as a freshman during football season. Every weekend they were consistently doing incredible business and needless to say there was a good reason behind that. The food itself is top tier, they have a wide variety of options for just about every tastebud, highly recommend for families. Service was also just as good as the food, and don’t get me started on the atmosphere; simply excellent. Between the garden seating option which has a giant screen displaying all of the games on for that day, along with a variety of interesting decor, they nail the tailgate/cookout with friends feeling, and it does an excellent job at putting everyone in the party in a brighter mood. 10/10, 5 Stars, MVP, whatever you want to say, that’s this place. MUST TRY

Yelp
Paloma Park is the best and if not, one of the best bars/restaurants in Athens. They have a crafty menu with delicious food and authentic drinks. I had the PB&J margarita last night and it was nothing like anything I've had before. It was perfect! My friend, also noticed their pickle margarita on the menu which I'm sure some would love, but personally I'm not a pickle fan so I didn't order it. Our bartender was very kind and let us know that she would be around to help us the rest of the night, regardless of where we were in their huge facility. There was trivia going on when we were there which looked like tons of fun, but we showed up towards the end of it so we didn't join in this time. Paloma's always seems to be having fun events like trivia and specials for their customers which is why it's so loved by the Athens community. I also have to mention how fun the atmosphere and vibes are of the whole restaurant. They often have live music outside and tons of seating for large crowds. I will definitely be here again soon!

Yelp
Everyone here was friendly. They keep the place really clean and orderly which i appreciate. Space is big so it's great for big group gatherings. The pickle margarita (spicy) is refreshing. Bring cash with you coz they charge 4% to use credit card.

Yelp
Tacos, Tequila! Friendly and accommodating staff. Ice cold beer with a good selection of regional craft. I can't wait to come back.
google avatar

Sarah K.

Yelp
The tacos were delicious! However did not love the chips as they were thicker than normal but paired with the guacamole was a great combination. When you walk in, you order food at one counter and drinks at another. Easy order process and great for big groups as you can pay for your own bill. Huge outdoor space but was too hot to sit outside! I got the prickly pear margarita- it was good but extra sweet. The color made my picture very pretty.

Yelp
Super strong margs and lots of great flavors - go on Tuesday as they're $4! Great place to watch the game on weekends. Some of the food is great and others isn't good at all. Their shredded chicken is usually not very flavorful and super dry. Sometimes their tortillas chips are overcooked. Their wings come in unusual flavors but overall very good. We also really like their brisket tacos! Service is fairly fast and the spot overall is very cute! Come for the drinks if nothing else!

Yelp
I finally got around to trying Paloma Park, and I'm glad I did. This is notwithstanding the fact I stopped in around Noon on a Saturday during UGA parents weekend. It was busy and kept getting busier. The place is cavernous with two very sizable dinning rooms plus a sizable outdoor seating area. It features numerous flat screens for watching sports. Go Dawgs. Being solo this visit, I chose to sit at the bar. It was a good choice. Right above the bar was a huge flat screen showing the UGA home basketball game. The bartender was on a ball. What about the food? One of the best tacos I've ever had in my life was the Brisket taco in a flour tortilla. You can chose corn, but for this one I thought flour would be best. If you order this and don't like it, I don't know what to say. The shrimp taco, on the other hand, was underwhelming. If I recall correctly, the prices were $5.00 each, which is very reasonable for the quality of the tacos, which I would say are generously portioned. Two of them were enough to fill me up at lunchtime. For food, the drill you go to the food counter to place your order and pay. They give you a number on a stick so the food runners can see it to deliver your order. It works. The service was great. Friendly and on the ball all the way around is the best way for me to describe it. It's full bar so all of your booze groups are covered. I washed my meal down with a Creature Comforts Tropicalia as one does. Cheers.

Yelp
Perfect place to hangout on a GAMEDAY. The drinks and food are great. Everyone is always entertained with the outdoor T.V.s and the constant games on.

Yelp
We came here for the Sangria deal for Brunch on a Saturday! I will say Paloma was not too packed when it first opened, then a lot of people started coming in. The Sangria was good, because it's not many places in Athens that do Sangria pitchers. I've definitely had better. Our server was very nice and even provided recommendations when the Philly Cheesesteak Roll that we wanted, wasn't available. For food, it wasn't many brunch options on the menu. We ended up getting the pretzel bites and the wings, which were good snacks. I wish they had better brunch food. Right now they are changing up the menu, so I hope the visit to try out more things.
google avatar

Caitlin H.

Yelp
The food was solidly good, but the pickle margarita absolutely slapped. I really appreciated the quick seating and service.

Yelp
I have nothing bad to say about this place! Came here as a spontaneous girls late lunch and was pleasantly surprised. I will say, their food menu is not that exhaustive which I don't find an issue. Their drink menu is the opposite so this would be perfect for a light eat/drink spot. The price point for drinks is about $12/13 which I say is averagely priced. I ordered the Princess Peach and was a little disappointed that it didn't come with the peach ring, but the drink was still good nonetheless. It wasn't too sweet, so if you're into sweet drinks I'd probably try something else. I ordered the spring rolls and the shrimp tacos and they were soo good. Very filling, I ended up having to take two tacos to go. I would definitely order the shrimp tacos again. I'm venturing into the pescatarian world so I was glad that they had this as an option. Overall, this was a great place and I'd definitely come back to try out more drinks!

Yelp
A recommendation from Will from their other location down the road (which we love too) this place is very large !!! The space is gigantic! Theres a front area with a bar and tables and waitresses (we had bella) the back area has couches and lounge area with a few bars and a gigantic outside area! Theres also another outside area right out from with tables. The space is endless. The food is delicious and i enjoyed a strawberry salad! It had candied walnuts strawberries and fresh greens and i asked for a balsamic vinaigrette! Absolutely delightful! Great staff very friendly good service all around! This space is immaculate and they do host events here! Beautiful space!
google avatar

Mary M.

Yelp
They have no idea what they are doing. Ordered outside and couldn't order what we wanted. Seats inside are 3 ft off the ground. Ordered wings and nachos. Wings came; hr later no nachos. 70.00 order; cancelled nachos finally. Had a pitcher of mimosas. Food quality is very good; just need to work on customer service

Yelp
Great college spot in Athens. Highly recommend and will return. Staff great and enjoyed parents event for daughter's sorority in 2024.

Yelp
We visited once on a very cold April afternoon. We were happy to find a place ready to seat us on a busy Saturday lunch window in Athens. The venue is nice, open, so clean, and staff was welcoming and attentive. With the unusually cold April day, the venue was not warm - most of my party kept full coats on. There were several items not available from that menu, and since the brunch menu is fairly limited anyway, we ended up ordering a lot of deep fried foods - empanadas and egg roll - and the charcuterie plate. The fried foods were good "bar" foods. The charcuterie at brunch today seemed as nice as one could put together from Walmart. Really expected a little more than the meats chosen, 2 cheddars cheeses and pickles out of a jar. Will we give this place another try? Perhaps. Maybe during another menu window.

Yelp
Paloma park is the best spot in Athens to drink, anytime of day. On weekends they boost a huge screen outside to watch games and during the week they have a great happy hour special that is arguably the best in town. They also have a generous food menu with some great options. I love coming here for all types of events and consider myself their number one fan. The bar does get super crowded on games days and there is sometimes a wait on drinks. However , the staff is very well trained and are trying super hard to reduce wiat.
google avatar

Zachariah S.

Yelp
Carlos and staff was very attentive. I didn't get pictures because we were too distracted with company. But the birria egg rolls and pretzels were excellent. They have a large drink selection as well. The the Paloma's, there specialty, obviously, are good and strong. Like Bull. I don't know much of the other food selection because we were in a huge group but many of the others were satisfied with their selections. But as previously stated, staff is almost the first thing, if that's good, the rest falls into place.
google avatar

John H.

Yelp
Wow, there weren't places this nice when I was in college here. Outside seating, large and spacious. New furnishings and decor. They have games on but not TVs everywhere. Ordered Elote, Crab Rangoons, and the chicken tacos. It was enough for two people and literally came out in less than 5 minutes. Good beer and cocktail selection. I would definitely eat here again.

Yelp
We had a dinner reception here last week and it was spectacular. Great atmosphere in the Cantina Room, attentive staff and the food was just incredible. We had everything : nachos, pretzel bites, different types of tacos, oysters, stuffed jalapeños and probably ten other things. And each item was outstanding. I highly recommend, and we'll return next year.

Amanda U.

Yelp
Paloma Park is one of the best bars and restaurants in Athens. They have so many daily specials and I love going there for brunch. The Sunday chicken fires are awesome and I highly recommend them. Also I tried the nachos and pretzel bites are BUSSIN'. Service is very attentive and friendly staff. Overall 10/10

Cinco N.

Yelp
Let me tell you whoever made this dish needs a raise asap. It's not to spicy but just right, great flavor and very satisfying. The chimichurri is amazing, definitely have to stop by. Anna Ruth was amazing and very polite. This is the first time I've had a server not rush a customer, but also be patient with orders. Always has a smile on her face no matter how busy the restaurant was. If you come to Paloma park please ask for her and I guarantee your service will be amazing
google avatar

Madelyn D.

Yelp
The food here is great, and so are the drinks, but it is a bit messy of a place if that's your style. Definitely recommend pretzel bites and chimichurri fries and shrimp tacos.
google avatar

Clive H.

Yelp
Great bubble tea!! We love it here and stop By every chance we get! Super friendly staff as well

Tabitha C.

Yelp
Came here for game day and service has been great all day. Had a live bad before kick off and a dj during commercials. However, they decided to keep playing music throughout the game once it became 4th quarter even though everyone in the beer garden came to watch the game and be able to listen to it too. When asked why they made the sudden change, it was because "we're up 28 points..." as if we care that we're destroying Tennessee. Georgia fans want to watch the game no matter what, not listen to some frat boy's mixtape

Yelp
This restaurant is new and very cute. You have to call the day of to make a reservation which is a little disappointing. The front of the restaurant has very casual seating which looked nice for a drink and some appetizers. The back has tables and so does the outside. Me and my group were sat quickly and some friends ordered drinks, all of which where very good and reasonably priced for what they where. My friends ordered the seltzer brand pictured and said it was worth going back for alone. The lemon and clementine flavors tasted like candy and the grape fruit flavor was like juice and not as sweet. We ordered a few plates to share because it is tapas style. How ever it took FOREVER for our food to come out. It was probably because it was a new restaurant but it did take a very long time and people who sat down after us where served there food before us. All the food we had was really good. We split 3 plates between 3 of us but we probably should have spilt like 5. We were all pretty hungry after dinner. And our meals where much cheaper than we expected because we didn't order as much as we should have. We ordered the grilled chicken tacos, the spring rolls, the Brussels sprouts, and the pickles. I would definitely recommend the spring rolls and the Brussel sprouts. The chicken tacos were okay but nothing special. No one at our table liked the pickles because they were covered in a vinegar sauce which just made them too strong to enjoy. Over all I think it's a great place for drinks and some appetizers but not a huge group dinner.
google avatar

Rebecca H.

Yelp
Really good food!! We were trying to figure out the vibe because it says tapas but it is definitely not traditional Spanish tapas, AND not priced like tapas (many dishes over $10 - we personally thought most things were overpriced). However, the food was delicious. The sliders had peach bacon jam on them which was super good. The dipping sauce for the spring rolls really made that dish. Definitely add short rib to the nachos! The tajin margarita was so yummy and I would definitely order again. The service was very quick and the food came out very quickly too. The place is HUGE, because it replaced a bar/event venue. Lots of indoor seating, lots of outdoor seating (with jenga & cornhole), as well as a separate bar section. Overall, I would go back for the food, but not for the prices.

Yelp
It's seems like people comment on restaurants when they have a bad experience more than when they have a great experience. Well, I wanted to leave a positive note for every great restaurants I've experienced. This has the be the best restaurant in Athens GA. It has a different type of cuisine compared to all the other bar food and it's flavorful to your tastebuds. The vibe is great for hanging out with friends and family, not to leave out, it's pet friendly. More importantly , great service is key to a great night out. 10 out of 10! Must try this place out and make the review for yourself.
google avatar

Cory D.

Yelp
The vibe of place and the drinks are great. We had the Park Paloma and the Blackberry Smash. The food, what was available, was good. We had the sliders, tacos, and churros. However, we tried to order 5 other menu items, but they were unavailable. My bill was almost $60. It was way too expensive for the effort and amount of food. The restaurant also needs to add sound panels. Noise reverberated. Our waiter, Ethan, was fantastic.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place! The food is delicious and the staff is attentive and friendly. Definitely eating here again!! The old bay fries are a must have. Great deals and great atmosphere!

Anne S.

Yelp
All my friends are telling me it's the best place to eat in Athens. I love their chimicurri fries. They have the best drink selection for cocktails. It's a fun entertaining atmosphere with a large patio and lots of sports watching entertainment. The service is fast and friendly ....but fair warning. It's very popular so there may be lines. Get there early

Lyndon D.

Yelp
What a beautiful place! We tried this place out during brunch on Sunday. The food and drinks were excellent! I really enjoyed the Chimichurri Steak and the Shrimp in Grits. We reordered both because they were so good. On top of the amazing food we had the best server! Definitely recommend this place!
google avatar

Bailey S.

Yelp
I have been to Paloma park multiple times now and they always keep me coming back. It is definitely tapas style and can get really expensive if you're ordering food for only yourself. That's part of why I love this place though is getting to try all kinds of different foods. The wait staff was really friendly and the food came out really quick. I also love their outdoor seating area. My friends and I each got 2 things to share (for a total of 6 plates) as well as shared the churros for dessert and let me tell you I was stuffed! My favorite thing we had were the crispy Brussels! They had so much flavor and were so good. They also came with a good portion but it was kinda difficult to get them off of the skewer. We also got the Brie sliders which are tasty but wish there as more Brie cheese on them. Some bites you can kinda taste a hint of the Brie flavor and some bites there's none at all, which sucks because I LOVE Brie cheese. The truffle chips were amazing and have a nice light touch of lemon flavor too. We also got the chicken fritters with the truffle agave hot sauce which were so crispy and was also a good portion, however, I couldn't really taste the truffle flavor which was the reason I got them in the first place. The crab Rangoons have an amazing flavor but was mostly empty pastry with just a little bit of the stuffing in it which was a bummer because the little bit of the filling you do get is delicious. We also got the mojito chicken tostados which were very flavorful and filling and had a strong lime and cilantro flavor which I liked. Lastly, we got an order of the artichoke dip which we all agreed was disappointing. There was really almost no flavor and it wasn't the cheesy gooey dip you would expect it to be. It almost tasted like a bland guacamole. I don't really like churros so I'm not sure if they were actually good or not but they definitely had a good portion of cinnamon sugar on them! All in all when sharing lots of different food options I love this place! Or even for just one plate and a drink to catch up with friends or chat after work. I would definitely recommend and hope to see some new additions to the menu soon!

Yelp
I've visited this restaurant a few times for both brunch and dinner and have always had an amazing experience. The ambiance in the restaurant is incredible, a lot of thought was clearly put into the decor and it's very spacious. I can see this being a great gameday spot for alums or locals who want to avoid the typical crazy bar scene downtown but still have a great time. The food is also very good- I would recommend the breakfast tacos for brunch and the southern bbq bao for dinner but you can't go wrong with anything. The staff is very friendly and the bartenders seem to be very knowledgeable and present themselves well. 10/10 would recommend, especially for parents weekends or graduation weekend.

Renee H.

Yelp
I've always had a positive experience here at Paloma Park! The atmosphere is so inviting and fun. The brunch menu is amazing. I recommend friends and family to come here all the time. I'm vegetarian, and I feel like there are plenty of options for me. Way more than I can say for other places downtown. Definitely visit Paloma if you come to Athens
google avatar

Yelp
We had such a great time at Paloma Park tonight! Went for dinner with some family members and shared a ton of food. Everything that we ate was great. My favorite dishes were the truffle fries, the southern bbq bao, and the fish tacos (not pictured). The truffle fries had a truffle Mayo drizzle and was strong in flavor, but not overpowering. The southern bbq bao had a variety of flavors that meshed well together with the meat, pickled vegetables, and sauce on top. The bao was crispy on the outside and extremely soft and fluffy on the inside. My husband and I love a great fish taco. The sauce on top was so amazing! We also had the crab Rangoon, steak tacos, pork belly fries, and cake trio which aren't pictured. Everything was crispy and saucy that needed to be! Desserts weren't too sweet. Churros are a must order!! My husband had the tajin cocktail which he said tasted strong and good. They have such a huge variety of alcohol. I don't drink, but I'm sure there's something on the drink menu for everyone. There's cornhole, jenga, and other games outside for you to play. Would definitely recommend this place for date night or a night with close friends.

Andy K.

Yelp
This place give Boats Head serious competition as the best bar in Athens. The service from the bartenders is great, and the Paloma's and Margaritas are strong as hell. The outdoor patio is amazing, and like mentioned rivals Boars head in terms of atmosphere. My new favorite day drinking bar!

Grey G.

Yelp
Bad food. Very bad food. Everything was cold, we waited forever on our drinks and food. They overcharged us on both the drinks and the tip. Go elsewhere

Michael R.

Yelp
I was so very excited to try this place. The menu looks amazing and right up my alley in terms of the types of food I like. I've been twice now and have tried close to half of the menu items and they are all extremely underwhelming. Not spicy, not salty, not flavorful. Biggest disappointment was the Thai chicken salad, which even for $12 (?) I felt like I was getting ripped off. Usually I love Thai salad but this was 4 oz - at most - of chicken on top of a dry bed of spinach and a little dressing. No other ingredients. Cool place to hang out I guess but if you want good food you should probably spend the money elsewhere.

Sophia K.

Yelp
Amazing food and drinks. The espresso martini is to die for. I try something different every time and every time I love it. It's a new restaurant so kinks are still being figured out but the vibe is amazing and service is normally awesome! Amazing for brunch or dinner with large parties or even a date night. They are so accommodating!

Luke H.

Yelp
I've been coming to Paloma Park for the past 2 years and the atmosphere (especially on game days) is always top notch. The beer garden also provides a great location to bring friends to during the weekends. Couldn't recommend Paloma Park enough.
google avatar

Skyler E.

Yelp
Although the food is good and it's a nice location with a big outdoor patio, the service was terrible. We had waited over an hour for my friend's food to arrive. Finally, about an hour and 15 minutes later, the waitress pulls the manager over and he offers us two free drinks to compensate for the food my friend never received. Then when the check came, the waitress made us pay for the food my friend still hadn't received because according to her, the one free drink meant we still had to pay for the food. The dish she ordered was around $10 and the free drink would have cost $5. It was so absurd. It's already an expensive place and for that much money customers should be getting top notch service. I left feeling so disappointed.

Aubrey H.

Yelp
Whoever the African American bartender is needs a raise! Excellent service and quality entertainment ‍
google avatar

Margie L.

Yelp
Really good small bites. Every dish we had was delicious. I highly recommend the Thai chicken salad, the shrimp tacos (spicy) and the Wygu Brie sliders. So good!!!
google avatar

Kim L.

Yelp
Meh. Came with a larger group. Took forever to get a beer and service overall was painfully slow. Received appetizers after the main course. They did have Classic City Lager (Brewery next door) but just in a can. Food was okay but didn't come out together. Most dishes on the spicy side. Large charcuterie board was disappointing in size and content. Not somewhere I would rush back to visit.
google avatar

Joseph H.

Yelp
The absolute worst service I have seen. The kitchen was slow, the waitresses and waiters don't know their table numbers, they overcharged me for my $9 drink and tried to say I had 3 drinks when I had 1. And to top it off, they proceeded to make me wait an hour for my food before they told me that they took my food to another table and that my menu item was now sold out. Wouldn't waste my time here ever again, I'd give it 0 starts if I could.
google avatar

Ashley H.

Yelp
The food and drinks were okay but it took us 45 minutes for our cocktails to arrive.. our food got there before our drinks!! Our server said she reminded the bartenders 3 times so the bar definitely needs to be improved.. i dont mind waiting for food if i have my cocktail to sip on

Davis H.

Yelp
I would say I'm at a loss for words, but this is not the place for that. The place, as a matter of fact, is Paloma Park. My group and I were promptly greeted by the staff upon arrival, made aware of drink and food specials and directed to the seated or standing area of our choice. We chose to stand outside on a Saturday afternoon to watch football, where we were more than shocked to find a megatron of a TV setup. Plenty of space, games, and TV viewing for our entire group as well as the rest of the patrons. We ordered beers and a few appetizers that came surprisingly fast as we settled in for the first game of the day. Servers and bartenders were working faster than Nakobe Dean on an outside blitz. We were far from disappointed. Originally planned to get some food and watch a game, but ended up staying for the entirety of the day. The combination of a friendly staff, great food and prices, and outstanding management left us no choice but to put our remaining plans aside. We will be back for another gameday soon and won't make the mistake of planning anything away from PP for the day. Thanks to everyone that made our experience so memorable and as always, go dawgs!

Taylor H.

Yelp
I absolutely loved this place! Everything was amazing from the drinks to the food. And the food comes out right when they are finished cooking it so it's always hot. I really enjoyed the buffalo chicken boa and the spring rolls with sweet thai chili sauce. Definitely recommend this place!
google avatar

Stephanie C.

Yelp
My husband and I just had the best brunch we've ever had in our lives! We ordered a LOT of food like we always do when we try a new place and each drink and plate was pure joy. Our server (Grace, if I remember correctly) was so fun, attentive, and had great recommendations. We will absolutely be back!

Luke K.

Yelp
Food was great! I asked for a recommendation and went with the chefs special and Thai chicken salad, both was great. Great atmosphere, drinks were great and the bartender Olivia was super attentive and helpful with the menu.
